Love this place. Great price for the quality of sushi. Also it sounds awful, but their fried ice cream dessert is really good.

Amazing food, excellent service! Couldn't have asked for a better experience! The takoyaki was the shining star of the meal!
Toyoda is a small, authentic Japanese restaurant that sells excellent and expensive sushi. My group of five waited for 20 minutes on a Sunday evening. I liked the complimentary miso soup, noodle salad, and hot green tea. The service was pretty good throughout our meal. My group ordered Sushi Regular Assortment, Mixed Poki Salad, and Spicy Tuna Bowl, all of which were fresh and tasty.
The portions were good, but over-priced. For example, I got nine pieces of Nigiri and 6 roll pieces for $28.
If money isn't an issue for you, I'd recommend Toyoda's for a great all-around Japanese food experience. But if you want more value out of your dollar, I definitely recommend Musashi's -- same or better quality, and more sushi for less money
My favorite sushi place. The owner is super nice. He also cares about quality. Great experience every time I come here.
What is with the good reviews? This place is an insult to real sushi restaurants. Fake crab and mayonnaise covered noodles? That should of been a sign to get my check and cut my losses. After asking for our drinks numerous times, out comes the "sushi." They put wasabi between the rice and the fish...like they were hiding something. They were...cat food grade sushi. They worst thing is, they charge a premium price for this junk, and the service and the food didn't reflect the price at all.
Delicious sushi and fast friendly service. Complimentary miss soup and a salad greet you when you are seated. Their sushi was fresh and they have many options to please everyone. Caterpillar roll was my favorite.
Inside is small but cozy, a nice retreat from the busy street. They have tables and a sushi bar. I went on a Thursday and it was not too busy.
This place is highly recommended if you are looking for great atmosphere and quality fish. Traditional sushi is their mastery, but they have great options for American style sushi rolls and some Japanese dinner staples. Their "Sushi Regular Assortment" (omakase) is always excellent and priced competitively.
Place was full when I arrived so I sat down on the waiting chairs. Everyone that came after me was seated before me. I found out later that I needed to write my name on the list to be seated. 45Min wasted. Finally a seat at the bar. Another 15 before the waitress knew to serve me. Very poor service. Soup was normal, but the noodle salad was excellent (the only positive experience). The chairs at the bar were very uncomfortable and hurt the back of my legs. I ordered 2 maki rolls. The first came, very average I thought. I was told my other one was coming. 45Min after finishing the first one, I flagged down my waitress, and she realized that I didn't get my second "house special" roll. She told the chef who gave me a dirty look, and started on it. 20Min later it arrived. This was a little spicy for me, but interesting and above average. The couple next to me sat for almost an hour after their meal waiting for the bill. Food experience was average at best, but the service was very sub par. The head chef was very kind and contrite and tried to connect in some way with each customer, but the servers were very poor and inattentive.
I will not return or recommend this place to anyone.
The owner Helen is wonderful and the food is the best!!!
Very friendly, amazing food and the best tempora ice cream!
The best sushi in all of Seattle. Do yourself a favor and sit at the bar!
Very authentic sushi experience. The service is amazing and the fish is fresh and delicious. Ask for the poke and you won't be disappointed.
I've been eating sushi made by Toyoda since I was literally a toddler. There is no better place to get sushi in Seattle.
Strip mall "Chinese Restaurant" serving thawed frozen fish.
Very good food. We highly recommend the deep fried ice cream but it's huge so watch out. It's always busy but they turn people over very quickly so don't let that diisuade you from the best sushi in Seattle
Great sushi. Felt a little heavy on the wasabi though.
Stellar sushi and great service! Make sure to get here early though as it can get crowded. Their tuna is amazing.
Love the food, service was excellent, very friendly people. The salmon skin hand roll was awesome and so was the unagi. Definitely reccomend. Would give 6 stars if I could
Great food. Friendly service. Food came out fast on a packed Friday night.
Great long-standing joint sushi done right!!!
It gets busy from the time they open..
We had been meaning to come here for quite a long time but we just had the darnest hard time to match with their schedule. They only open for 3 hours a day, plus they close every Monday and Tuesday too and then they have a tendency to close the restaurant for 2 weeks at a time. Case in point a little while ago, we were looking for a light but filling dinner and decided to try our luck here; we saw on google and yelp that they closed at 8:30. We arrived at about 8:10pm, tried to see if they would still take us as late customers. I know it was cutting it really close but Helen still made us feel welcomed and seated us promptly. And toward the end of our meal we asked and discovered that they actually closed at 8pm not 8:30pm - meaning when we entered it was already 10 minutes past their closing time, but they still took us in because it was their last night before a 10-day break.
To be honest, when I stepped in the restaurant I secretly was surprised to see that inside the restaurant looks pretty rundown and decorated with old wicker chairs and tables that need to be replaced. In spite all these, the place was still packed. 90% of the tables were still occupied and the sushi bar was full. Reading from the reviews here, it seems that for the 3 hours they open their door to business everyday, they are always consistently super packed and the service could be quite poor with the long wait. Most of the customers that night were regulars.
The busser promptly brought us our water and warm green tea. The green tea tasted authentic. Complimentary homemade miso soup and cold noodle salad were also brought to our table. The cold noodle salad tasted a bit weird but bland for my preference so I put a dash of soy sauce in mine lol. Husband didn't like the cold noodle salad and didn't eat his. We ordered Negi-Toro roll (diced Fatty Tuna) which were very fresh. then the Unagi Maki (eel) and Spicy Scallop Maki (scallops and ebikko with avocado, cucumber, green onion in spicy mayo). I'm a fussypants about unagi and their Unagi Maki is truly juicy and delicious. The Spicy Scallop maki was also super fresh! Plus I believe the sushi came with REAL wasabi, oh yeah! We got the Jimmy's Special sushi too which is an Inari Tofu pouches with spicy tuna and rice inside then fried. Husband really really liked the Chef's Jimmy Special.
I do agree with the other reviewers here that since the chefs are trying to keep up with the orders coming in, their rolls tend to be sloppy. The seaweed of the rolls was also pressed against one and other, became sticky and would unroll the sushi when we tried to pick it up with our chopsticks. And glancing at their menu, most of the items tend to be on the higher side of price. Combination dinner menu items are like $22 and up, as well as their specialties sushi. So we did end up ordering the lower-priced items and our total came about $43 and we were very full (but we weren't that hungry to begin with). He seemed to enjoy his time here and did mention that he wanted to come back again.
Truly delicious sushi. Small, homey restaurant. Over the past couple of years, several times I've found the restaurant unexpectedly closed. Many other restaurants in the area, but if you're traveling from afar and want only really good sushi, you might wish to call first to confirm that they're open.
Great handmade gyoza I highly recommend. Unagi is also really good too, oh and FYI the spicy tuna bowl is literally a huge lump of spicy tuna get some rice if you order that
The best sushi for real sushi lovers. The sashimi dinner is unlike anything else. A huge amount of sushi for a decent price. The service has always been terrible. I just expect it! It's a family run business who knows sushi, not service. But, it's become apart of its charm.
My favorite sushi joint.
good sushi but lousy service - very long wait for everything
Try ordering a lot of different side dishes to experience the wide and wonderful variety available here.
I love the Kara'age chicken, Prawn Tempura, Black Cod Kazuzuke, Miso soup, Croquettes, California rolls, Edamame, Teriyaki Chicken, Gyoza and Unagi Zushi.
My wife loves the Saba Shioyaki (broiled mackerel) and Black Cod Kazuzuke, Miso soup, Kappa Maki and Avocado Maki. The broiled Salmon Skin Hosomaki is also good.
My daughter's favorites are the Agedashi Tofu, Gyoza, Edamame and California rolls.
My son loves the cold noodles salad, Gyoza, Tempura, California rolls, Edamame, Avocado and Cucumber rolls and the Teriyaki Chicken.
It's all great, so give it a try. They can have a waiting list for seating between 7 and 8pm, particularly on Friday or Saturday nights so go earlier to avoid standing around.
My neighborhood sushi place. Owners are amazing and the fish is so well prepared. Their miso is better than most. I do always have to get the smaller size of everything because their portions are huge.
It's a very small spot and they do a good job getting people squeezed in. I usually park behind the Elliot Bay and go between the buildings.
Amazing quality as always. Superb service. Loved the noodle salad. Eel roll-fighting gently for last bite. Tempura light and crisp not greasy. Place was packed and we agee, worth the drive fom everett
I've been a patron of this establishment since my teens. The vibe is exactly the same...fun, lively, very friendly, and we always finish our meal very satisfied. The half order of sashimi is usually enough for my partner and I, plus one or two extra if we are famished. We do tend to prefer sitting at the bar and interact with the head and sous chefs.
