This is a beautiful place to stay with live music twice a week. The Topside Bar is great. The rooms are very modern with glass showers and comfy beds.

I couldn t say enough how good is the service at this hotel. Everyone was very nice and friendly. It made the stay even better. Room is spacious with a nice window seating. There is keurig coffee machine with some different coffee pods. Location is perfect. Close to the harbor, little Italy, convention center and downtown.
Stores, restaurants, beautiful places around the hotel. You can go to town by bus very easy and cheap, don't forget to use Google helps a lot with the timeline.
I was excited to stay here, but I don't know how there are positive review. The air conditioner is the worst! Our room smells like old cigarette smoke. The bathroom has an awful design. You get water everywhere because there is no door for the shower. The toilet paper is almost behind you and the door to the bathroom is sliding, leaving no privacy when going to the restroom. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone or stay here again
Super nice ambiance! Just went there for drinks for a business Happy Hour, & it was clean, enjoyable, & relaxing.
Was clean, very modern and staff/valet were very nice. The only problem I would see is when we checked out the guy wasn't much help and didn't tell us about when the security deposit they took out would be back in our account. Other then that very good location not too far away from little Italy.
Hands down the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms were spacious and beautiful (both standard rooms and executive rooms) and the staff was fantastic! We had our wedding here and it couldn t have gone any better! Such a fantastic place. Super clean and well taken care of! Would recommend to anyone and everyone!
Nice hotel downtown. Didn't try the restaurants, but they looked nice. Room was clean, well appointed with a ginormous flat screen TV. WiFi streamed my videos without any lag. Stayed one night on business, will definitely be back.
The time there was short and little interaction with the staff. Nice hotel lobby/bar.
Very good amenities , great location and wonderful staff. Highly recommend staying with Hotel Republic.
Great stay. Was able to check in early to a clean room in a quiet part of the hotel. Free Internet TV so you can log into Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and others. There are also a lot of hotel activities throughout the week. Only issue was the room service breakfast card. It needs to be proofread as some options seemed to be missing a section. We got items we didn't order and were charged for them. Otherwise it arrived on time and was delicious. Would stay again as it's a good distance between Little Italy and Gaslamp.
Very cool boutique hotel in the gaslamp district where you can still get Marriott points. Great place to stay drink and eat if you don't want that large hotel feel
A very nice hotel, well located, valets for parking are very helpful and the rooms are spacious.
We stayed here for the weekend, the people here was so nice especially the valet. The hotel has a nice decor and I m obsessed with the window reading nook.
Beautiful hotel, great guest services, easy check in, awesome location. Parking is a nightmare (because of the area and construction) nightly valet rates are outrageous, website says they have fridges in the rooms...they do not
Other than cards that deactivated every day a nice hotel
Great place to stay with clean rooms and good management.
Centrally located in downtown San Diego, this facility offers 19 floors of well appointed rooms, three eateries, an exercise room, pool, and conference rooms. I'm knocking off one start for the lack of a concierge lounge.
Room is very nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. Parking is VERY expensive!
I stayed here for a couple of days and the services was great, room service did an amazing job cleaning the room as well when i requested it and the breakfast is super good and fast.
I was at this hotel for a Superbowl party. We rented a parlor suite. Great size for 10+ people. There was a couch several chairs and a big screen TV. Would use that space again
Good location. Friendly and attentive staff. Rooms are a bit small.
Very beautiful and nice hotel in DT San-Diego. Rooms are clean and newly updated. Very cozy padded window cushions. We came during pandemic, so room service was per request. The only question was why we didn t have a pair of toothbrushes in the room. Not big deal, but at every hotel we re been, brushes were there. Service is good, was very pleased with Malia(or Maria Idk) on front desk. After checkout I found that forgot baby blanket. First guy on the front desk said they didn t find any blanket in our room, however when I called second time , Malia went herself and found it for us. So thankful for that! Definitely recommend this place.
Under construction. AC wasn't working great in the lobby or our room. Disappointing hotel stay for a Renaissance.
Great Staff. Wonderful room with a view. On sight bar and food was fantastic
The only reason for my lower review is that the stay was great, however I left some items in the hotel and I have been in contact with the housekeeping manager for weeks. He states that he has sent everything back, however I have still not received any of my items that I left at the hotel. This is very sad!
Great rooms ! Great service! $50 per day for parking! #Not!
Over priced and still nickle and dimed. 14.95 for WiFi. Was told $48 for parking and when we considered parking on street they dropped it to $35.
Nice looking and comfortable rooms and decent service though, but paying for WiFi in this day and age is ridiculous.
They are clearly geared towards gouging Expense Accounts.
The hotel is very pretty and the people are great. The only downside is valet...but they have a cool set up that lets you text for your car so it's ready when you come down. I would recommend this hotel.
I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights following Christmas. I booked 2 rooms for my kids and I because of the 25% off 2nd room promotion and half off the parking. Well the only thing I got was half off the parking, but DID NOT get the 25% off the 2nd room as I was promised.
When I first checked in I mentioned this discount and the person said, "Oh yeah, that'll be given when you check out."
I went downstairs to check out and mentioned this promotion again but was not given the 25% discount. It took forever to check me out so I thought the discount was being applied. It wasn't until I checked my credit card bill that I saw no discount. This was very frustrating. I also called Marriott Bonvoy customer service but they said they could not help me and to check with the hotel directly. It was too much going around trying to get the promised discount.
Also, there are no coffee makers in the rooms, so I was told by the person that checked us in that there would be free coffee at the bar in the mornings ONLY. The 1st morning I went downstairs and was given free coffee, however the 2nd morning when I went down and asked for coffee, I was asked to pay. I told the bartender that I was a guest at the hotel and that I was told that the coffee was free. He told me that I "must've misunderstood." He was the coffee was only free if I was a "gold" member and on their list. Ha! This was sooo embarrassing. Then he asked me again what my method of payment would be.
Last but not least, as to the parking, the parking for this hotel is an unguarded and dark ACE parking lot across the street in a very shady part of town. I was NOT comfortable leaving my vehicle there 2 nights in a row.
Nonetheless, I DO NOT recommend this hotel. It's member service was horrible. As a Marriott hotel, the only thing charming about it is that it's in a historic building I guess? But there is NOTHING surrounding it except depilated government buildings and homeless people's tents on the sidewalks.
Oh, and the rooms....the bedding is old and worn.
Not a 4 star hotel.... stiff bed... shower door was a half door with a large hole in it. Couple next door fighting at 6AM on a Saturday.... need to oil there housekeeping carts.... loud af early Saturday morning
Very friendly service but no free parking with overnight stay
Pretty nice place so far. Staff seem very friendly but come off a bit snobby so far no complaints I would stay again.
Went with friends for drinks on the cute, hidden rooftop bar. Waitress was friendly enough but the drink was weak, especially given the prices. More ice than drink. Glass was snatched away without before being asked if I was finished.
Good location, staff is great..only downside was the expensive parking and wifi costs money.
Good value for money
This is an older hotel but it is very well maintained and decorated. I found this place on Groupon so I got a really good deal for our trip to Universal Studios. It was only about a 5 minute drive away.
It is very well located, excellent food as well as service, always very attentive and friendly. The only bad thing is the parking lot, 45 usd per night is going long ago. Tips around there are many parking meters just be aware that time does not expire.
I wish I could give ZERO stars because that is exactly what they deserve!!! When the light catches you down comforter just right and you realize they are both covered in MOLD. We were only able to see this because my daughter held it up and the light shined thru it. We have been here since THURSDAY!!!!!!! We were informed these are only changed upon check out of each guest (hopefully)
The house keeping supervisor (who has little to no authority in the hotel) was the ONLY helpful person in this matter.
We asked to speak to a manager multiple times and they told us she was in the back on break and was unable to come out. Are you serious?!? So we go back upstairs to check on our kids. AFTER AN HOUR we go back downstairs to find the manager checking people into the hotel. Not calling us, not checking on us, not asking us if we wanted a new room, no she was busy being front desk support while my family and I dealt with housekeeping.
So now we have her at the front desk, showing her THESE PICTURES and she calmly and with a passive aggressive attitude smiles and completely dismisses us, responds with ZERO concern or offered any help or remedy. She apologized and continued to say "she was not aware she needed to contact us."
I have now DEMANDED the contact information of every single manager above her Then told her to switch my room.
I am in a hotel at least twice a month and normally Marriott Owned. Never in 10 years have I been treated so poorly. I'm pissed. To be continued.
The front desk management was even more dismissive than the front desk lady/"sometimes manager" and told me there is NOTHING wrong with these blankets and that this is their standard! I guess next step is corporate
I have posted pictures to their Facebook review section
The rooms are clean and modern, but a little small. I wish they had a hot tub instead of the small pool, but overall it's a very good hotel in a great location.
Pros: Friendly staff, clean, good location, comfortable. Cons: No pool, expensive parking, bathrooms aren't very private.
Beautiful hotel, wish friendly service and clean rooms. Would definitely stay there again.
My wife and I were happy with this weekend stay. We definitely felt like pampered, valued guests at this boutique historical hotel that's been renovated in the last year. Some notes: -good drink choices at the lobby bar; -second floor patio top restaurant; -italian style scooters available to rent; -short walk to gas lamp quarter; -short walk to little Italy.
I went to the Hotel Republic Bond Ball New Year's Eve party, and they kicked me out before midnight. Sure, I was drinking, but I doubt I was the most intoxicated person there. I was with a group of friends and they wouldn't let me back in to hang out with them. Very disappointed.
I booked this hotel via priceline express amd got a great deal. The hotel was very nice as well as the rooms. I was a bit disappointed there was no jacuzzi. But it's in a great location and was a very nice place to stay.
Great rooms and decor. Very short walk to all kinds of great stuff in the gas lamp district.
If you get a good rate, then by all means this is a good hotel. Quite short walking distance to little Italy, gas lamp, seaport village, midway etc. However, they do apparently market themselves as somewhat high-end, and if that is what you are looking and paying for for, I think you will be disappointed. At least with the rooms. Other parts of the hotel look fresher. The bed is somewhat worn and sagging in the middle. And they do other things that seem unnecessarily annoying. For instance no automatic refill of coffee pods, and WiFi costing ten bucks a night unless you manually provide your Marriott rewards number at the front desk. I will probably look for alternatives upon my next stay in town.
I was in the hotel briefly prior to an event. Very clean and modern. Beautifully decorated and comfortable.
Very nice & quiet. Beds were comfortable & room/bathroom were clean Excellent customer service. I would stay again.
$48 per night for parking even if you are a guest AND you have to purchase wifi. Nice lobby though
The Rooftop bar is pretty cool. Very nice staff and bartenders. Good spot to grab a drink and relax by the fire.
The service was great and just make sure to ask before you do something, like parking or eating breakfast because of the area you will paid for parking, breatfast and any additional items. No pool for now, maybe in the future. Overall the hotel is great and paying valet parking for $47.
Nice room. Not fancy but comfortable. Great staff. Nude area.
Great location in downtown San Diego. The hotel is beautiful and the service is very friendly. Great place.
Probably would give it two stars if either the first room didn't have blood stains all over the carpet or there weren't cockroaches all over their restaurant. The waiter said it happens being outside. Yet the chairs on my porch don't have cockroaches all over them. They also told us they can't offer adjacent rooms even though we booked, paid for, and requested it for 3 rooms well in advance. I'd imagine some people have better experiences but I can assure this is no higher than a 2 star hotel at best.
The hotel is undergoing some sort of update but the rooms were nice and fresh. Downstairs had a cool bar overall a nice stay
Only come here if you want the staff waking you up and barging into your room constantly without authorization... During a pandemic... Literally don't know how they haven't been sued and still in business.
The San Diego Bar Association and the members and the president of the Bar Association always welcoming and giving of their time
Just stopped by there shortly but the place looked amazing.
Everything was great. Beds were comfy, room service was swift. Awesome. However there was a rat in the lobby, and the ham was kinda weird.
Great hotel but the shower door design is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Whole bathroom gets soaked every time you use the shower. Nice staff, really good food, rest of the room was solid. I would come back for sure.
Wow a great little spot, centrally located, posh feeling, very clean and updated. Would definitely be back when I can. San Diego, did not disappoint. Very clean, shame there's a lot of homeless.
Very nice on the inside, definitely renovated! Was only there for a ball, not to sleep there.
Cute rooms, modern but dated , no fridge, no full mirror. Totally clean, safe and would recommend
Great hotel. Loses a star because there's no pool and the restaurant manager was a little snarky with me. Rooms are great though, location is good and it's a very attractive place.
Really enjoyed our stay, great room with a good view and it's a nice location (quiet part of downtown but easy to walk up to areas with more nightlife.)
Only issue was the hot water was barely lukewarm by late morning. We were racing checkout time so didn't call down to troubleshoot.
Very nice hotel in downtown San Diego, large room with nice layout. Large padded window bench seating was nice touch. Great rain head shower, no tub which I like; plenty roomy for 1 or more people. Bathroom counter was roomy and accommodating.
For a Marriott property the lounge was quaint and nothing to write home about.
Staff were all outstanding and looking to do whatever you needed. Great experience for me, be happy to return here in the future.
Downside was dining options in hotel upon my arrival on Sunday early evening (1700). However there are many options off site in the downtown area.
The hotel itself is very 'trendy' and has a roof top restaurant/bar area that seems like a great place to grab a drink after work. The huge issue I have is that my company wanted to rent out space for a holiday party. We had 3 contacts there all of whom didn't respond to emails & calls. It wasn't until we physically went in to talk to someone that they paid us any attention. The Director of Food + Bev promised to follow up with us that same week. Two weeks went by and we were calling the hotel, emailing the contacts, and no response. I would assume by the customer service they provided for us, that this would be a difficult place to stay and especially if you needed something from staff. Extremely disappointed in their professionalism & hospitality.
Crazy hotel with something always going on. Good place for the young crowd
Nice, comfortable hotel in a central location for downtown. Friendly & accommodating staff. Good food & drinks at the restaurant. My only complaints are 1) the barn-door style door to the bathroom isn't very private (visually & audibly), so consider that when you share the room with someone, even a spouse or significant other, and 2) the hotel guest WiFi has an invalid SSL certificate on the host used to sign in. In this day & age, that's unacceptable.
We have stayed at Hotel Republic in San Diego many times. It's always a pleasure. Very friendly staff and everyone is very accommodating. Thank you Jordan, Joe, and Roger for the great service. Isiah at the front desk was awesome as well!.. Thank you again everyone!
Very nice hotel. Water in the shower was cold at one point but has been hot ever since.
Wow, the reviews below do not reflect our stay this week. From the moment Abe welcomed us to this property, everyone was exceptionally helpful, and charming. The absolute highlight was the outstanding breakfast. It was unique, flavorful, attractively presented, and most importantly DELICIOUS!! Our server was amazing, and the chef inquired as to whether there was anything else we needed.
Just to put my comments into perspective, we stay in hotels, throughout the world, several hundred nights a year. I look forward to another stay at this property. Thanks for making this stay so special.
Lets start with the aesthetic of the hotel is super chic and modern. The location is so convenient, close to everything/ walkable distance. The staff is extremely nice and professional. Brandon was the one who checked us in and he was exceptional.
Not that we had a problem with it but just had to share, they do not offer parking. They have Valet parking for $48 a day with access to go in and out as you please, or you can park across the street for $40 with one entrance. So naturally the hotel offers a better deal, but still had to report.
The views from our room on the 18th floor were amazing day and night! Love San Diego but staying in a hotel with a view makes it even more beautiful. Definitely coming back!
Great experience overall. The food was great the snacks for our work event were acceptable! Will highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel had wonderful service. From the roof bar, to the front desk, and the valet service, everyone was extremely nice. The hotel decor in the lobby was modern and fun, but the rooms felt like living in an IKEA show room, and a dated one at that.
We had a Corner Room, the biggest room on the floor, and it was still small compared to other hotels in the San Diego area. The, so-called, wonderful skyline view is a joke. You get to look over the run down part of San Diego, away from the main skyline. Most of the time, the blinds remained shut. It is not walking distance either to most things.
I had a decent time at the hotel, but I will not be recommending or staying there again. Their slogan is "what ever you want", but they put the other half in the fine print at the bottom. Should read, "Anything you want, but comes with a 20% service charge and a $5 service tax. If it's from the mini-bar add a $5 restocking fee."
I was there for the bond ball over new years and it was litty
Staff was wonderful and accommodating in our community organized event
