Food was burnt, but was still pretty decent. Took a long time to get it though, around an hour

The manly fries, truffle fries and Alton "Brown " burger were amazing!!! Great atmosphere! We were at the Oakland CA location!

Good food, had a decent beer selection, nice environment. Music was a little too loud though.

Meh. Burgers are good, sort of. No miraculous flavors that send you on an umami trip, but ingredients are good, fries are good, everything's fair to good, and everything is priced about $3 too high.
The burgers are more gimmicky than special, more quirky than well flavored, and more expensive than ______________, who has probably the best burgers in town.
Skip it unless you have a Groupon.

This place has some of the best burgers I've ever had. They default to serving the burgers medium-rare, and they should, because the beef is pretty damn high-quality. The only Bay Area burger I've had with better meat is the Prather Ranch burger at Gather.

Their truffle cheese is silly and delicious, so I recommend you truffle your fries. Or smother 'em (gravy and short rib). Or make 'em manly (beer-chedder sauce, bacon and crispy onions).

It's definitely a bit pricier than what you might expect from a burger chain, but its quality matches it. And that's kinda the point: there aren't many burger joints that serve a higher-quality product. Umami Burger does.

Food taste good, great music and comfortable atmosphere. The plant based "impossible burger" lived up to expectations. My kid actually finished his entire meal. Rating was based on average score from family of 5

Have wanted to go here for quite some time but was super disappointed when I did. I got The spicy chicken burger. The wait was long, The burger was tiny and the bun was very dry. Patty was not impressive. Picked beets and fries were great though.

The Umami Ultimate Bacon Burger was fine but that along with the Loaded Truffle fries and Fried pickles, were extremely salty.

I eat in this spot a lot since I work nearby. I got to say the customer service is always great and they keep the spot neat constantly. Rates are fair and they serve large portions.

I come to Umami often and I highly recommend it. In my experience, the staff has always been most friendly and hospitable. Orders come quickly and the food is delicious. I highly recommend truffle fries with all the dipping sauces and the ahi tuna burger, although all their burgers are delicious.

The Impossible Burger was great! Fries were ok. Onion rings were good but mostly because they weren't super heavy or greasy! The habanero sauce was great! Nice kick to it! Staff is pretty attentive and ask abiut dietary needs before preparation of your food! Overall great experience and we will be back for the Impossible burger for sure!

Yummy.....I'm pretty picky and their food was very tasty. The bacon is to die for. Salad dressing was a little too spicy for my taste. Cute little bar.

The vegan "beef" burger is outstanding! They also have an amazing assortment of bacon-themed foods. My daughter and her friend got Manly Burgers and Manly Fries and watched (women's) basketball! (Neither play.) Great evening!

Steer clear of the Impossible Burger, it's hyper-processed and lab-grown. Nothing natural about it.

They serve the incredible impossible burger on a MILK bread bun! So if you want it vegan you need to ask for a lettuce wrap. Come on Umami, go down the street and buy vegan bread.

Burgers are really great but my picky one loved the braised brussel sprouts!

They don't care about customer's I was waited line long time

Ordered off door dash, and the restaurant accepted the order. However, when the dasher got to the restaurant, he was turned away because they said they were too busy. We waited an hour for the order and have nothing to show for it, and even had to call door dash to get a refund. If the restaurant is going to accept online orders, then they should serve the food.

It was good....I must have the impossible burger before I leave San Francisco

I didn't really like any of the burgers on the menu. I tried on and it was okay but for the price point I was disappointed. Also it took a long time to get a seat and be served but the waitress was very nice and was friendly. Atmosphere was okay pretty good mix mostly younger crowd

Great food but 4/5 times they are going to screw up my to-go order.

Avoid this place. The people who work there are nice. Unfortunately, the service is slow. I tried going twice over the past 2 months. The first time, my friends chicken sandwich was undercooked. It looked like salmon.

The second time, it took us almost 30 minutes to get our food. There are other places in the area to get what you can here.

The food was excellent, but the service was lacking, and the timing was all wrong. If I ever give them another shot, it won't be on a Friday night.

Burgers are decent. Better than average. Will go in just for the Maple Bacon Fries though, a meal in themselves!

Always get great service, never had a wait over 3-5 minutes,though parking is not always the easiest thing...
I drive down from Humboldt County to Berkeley alot to service my Audi's I JUST have to eat here, turn around and go back home then do it again like I live down the road or something

Umami burger is amazing. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The burgers are of course delicious. There is a great Happy Hour menu that has a lot to offer for $6 appetizers. The alcohol menu is pretty extensive. There are a lot of beers on tap and something to find for anyone looking to drink. Also the inclusion of the impossible burger to appease to vegetarian and vegan tastes is very accommodating. They serve other things if you aren't in the mood or can't eat beef burgers, such as chicken or ahi tuna.

A party of 6 of us were there tonight and we all shared lollipop wings, sweet potato fries, and shishito peppers. All the sauces that accompanied the sides were delicious many of them had a hint of truffle, and I thought it really elevated the flavor. For my burger I choose the sunny side which comes with a single patty, parmesan frico, fried egg, truffle thyme compound butter, and truffled aioli. The flavors were amazing. The meat was cooked perfectly as I asked and the burger was by far one of the best burgers I have ever had. Umami burger is definitely a gem and I look forward to coming back here to try their other burger creations.

Slow service, cold food, a hair in one of the drinks

I ordered the umami burger and thought it was very good, although I think I would have preferred something a little more classic from the menu (maybe one of the burgers with melted cheese, as this one had a parmesan crisp). There are a lot of burgers on the menu that sound good, so I am eager to try a few more. Most importantly, the burger was cooked perfectly - moist, thick, and with a nice crust on the outside.

Order for takeaway and the burgers were absolutely squished and very unappetising in both appearance and taste. Won't ever be going back.

My son and I had dinner here prior to seeing Kansas play at the Paramount. Good food with well thought out portions. We left full, but not feeling stuffed.

Horrible service. Seriously worst service I have ever experienced eating out in my entire life. Enough to also make my first review in my life too. The only nice person who actually smiled and was helpful was the busser. I am never ever going back there in my life and if anyone asks me about it I would say don't waste your time. It's the place that gave me the first taste of American Burger.

One of four bay-area outposts of the Umami Burger chain, which originated in LA. Though I was tempted to order one of the alternative burgers (including ahi tuna and an edamame-mushroom veggie burger), I ended up ordering the original Umami Burger and sweet potato fries for my first visit here, and can say that my tastebuds were well-satisfied by the roundness of flavor in every bite. Desserts on the menu here are locally sourced, but since they are produced on a mass-scale and nothing sounded especially tempting to us, we skipped them in favor of a local, small-scale bakery a few blocks away.

Food was terrible. Cold. Bad service. Just the worst.

Friday for the free burger and fries was one of the greatest burgers ive ever tasted they can consider me a customer forever i mean their whole menu is down right delicious

The Truffle burger was very good. The bacon maple fries were sinfully delicious.

From the moment you enter that restaurant team give you a pleasant feeling. Very warm crew, it is a friendly restaurant to enjoy with buddies or with your date. Excellent cooking, professional chef, reasonable pay and excellent service. Warmly recommended.

Burgers are surprisingly mediocre. No flavor, totally coasting on the toppings. The starters, sides, and happy hour is great though.

Slow service, over dressed salads, and austere setting. Not cheap. Go elsewhere.

Found a great spot for finishing my work day over happy hour. I sat at the bar enjoying a fantastic old fashioned (with bacon) while finishing my last call for the day. The staff and bartender were awesome! And the chicken sliders were a very tasty treat.

Tasty burger but it's expensive and small so you'll leave feeling hungry.

Delicious food. Like seriously it's really yummy but I have a lot of trouble with the service since they are slow.

I have eaten here three times. The food was good the first two times. But the third time it felt like the kitchen failed in execution. The recipes seemed consistent, but the final product was lacking. For example: I ordered the Cali burger and there were barely any fried onions on it and the meat was over cooked. I then decided to have the fried chicken sliders next (still hungry) and the first two were well prepared but the last one literally had just fried batter inside (no chicken). It was disappointing. On the positive side the service was excellent. The staff was friendly and responsive. Don't think we will come back though.

The Trufflemaker Impossible Burger is really good. The burger is marked as vegan on the menu, and the waiter said the aioli is also vegan. I will definitely be going back to get this again!

This place is pretty great. I have ordered delivery before and it is good. In person it is even better. The staff is great. Food is super, fast, and consistent. Full bar and good beer choices. The bartender was super.

Very poor waiter. Very very poor. He actually walked out on us while we were still ordering. I guess he thought it took us too long. The food tasted nice but is way overpriced. We had to vegan impossible burgers with two fries. What that means is you only get the pattys and some lettuce but no buns and no cheese. They don't have a vegan option for anything. They did put some avocado puree on it but actually charged us extra! They remove half of it but charge us extra for avocado which we didnt even ask for. I was still eating and the bill got already shoved under our noses. Very rude. The total was 44,79 dollar. We give a 3,21 dollar tip although it wasn't deserved at all. The second we put The leather thing with The money in it down, the waiter rushed to come and pick it up... Really? Easy bro seriously. Now get this, the waiter actually gave the tip back because it was too small according to him hahahaha. Ridiculous! I'll never go here again. There are many other options around who serve impossible burgers so don't waste your time and money on this overpriced unfriendly and very rude place.

First time I went, the place was uncomfortably empty. It was unnerving. I pretty soon got an idea of why. Umami is supposed to mean "savory." I think these people confused the meaning for salty. Ugh. There's not enough water in the world to make up for that meal.

But things happen so I thought I'd try the again. This time, the service was inexcusable.The server completely forgot I was there. When she finally realized, she was so embarrassed that she disappeared and literally didn't come back. What??? When I finally got a manager, he lamely stuttered something about how she must be busy. Excuse me? Are you serious? What a total joke. No wonder this place is empty.

Save yourself the hassle and go some place that actually knows what customer service and hospitality and Umami actually are.

Tried and loved the Impossible Burger! I would recommend, if you haven't had it before, to go with the multiple sliders, rather than the burger. The sliders give you a much better sense of the taste of this unique burger. I would also highly recommend the fries here, which are outstanding.

I LOVE their burgers BUT there have been times where I have to wait an hour (or more!) for food.

Great food although on a busy day if you're not planning you're meal time well it might be a small w8 of 10-15 but besides that excellent service I used to work here and the people work really hard plus the manager/boss is one of the nicest manager's I've ever had and his work ethic was low key a role model to me, definitely have learned great experience and how to treat and compensate for the customer here no matter what the age/race/or class status. Would totally bring a date here for some truffle frys or the VEGAN IMPOSSIBLE BURGER.

The Impossible burger was incredible! It taste just like a real burger. The tator tots were excellent too!

The staff was wonderful , service quick ,atmosphere delightful. Last but not least the food was exceptional.

I love Umami burger... the Oakland location is cool. I always compare other burgers to theirs... and have not been impressed yet.. so they keep me coming back
