Contemporary hotel. Modern, efficient, expensive and goofy. Hotel is clean and convenient to the San Diego attractions. Beyond that, $$$ and lacking. King bed room didn't have a sitting chair. Has a 4 ft tall window seat, with no back and no safe way to get up ...
For the price you might think you'd get a fridge - but no.
Oh, and $45 per night parking.

Hotel was good, Employees were kind, Room was clean all except the bathroom towels, it was either chocolate stain on them or the other. Hotel was completely full which is good for them but bad for someone like me. Walls are seriously thin. and the people next to me liked to get loud and play there music. When I called down to the guest services desk I asked if they could please ask these guest to tone it down.

Either the guest didn't listen or the front desk person did not call. The front desk person never called, the walls are that thin, the guests phone never rang. My last day here asked for a late check out nothing crazy just instead of 11am, I asked for 12pm. The front desk person let me know that he would only let me stay till 1130. That 12pm he would have too charge me for another night. I know that other 5star hotels I have stayed in would have been OK with a 12pm check out.

But it's these small things that I believe make a Hotel really standout, either in a good light or bad. I would stay here again but it would not be my number one choice. Top ten but not the top five.

I am so surprised by the influx of good reviews for this hotel. My boyfriend and I stayed there for two nights over the weekend and were entirely disappointed. It looks so different online! It's a good location and it's clean, but definitely more so for a quick business trip. I would not recommend staying here if you're vacationing in San Diego and want to truly enjoy everything it has to offer - even in a hotel setting... We were very surprised to find out there wasn't a jacuzzi or pool! That was a deal breaker for us. I paid closed to $800 for two nights, for a room without a view, no pool or jacuzzi, no bath tub, and was $50/night for parking... the cons definitely out-weighed the pros on this one.

The Hotel Republic is a lovely little hotel. Check-in was an extremely pleasant experience, and my dinner and drinks at the bar was very nice. My room was cute and clean, but I did experience an odd noise that kept me up most of the night. I don't know if it was elevator mechanism, or a faulty toilet, but it sounded like someone was power washing the opposite wall sporadically all night. Other than that, the bed was comfortable, the shower nice, TV worked well and the decor was pleasing. Overall a good stay. I'd stay again but probably request a room away from the elevators.

Beautiful rooms and great roof deck. There aren't any restaurants immediate nearby, but it's a very quick walk to both Little Italy and Gaslamp. My only issue was that my room didn't have any brochures or anything with information on the hotel, when to checkout, the on-site restaurant, etc.

There is absolutely no way this is a four star hotel. Completely disappointing stay. Terrible view. Staff was lackadaisical. The tv was small and the towels were DIRTY. If you stay here check all your towels prior to using. There are basically no amenities because of COVID and they had us pay $35/ night for parking across the street next to a bail bonds. Lackluster area. The only good thing is that it s close to other attractions. Will not be back. We were here from Tuesday to check out on Friday and the stay did not get better. Also stains on the carpet floors. So gross.

Great experience! Staff was friendly, helpful with every question. Room service breakfast was delicious and delivered on time. Beautiful property. Love the rooftop bar with live music, great vibe.

Great Boutique style hotel! In a great location downtown, walking distance to everything. The docks to take the Ferry across to Coronado or to walk along the Bayfront area & the Gaslamp district. Only disappointment is no Bay view rooms and the rooftop lounge is really on the 5th floor I believe, not the actual top of the Hotel. Oh, also you need automatic doors at the entry! They were accommodating of me coming in after 11pm Pacific time given it was a week day and I came all the way from NC but no door staff at that time so trying to come through w bags and arms full was well let s say not fun lol overall great hotel, clean and friendly staff. Rooms were super clean which you come to expect w Marriott Hotels. Oh and I loved the bay window nook area for sitting.

Had a good experience staying at this hotel for one night on a Saturday. The lobby looks really nice with a bar located in the check in area and the rooftop. The room was very clean and had a nice updated, modern look to it. My lady loved it too. The smart TV lets you sign in to your personal Netflix, Pandora, Hulu accounts etc. which is nice. Just a 4 minute drive from the Gaslamp Quarter where we went out clubbing.

Just a couple of small things I didn't like were the fact that the parking at the hotel is $47 so you should either find street parking which can be difficult or pay for the $20 per day lot nearby. They also charge for hotel WiFi packages so there is no free WiFi available. Also, the sliding door on the bathroom does not have a lock on it so not a whole lot of privacy there but other than that it was cool.

Poor service, on responsive GM, staff only care about the money. Business center did not work for 2 days, continually told someone would work on it but no ownership of a problem. As a platinum member would expect better.

For a four star hotel the rooms were amiable and the price was fair. The bed was beyond comfortable and the window box seat was a cool feature. We didn't dine or patron the bar but the front desk service was personable and very down to earth. If this is the standard of their staff then it is definitely a place worth visiting if you have a business trip. Only a short walk from most popular downtown locations but mainly centered in the business district. There was a peculiar odor in the hallway however this could possibly be attributed to the guests vice cleanliness. A pleasant stay and a unique style.

Very good at giving that "extra touch". Doormen who actually open doors for you. Front desk staff that greats you with "welcome back!" when you return. David and Taylor in the Platinum Lounge are the BEST!

Service at the Kelvin restaurant was lacking. We were not checked on and our waitress seemed incredibly confused. We had a limited time window, as we had a play to attend. We discussed this with the manager prior to being seated, and he promised he could meet our needs. After taking our drink order, he vanished. He never came back and definitely did not fulfill his promises. The food was decent in taste, but cold when we finally received it. The drinks were well made. It was our first experience at Kelvin and I'm not sure I'd go back.

Best modern hotel in San Diego. Great value and pay a little more for the corner room. Well worth the minor up charge. You will thank me later. Also Marriott rewards Platinum members get free breakfast and appetizers in the evening which also include wine. If you like the W style hotel but half the cost book this hotel. Best value in town

Convenient location near the government district, walkable to the Gaslamp Quarter and plenty of other restaurants and coffee shops. Newly remodeled rooms look nice, but the finish quality is comparable with most other mid-range hotels. Service has been great.

Nice

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!

Made a reservation for a special birthday weekend. When we arrived the room wasn't ready and after waiting for an hour we were moved to a completely different room than the one we booked. When we asked why we waited for a sub par room and what the issue was we were finally told it was due to availability and that they gave it to someone else. Then they tried to charge us for the executive room that we didn't even stay in. I've traveled the world in the Navy and have stayed in roach motels with better service then this place. I will never stay at another marriott and will advise anyone I know not to. Don't give this establishment your money and find a better spot to stay in when visiting San Diego.

This place was awesome as the W. We stayed here in lieu of paying Uber surge on New year's, so it was good enough as a place to crash. For the price, though, I would have expected them to have things like vending machines or a mini fridge. I was also a bit sad they took out little pleasantries like robes. No free Wi-Fi or parking, either.

The hotel accommodated both our early checking and late checkout request. The deluxe room was furnished with modern accesories and the king bed was very comfortable. The rooftop bar was really nice.

I disagree with what Michael said about the staff. I found them to be very kind and helpful. But I do agree with him that you could stay anywhere else for the same money and it would be better. This had just opened so I expected it to be new but the TVs, phones, and features seemed to be purchased from an auction when some 90s hotel went out of business. I had 2 phones in my room that didn't work, a TV where most channels didn't work. I've had 120+ nights in marriot properties in the last year, and this was not up to par. Parking was over $40 per night, which is more than the TV in my room cost. 2 stars because staff was awesome. I recommend Residence Inn on pacific highway, it is close, also owned by marriot and 100x better in all aspects.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were impeccably clean. Great location in the middle of downtown, walking distance to little italy. Just beware of timeshare sale desk next to the checkin desk.

Location is good. Great lounge. Sleeping rooms are nice. Used to be a W hotel. Noise from streetcars could get annoying. Short walk to Little Italy or the Midway. Slightly longer walk to Gaslamp District.

Nice atmosphere and design, but no fridge or microwave in the room. There is a bar and room service, but there's no place to store or reheat your food. For the price, that's a basic accommodation that should be provided.

I spent two nights here for my birthday and enjoyed it immensely. The hotel is on walking distance of Little Italy and a number of great restaurants. Just a couple miles away from Balboa Park as well. The staff was very professional and friendly. There are two bars in the hotel with happy hours from 3-6pm that were quite affordable, and the rooftop one was very pleasant. The one downside would be the cost and the $50 parking, but the overall experience was still excellent.

Accomodations were comfy, and the hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel itself lacks dining options, but there are so many restaurants within walking distance that it really doesn't matter.

Nice design, decent food and drinks, good service, outlets (AC and USB) everywhere including next to the bed, only con is sound carries - bring earplugs for noise in neighboring rooms and planes taking off if you are sensitive.

Not knock them on everything the room i got was nice( cool corner ). However the service was HORRIBLE!!!! Check in is at 3:30 arrived at 3:45 and room wasn't ready. Didn't get to my room til 4:30. hense check out is noon. Charged my credit card twice for one stay. Took over a month to take care of it. The greatest part was that every person that I talked to at the hotel said that " my favorite room ". I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY TO STAY HERE. 4 STAR HOTEL YEAH RIGHT WITH A 1 START HOTEL FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. So if you wanna stay at hotel with crappy service here your stay.

Hotel Republic is a top notch boutique hotel under the Marriott brand; sleek, classy styling, excellent drinks at the bar, and good food. The customer service is above and beyond. The food and beverage manager, John, is a top notch host. He really helped me in a pinch to make great impression on the foreign military and civilian dignitaries that I was charged to host with a ridiculously low budget. We had our conference Ice breaker , which involved about military program managers and engineers who traveled from numerous different countries to initially meet and greet at the Rooftop Bar. After my first impression of the hotel, I was concerned that the rooftop bar was not going to offer anything that would fit the small amount of money I was allotted for the function. John didn t disappoint. He worked with my budget and the kitchen produced a beautiful and delicious spread of cheeses, fruits, and crackers. It was a real hit. I am certain that if he could pull this off on my small budget, the food and beverage service for any banquet, wedding or corporate event would be fabulous. If the comfortable beds, lovely aesthetics, and great location wasn t already enough to make me come back, the quality customer service was the icing on the cake. I will definitely be a return customer, and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Loved this hotel!! Beautifully decorated, it stands out from the rest! Love the vibe of this place. Comfy, clean, and well-appointed room. I was impressed with the attentive & friendly service from the room staff, I asked for a couple more capsules for the in room coffee machine and was brought Several capsules, different sugars, water bottles....Very Acccommodating, I love when service is exceeded!! Be sure to have a cocktail on the loungey, pretty terrace.

It was a great stay. Staff was nice and helpful. Had breakfast at both on site locations and it was wonderful! AC was cold and bed was comfy, the TV had apps like HBO So you could choose what to watch. Loves it!

Staff super friendly and the main lobby is really nice we had drinks most nights on our stay. The rooms are nice but a little small, esp bathroom. Restaurant menu isn t appealing so we ate elsewhere which isn t hard cause it s in a great spot. The downside of the locality is there are lots of homeless people In the downtown area so we stayed in after dark because we had young kids who found it very confronting. Overall very happy with our stay ... thanks team !
