I go every Sunday during the summer and it s always on point. Show up before noon to get a good spot, and bring a picnic. Alcohol is allowed but no smoking. There are actual bathrooms and food trucks. Parking is usually a challenge, so again get there early, or take public transit
A lack of rest rooms. Otherwise good place for peace and quiet in city scrawl.
They throw great free summer concerts annually! You have to get there early though and wear your walking shoes, it's a walk to the stage!
Beautiful park, with functional old school grills. Please don't litter folks.
Sunday, 8/18 was last day of free summer concert series with Isley Brothers, dancers and band. Great show/venue, clean indoor bathroom. SF mayor, made an appearance. Thank you
The atmosphere is amazing, the friendly and helpful staff and volunteers, all concerts and shows had a magical feel to it.
Seems you can drink during the free performances. That's nice. Also free performances. That's nice. Staff was friendly. Plenty of space to setup. A pleasant weekend outing for family and friends. Free performances. Bring your friends and family for your weekend outings.
Still the best free shows in the city every summer. Great walk anytime of year too.
Serene spot. Greenery. Eucalyptus trees. Not far from the beach.
Perfect day and perfect crowd. Friendly families and friendly workers. Suggestion we needed a fan with the H2O spray. Folks need to be reminded to take a break out of the burning Sun.
Next Sunday is the last free concert. Isley Brothers. Get there early. Pink Martini was fantastic. And it's such a great place to spend time with old and new friends. Especially on a warm and sunny day.
Free concerts in beautifully a landscaped ravine by the famed landscape architect Larence Halprin. A gift to the city of San Francisco by the Stern family and a priceless cultural gem that you should definitely experience. Would class performances by the SF Symphony, Ballet and Opera as well as many Pop groups. Not to be missed. Bring a picnic and get culture,!
Crowded and we had to sit way up on the hill but good music and vibes all around, Stern Grove Music Fest is cool
Arrive early for Stern Grove Festival for good seating spots. Good selection of artist and family friendly
Came for one of the Stern Grove concerts during the summer. We had to sit on the hill, wish we could have been on the grassy area.
The summer concerts are fabulous, and even better if we get sunshine. They are free, at the very generous behest and very generous funding of the Goldman family.
Great park for all locals of all ages, dogs, bikers, kids. This is a true San Francisco jewel every day of the week.
Isley Brothers for free in a beautiful park with amazing trees and foliage. And you can bring your own food and drinks, including booze. What's not to love!?
Love the summer outdoor concerts! Be sure to go early though to claim a seat
It's changed a lot since I was a child, the lake used to be fed by a spring and run off from the sprinklers when they watered the lawn. Picnic area great for barbecues, open space for multiple uses Sigmon's house isn't the same, probably because of vandalism, the stage is still there for weekend performances with fresh air, limited seats and plenty of grass to sit and have a picnic lunch.
Beautiful hidden park with great spaces for picnics. Just bring a jacket as it is in it's own mini valley and can be cold even on warm days.
If you've never been to this park, go now! This is a great inset valley in the middle of San Francisco's sunset district and it's an amazing place full of trees as the name suggests. They host free concerts in the summer here, so that's a great opportunity to go and check it out! I am not affiliated with the SF Parks and Recreation Department, I simply am that impressed with this park.
Too many dog walkers and they don't keep an eye on them or pick up their poop. Very disappointing. It used to be my favorite
Great holiday events we go every year through out the year .thank you.
This is a fun San Francisco experience- I've only gone a few times, but have always bumped into people I know. The featival is a fun place to picnic (wine is okay) with friends and see a show. Two caveats: 1) prime picnic spots will likely be gone by 11am, so plan accordingly if you care, or pay for reserved table space, and 2) this is an outdoor festival in San Francisco in the summertime, so the weather could be hot, cold, windy, foggy, or all of the above. Bringing layers is recommended...
City park for a green oasis within the urban streets
You are going to enjoy good music surrounded by trees! It's a pretty place and the quality of the artists is really good. The festival is also well organized.
Great place for walks, must love dogs as one end has open dog run area for off leash. Usually quiet place not a lot of people unless there is a concert or event there.
Wonderful park, picnic and free shows during the summer months. Famous guest stars come every summer. Excellent dog park too.
One of the best parks in the city. Great for dogs and people.
The Best Free Concerts in the Summer. The Grove is awesome, a forest amphitheater.
Wonderful. I was there for a concert by Jeffrey Osborne and Peabo Bryson. There is a lot of shade for a hot day, if you want it. But the best part, all the concerts are free.
Great place for concerts. Picnics are recommended as is arriving early for a good spot. Bring clothes as the temperature will be cool in the trees.
Love it here. Lots of great trees and space to walk around.
Free concerts in the summer but if you're there by 7am you will be thick in the woods.
Gorgeous park that features live concerts with popular bands in the spring and summer.
Summer concert series is the best! Beautiful skyscraper tree Grove in the city.
This was such a fun thing to do on a Saturday night! Me and my friend were looking for something to do and wanted to do something different. This was perfect! The atmosphere was great with plenty of places to eat! They have this ritual of popping confetti everywhere and it makes for a great photo op! If you are looking for something to do on a sat this is it! I believe it is only every first sat of the month though.
Came here for the sf chihuahua meetup in the dog park. Parking isnt the best, so if you can park on the street and walk down. Its a little bit of a hike, but the beautiful scenery makes it worth it!
Almost a set from a movie, one of my favorite places to see a concert
Came for Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, who were every bit as good as the last few times I've seen them. Awesome music and band energy (although the crowd was quite subdued and most wouldn't even stand up). The next band was pretty good and as well (M Ward, I think the name was). Plenty of porta-johns, but only if you go west. The main entrance area only has one men's stall and a few women's. Too much security to feel 100% comfortable. Didn't even feel comfortable smoking unless I left the concert area. I'm more than happy to donate (and did), but harassing me every time I go back in to ask if I donated is rude. If you want to charge $10 don't call it a free show.
Still - well worth it IF you really want to see a certain artist. Just expect to wait 4 hours (10 am for a 2 pm show in a good spot), and don't expect many other fans. Seems most ppl (even the early birds) just wanted to hang out, sitting on their asses, with live music in the background. Gorgeous little spot though.
This is a great environment to enjoy the summer concerts that are organized there. Bring your chairs, blankets, and other comforts to help you enjoy the outdoors and the music. Most of the spots designated for patrons are or can be made comfortable with the right equipment. The Grove provides the perfect area to keep the music contained and there doesn't seem to be a bad spot for doing enjoying the entertainment.
Free concerts. Don't forget to bring your food and blankets for picnic.
Outstanding music, lovely crowd. Even the weather cooperated today.
I have been to many wonderful concerts here, and the place just keeps improving. Even when there's no music, it's pleasant to bike or hike through or picnic in the Grove. OK< not in a cold winter rain. It's possible to burn a lot of gasoline while searching for that non-existent parking spot on concert Sundays, but I much prefer to take advantage of the bike valet or the 4-5 Muni lines that stop nearby.
Fun, relatively quiet, some paths unpaved. A good walk. Good calestenic area.
MITSKI WAS THERE SO OF COURSE IT WAS AND WILL BE AN AMAZING FESTIVAL FOR THE REST OF TIME. blessed
It was a very fun place, there is all types of events held there, and I've been there several time. It good for kids to just be in the outdoors, in ly opinion there isn't a whole lot to do there but you can still make it a fun time
Oh the outdoor is so nice, and it's away from the roads and traffic. The only problem is the men's bathroom is only single occupancy, compare to female. First time in my time I saw a line of grown men trying to use bathroom.
We flew in from ohio for the pink Martini concert. Climbed up a slippery hill and just enjoyed being around friendly people. We have seen the ballet, the Symphony and became big fans of Pete Esposito and his daughter Sheila. Free. Enjoyable. Bring wine and cheese. I love this city. Stern grove is the best.
Lots of people smoking both cigarettes and Joints. What makes it bad children were around and they did nothing to stop it. We shall see what happens next week
One of the most beautiful outdoor stages in San Francisco they have free concerts on Sundays all Summer Long and we're not talkin slacker bands here either they have big names
I catch a few shows here each summer you have to get there early if you want to get a blanket down in the grass like before 10 a.m. and the music starts around 2 everybody's sips wine and eats cheese while we sit around and wait for the music great way to meet your neighbors and spend a Sunday afternoon
This is one of my favorite parks in the city and the programs are always amazing.
A sensual and humbling experience for the very fortunate attendees. Lovely place on earth.
Another beautiful park tucked away in the busy city. This is a great place for a stroll or to play with your dog. There is a lovely pond to sit by and watch the ducks.
The concert series in the summer is a great way to spend a sunday
