Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra was amazing! Great time at Grand Performances!
A great gift to Los Angeles- diversity in performing arts in all ways....culture, ethnic, language. But always wonderful!!
Lots a food places great place for a small concert too
Summertime seems to be the perfect time for any type of outdoor activity, and really, who doesn't like live music- regardless of who is playing.
While parking is certainly not cheap, admission into the Grand Performances stage/ viewing areas is free. There's plenty of room for everyone, though I suggest getting there at least half an hour to an hour early to snag yourself a good spot near the stage or on one of the terraces overlooking the courtyard. The acoustics are great, so sound quality is never a problem- it's 360 degrees of superb audio.
Another cool thing about this place is that it not only has some pretty neat restaurants right near the courtyard where you can grab anything from a Starbucks Frapp, to a grilled cheese sandwich, Subway, or even some snacks & surprisingly high-quality prepared foods to-go at the Famima convenience store they have on site.
The bands & performers vary from week to week, and you can always go to their page to check out the lineup; who knows, one of your favorites may be playing one of these weekends, and you get to see them live, practically for free- minus parking. And who doesn't love being out and about on a cool Summer's night, in the big city, being surrounded by bright lights, tall skyscrapers, good food & company, and great music?
Couldn't be more boring. Enjoyed every other time that I've been. Went because KCET gave me VIP tickets. Horrible!
Because they make good events, for the family in summer and you can enjoy with the family.
This is the place I go to 8n the evening when I feel sad mad or down. You know that place you go to and makes you feel calm. Well this is my place. Give it a evening walk by yourself or with that someone that makes you life better
Beautiful venue to enjoy an outdoor concert in the summer time.
Great lighting, great sound system, beautiful dancing fountains behind the stage.
I've been entertained by this venue for 11 yrs now. Fun for adults and kids alike. Good job guys.
PRO TRAILER : DELIVERED THE FUNKSHIP JULY 7 7PM - FS1 MISSION HOPE LOVE PEACE FOR PATRICIA & BOOTSY COLLINS CHILDREN FOUNDATION.
Great place to come during the Summer for free outdoor concerts.
I've been to a few of these concerts so far and always had a good time. You get the amazing city views and the fountain near the stage is beautiful!
You can bring a picnic, blankets for the night time, and wine to enjoy.
Be sure to arrive early as space tends to fill up quick. You can always find a spot somewhere on the top floor.
Parking: There's a small lot of 2nd & Hill St. for $10 flat rate. Or you can take the metro!
Nice area for seating outside. Very accommodating! Friendly people. Only reason I gave 4stars is because it was so dusty on the floor (I guess due to water shortage) that by the time my baby finished crawling he looked like he visited combat zone.
Enjoyed a Great live performance. Intimate environment in an urban setting
Nice setting for music. A real gift to the community of Los Angeles.
This is where I come to celebrate humanity. One of the best summer presenters in the country. If you've never been, check the calendar and discover some new music, or see some mind-blowing dance, all for free. Come dance with me at the water!
Came here a few times in the past couple of years. It's always fun time and best things are.. it's free, you can drink and have fun with friends
What an awesome event, a tasting of a few bites from LocalTable and the official drink of Los Angeles made by GreenBar. Yes, the official drink of LA according to votes made in the Los Angeles magazine in part by KCRW. The announcement was made for everyone to try this new drink. Just like the drink called "The Manhattan" associates it to New York, the new drink called "The Griffith" for Los Angeles. I cannot make this stuff up, it really did happen. The drink was really refreshing and enjoying small shots of the other flavors by GreenBar, I remember the Ginger liquor which tasted like simple syrup infused with ginger and alcohol added to it. Back to the Griffith, it was green so very fitting for the GreenBar to make a cucumber lemon drink with basil
Double G's daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra is the band we are listening to and it was really awesome. Playing tracks from A Tribe Called Quest and special guest rappers really cranking out the lyrics. This is how music is supposed to be listened to with a full orchestra and not on the radio.
Family friendly, super fun way to spend your summer weekend nights
Seeing shows here is fun but always PACKED. Come early, bring a blanket.
I'm so spoiled to have this free event series in my neighborhood! Such diversity in genres/culture and a lot of visitors. Come early if you want to sit. Love how they make an effort to bring LA together and to offer truly unique live acts. It's also fun to experience different bands, one might have otherwise not purchased tickets for, as it's free.
I loved this!!!! I was pleasantly surprised when arriving. I didn't expect to see the layout that they had and it worked great. It was easy to move through the crowd and get to different view points. Only issue was parking but we're in LA what should we expect right. I'll definitely attend again.
The shows that Grand Performances presents are varied, but always a good time. Its proximity to great eateries is a plus. Come Solo or in groups.
Great time, I think they may have changed there policy on Bringing your own Cooler tho. Gotta do some checking up on that.
One of the great public programs in Los Angeles in a wonderful public space.
Awesome concerts under the stars and lights of DTLA.
Nighttime, it seemed they ran the fountain in the background, in sync with the performance . Cool
This place is has great views i shoot pictures here mostly at night. The only down side is that security kinda likes to follow people around to see what theyre up to since its a banks district of down town LA i guess i can see why. But still kind of bugs. Regardless dont that discourage you, and dont take my word for it. The place is kool. Check it out for yourself
Must get there early for a good spot. Calls for a terrific evening depending on the performers. Wonderful for family and friends. Parking is about $10
A great series. I've been going for most of my life. A wonderful party of summer downtown! Tip: Take Metro Red Line to Pershing Square, exit at 4th Street (left side) and take Angel's Flight up to California Plaza ($0.50 with Metro TAP).
Great downtown space to experience the arts for FREE! You can bring your own picnic, chair or blanket. This space is outside in a water court, that has concrete seating as well as patio table & chair seating. This is a family oriented venue, where you'll meet wonderful people and possibly make some new friends. their lineups introduce & feature cultural arts of all types from everywhere in the world. Everyone should support this amazing summer program that's been around for over 20 years. Who knows, I might be one of the people you meet at one of the events, come down and enjoy.
This is one of the finest performance location in Los Angeles.
Not only the selection of performances is amazing, huge variety and always great / top quality musicians/dancers/singers...
Every time we come to Grand Performances we ask ourselves why we do not come more often...
Parking is not difficult, but it might be slow to get in and to get out depending on the day.
Beautiful outdoor concert space with inventive uses of water.
Great shows. Wide variety of artists--music, performance art, etc. Top notch staff who make sure everyone feels welcome. And the shows are free!
Romantic ambience in the middle of the city love summer concerts
This event has diminished. Although free, the sound was terrible this time!
Performances are free and you can take food and enjoy them.
Nothing like good food, good music, good people....good night!
Nice plaza. Has free concerts often. Outdoor. Restaurant and coffee shops too :)
Great atmosphere to see free entertainment under the stars.
Free events and of a very good level, the technicians and equipment of the place are excellent in dealing with the artists and in their work areas, I did not know the place before presenting at it, but if you are vacationing nearby, check its list of events They have some that will surprise you.
Great venue, and also the backstage hands were fantastic.
It's a wonderful place magical and awesome I'm love it
What a wonderful evening I had free concert. No issues. ..grown folks being grown
Incredible feeling. Great acoustics and the best free performances im the area.
Don't trust the address, always check the address for the concert location. We thought Grand Performances were in Grand Park!
Anyways, these are those performances that remind you why you love LA. It's cool locals and impressive visitors. The donors sit in the front, but the crowd around the entire stage is huge! Smells of prosciutto and weed. Sounds of chip bags and art commentary. I truly love these events and wish I had started going sooner!
Great place to take you family enjoy great music and learn
Grand Performances is always a magnificently eclectic aural and visual experience. Beautiful people, music and energy!
Grand Performances are the best. My family and I love them so much. We always have a blast.
Love their performances. They have a variety of shows and performers. Their selections always present. Free shows for the promotion of art appreciation to the public.
Great city resource. Fun and free concerts in the summer.
One of my all-time favorite places to go in Los Angeles.
Super great location to sit outside in DTLA and watch live music both during lunch and in the evenings. With restaurants close by, it's easy to grab some food, sit back and enjoy the show! The acoustics and line-ups are surprisingly good, and the ambience is quite nice! There are no real covered areas here, all seating is exposed (which can be hot during lunch - although have partial coverage). Seating is moveable, and for shows the hosting tenant will move seating and at times reserve seating.
FANTASTIC place to see the free shows in the summer time. I've always found new and exciting things here.
It's an event that they do every summer. In order to promote the arts and culture, in the Angelina community and it is free, voluntary donations are requested and are usually made on weekends.
I love this spot, specifically during the summer when they have free events. Place is very family friendly during the day and extremely romantic at night. Everytime is someone new performing.
I always have good time here, and I have a few tips:get here early because it get crowded, bring a blanket it gets cold at night, most shows star at eight o'clock at night I usually get here two hours before the show starts to get a good spot and to find parking you can bring food and drink including beer and wine it is allowed the show if free enjoy.
A beautiful environment, bands I would never have and opportunity to see otherwise. Thank you for expanding my interests and making all this accessible.
Awesome event, first time over the weekend, unfortunately it's about to end the summer already. Need to mark calendar for next year. Took one star off, sat upstairs concrete benches but people were just talking normal tone to be very annoying and disrepectful to other patrons listening to this great music offered to us for free. We moved to another bench and people there were watching videos on their phone and talking as well. This needs to be better controlled by the staff.
I went for the music which featured a number of artists that I had heard on kpfk a few days earlier. Grand was closed to vehicle traffic and the stage was in the middle of the street. The regular location of Grand Performances is under renovation.
Nothing bad should be said about Grand Performances because it's perfect. Every summer they offer FREE, I repeat, FREE, quality live music performances in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles.
We're talking awesome, well known artists who swing by DTLA to give the gift of their amazing talent. I've attended so many Grand Performances events and have enjoyed almost all of them.
It gets crowded so make sure to arrive super early to guarantee a good view/spot and just have a picnic lunch/dinner with you and your friends before the show starts.
This place is relaxing, good to have a chill day there and just sit and talk. Um there's restaurants on the first floor so u can enjoy the out side and have something to eat. I don't know if it's pricey but I doubt it but it's a nice place.
