Pick a different hospital to deliver your child.

Pick a different hospital to deliver your child.

Nurse midwife, when breaking my water was actually scratching my baby s head with the hook. The scratches are incredibly deep and are still bad one week postpartum. This midwife never showed her face to us again after delivery.

They took my new daughter away to bathe her, which gave her hypothermia, and then sent her into distress with low oxygen levels, and she had to be admitted to the NICU. They later said she was fine, that the low oxygen must have been delivery stress.

I spent the two days after having my baby hobbling down the hallway to the NICU with stitches in me because there weren t enough wheelchairs.

Finally, we re one week postpartum today, and I got a call from my primary care provider. Apparently someone at Vanderbilt just noticed that I had a severe UTI while I was there. I had been begging them to check because I was in so much pain - and they didn t bother to look at the results for a week. A CVS minute clinic can handle testing for and treating a UTI, but apparently not Vanderbilt. This past week has been needlessly painful and difficult because of their negligence.

Run. Fast and far, to any other hospital. We overheard several conversations from nurses about being understaffed and hating their jobs there. Everyone was miserable, and this showed in every aspect of our care.

Edited to add: I contacted patient relations, they did a review of our stay, and did NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE the damage to my daughter's head or offer an explanation. They still expect me to pay for the visit. This is unacceptable.
