This is my favorite sushi place! Found it when we were living in Kenmore and I was busing down to Seattle. Always get a Jimmy Special. If you get a chef's assortment, you will not be disappointed! They are always so kind welcoming.

Had a dinner with the family (of 4) and I have to say this is the worst experience/customer service We had ever had in a restaurant. It's hard for us (me, hubby, two kids 13 & 10) to criticize or complain since we always teach our kids to think of others perspective and situation before judging or complaining but tonight's experience was just too hard to excuse.
We arrived for dinner out, it was busy but not any busier than other places we eat out. We got to our table but thing got sour pretty quickly. Long story short, we waited for good 20 minutes as the 4waitress proceed to sit and serve others (5 tables) that came later than us. I figured they were busy and forgot that they didn't take our order so I finally flag one of the lady taking order of the table near us that we too needed to order. Quick apology and she took our order. However when we finally got our food, especially the Sashimi dinner plate, we were starting to feel bit annoyed. The plate seem to be thrown together in a rush -missing it's basic condiment of ginger and wasabi to name a few. It took us another few minute to even get them. Food overall was average, sashimi had fresh tuna but dry scallop. Other pieces of fish were thin -last end piece? and tasted watery mush. For the price (most expensive dish),this was a disappointing but we just told ourselves "to get a seat at the sushi bar" next time. Even up to this point, we try to make the best of it!!
DO YOU KNOW THAT during our entire meal, not one of the 4 wait staffs check on us nor cleared the appetizer dishes that we set /stacked aside as our main dishes were cramping our table? Wait staffs were busy taking new orders and checking on other customers...my husband joked that we are invisible to them.
Still we were trying hard to be positive, telling the kids that it's busy day (Thur )and the waitress must be having hard time keeping track.. Trust me, both me and my husband had worked in a restaurant, so we tried to be sympathetic. So we decided to eat quickly and just leave. We once again had to flag (raising hand etc)to just get our bill-mind you , we were sitting at our table for a while. Finally, a one of the wait staff bag our left over and left to get our bill. So here is the FINAL RUB...we waited another 20 minutes for our bill. Why wait so long? We were still trying to be sympathetic as they busy themselves clearing and taking in new customers! After all, one of the waitress finally cleared the table and we asked for the bill again!
Our Poor kids were getting restless by now so hubby took them out while I waited for the bill -trying to get the waitress' s attention again. OVERALL we spend more time waiting on the restaurant 'a staff than actually eating the food. DID I MENTION NOT ONE STAFF CHECK ON US NOR FOLLOW THROUGH WITH A BASIC REQURST -taking order or getting the bill to name the very basic?? Frankly, this restaurant is moving toward Quantity ( focus on getting their tables full ) vs Quality (service/food). The few tables that the Waite staff focused on seemed to be regulars... Never coming back nor recommending it to our friends & families. I am sure the business will care less.if we came back...after all we are just one of their many. Nevertheless, I just had to speak up.

When you pay for good sushi, it should be delicate and have great flavor. Not taste like a bottle of perfume. So disgusting. The last order we placed here smelled and tasted like perfume. So gross we couldn't eat the food - a waste of $140.

Not sure about all these great reviews. Service was ok but the sushi felt like the kind you would get at a buffet. I ordered salmon sashimi along with some rolls. The salmon looked like it was salmon scraps thrown on a plate. Rolls were prepared a bit nicer but again everything tasted like buffet quality sushi. If you re looking for quality, don t come here. There are plenty of other places. If you re looking for affordable sushi, head to a buffet with sushi instead. At least you can get all you can eat with the same price.

Toyota is the kindest, gentlest most amazing place! And, I dare say the best sushi I've ever had and I've frequented many sushi bars in Seattle, Berkeley, San Francisco, Manhattan and a few in London and Chiang Mai. And the quality and good humor has never waivered. Sadly, I can no longer just drop in willy nilly like I used to (though it is always pretty busy so dropping in can mean a bit of a wait) since I moved across the water but I went back for my birthday every year until recently (not because I didn't want to) and even 13 years after I was still greeted by name and welcomed back into that familiar and wonderful neighborhood / family restaurant! Thank you Toyoda!

Our favorite place for sushi, me and my partner are totally addicted- we can't eat sushi anywhere else. We've been coming here at least once a week since we discovered this little gem. Fish is always extremely fresh in here, all the flavors and tastes are very naturally strong, yum! The atmosphere is very homey and cosy, we love all the family and staff. They serve miso soup and noodle salad as a compliment before your meal.

It only took one bite to become my new favorite sushi place. I'm vegan and we shared the seaweed salad, veggie roll, veggie tempura roll, avocado roll, miso soup, sake, and edamame. The seaweed salad was many times better than any other seaweed salad I've had, it was astonishing. All the food had an extremely fresh taste, which is even more important for sushi than other cuisines IMO. I will be coming back often, with all my friends.

When we walked in late Thursday evening the sushi chef warned us, "not much fish left!" However, we left the restaurant STUFFED. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed chatting with the chef. The fish was of excellent quality and fresh. We had a "small" sashimi plate. I say "small" because that's what the menu called it, but there were at least 9 offerings on the platter, and chef served at least 4 pieces of each offering, sometimes more. We were pleasantly surprised by how sweet and buttery the Uni was. Chef served us an AMAZING salmon roe that had been marinated in a sweet sake shoyu sauce. It was heavenly!
We were also served miso soup, a wonderful fried tofu, shrimp, egg, etc.

The staff was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself was tidy and though small, did not feel crowded at all.

We will definitely keep this restaurant on our list of top sushi destination ations.

This small little Japanese restaurant is packed with amazing flavors at a very affordable price. They have a good list of choices when it comes to types of sushi, and their rolls are reasonably sized for the price. They get very busy quickly, so be willing to wait if need be. They also do take out, so you can call in orders to pick up. Their staff is super friendly, and the hot sake is a must get. They greet every table with miso soup and noodles, so that you can start while you're ordering.

No other place like it. Pieces of fish so big you can't even see the rice underneath it. So fresh fish just melts in your mouth. The owner/sushi-master takes such pride in every sushi piece made. No other place comes close. When I want sushi, you'll find me here.

Best sushi i've had outside of Japan, and absolutely love the small restaurant itself, but now during Covid-times the takeout is a great alternative with easy order and pickup. Especially love the spider roll, philly tempura roll, agedashi tofu and spicy tuna maki.

Not sure what the hype is. Sushi could be better. Service truly left much to be desired. Waited 20 minutes for our check and then an additional 20 minutes for it to be brought back, while tables around me ate and left before I was served my food. We ordered 3 small plates and they were brought out 15 minutes apart.I expected much better and would recommend bringing your business elsewhere.

The sushi is so fresh and delicious! The service was quick. I love that it's family owned and staffed. I definitely recommend it!
I didn't try any of the non-sushi menu items, but I'm going to go back another time (and several more times after that haha!).

Still our favorite restaurant -- for sushi but in general as well ... cause the food and the selection and the service are all outstanding, every time. We especially love that's this place is all about family. We've been coming here since the early '90s, WOW. Happy birthday, Toyoda!

Not the best experience ....ordered to go and waited for more then 40min for my food, when families came in and got their food fast. Food was ok needs more flavor and they spilled all my sauce in the bag.

Best sushi in Seattle.

Yeah, it fills up quick. But if you're patient, you may get freebies - we sure did. Probably $20 worth of food.

Nice little place with friendly service. Chairs were a bit uncomfortable, clearly should have been replaced a decade ago.

Starters were a complimentary miso soup and salad. Miso was fine but the salad was 50% Mayo and tasted funky. But it's free so what are you going to do?

Ordered some rolls and nigiri. They were all great and fresh. Maybe a better experience for take out sushi.

Fresh fish but pretty average everything else. Agagashi tofu has good breading, but the sauce is below average for being too salty. It resembles a dipping sauce versus an essential component of this dish. At other restaurants the sauce is light and tasty enough that makes you want to drink the whole thing. Free miso and cold udon, so that's nice. But in general, average sushi rolls.

I ate the "small" chef's sushi plate. LOTS of tasty food (including appetizers and some fried tofu on the house) and a nice variety of fish. A bit too much wasabi on the sushi for my taste, but still delicious. The rolls on my friend's chef's plate wasn't as tasty as my rolls (he had the big chef's plate). On the downside, my boyfriend had to ask the staff for the same thing three times, and not all guests at the table's' dishes were served at the same time.

The food was excellent but the service was terrible. There were eight of us and we received our food all at different times and in different prices. Those of us who ordered combos got brought our meals in parts up to twenty minutes apart. It was forty minutes from when the first of the food arrived until the last of it came out. Also whenever we needed something we had to ask multiple times. The food was all very good and everyone enjoyed their meals. The other issue was the people waiting for tables or take out were crowding the tables near the door.

Came here on and off for the past 8 years and the quality has maintained about same - average. Probably as I graduated from just having a big portion for cheap, to the demand for quality and selections of fish and the firmness in rice. The number of sushi restaurants has explored in the past 10 years and competitions definitely has brought up the game to make Toyoda just another average sushi restaurant. There's alot you can already tell from the uploaded photos.

Better than I have ever had before! I've been to Japan, L.A., New York, Houston, and this family restaurant that focuses on gratitude, passion, and deliciousness bests all humbly. With a rich history and a dream they have served me sushi that leaves me breathless. Smooth, fresh, and flavorful. I will never forget the 6 dishes I've had here, every dish equally phenomenal in taste and simple is presentation.

We look forward to dining at Toyoda Sushi every time we go to Seattle. Worth the trip to North Seattle/Lake City. Convenient, huge parking lot behind. Excellent sushi and sashimi: very fresh, high-quality, generous portions and not expensive. Family owned with friendly and efficient service. The food is served when it's ready, so appetizers may arrive later. We usually share the sashimi dinner with 4 to 6 pieces of each: Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Scallops, Cod, Shrimp, Skipjack and Unagi. Always exceptional. Opens at 5pm so go early because there is usually a wait.

My family have been coming to Toyota's since we moved here nearly we years ago....I have been fortunate in having sushi in many places...still, being able to walk here, knowing the owners, and having such a rich variety of very fresh well prepared food is the best. We support local businesses and so appreciate this gem...here's to the next 25!!!

Hands down one of the best sushi places I've ever been in, in my life. This place changed my mind about scallops. This place had the best uni I've ever had.

I ordered the sashimi sampler. It was plenty for 3 people. I actually enjoyed they're warm sake. They are very generous in portions but the quality is absolutely impeccable. I always have the best the ever going here. It does help that I go with people that are there once a week, but if that doesn't speak to it's awesomeness, I don't know what would.

I highly recommend going to the bar. It's really entertaining watching these brilliant chefs and artist at work.

I can't wait to go again. This place does get packed though, especially after 7 and on weekends, just FYI.
