I used to work right across the street when this was the W, you know back in the day as they say. I know it has changed hands over the years but I will say this is nice quality digs! The lobby is gorgeous, and I am obsessed with their light fixtures.

Now, this review is for the bar -- the lobby bar and the bar on the rooftop (okay, the second story rooftop so don't get too excited). Came for drinks one evening and I was with two "regulars" who absolutely love this place for happy hour. We had one drink on the rooftop, one ... oh wait... two in the lobby bar. They make a solid cocktail, the bartenders are super nice and engaging so I can see why my two regulars love this place.

I am going to let you in on two secrets I discovered during this particular visit.
1. If you are hungry, order the fries from the bar menu. They were SO good. I know fries are fries in some peoples minds BUT these were standout fries and we ate every last one of them.
2. There is a bartender in the lobby bar that makes this spectacular, let's call it an elixir. It is sort of like a shot, a shot of amazingness. It has vodka in it, and some fruit stuff along with muddled jalapeno I believe and my god it goes down GREAT. It is his own secret little cocktail recipe, so he has to be there to make it otherwise you will have to come back when he is there. I would go back for this, the fries and the light fixtures by themselves.

Possibly the worst hotel in California. I am staying at the hotel right now and so far it has been my worst experience in California. Literally they don't have room service. Today the house keeper did not clean our room and yesterday they did not bring water. I talked to the reception and they told me "thanks for letting us know!". They offered to send the house keeper at night but I refused.
Our bathroom door is broken. The room card does not work for the elevator. Today I was trapped in the elevator for 10 minutes trying to use my room card to get to our floor.
Anyway, do not come to this hotel even if you get a 60-70% discount offer because believe me, you will regret it...

I was in San Diego for two nights and I can't imagine having a greater hotel experience than Hotel Republic. Staff, rooms, location and cleanliness were all on point. Next time I am in SD, I know exactly where I will be staying.

This hotel is amazing, and I will be coming back, when I visit SD again.
Great staff and service even with Covid and everything. Great about getting us ice when needed.
And the room was super clean, and was great!
Also, the staff at the cafe, even during Covid was super nice and the espresso was a great touch to have, and not just drop coffee!

Stayed overnight and this hotel is great. Beautiful rooms, lobby and attentative staff made the stay great. Food was also excellent. Danielle was also very helpful and helped us find exactly what we were looking for.

Just not a good value. Stained carpet, poor room lighting, cheap furniture, small room, really a disappointment. Nice view of a construction site that I knew was there and asked for a different view when booking. I got this view with the 'upgrade' to a higher room. The pool is a plunge, not a pool. The bar is a bar, but pretentious. We are in San Diego, not Vegas. The restaurant service did improve after I got up and asked if our server would be around soon. Other were being served that sat down well after us. The food was pretty well prepared, but should be for a $15.00 bagel with cream cheese and lox. Not going back.

Major drawback is the inability to break bills into smaller bills for tipping. It took staff 3 tries with valet, front desk, and bar yet nobody could break a bill. Yet there is also no ability to tip cashless.

Update 2: Adrina the Front Office Manager contacted me via email as a result of a survey I submitted. They are working on improving the connectivity and she apologized on behalf of the Front Office. I'm happy with the response.

Update 1: called to ask the front desk about the slow internet. They transferred me to tech support. Each time the call disconnected and I called the front desk again to be transferred. Happened 3 times in a row. Front desk attendant named Candy offered to call them directly and then call me - this never happened. Later that day I was passing through the lobby and overheard Candy complaining to other staff members about me. Today I checked out - no one asked how was my stay or even acknowledged my presence as I took the folio and walked out. I guess the feeling is mutual - bad attitudes, poor service, not staying here again.

Internet couldn't be any slower. Gave up and tethered to my phone. Old Keurig machine in the room. Only one coffee pod. Mini water bottle. Cheap. No central window or light control leaving you on an Easter egg hunt throughout the room before bed to find all of the switches. Even DFW Grand Hyatt has got this covered.

Generally unexceptional. Executive corner room. Marriott gold elite. Would not stay here again.

Very clean and modern rooms, great location, walking distance to restaurants and events , staff was exceptionally helpful. We enjoyed a hot breakfast everyday...I would definitely stay there again..

I stayed at this hotel for four days. I had a blast very clean and nice staff the food was great. The check in and out was very smooth. Housekeeping was super nice and there when I needed anything. The drinks at the rooftop bar we're a little pricey we decided to have one drink and go out where the drinks were cheaper. This hotel is close the the gaslamp, Horton Plaza and Civic and Balboa theaters. Again we had a great time here and will be back.

Seems like a nice hotel. But my rooms ac was broken. I thought it was me but could tell there was about a ten degree difference between the hallway cool and room warm. Called down and their respose was replace the air filter. Gave the next day to fix, but never happened. No real dinning you just order from the bar. Good food but $$$$$.
Would have been only one star but gym was decent. Our company had training over here earlier in the year and we had bad experience with the conference room with hidden fees with equipment we did not request. I decided to give them a second shot but no luck.
Will not stay again and removed from our trusted hotels list.

Very disappointed with this expensive hotel. The entrance and bar are beautiful but that is where the luxury stops. Once actually staying with them be ready for tight rooms with no mini refrigerator or microwave. Want to warm up leftovers from dinner? Was told it will cost me $25 to borrow a microwave! The pool is also tiny with no views of this beautiful city.

Elegant hotel with 19 floors, including a concierge level for Marriott rewards members, gold status and above. Fitness center. Bar and restaurant. Walking distance to the waterfront, Little Italy, and Civic center theater. Valet parking only, with self-park available a block away. Nice amenities in the spacioussroom, including a robe and full size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Full size mirror. Windows open about four inches for fresh air, which is something I appreciate at any hotel. Huge, comfy window seat.

Great place to stay nearby everything in downtown San Diego! Rooms were clean with tasteful recent updating. Delicious food, comfortable beds...but best of all was the staff! Everyone was so kind and professional...made me feel so special The manager, Shawna, the was the best! She went above and beyond to resolve an issue...top notch! I'll be back!

I was really disappointed: a small room; a lecture from the desk clerk on masks despite the fact that I was wearing one; a $9.95 charge for a single night of WiFi (what a freaking JOKE) - this place is seriously overrated.

One of the best hotels I ve stayed at EVER. Friendly staff, decent location, newly updated rooms. Decent pricing for Bonvoy members (and if you get the corporate rate). Could ve been perfect, but a few hiccups. My room wasn t clean when I checked in, there s some debris on the carpet. The other thing is, and I m sure the hotel will think this is a fair review, is I didn t get a complimentary upgrade as a Bonvoy Gold Elite member and I didn t get the Late Checkout because the hotel is busy. Understandable, but still I have to note it as factors that didn t make my stay perfect. But they tried to do all their best to make sure I have a memorable stay.

I was there 2 nights. Quiet place to stay. Good location, not too far from food (Gaslamp quarter or little Italy) and sight seeing places. Unfortunately there is a renovation going on so no lounge to use. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Would not recommend to a friend. Staff is nice, but disappointed in rooms and overall cleanliness of hotel. Still in renovation, did not know at the time of booking. Would not have booked.

Just arrived. Rooms are nice enough however service is lacking. The website claimed "free internet" while booking, however that is not true. Only if you book directly with the hotel through Bonvoy. After arguing with the front desk their final position was we would have to pay $10/day as a result for WIFI to be included. $50 for internet access during our stay is criminal. I'd rather just switch hotels.

Nice contemporary hotel in downtown San Diego. It is relatively close to the airport and the downtown business district. Valet is required to park overnight and is rather expensive. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with large full-length mirrors and bay windows. Overall it was a great hotel, but be prepared for an additional charge for overnight parking.

Clean, nice and friendly staff. Not really worth the price though. For starters, parking is a nightmare. We were told we could use the valet service or park a block and half away since the pay lot across the street was full (where they parked our car each night.) the service was great, but wasn't a cost that we planned on for the trip.
Night life in the area was fairly dead for a major metro area-with the exception on the bar around the corner, we had to walk several blocks to find anything to do.
Add in every time we left the lobby we were bombarded with solicitors trying to get us to sign up "discounted" stays that we "only" had to sit through a 90 min presentation for....We could have stayed at a courtyard for less money and less hassle.

A great Marriott Autgraph Hotel.

A great Marriott Autgraph Hotel.
The Staff is awesome, rooms are very nice and you have plenty of space.
I liked the location, close to the Airport and not to much traffic.
Valet Parking is not inexpensive but it saves you time.
The Hotel restaurant has some choices, perhaps not for everyone.
There are limited restaurant choices in walking distance.

I giving them 4 stars bcuz it is a nice hotel and location. Customer service are amazing front desk and belt man services and room services. My COMPLAINT its about their VALET PARKING. I left my car there, and after my stay (never use my car for the 2 days) they brought my car and i was missing stuff in my car. They made a "formal" complaint. They wrote it. I took pics. Promised GM will contact me. Its been 3 weeks and no one has call me. Its the amount of the part i was missing its the fact they NEVER CARE.... Oh and after 2 days they charge my CC for Valet Parking even though THEY DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF MY CAR
