Delicious fusion of asian/hamburgers. Other items that we tried included ahi burger, fries with truffle sauce, brussels sprouts. I would order all again. Happy hour prices and selections were excellent. Service was friendly and prompt.

The area is nice for nightlife and the food is delicious. I ordered the Sunnyside burger and it was phenomenal. However, the wait time for food was ridiculously long, over 30 minutes (maybe they were understaffed), and the portions were fairly small for the price.

Went Friday at the beginning of happy hour. The ambiance of the restaurant is excellent, along with polite and friendly service. Everything's excellent so far, and so now to the food. I had the umami burger as well as some cheesy truffle fries. The burger was decent, the bun was perfect though it didn't quite meat my expectations. The fries were acceptable, but once again did not meet my expectations, more so than the burger. The fries were saturated in cheese at the top with the rest of them having none at all, and the truffle flavor did not come through at all. Overall, good service, awesome restaurant ambiance (with a pretty sick patio space), and lackluster food. I would go back, but for the experience provided at the cost that it was, I won't be a very frequent customer.

First off he restaurant is freezing, literally colder than outside. When we first got to the restaurant there were barely any customers there. When we finally ordered they told us they were out of half of the menu items, including french fries. We then proceeded to wait over an hour for our food in this freezing cold restaurant. I do not understand how it could have taken an hour to cook burgers. On top of this many of the glasses and utensils that we received were dirty. We had to request several times for new glasses. They kept coming back dirty. When one member of our party went to confront a staff member they told me that the entrance to the kitchen was full of trash. That is the trash was overflowing from the bins onto the floor. Our hostess, I believe her name was Bridget, was very understanding and did her best to accommodate us. I can say that she was the only positive part of our experience. She took the flak when the general manager did not have the courage to come out and talk with us. I can say with out a doubt that I will not be coming back to this restaurant.

The service was great but we have to be compensated for the meal because my friend told them from the start that she was allergic to onions and no ketchup on her hamburger so when she got her order she had green onions on the fries and ketchup on her Burger and she tried to take the onions off. She ate the fries but you know she still got sick so then they are very apologetic about the allergy reaction. She had to reorder and take her food home. I said Diet Coke oh we have Diet Coke and I got Diet Pepsi instead. On a good note the burger was moist and good and the chili garlic sauce was excellent. I ordered a burger and fries with the chili garlic sauce to go for my son. When I got home they gave me ketsup instead. They need to brush up on taking orders. Communication is lacking.

Good food, everything had something unique. I would go back until I tried everything on the menu. A bit pricey, BUT you get what you pay for. Service was excellent, worthy of a big tip.

Had the impossible burger. Possibly, the best tasting veggie burger I've ever had. It's probably 90-95% there when it comes to tasting like a regular hamburger. Earthy flavor, which I'm guessing is from mushrooms in the patty. Texture is a little softer than a regular hamburger, not as salty. Still very good.

This place is lovely, and was able to accomodate 7 of us super close to closing on a Friday night. The management allowed us to stay long after folks had left and while they were cleaning up. The shot pours were generous and the food itself very, very delicious. We had maple bacon sweet potato fries and chicken wings, and I cannot begin to remember what everyone had it all looked yummy. We will return again.

I usually love Umami's garlic aioli and onion rings, but the service was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

Long explanation follows..
We had to wait nearly five minutes to be seated in a half empty restaurant, once seated the server took nearly 15 minutes before even approaching our table with a very uncaring attitude, and we had known what we wanted since entering (and made that clear by menu placement). Typically they give you a dish of ketchup and some pickles when you wait and we only received ketchup. When we finally get our onion rings the server didn't bring the sauce, so we had to wait another couple minutes while our onions rings were already there to get that. After that we never see the server again, and I have to go to the bar to beg to pay my tab so I can leave. On top of it all the onion rings were $6 and we received exactly 6 onion rings. They were definitely not worth a dollar each. Overall, I wish we had gotten pizza instead.

Stopped by at the Oakland Music Festival and ordered the truffle especiale, truffle fries, bourbon cocktails and the manly burger poutine style. I wasn't impressed with the manly burger poutine style and having just come from Montreal, no other poutine compares! I LOVE LOVE LOVE truffle everything and enjoyed my truffle especiale burger (the special part of it was the fried egg) and truffle fries. I am a big fan of thin fries and they do it well especially with truffle cheese fries on top!

Went in with high hopes but came out very disappointed. The waiter oddly asked us to pay and provide the tip right after we ordered when we had only been served water. While confused I decided to be generous. However, there was then an over 40 minute wait for two burgers, small salad and an order of fries in a near empty establishment. When the food did come, mine was overcooked and my friend s completely burnt. In the end we paid about $50 dollars for a pretty unsatisfying experience.

Good burgers and fries but the cocktails are hit or miss. I ordered the oakland location special which I highly recommend if you go to this location and a bloodymarry ( I've been on the hunt for the best in the bay) which was pretty good but of the 3 we ordered none were anything alike, progressively getting worse each additional one we got, which was disappointing. Overall for a chain burger place it was good but the competition in the bay is fierce.

This is the most outstanding place to enjoy real truffle bliss. I mean heaven on earth! The truffle fries mixed with sweet potato fries is pure magic. The salted chocolate ice cream sandwich is rich n velvety. Don't skip the infamous "impossible burger" which is plant based and fully loaded with flavor to savor!! Excellent environment , staff and service! One of the guest ordered the bacon bourbon drink and loved it so for the connoisseur of fine spirits they have a full bar to enjoy. Great birthday celebration.

Umami is the best burger you can get at a chain restaurant. They make burgers a little more classy than most places, and not in a lame way. The my temporarily offered the Alton Brown Burger, which was the best burger I've ever had. The truffle fries are addictive. Also, they have Sculpin on tap. Unbeatable.

Overall I love their food. The only draw back is the seating there is a bit cramped..especially w 2 kids.. and such a small restaurant, not many tables.. Since it's popular place, we always have to wait.

Went late on a Saturday night. Place is nice. Trendy look & feel. Service was fine. Kitchen was very slow took about 55 minutes to get our food. We only ordered 2 burgers. They only brought one out. They forgot the other. Burger was okay nothing great. Won't be back.

This is for the day they gave away a burger and fries to all customers. We did have a wait for a table, but I expected that. We got there about 8:15pm and got a table about 9pm. The burger and fries were amazing. I thought about a shake, but didn't want that much sugar late at night. We left a good tip and I'll be back. They're open late on Fridays and Saturdays (to 11pm) which is great.

Umami Burger saved my friends and I on a rainy Saturday night (from the rain that is). They warned us their kitchen was backed up and that our food would be 45 min late (prior to ordering). The service was painfully slow, but the staff was really nice. The food was great. Hoping to go another time when we don t have to wait as long for food, but was impressed with how the staff ultimately handled the slow service (free drinks eyyo)!

So good. Had the sliders, sweet potatoes fries, and regular fries. They have different sauces to try for whatever you order. Staff was very friendly. Waitress was very courteous and positive.

The ambience was inviting however the service and wait for our food arrival was way too long considering the amount of guest in the restaurant. The food is overpriced for portion size and quality. Won't be coming back or recommending to friends.

Upscale burger place. Burgers are really good, if a little pricey. Fantastic onion rings. Fries are string thin. I think wedge fries would work better. I'd go back and order the onion rings but skip the fries. All in all I liked it.

I enjoyed my order, an Impossible Umami Burger. I don't know that I enjoyed it enough to return. Too many other options, even Nations, that are much cheaper for almost the same amount of flavor.

Don't go there for an impossible burger. First one came out burnt to crisp, second one came out falling apart undercooked.
The woman at the bar who served us was incredibly nice, though, and took it back to be redone. The regular burgers were nice and perfectly done, up to Umami standards. :)

Wanted to place a to go order. Called from home 3 times with no one answering. Went there. Stood at the front door for 10 minutes, just for the waitress to tell me the kitchens closed. There still bringing food out, mind you. Not happy about this place.

The spicy jalapeno (formally the hatch) was super tasty while it lasted. They've done away with it completely now. Their new menu items are less than stellar. Good thing there are several other burger places around..

Really disappointed. Based on online menu, I invited family for Sunday dinner. Only to have our waitress tell us that even the brussel sprouts would probably have gluten because they don't wash the pans. I was really sad when my daughter in law excused herself to go home and eat lentils because the waitress made everything sound high risk for gluten (my dil becomes very ill with any gluten, and cant take risks). The waitress overall seemed to be on another planet, and she came by every couple minutes to interrupt our conversation to ask if everything was okay, "still". My seared ahi sandwich was really sad... nice carrot, cabbage, ginger slaw, but the Ahi was a tough, dry, formed patty, with not nearly enough texture or flavor to hold up under the slaw. Seeing how unfresh it looked, I became concerned about eating it in its seared (extremely rare) state, and so didn't.
So on the up side, the wings appetizer was amazingly delicious, and the hostess was energetic and sweet. Except that they also don't have nonalcoholic beer, I could see going there after work just for the wings.

Great spot and my go to for burgers in the bay. Their umami and fusion style twist makes for a great culinary experience your tastebuds will thank you for. I m not usually big on chains because they lose their identity and sense of taste, but umami s got something good going. The only knock they get is from their corporate bosses switching up the damn menu and taking away the classics everyone loved so much. BRING BACK THE MANLY FRIES!!! ... Those damn higher ups always think they know.

Absolutely the worst service EVER! went on New Year s Day with only 3 tables, waited 40 minutes to be served flat soda. Had to get up and get our own water. Walked out. Never will go back.

Good burger place but definitely overhyped and overpriced. I had the manly burger, which was great but nothing I would come here Gaian for. My aunt had the ahi tuner burger. I ate some of it and it wasn't good at all. I'd say that their truffle fries were alright, but they were too salty. I had a good time but I wouldn't come here again.
