This is a review for Vancouver Airport NOT Air Canada. One is an airport and one an airline, how is that hard to understand?

Vancouver Intl is a wonderful airport. Very friendly staff, good selection of food options (not loads but enough) nice and light, easy to navigate. If you can transit through Vancouver over LAX do it! Much nicer experience.

Security line is crazy slow from YVR to US. Even if you have global entry it takes an hour to get thru security and everything else. They also require you to have your card on you at all times which is very annoying. First time I arrived here (different occasion) the baggage claim broke and I had to wait over an hour for my bag. Then I had to wait in an hour long cab line because this backwards city doesn t have uber.

Even with longer stopovers, you can pass the time.
A small playground for the youngsters, such as in Calgary, would be very nice.
The connection to local transport and the shuttle service is simple and understandable.

So pleased and grateful I can call this my local international airport, blows my mind when I fly from here and see the other airports hustle and bustle, makes coming home a breath of West coast fresh air and our laid back approach to life a gifted bonus...

A quiet airport.

A quiet airport.
It is around 30 minutes by Skytrain to the city.
Wifi gets out of something soon.
When entering Canada, Viza's application is required in advance.
After arriving at the airport, I will do the procedure by machine (with Japanese) and take a picture. As something like a receipt with a picture comes out, it will line up in the row of immigration control with it.
* Since the receipt is necessary later, do not throw it away.
After that, if you keep baggage, you will receive the package and head for the exit, but you can finally get out by handing the receipt earlier.

The amount of improvements that have occurred since the 90's is staggering, compared to the Olympics after their first renovation and now even only half way through its development it garners two well managed ports with streamlined routes from security to gates and even back when international arrivals were busy they were always well scheduled for the volume and the entire finished internal design reflects the West Coast with Aboriginal Art and lovely boutiques for travelers.

I have been coming & going through this airport for well over 15 years. Since my visit last time (6 months ago), lot of renovation has taken place. It is a huge airport & especially when you are transiting, from domestic to International you have to walk a lot. It is well laid out with so many options for shopping/dining. Very spacious & can be easily guided by the signage available.

Horrible traffic flow and wait times. If you must fly out of Vancouver, give yourself at least 3 hours to get through security.
Domestic flight security is very cramped, as though it hasnt been updated (since latest regulations now require most people to use 2-5 security bins).
International security lines stretch hundreds of feet into a bottleneck at which a single person asks 'how many are in your party?' and directs you to one of many security lanes that has been empty for about a full minute. They have Wait Time boards that are manipulated by staff running through the line with a mobile scanner. I saw many people miss their flights because of the complete inefficiency of security.
There is no place comfortable within the airport (outside of security) for someone with an extremely long layover to rest. This airport is beautiful but flying out of it is a stressful experience.

Awful experience, after coming from Japan which is too notch in service. This doesn't even compare at all. This place has really long lines in the immigration and customs, the workers are rude. And I don't know why they remove the access from the international straight to domestic, now i have to go walk all the way out, and pad through security again, which is another awful experience.

Beautifully renovated. The highlight for me is the impeccable customer service at this airport. One day, I couldn't locate some relatives I had come to pick up after their International Flight. The customer service agent went on a limb to "search" for my family. Something you don't see now-a-days.

Great place to take a flight from. The staff are friendly and the transit is great. Don't bother trying to find power to charge anything prior to going through security. You won't find anything easily.

One of the most beautiful airport, lots of beautiful sculptures, clean.. If you are flying out, plan to come earlier to explore the airport. Wifi works really well here. Some gates have lots of outlets to charge your electronics. The Duty Free is more expensive unless they have a clearance. Know your prices before you buy make up or perfume. They do have some good size serums at a good price, until you open it up and realize the size is smaller but the packaging is the same.

Staff are very helpful! :) Very good place will recommend! It is a bit crowded and it takes long until your flight. Overall, I'd say this is a very clean place. You can shop until it's time for your flight. Also, a mall is very nearby to this airport. If you want to know about it you can click on my profile to see that mall :)

Great Airport, very well laid our and efficient. All three areas of the airport have now been renovated (domestic, transboarder and international) making it both highly functional and nicely designed. The airport isn't so large that you end up feeling lost. Staff are very friendly and helpful (look for the green vests!)

The international Airport of Vancouver is one of the most beautiful airports in the world. It shows beautiful artefacts of the Canadian culture and has a nice waterfall in the main hall. The food court selection is on international standard and the customs are very effective and friendly. It is perfectly accusable from the city with public transport or private cars. The overall organisation is effective and allows quick processing.

YVR is one of the best airports in the world....Its world class, bright, clean with state of the art architecture and display of arts. Vancouver did a great job here! there is even a skytrain for people who has no ride - this connects the airport to downtown Vancouver. How fantastic!

YVR is a good airport. Clean, easily accessible, and the staff are ready to assist when needed.
On one occasion however, while travelling with my boyfriend, we approached the gate security area and I was allowed through but he was told to wait due to social distancing. Him being Asian and I non-Asian, they assumed we were travelling separately, so I had to turn back and tell them we were together. They looked surprised and said, Oh you are together? so I said, You assumed we weren t. Nevermind the fact that we had been standing together the entire time.
Such ignorance (especially at an international airport) in 2020, and in a multicultural country like Canada is absolutely absurd. YVR should provide better training for their staff to avoid such occurrences.

Have travelled through this war zone on five different occasions, the one time we flew through Winnipeg instead, a little further to go but thank you expedia. We flew on WestJet everytime and they may be part of the problem. When travelling to Hawaii you go through customs then they make you sit in the STUPID little room until you can identify your bags on a computer terminal?? You loaded it in Calgary so WTFrig is that all about. On our last trip to Oahu we sat in the STUPID little room for a very long time waiting to identify our 1 bag. When we finally identified it we were released. We then ran to the other end of the airport the whole time listening to them calling last boarding. When we finally got there they were in the process of closing the plane door. The incredibly rude SARAH lectured us on being late and they generously decided to let us board the plane. On arrival to Oahu the bag never showed up. Could write about 10 pages on this wonderful experience but I think you get the drift. Not sure if this is a WestJet Problem of Vancouver Airport problem but having travelled extensively we have never run into a repeating problem so many times at one airport.

Vancouver International Airport has been rated #1 ...

Vancouver International Airport has been rated #1 airport in North America for many years consecutively. Staff are friendly, and they just revamped the security check. This made security substantially slower and there are many delays. When you depart, there are many First Nation totem poles and hand carved statues. Go out customs is easy if you are a Canadian citizen as you can go out through the kiosk. Great airport!
