We had an amazing experience with the ACCT. We found a stray kitten in our yard, with burned, scabbed paws and an abscess on her back. PAWS was booked up, but told us to contact ACCT. Naturally, I was a little hesitant to take the poor kitty to animal control, where I assumed they would immediately put it down. I couldn't have been more surprised. We arrived and waited only a short while- the woman at the desk was kind, compassionate, and very patient. We had wanted to foster the kitten if she was healthy enough, so we went to see the in-house vet. A vet tech met with us and then took our little patient back to see the vet- we waited (in angst, with much hand wringing) for the kitten to return. A short while later, the tech returned and gave us the scoop: they had cut off the scabs on her paws (since they were filled with dirt and would not heal properly otherwise) and had drained her back. But the best news: she was going to be ok and we could take her home! The tech gave us an antibiotic, pain killers, and a soak and salve for her paws, along with detailed instructions. We returned a few days later for a check-up, vaccinations, and the spaying.

While I wanted to do everything I could to help this poor kitten, I was concerned about the cost of her care. Thankfully, the ACCT has an amazing program for stray cats called Safe at Home. If you find a stray cat and would like to keep it, they will vaccinate, spay/neuter, clean ears, and deworm your new friend all for FREE! I was so relieved I nearly cried. (I should note that we will be making a donation to assist their programs. I feel I owe this much to the team at ACCT).

I can now report our little kitten (named July) is doing marvelous. She has come a long way: from a bone-thin animal barely able to stand, to a ferocious, curious kitten who loves to play. Her recovery would not have been possible without the dedication of the ACCT. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff: every single worker, from the desk staff to the vet techs is knowledgeable, kind, and truly love animals. I absolutely recommend the ACCT to anyone in need of a pet!

Kind people altered a street cat, gave him all shots, & offered to put him up for adoption, if necessary. I found a home for him. There was no charge, & they would appreciate only a contribution. Even at a distance, i would definitely return. At this time i'm recommending Acct Philly to my neighbor.

Adopted my dog 3 months ago. Finally got him neutered yesterday. Picked him up and he was fine up until about 1030 when I get a call that the dog is bleeding all over the floor. Turns out they did not put the glue in right. Had to pay $200 at an emergency vet clinic for the vet to flush and glue him. ACCT does not answer the phone And only seems to answer through email. If you adopt an animal, that s great, but I don t recommend them neutering your dog at this location.

I lost my dog a few weeks ago, I reported him lost. I happened to check in on their dogs that were available to adopt and saw my pup. I immediately drove to the location, my fee's were waived & I got to bring my baby back home. Everyone there was extremely friendly and looked like they enjoy working with animals. I may go back to adopt a dog when the time is right. Thank you so much ACCT team!

I wouldn't EVER call these people again. I called because a kitten was in the alleyway crying meowning franticly i think its mom cat was in a fight with something but left the kitten. It appear the kitten had severely injured its back or spinal it couldn't walk. I couldnt get to it and even if i could i dont have any knowledge of the proper way to have helped it. Long story short i had to endure watching this baby kitten suffer struggle cry and die. I know it couldve been saved. If they would have helped. Instead the person was rude insensitive and hung up on me after tell me to climb the fence and get it and put it in a box. Then call back. People who don't care for animals should not be in that position or work in a facility that is suppose to rescue or help. Its sad. It made me so angry that i wished i was an uncaring and irrational person cause at that moment i want to go to ACCT. 111 w Hunting Park and hurt that person who said there name was Amy. Thats why its so much cruelty in the world. Kindness and Love has to be shown even in the little things and times.

My dog got out during shoveling our yard. He ran to a major street where police picked him up and took him to animal control. When I arrived, after going to the SPCA first... The staff was helpful and after proving ownership allowed me to tour the main holding area for our dog. Upon signing him out he got shots, rabies tags and a license with gps.
Chipping was also offered. I paid a discounted fee and brought him home. The entire process took about an hour.

I love this shelter because it does not turn down ...

I love this shelter because it does not turn down any animals that are brought in but will no longer be fostering through them. It is very hard to get in contact with anyone here. I went to take my THREE foster kittens to get their first rounds of shots and proceeded to wait outside in the rain as employees walked past the door and ignored my knocking. Finally receive some help and the lady had no idea what I was talking about. She brings out the Vet to talk to me and I am told they have received an emergency animal in the shelter and could not see my animals today.
she told me I could wait but it could take all day. The vet calls me no more than 15 minutes later after I was told they weren't going to be seen today and tells me they can take them. The vet the entire time had an attitude and was very rude and even hung up the phone on me because I had already left and could not bring them in.

This is 3 stars instead of 5 for something that may not entirely be their fault. My ex called me to see if me and my son could take his cat if he needed us to, then he passed away days later. They removed the cat from the home that same day, a couple hours before I got to his house, then wanted $40 to get the cat back (which I had to borrow as it was a day before payday) and I had to get shot records with my name on it (thankfully I took the cat to the vet under my name while my ex and I were still together years ago). Otherwise our poor cat, who was so aggressive toward staff out of fear, would have been stuck in a cage covered by a blanket for 5 days (she was the only cat out of many who's cage was completely covered), then put into "adoption status" open to the public (leaving her petrified for 5 days in the dark when I wanted her immediately). I believe they would have euthanized her because of her attacking them to the point that they were afraid to give her shots. She would have been deemed unadoptable. The day after I got her home she readjusted to her normal self and is happy, loving, and playful with my cat.

They got 3 stars because the staff was amazing, helpful, and worthy of 5 stars, but they're forced to follow rules that are worthy of 1 star. Even if your spouse passes away while you're at the market, they'll remove your pet from the home if nobody is home.... you won't be able to reclaim the pet if your spouse happened to be the one to take him/her to the vet.

I've included pics of the docile kitty, Opal, at home with her new loving family, as well as a photo of the first few minutes we freed her in the pet carrier.

They really work hard on finding homes for city's shelter pets. It was difficult to understand adoption process as there is little signage on no area specific fir reception/information although they are in the middle of a huge renovation project that is being worked on by those employees as well so right now its very confusing how to meet pups, procedure for taking pets out of cages, no signage, and sone of the staff do not communicate well with customers. Overall they do appear to genuinely care and work hard on the behalf of shelter pets.

Do NOT adopt! They adopt out sick and nasty dogs. They all claim the dogs have been temperament tested but it s a LIE! They attack other dogs and people! I have been going around collecting signatures of people who have been victimized by this shelter! The volunteers are also mentally ill. They stalk people on social media and make up lies. They let ANYONE be volunteers there including addicts one in particular named Aja. BEWARE!!

I found three stay kittens in my backyard, I cared for them about three months. I took one in. Unable to care for the others. I was able to capture one Because, they were very scary and untrusting of me. On 8/31 I took the one I caught to Acct. On the morning of 9/8 I opened my back door and to my suprise the kitten I had taken to Acct and along with the other kitten was sitting on my back steps. Can anyone explain to me how a 5 month old kitten can travel the distance of at least 8 miles on his own. When he was to be under the care of Acct. I provided Acct with all my address and information. I find it hard to believe that the kitten escaped from the compounds of Acct and navigated his way back to my residence all on his own without any assistance. I'm anxious to hear from Acct but, I have to wait 24 hrs. MYSTERY!!!

I would strongly advise everybody who sees this to go look up Kim McNally Schmidt on Facebook and read her post about what happened to her cat at this facility. Absolutely disgusting act done by someone here. I have never been here myself, but I just wanted to let as many people as I can in on what I just read. This place should be investigated and shut down immediately.

I came into ACCT yesterday to adopt a cat. I LOVE ...

I came into ACCT yesterday to adopt a cat. I LOVE CATS. I think they're the BEST! I've adopted 2 from ACCT in the past. 1 was from petsmart that I for kept for 15 yrs before she passed away and the other I still have and have had her for approximately 8 yrs.
I spent almost 3-4 hrs waiting to be seen to complete the adoption process, only to have had the bad luck of being interviewed by a staff member who had a negative disposition and I felt he was completely bias by the time he had to interview me, as I heard him making an under breath racial comment ("that mindset, you know. And it's always us/black people. I don't understand that.") As he and I and the person he was speaking of are black people, and it did not help that I had on a red, black and green / African head wrap.
He also felt it necessary to "scold" ME about not being in the waiting room when my name was called.
I checked how many people were in front of me BEFORE I went back to see if any new cats were put into the area where the cats were before making my FINAL choice. There were 2 people in front of me when I checked and, I had NO IDEA 1 of them was not there, which changed where I was on the list.
To the point of this email, my application to adopt a pet was not approved because I was honest when asked if I had a pet at home and was my pets shots up to date. My answer was no. I did not take her this year yet. For which I then asked him how does ACCT know that when people are telling the truth when say they don't have a pet or they do have a pet and their shots are up to date? He said, we don't know if someone is telling the truth or not but, you just told me that YOUR pets shots are not up to date so, I know because you just told me / you told me the truth. I was FLOORED! So I now know, that in order to adopt a pet you need to lie IF necessary when asked those questions.
I did not like his demeanor, tone or body language and I DEFINITELY did not like or appreciate his stereotypical racial comment. His BAD MOMENT turned out to be a the WORST POINT of MY week. I was VERY disappointed and hurt.
I think he was in a bad way in that moment and his judgement was clouded because of that. I was not treated fairly AT ALL.
Then again, who's STUPID enough to TELL THE TRUTH and screw things up for themselves.?.?.

We just wanted to get a license for the dog we adopted and made the mistake of ordering it online from ACCT. It has been over two and a half months and we still have not received our tags. We've called, we've emailed and still no dog tags. Emails were ignored and phone messages went unanswered. We only managed to reach a person on two occasions and neither time were they at all helpful, just told us to wait longer. Feels like a scam.

ACCT does everything they can to help animals in need. There are so many amazing dogs and cats here that needs homes! Adopt from ACCT I stead of going to a pet shop and save a life. The staff are very helpful for anyone who is struggling with a problem with their pet, and you can tell they truly care about animals.

I ve been calling since Monday for a kitten that s been stuck in a tree at Fairhill Square Park on Lehigh and have been sent to voicemail constantly with no follow up and he s still stuck in the tree. Almost an entire week with no help, food or water. Says they re not busy and opened and yet won t answer any calls or call back, at this point it s an emergency and this is terrible considering they re promote safety for all animals who need it.

They do their best 24-7, 365 days a year to help animals get safely home. It is truly heartbreaking how Philadelphians dump their sick, old, and unwanted pets. Some will land here and get vet care and foster care and forever homes, some will have their suffering ended with kindness. It's a fearful public good, and good people trying. Please spay or neuter your pets! Resources are available!

I adopted a 2 year old pit mix back in 2012. He had two pen pals who came to the shelter each week to help train him, get him outside, and make him more comfortable. This shelter needs more amazing volunteers and donations. As the only open I take shelter in Philly, they take in every single animal that lands on their doorstep. That s a big task for an often under funded and under resources organization. Do you want to see ACCT get better? Put your money and time where your mouth is

I took a very sick cat here I found in Fishtown on Saturday. I just could not do it. You can feel it in your gut that most of the animals are hopeless, if surrendered. I wasn't consoled when I spoke to someone. I said I wanted to foster the animal; that I didn't want her euthanized. They said they'd "make a note," but "no guarantees." Not very reassuring, but no fault on ACCT. This place exists for a reason. The fault goes on irresponsible human beings who shouldn't have animals in the first place and/or uneducated human beings who don't know their options. I'm incredibly happy I decided to leave and pay for the cat's care and organize a foster situation rather than have a dead animal on my conscience. I've learned that there are other options, though not as easy, of course. If you call around and agree to foster the animal, many shelters/organizations will assist with vet care and matching the animal in the interim. Sure, it's time-consuming and stressful. I didn't know this initially and ended up paying for the cat's care myself. I think a lot of people think ACCT is the only option. And it is. If you're a person who just wants to wipe your hands clean of responsibility. Do the right thing. Care for the animal. Organize for it, a loving home.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!

I would give them zero stars if I could.

My friend found a lost dog on the street and took her to ACCT after letting the dog stay at her house overnight. The dog, who she named Penelope, was very friendly and housebroken. ACCT said they would keep the dog for 10 days to allow time for the family to find the dog. My friend followed up 3 days later to check in and ask about adopting the dog if the owners hadn't called yet and ACCT had already euthanized her! AFTER 2 DAYS! My friend had mentioned wanting to adopt her when dropping her off so it is completely unacceptable that they would kill an animal without reaching out to a potential home first! It is also completely unacceptable that they only waited 2 days before murdering her after saying they would keep her for 10 days!

When I asked why they killed her they said she showed signs of being fearful and was a risk to staff members. No duh she was fearful, she was in a new place full of other animals and people she didn't know. And it's hard to believe she was a risk to staff members when she was so sweet to everyone she met with my friend.

ACCT is obviously the worst at understanding animal behavior and does NOT have the interest of the animal in mind. DO NOT GO HERE!

. I have been commenting and emailing and calling all day and last night. I asked to adopt him and explained that I was over an hour away, I tried to fill out paperwork online or through email so the organization, ACCT, knew I was serious about adopting him. At 7:30 last night I received a response saying we close at 8, hope you can make it by then THAT WAS AFTER I had explained I was over an hour away. I emailed back basically pleading to keep him till today so I could come get him and would fill out whatever paperwork they wanted. NO RESPONSE. After almost 24 hours of being ignored I NOW received an email from apparently a doctor within the organization, I m sorry let s give this lady full credit she is Hillary Herendeen and apparently the medical director. She informed me that she was sorry to tell me that he was euthanized last night because they could not keep him on a hope that I would actually turn up to adopt him today. To me that Hope was first of all worth the chance of saving his life, wouldn t you agree? Secondly hoping I would actually show up? I have commented on every post multiple times I have emailed, called, left messages multiple times. That poor innocent dogs life was worth the ONE NIGHT OF HOPE that he needed. This whole situation was handled so unprofessionally and to say these people are animal lovers is an insult to the people who really do love animals. No true animal lover would have had the heart to euthanize that dog last night KNOWING HE HAD SOMEONE TO ADOPT HIM. This organization is awful and it is heart wrenching to see how many animals they euthanize for no fault of the animals. The fact they could have saved one and didn t bat an eye is horrendous. And before anyone comments on this, I know you can t adopt online I was begging to do anything to SAVE the innocent animal. Before you comment about being full, I know that also, but wasn t it worth being extra full for one night to save him? Make it work for one night? Any animal lover would agree with me. He was WORTH that HOPE, the ONE NIGHT he NEEDED to LIVE.

Absolutely happy!! I just adopted my beautiful pitt from acct philly. She is a wonderful dog and im happy to have saved a life. Yes it was busy but at least animals are being adopted. An empty shelter is a blessing. The only reason i can see maybe an issue is because the customers are pushy and rude. If you cant take the time to adopt and make sure all is great then how can you take the time to really care for the animal you adopt. Im very satisfied and i would recommend adopting from acct philly just relax bring all necessary documents and take your time... Being patient is the best way to really make a great choice. Good luck to everyone who adopts. May every animal find there forever home.

Customer service yells at you on the phone when you ask to return an animal that you paid to adopt. They lied about the cat's age that we adopted so they could charge more money for the adoption fee. The cat was much older than they initially told us. I had to take the cat back 5 days after adopting him to be treated for kennel cough.this is the third time I have adopted a cat from there and all three times the cats had to be taken back to be treated for a disease caught in the kennel. I will never go here again to adopt an animal.

I heard about an abandoned dog this morning so I went down to get it but acct was already there. The dog was petrified obviously being abandoned.the three retrievers from acct gave the dog all the time and patience needed to be gathered gently.
The people who are complaining about phones getting answered waiting outside etc, need to understand that this is a volunteer organization. And even further more that they are now volunteering during a pandemic. Be as patient with the staff in facility as their employees are with lost dogs.
