I was traveling for work and decided to stop into this studio for a class. I have practiced yoga for 15 years and love stopping into studios when traveling. The studio is gorgeous and the boutique offers lots of clothing (I had to hide my wallet). The staff was really nice and great to talk to.
However the 75 Min. BE FLO Vinyasa Yoga was disappointing because it wasn t vinyasa yoga. It did not connect breath to movement and was very slow paced, holding poses for 10 breaths at a time. We spent about 15-20 minutes doing shoulder openers and at least 30 minutes on the ground before ever standing. My coworker and I both complained to each other that our feet fell asleep while sitting on the ground for so long. There were no arm balances, no inversions, and we only went through a true vinyasa maybe 4 times over a 75 minute class. This style was honestly more Hatha yoga than vinyasa, so I wish it wasn t advertised as vinyasa. My coworker left really puzzled (she hadn t done yoga before) and told me she thought vinyasa was supposed to be one breath per movement and fast paced. So we both left the class and decided to go work out for an hour afterwards at another gym. Don t get me wrong, it was relaxing, beautiful setting/studio, good music, and the heat was good; however, we didn t build heat with the movements in the class and it wasn t vinyasa. The end of class was also odd with completing om while laying on your back, saying namaste before savasana, and not being queued to end savasana. I guess that s all preference and subjective though.
If I m in town again soon, I ll stop in again and ask which classes are a true vinyasa and fast paced. I m only knocking one star because it didn t meet my expectations and I wish that particular class wasn t advertised as vinyasa but everything else at the studio is top notch.
