I take my 5-stars back on the calamari. Totally inconsistent!! Went back - horrible. Went again few days later, even worse. I finally walked back to restaurant after taking an order to go to talk to the manager who blamed it on not being made with corn meal that day. Something about they were out!?!? Weird. Anyway, order at your own risk.

I ve gotten food at Umami Burger and most recently...

I ve gotten food at Umami Burger and most recently picked up Sam s Crispy Chicken from this location. The food is great and the employees are nice, but every time I ve ordered food from here I ve had to wait 20+ minutes when the app clearly said my food was ready for pickup. When I arrived at the location to pickup my food, they would start to prepare my food then rather then have it ready for pickup - which is what the app says. I know I m not the only one with the issue because I see there are multiple delivery people waiting for their food which is also not ready for pickup. When my food was finally ready, I got home and saw that they forgot to include the sauces and the sides.

It seems that this location is preparing food via multiple delivery apps but can t handle the load and can t figure out how to use the app - and it s even worse when it s busy in house. Maybe consider only using one or two apps until you can figure how to handle the load? So that people aren t waiting endlessly until the food is prepared? And definitely DON T MARK in the app that the order is ready for pickup if you HAVEN T STARTED to prepare the food.

I m not planning to go back here unless they fix how they handle orders. I don t recommend ordering from here via any delivery apps if you re hungry and/or don t want to wait for a long period of time.

Great food, amazing cocktails. Nice beer selection. And if you get to know Mark the owner, you'll be treated like a king. Not sure if the whiskey or the dessert is the biggest draw... But at Morrison, you don't have to pick....

The food was okay and they had an interesting menu but it took them more than 30 minutes to serve some appetizers and even longer for the burgers. The place wasn't busy, they just didn't get any food done. Server didn't check on us either.

We came on Friday night. It was very busy. The bartender was our waiter. He had too much to do, which left us feeling unattended to. We each ordered a burger, and we also ordered maple bacon fries and the Brussel sprouts. The burgers finally arrived, and we asked about our sides. "I'm going to go get them." we were told. We were halfway finished with our burgers by the time the fries arrived. The burgers were good, and so were the fries. We finished up and the busboy came to clear our table, at which point we mentioned that the Brussel sprouts never arrived. They were kind enough to finish making them for us and sent them with us to-go, free of charge. Overall, the experience was not good, but the food was on point.

There is no zero star otherwise I will give it to this restaurant especially the team that make fun of me are you kidding me guys my order was at 1:45 pm you make me waiting 20 minutes and the restaurant was empty plus the time before the pick up at least 10 minutes that mean 30 minutes no excuse instead of laughing inside and make people wait and waste theirs time

Sadly the recent acquisition from SBE group has eroded the quality of all Umami Burger locations. Can no longer rate this higher then one star.

Always a fan of Umami from Socal to Norcal. Glad to have one so close! Unfortunately they recently got rid of the Alton Brown Burger and the Queso Fundido. Sad to say I probably won't be coming here as often after this.

The Umami burger is just ok. It seems a little 'si...

The Umami burger is just ok. It seems a little 'simple'. It looks sloppily assembled. When ordering from an app, there weren't any options to add any condiments/garnish to it. There wasn't even an option to specify the temperature of the patty.
The parmesan frico was a nice touch, and so were the mushrooms. The problem is I got two tiny mushrooms, probably taking up just 10% of the area.
It's not worth $13.50, $5.50 at best.

Other locations are much better. Burgers are always well-done here. Couldn't get seated the most recent visit despite almost all tables being open. San Francisco locations are great, but skip this one.

I m not one to complain, but last nights meal was ...

I m not one to complain, but last nights meal was undeniable the worst meal of 2018 so far and in a long time actually...and my partner will also agree. I feel it s absolutely worth taking the time out to mention this to whoever is in charge of a team that displays such a lackadaisical approach to an entire dining experience on such a wonderful brisk Saturday night during Oakland s winter season.

We ve been here once before which had us coming back for what we thought was a good reason...The Impossible Burger, some edamame and a beet salad...alongside of TWO margaritas (one each) is what we ordered. We got our drinks and imidiatly realized there was no salt and they were extremely sweet/the Mix tasted stale. After sitting there for almost 40 mins without any type of service....we asked a random employee if they could change the drinks that we had placed at the end of the table over 30 mins prior to asking for help.

Our burger came out cold and by itelf!!! 10 mins after we finished our burger, this sad excuse for a salad came out alongside of the edamame!!?? It was like the worst service ever. Then we get charged for the drinks they said they would replace?????

We paid $83 for one burger, a salad, edamame, and two drinks? I left a message on the check and for the first time in my life I didn t tip and still feel guilty because I worked in the food industry and know just how hard things can be.

Perhaps you need better kitchen management and friendlier/more productive and less judgmental staff?

I d love to hear back from you about this issue because I don t feel like spending $80 for my experience there
is or was worth it and I need to speak up for the better of your company and because I m honestly just completly dissatisfied with my experience.

Burger was OK, but not $12 worthy. Also asked for no ketchup and it of course came with it anyways. Normally not a big deal, just ask the server for another or wipe it off, right? But this burger had more ketchup than I knew what to do with, so I ended up scraping off half the bun to rid myself of the necessary vinegary tomato waste. Unfortunately the server did not come back for about 10 minutes and didn't bother to do the traditional 'is everything alright?' routine, or else I would have asked to get another burger. And i do mean 10+ minutes. I sat patiently for about 3 or 4 minutes waiting for him to come around. Nope. And I was going to stop the manager and ask her, but she was already occupied correcting another person's order. What most bugged me about the situation was when ordering the burger, the waiter and I talked briefly about how I did not like ketchup on my burger. That dude knew..

Also - what's up with the one tiny mushroom on the Umami Burger? I guess the menu was literal when it said 'shitaki mushroom'. As in 1. Singular.

Anyways, not the best of experience. Rated 3 stars because maybe those people who absolutely love ketchup on a burger shouldn't be turned off by my experience. Well, actually I think this is a time when everyone should re-think their life if they like ketchup on a burger because it's is gross and an unnecessary waste of tomato.

Atmosphere is OK, fries were OK. All around OK. Unless you like ketchup. Then maybe slightly better than OK?

The food is great. The service, not so much. I walked in to place a to-go order at the bar. I was totally ignored for about 5 minutes, so I left and placed my order online through OrderAhead. I returned after 20 minutes (as instructed when I placed the order), and the semi-rude hostess informed me that it would be "a few minutes." ...She lied.

We love their impossible burgers so on a whim decided to place an order through grubhub (via seamless) for pick up on our way home. We placed the order at 8:45, and showed up at 9:30 when it was estimated to be ready (which is already quite a long wait for pick up) We inquired about our order and were told that our name would be called when it was ready. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, since it was Friday night and they were really busy, we waited... FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF. Shortly before closing at 11, they came out and told us that they lost our order. DESPITE CONSPICUOUSLY WAITING IN FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF AND ASKING FOUR TIMES, NO ONE EVER BOTHERED TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF OUR ORDER which, by the way, we had already paid for. Grubhub refunded the meal, but we wasted two hours of our lives, exposed ourselves to COVID for nothing, went home very, very hungry at 11pm with no dinner, and an otherwise lovely night was totally spoiled. Cannot recommend to anyone.

I went out earlier tonight to enjoy dinner at umami with my girlfriend, we were both very excited. She had just gotten off of work and I insisted we eat there instead of getting a pick up order, oh boy was I wrong. After waiting for 15 minutes or so a waitress came by and asked if we needed waters to which we responded we were ready to order. She told us she wouldn't take our order yet and came back five or ten minutes later with water.
She proceeded to take our order (two impossible burgers with a side of fries) and I asked for no cheese on my burger due to an allergy. 20 minutes later a different waiter showed up with our fries and two lettuce wrapped impossible burgers. I asked him why the burgers were lettuce wrapped, he seemed confused and told me he would go ask. My original waitress then walks out, tells me that they ran out of buns and walks away.
I wasn't even sure really sure how to process being given a substitution with no warning before noticing there was also cheese on my burger so I couldn't even eat the wrap I didn't order! I love the impossible burger and I'm very sad that I no longer feel like I can visit this resuraunt.

First time in Oakland, Umami recommended by everyone we talked to. Golden State kicking butt, crowd going wild. Ahi Tuna burger and a cold brew coffee (no alchol). FANTASTIC food and fans! The Maple Bacon Bourbon looks amazing!

Takes two hours to fulfill an order on postmates. I'm very disappointed. I'm kind of disappointed as a fellow Midwesterner that it takes two hours to make a burger.

And then they delayed my order. I'm going to tip my postmates super high because. I am severely disappointed at umamis supervisors and managerial team for not having things together. I'm not sure if I'm going to order from this burger joint again..two hours to make a burger.

Things were a bit off from the beginning. I called in to order for pick up, and the lady told me to wait for minutes (I wasn't put on hold) and then she put me on hold but accidentally hung up. I called again and the lady put me on hold again for a few minutes. Apparantly the menu has changed to my dismay. So I had to look at the new menu online and I decided to order through post mates for pick up. Due to some error about the new menu and old menu, we ended up having two different orders we were going to pick up. When we arrived at the restaurant we had to wait thirty minutes because apparently they never got our first order even though we paid. They put in a new order for us right away and we got the food right when it closed. One of the waitresses seemed a bit rude but the others were nice and easy to talk to. This place is good for food but the customer service could be improved upon. Also, I ordered well done and my burger was medium. I suppose the kitchen staff was in a rush.

The burgers are great but here s the thing: The prices are standard for upscale burgers but the burgers don t come with anything, not even fries. So it s a normal price but you get less with it. I had the Cali burger (you have to pay extra to add avocado which is annoying) and the manly burger. Both were good. I also sampled the sweet potato fries (solid) and the maple bacon fries (also solid).

This was an epic waste of time. We placed our order within ten or fifteen minutes and we're waiting patiently for our food. 45 minutes went by and we finally got out drinks. We waited another twenty minutes before asking where our food was, but our server said that he only put in the order twenty minutes ago. I'm what? He comes back ten minutes later and says the kitchen is plating. Okay fine, whatever. We're starving by this point.

Another ten minutes or so our server brings out fries that are dead cold. We wait for him to come back around, but instead he's serving others who came in well after us their food. We just left at point. There's absolutely no excuse to wait over 90 minutes for burgers on a slow Sunday.

Worst take-out experience of my entire life (happened on 06/19/2020). Umami is dangerously understaffed, has a malfunctioning order system that loses orders without a trace, and is responsible for managing the take-out orders of FOUR DIFFERENT RESTAURANTS at its address. Waited for almost two hours just to leave without any food and probably got exposed to COVID-19 because of the angry mob of people I had to wait with. Avoid these guys like the plague. The facts:
-Friend ordered two burgers and some fries at around 8:45 via Seamless
(owned by GrubHub, so GrubHub). Food to be ready between 9:20 and 9:30. We originally tried to order by phone but nobody was picking up.
-Show up at 9:25 or so. Wait in line until it's my turn, tell the worker I'm there under my friend's name. They write something on a receipt and tell me to wait.
-9:45-ish: nothing has happened. Tell them the name on the order again, but they don't confirm that it's being made or anything. Just look at me and say they're backed-up. A mob of food delivery guys and customers are now anxiously standing around waiting for their orders, most of them made by food apps. Almost nobody is socially distancing and people are vocally complaining. Even a staff member starts complaining about his pay despite working "twice as hard".
-10:00-ish: the place is supposed to be closed, and orders just stop coming out for a while. More people show up. One customer is so mad from waiting that he attacks some furniture.
-10:15-ish: we first learn that the ticket system isn't working from a guy who talked to a staff member. I make my way to the front and tell the staff I have been waiting for an hour and again give them my order information. Once again, they just look at me and go off back into the restaurant--no confirmation or anything. A delivery driver tells me that "their system is always having problems".
-10:30-ish: a staff member comes out to give us a lecture about how the system isn't working and that's the responsibility of corporate, not them, and that they've been working hard for eight hours and that people have been rude to them all day, that they're managing the orders of FOUR restaurants, and that everyone's been waiting for a long time, okay? I'm like, "okay, but where is my order from almost two hours ago?" I again tell them the name on the order and they go back inside. Just trying to talk to a staff member requires fighting with the ten-or-so people who are also freaking out about their orders, all in close proximity.
-Close to 11:00: after almost two hours of waiting, a staff member finally tells me that they do not have any ticket with my friend's name or information. They say they can try to make an order but they're about to close down. I respond, "so does that mean I'm SoL if you can't even make the order because of closing down?" I don't get an answer to this. Fantastic. I leave after having been around people yelling and brushing up against each other for hours, and am afraid I'm going to get COVID-19 now.
-In Conclusion: if you want to pay through the nose to wait hours in the equivalent of a post-disaster breadline with no guarantee of getting any food (but maybe some 'rona), this is the place for you. I know that COVID-19 has severely impacted the ability of many businesses to function, but this is just a nightmare.

A little pricey but definitely delicious. The burgers are great and u love the maple bacon fries. The burgers tend to be really rare if you order rare so I get their medium rare which is the exact amount of rare I like. Staff was nice and the place has a nice atmosphere.

The beet salad was delicious and service was good too. Parking was a little difficult in that area. Not any one thing stands out that makes me what to go back for more so one star less for that.

I Googled burger joints in West Oakland. Umami Burger was the first to pop up. I was running late for work and had a taste for a burger.
Umami was not it. I ordered the Cali burger, Onion Rings and the carmelized brussel sprouts. Everything was hella greasy. There was a taste that smothered every item I don't know if it was the truffle oil. But nothing had it's own individual taste it all taste the same. I've smelled and tasted that taste before but just couldn't put my finger on it.
Everything together cost me $28.95 I don't have a problem paying for good food. This just wasn't it.
The Cali burger was really messy hot. When it was cool down it was more cohesive to eat without everything sliding around in the cheese making a mess like a Carl's Jr. Commerical. And the lettuce was even wilted like a burger from the microwave with all the fixings.
Funny thing about it, I saw burgers that were leaving the kitchen out to the floor that looked really pretty. Nothing like the hot mess that I had. Maybe it was a take out thing. That's what my burger was to go.
Service wasn't all that great either. I was rung up at the bar. The bar tender gave me my food and my check. 3 girls came in and I assume they were regular customers by the comradery between them. When he asked what they were drinking, she replied you know what I'm drinking. But I guess he forgot he was dealing with me because I had to clear my throat an interrupt them to pay my check.

Yea....I definitely won't be eating her again. And I can't get that taste out of my mouth.

Good service and delicious burgers, what more could you want?

The standard hamburger was very good, and for any vegetarians or vegans the impossible burger was great!

We arrived around 6pm and were able to be seated immediately.
