Average hotel. Pretty from outside but that is it....
Average hotel. Pretty from outside but that is it. The beds are badly made and all wrinkled. In the morning the aisles had trash bags and empty bottles outside the rooms.

Excellent hotel, had a lovely stay here. Staff were very accommodating, the room booked on Expedia which stated there would be dressing gowns, slippers and a fitness center. Unfortunately that was not the case, nonetheless excellent hotel.
Nice area, but rooms are too expensive for the Standards...
Really nice room. Good restaurant. Reasonable rates.
Friendly welcome. Good breakfast .
The only complaint is no explanation in French.
When we heard there was live music we expected that the New Year would have been rung in a lot more actively than it was. That was disappointing. Overall we found the food to be very average. Starters were generally very good but main courses were tasteless. Room was very comfortable and well serviced.
Very professional and courteous staff made this stay memorable. Upon arriving late to the hotel, we were told that the twin room we had booked wasn't available, but that they would move a second bed into a regular room for us. While we waited for our room in the lobby, we got treated to a complimentary pint of Guinness and the next morning we found a voucher under our door for a complimentary dinner for two. The building was also very nice both inside and out, the room was clean and the hotel was easily accessible from the city center by the DART train and from the airport by Aircoach. Couldn't have asked for a better way to end off two weeks in Europe!
We held a family get together here in the 1880 Room - a two course meal with wine and drinks plus room hire for four hours cost us about 40 per head - good value for such a wonderful setting and fabulous service
Great hotel to chill out. Staff really friendly, service good even when very busy.
The hotel is located about 15-20 minutes walk from the center which is excellent at night as you return with walks from the center you do not have to take a taxi. Breakfast was rich and excellent - it was possible to choose from both warm and cold kitchen. . They forgot to bring us shampoo and towels even though we asked that we do not have all of them, it wanted to go to the reception several times and ask for it, otherwise the girls were helpful and tried to meet us with a request. As you dwell, just the top floors of the hotel and you live, otherwise not recommend below especially who has rheumatism and feet.
Nice hotel, comfortable beds and nice breakfast. Right next to the RDS Arena.
We had to pleasure of staying here last Thursday and found the staff and quality of food to be very good. The new bar area looks really well also. Look forward to returning in the future.
I stayed one night during the tour of Ireland. I would say well.
I phoned for a corporate reservation at short notice and was facilitated even though the demand was peak due to horse show in RDS. I often use this hotel because of the convenience to my work location. When l arrived parking had been organised for me. I was very appreciative. The hotel gave me an upgrade for which l was greatly appreciative. The staff are so helpful. The breakfast is topclass. Well done all for the service
Freemason hotel build in 1881, check this number of infinity... Nice and comfortable place, nice rooms, good fish and chips in the bar, expensive bar tough...
Stayed during Covid pandemic. When we arrived at the bar and ordered a drink the glass had lipstick stains on it and when asked for a new one the second one had also a lip stain mark on it. During these times with the pandemic I found this very unacceptable! For breakfast we had a table booked and seated And told our order would be taken right away but had been waiting over 15 min for our order to be taken and staff had to be approached and reminded that we still had not placed our order. The rooms hair dryer not working the heating in the room not working no toiletries in the bathroom and only one paper cut for coffee for two people saying. Not enjoyable stay at all considering the reputation of the Clayton hotels around the country. Will not be returning again !
Had an excellent stay with my mother. It was my birthday and John the night manager went above and beyond to make sure we had a great night. Will definitely be back!
Dropped in for a quiet drink at the end of a busy week. Service was slow but we talked while waiting at the bar.
Fantastic value, location and staff. I will definitely be back.
Fantastic service from start to finish. Room was beautiful and clean. Food was amazing too. We will definitely be back soon.
Location was good bedlinen, towels were good. Room overall ok, but some items need to be upgraded such as bathtub & curtins cleaned. Staff in bar were lovely, corteous and polite, even if overwhelmed at times.
This hotel is fine for what we were using it for,a short stay. The staff are friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. This is the second time I have used the hotel and on both occasions the meal was not great.I would use the hotel again because it is handy to the RDS but I would eat out.
Very nice for breakfast, staff is lovely, food is very good and reasonably priced.
Very nice hotel near the center of Dublin by bus (stop right outside), spacious and pleasant room, tasty breakfast for all tastes (vegetarian, gluten-free, ...), in addition the friendly and attentive staff.
Everything was just on point. The check in was flawless and the room was super clean.
Fabulous hotel in a great location. The refurbished rooms and comfortable. Breakfast is great value and a wide selection to choose from
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Location is great, just outside city center. The hotel has recently been renovated and has a lovely cafe, bar, and restaurant.
Had our Christmas lunch here today and although we all enjoyed ourselves it's not a place I'd be in rush to go back to. The general areas of the hotel could do with a lick of paint and a good clean up, the carvery meal in the restaurant was just okay, nobody had any complaints but nobody at the table praised the food either, it was just okay. When I went to wash my hands I found no soap in the sink dispenser, no paper towels and when using the hand dryers the smell was less then pleasant and this is after the toilets had been checked 4 times
Rooms and breakfast are fine, the reception staff are really ignorant, barely get a word out of them, was told this before and now I know it's true
Absolutely loved my stay at the Clayton. Would have to say I was very impressed with the room quality and the comfort of the bedding. Have not slept that well in a long while. Shower facilities in the room were also incredible, really enjoyed my stay.
I was very reluctant to leave.
This hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Convenient to catch bus or train into downtown Dublin . Room was nice sized and clean. The bed was not as comfortable as we would have liked it but that is the only thing aboit this hotel that was not too notch. The bar area and restaurant downstairs was great. Get the fish and chips! You won't be disappointed!
I have stayed at this hotel many years ago and enjoyed my stay. But this time I found the staff to be exceptional. They could not do nough to obligage nothing you asked for was any trouble to them. Fantastic stay highly recommended. I do hope I can return again soon
Thank you all so much for a unforgettable stay.
Regards to all. Kathleen FLYNN room 569.
Overall enjoyed my stay, with only one downside - seems like when the hotel is full, the shower water temperature varies considerably and surges from cold to scalding - which borders on the dangerous! This is especially true in the evenings / night, but is limited to some rooms.
the choice of vegetarian food in the restaurant and bar is very limited.
Quite nice hotel, although there is no gym and the rooms lack a fridge. Beds are very comfortable. Location is nice, very calm and quiet neighborhood, walking distance from Dublin Bay with picturesque views.
Grand old hotel, clear to Dublin city with plenty of transport options. Big bar area downstairs
One of the best hotels we have stayed in. The food in the restaurant was top class. The staff in reception were extremely helpful and friendly.
We very much hope to stay again in the future
We had a great 4 night stay, don't think you should have to pay for the car park????.
Very nice hotel with perfect connection to the city. Actually we wanted to have breakfast outside, but it was so delicious in the hotel that we had breakfast there every day. For guests it costs 13 . The staff are very accommodating.
This hotel has such a fascinating charm that it takes you to the 50, it is incredible, and a very good option to stay in the center of Dublin, since you can move to the center on foot
Excellent meeting facilities, with fast, reliable Wi-Fi and very helpful staff.
Hotel from the outside very pretty and impressive. Inside ok in the corridors. The pictures of the rooms shown on the internet are probably pictures of the deluxe rooms or suites. Normal rooms are more dark brown in the colonial style. Cleanliness ok.
Breakfast for 14, - not ok. Coffee laff and the scrambled eggs do not deserve the name. For the offer (quality) would be justified 5-6. Anyone who claims otherwise has no idea about enjoyment of food, but only food intake. Every B & B on our trip to Ireland was better by far.
Great location. Short walk to places. Dropped off outside direct from airport air coach.
The building is beautiful. The room size is a bit smaller, but the room's equipments, snacks, coffe is better than the the other hotels in this category.
We had a great experience. I just wished for getting the most expensive room and package we could get complimentary parking.
5* for customer service. Excellent staff tonne fair. After reading previous comments was concerned. However the staff couldn't do enough for you. They were so helpful and polite in the front desk, let us check in early, all very straight forward and no faff whatsoever.
The bar staff were spot on. A chap there called James A was an utter legend and a funny guy whose service was outstanding.
The rest was just average. Nothing bad at all, but nothing wow at all either.
The hotel room didn't have a minibar innit, which isn't a problem, just noted that at 3in the morning when gasping for something to drink fizzy pop or water, so on.
They did have a bottle of fizzy and a bottle of still complimentary water in the room though.
Room service comes with a standard 7 added on to it no matter what you order. But, the food itself is a decent quality and arrives really quickly.
The room was clean and tidy and had decent dressing gowns, those freebie slippers, a good iron and board, and lovely pillows!
The breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. For 15 (13 if you use the discount card the receptionist gives you), the sausages were not great at all, bread was standard medium sliced white supermarket bread, all other ingredients very standard the orange juice cheap rubbish, and you would think they would have a better quality to offer their guests, this is the sort of breakfast you'd expect in a travel lodge, not keen at all.
All in all a lovely hotel, outstanding staff, with a few minor tweaks it could be a really great hotel. More than happy to go back there again, but won't opt in for the brekky!
We had a lovely stay, the room was comfortable and clean. The staff where friendly and helpful.. would definitely stay again..
Very nice hotel, good food, also suitable for short break. Bus will take you from the airport
We enjoyed our stay in the Hotel which was very comfortable. We very much appreciated the upgrade in the room which was beautifully furnished, warm and cosy. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall could not have been better & we hope to stay at the hotel again.
Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms, great history.
A bit away from the center of town but a good hotel.
The almost perfect hotel!
Stayed here over the weekend with a large group of people. Safe to say we were all catered for!
rooms were extremely clean and were also turned over everyday. Our room had two double beds a tv, iron, kettle with coffee & Tea and a hair dryer! The bath room was also pretty much on point!
Hotel has parking for a fee, didn t have a currency exchange and the baggage store was pretty handy at the end of the stay!
Breakfast in the morning was amazing. Had pretty much every single breakfast item you could think of!
The down side to this hotel was the service in the restaurant. Went down for lunch on the Saturday and Sunday both times it took far too long to be served even after going to the bar and trying to order food there and then just saying someone will be with us! On the Sunday I waited so long to be served I just gave up and went to Tesco and the trusty meal deal sufficed! 10/10 for the service in Tesco!
The food was great but the allergy numbers were a bit confusing as there is different numbering for the food and cocktail which are in the same menu.
Hello,
We were unhappy with the room. On arrival we had only one towel in the bathroom which was used and very dirty, we subsequently called reception who had to provide us with more towels which smelt very musty. The bed sheets were also dirty when we arrived. Overall the hotel needs an upgrade.
Unfortunately we do not anticipate staying again.
Kind regards
Rebecca
In the middle of a refurb so imagine when finished will be much better. At the moment the daytime has a soundtrack of drills blaring in the background and an inescapable smell of paint. Breakfast good and staff helpful. Rooms desperately need air con.
The Ballsbridge hotel is an amazing historical structure in one of the nicest parts of Dublin. We were there during the International horse show, so it was also fun to see all the horses (although we were there for a Taste of Ireland Tour with CIE the horse show was an added benefit for my friend and I since we are both "horsey" people). The room and beds were comfortable and the food was excellent!
Not a bad stay, although not quite what I was expecting. Good breakfast, convenient location. Room was old fashioned and a bit charmless, room service dinner lukewarm and not great tasting, and service acceptable but no more
Looks beautiful from the outside. Guest service was exceptional as they kept our bags for two days. Rooms were stuffy and warm when we were there in July. No air conditioning. No washroom fan so washroom also gets stuffy after a shower. Location is okay. A ten minute walk to the nearest restaurant (not counting the hotel restaurant). Nice neighborhood. Very clean and quiet.
Fantastic value for money and great hospitality - enjoyed a three day break in this lovely hotel.
We came here for an afternoon lunch. The service was friendly and the food was alright. There was 2 hours of free parking in the underground car park if you eat at the restaurant, which to be honest was why we chose here. We were meeting family and parking can be difficult in Ballsbridge.
I like coming to the hotel to sit in the large booth seats in the corner to get work or writing done. Peaceful and spacious location.
Cool architectural place, not far from the center, nice room with huge beds
Beautiful hotel
The staff makes the effort to be understood, it is very pleasant.
Clean room and quite spacious.
Smoking area outside.
Breakfast with choice and you can ask for other things if you wish.
We regret the nonexistent groom for the luggage and the lack of mini-bar, it is always appreciable!
Hotel room was fabulous as was the bar. Staff are very welcoming and accommodating. Beautiful piano playing on the Sunday. Great location close to the RDS OR AND Avivia stadium. Only complaint I have and not a major one but didn't impact greatly on our full Irish breakfast was poor quality of the sausages they were inedible very grizzly I would recommend another supplier perhaps o'neill sausages which some catering places eh hotels in South East buy in at reasonable price. Other that that beautiful hotel wonderful staff. Thank you for our pleasant stay
Nice and cozy ambiance.great for dine in and awesome food selections!!!
Hotel very beautiful, very comfortable beds, which surprised me is the lack of a contact adapter - you can buy at the reception for 5 euros. It's a small minus. Rooms clean and tidy. It is not very modern but pleasant. I recommend :)
Bar area is a bit soulless. No music and quite cold
Nice place, oozes class. Lovely bar and seating area, so much space.
Rooms are large although the furniture is also large which can create a feeling of clutter.
More plug sockets needed in the rooms. None by the beds.
Very clean and really friendly staff.
Will definitely be back when watching the rugby at the RDS, perfectly located.
Very nice hotel, modern rooms and very friendly staff! The only drawback is the eternal same breakfast with hardly any fresh vegetables. Otherwise, everything your heart desires!
Great staff. Clean rooms. Short taxi to the city centre. Beautiful building. Parking under the building makes it easy to being luggage up if you have a bag.
Stayed 17th june. Room 620. No air con. Room sweltering. Paid 331. Includes breakfast. Sausages and bacon cooked on 1 side only. White pudding totally undercooked. Coffee DREADFUL. Add insult to injury charged 12 for parking. Receptionist never bothered to ask if we enjoyed stay (probably just as well for her).mattress dreadful
The same man was on reception when I checked in and checked out. He was most pleasant and welcoming and very helpful. The room was very comfortable. I would stay again.
Excellent hotel, very comfortable rooms and a wide choice of breakfast. The only drawback, not really central but well connected with the bus line.
