It was great to get out today! We really enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. My husband ordered the fish sandwich and German potato salad, and I had a bratwurst sandwich and fries. It was absolutely delicious! Kasjah was extremely pleasant, efficient, and just a joy to have as our waitress. Thank you also for being open!

Delicious food and a great beer selection. Large portion sizes so come hungry! Nice view of the Pittsburgh skyline. The environment is relaxed and causal; an interesting mix of German beer hall and Pittsburgh Yinzer style to the menu and decor. There is a bar and restaurant. Televisions to watch local sports. They also offer tours of the brewery itself. Great location by the highway. All around highly recommend!

Penn Brewery has the best atmosphere for a quick beer or cocktail on the Northside. Great menu options extend beyond German cuisine amd really round this Brewery out as the best in the city. A must visit for lunch, dinner or a few beer. DJ our bartender was most helpful and pleasant. must see if visiting the burgh.

All-in-all a great experience! Food was great and the atmosphere wonderful! Good selection of beer, and we both took some home. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience! The only reason for four stars was the service. Our server was friendly and helpful when we could get her attention. For the record, it wasn't even a little bit busy at 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. Extremely inattentive service, but otherwise a stellar experience!

The beer was tasty. Had the Oktoberfest and the Dunkel. The pretzel trio with the house cheese was delicious. Place has a festive German feel. Customer service was courteous, but I could tell they were ready to go home given the slow night. A little outside of downtown, the area around the brew pub feels a little sketchy for an out of towner. However, i felt safe and I'd still go back. I would recommend this place to anyone given the decent beer on draft and decent food on the menu.

It can be a little crowded at times, but it's worth the wait. The beer and food is amazing and very traditional German. The hefeweizen (unfiltered wheat beer) is one of the best I ve had in the United States. The bartenders are fun and the brew master is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. If you re in the Pittsburgh area, this is a must go to!

My boyfriend and I were in town for some job interviews and stopped here for dinner. We had a great experience - very good German style beers, really tasty German food and fried pickles, and a very cool beer - hall dining room with an interesting atmosphere. Our food was reasonable and delicious and the waiter was great. I'd really recommend it for a relaxed and delicious dinner out.

Since I can't find a spot to leave a review for the location at the airport I'm going to leave it here. I have now tried the new location twice. The 1st time I sat down and after no one stopping by in 10 minutes I decided to get up and leave. I figured I would give them a 2nd chance today. I sat down and was waited on right away and placed my order. After 30 minutes and still no food, I began asking if it was comming soon since I had a flight to catch. After waiting another 10 minutes and having to ask again I was told it would be another 8 minutes. It was at this point I asked for the check to pay for my soda. Some might think I should have given more time, but I travel quite frequently and no restaurants in an airport take 30 minutes to get food out. They all know that most patrons have a timetable and have to go. My flight was scheduled to depart at 1245pm and I sat down at 1128am. That should have been more than long enough. I wish I could comment on the food, but after 2 attempts I still haven't eaten any of the food.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Great food. Great beer. Great service. The beer was $35 a case. $19 for a 12 pack. The parking was not the best, but we got lucky. We enjoyed checking out the brewing machinery.

Started off a recent bachelor party with a private tour here. The Brew Master gave us the tour of the whole place. Let me just say that this dude lives for beer. Not in a frat boy way either. He loves everything about it. He can tell what kind of hops were put in and where they came from just buy smelling it. He had more knowledge about beer in Pittsburgh and how it came to be than I even know possible. I never had any of their beer until that day. I did myself a disservice for a long time. I tried several different kinds and they were all amazing. I would highly recommend everyone go there and take the tour, try some brew and grab a bite to eat.

Could go to a ONE star pending the taste and quality of the pierogis I just ordered for breakfast! As I was looking at the breakfast menu, the bartender, who was obviously annoyed having to fill in for a late server (?) flipped my menu over and said "it's lunch now", even tho it says breakfast served until 11?? It's 1030? Delayed at the airport thinking I'd pop in for nice experience. Not. Zero hospitality skills, loud and clearly not happy working here, didn't even apologize or explain why no breakfast. TGIFs come back! I will wait to post this AFTER my food comes!

This place is a must see if you are visiting Pittsburgh. I would say that it is one of Pittsburgh's destinations on the list. Great place, the food here is awesome and of course the brew is always flowing around this place. Not your average bar/grill.

Fantastic German Food, great atmosphere, and wonderful service! Selena was very knowledgeable with the beers and helped us make our selection. We had their potato pancakes, apple onion soup, and butchers board. We will definitely be back next time we are in Pittsburgh

It's a shame I only discovered this place when my friend picked it for his birthday celebration. Now absolutely one of my favorite places in this city. The German food and beer is hands down way better than Hofbrauhaus, and the burgers are among my favorites too! Only complaint is the parking situation.

This microbrewery had an amazing concept. The building used to be the former Eberhardt and Ober Brewery (founded in 1848). You walk in and you can see so much history. We walked in by mistake to the alley and it looked like a Spanish bodega. The ambiance was so relaxed. Food is amazing....German inspired comfort food and German style beers. We had two beers. Of the two, one that stood out was the Penn Weizen. It s a wheat beer with yeast that produces a unique flavor of banana and cloves with a dry and tart edge, some spiciness, and notes of apples....a little hoppy bitterness, and a moderate level of alcohol. It was amazing. The Penn IPA was right there with hop-forward flavor notes. Overall, I would come back here whenever I m in Pittsburgh.

Beer was decent. Service was absolutely terrible. It all started with a disgruntled hostess seating us and we heard her say that she was going to quit. Three people seemedto be assigned to our table and nobody really knew who had what table.
Our food took an extraordinarily long time to come out and it was par at best. Very disappointed .

UPDATED:

Audree the manager reached out to me and was very professional in her approach. Satisfied with the resolution. Will give Penn Brewery another chance.

They are working on a limited menu and don't have a lot of the items these 2 very little in terms of kids meals or dessert. The seating options are fine and it's not busy there all the table there more than 6' of hard and the restroom smelled heavily of bleach and are clean. The staff doesn't check on you much though and doesn't seem to be enjoying the masts but I don't blame them. Staff is just rather elusive.

Wow, worse ever for service in the 'burgh, walked down steps to outside seating area, had to wipe our own table, get our own menus, and after 40 minutes of waiting, our presence was never acknowledged regardless of how many times we tried making eye contact, we tried to even call their phone from our table, as slow answering phone as they are with waiting on the outside tables. Wanted to try their beer fest, but be quicker going to the real one in Europe, good luck if you ever visit Penn Brewery.

Last night was my first time at the Brewery. My date and I went there for my birthday dinner becasue I love German food. The service was great and musically the band was good. We barely finished our pretzels and our dinner was served. However... the food and the noise levels were horrible. I had to yell across the table to talk to my date and finally gave up trying to have a conversation. I couldn't even hear the waitress. There's no reason the band had to be that loud especially on a wednesday night. I was not happy with the Polish Hill dish. The sauerkraut wasn't good, the perogies were tasteless and the kielbasa was okay. Overall I feel cheated for a birthday dinner and it was not worth the price of the plate. Never going back.

Great food, drink selection, service, and atmosphere. Oktoberfest is something you can't miss at this place. Their in house brews are phenomenal and their German/Polish food selection is great, especially the different Kielbasa, German potato salad, pierogis, and more. If I had to suggest one place for someone to go in Pittsburgh, Penn Brewery would be it.

The beer and atmosphere are both great! A total win!

BUT the food.... Ooof!
We ordered 2 appetizers: The hot soft pretzels and the Poutine. No complaints on the soft pretzels They were as expected. Of the 3 provided sauces 2 were good but the 3rd was a thicker cheese that had an odd potted meat and Curry taste. Neither of us liked it. Curry is an odd choice for a German restaurant.
The Poutine was good - it was served in a large bowl with side plates. Sounds fine until you ponder how to get the cheesy, mushroom and gravy-laden (and slightly soft) fries out of the bowl and onto your side plate while respecting your fellow table-mates.
Maybe a family or dating couple would just pick through them with their fingers or use their forks but it s rude to serve yourself with your already used fork. No serving spoon was supplied.

We requested a spoon and were given an oversized catering service spoon (think cafeteria lady with mashed potatoes) because it was THE ONLY option in the building! Seriously, how are they serving people shared dishes without providing serving spoons?!?
The server was a bit bewildered at our request for a serving spoon and suggested using our forks!
One guest was sick and didn t want to make the others sick as well. This shouldn t have to be said but it had to be said.
Armed with the 18 lunch lady spoon we enjoyed the dish.

Moving on the side we chose for our Giant fish sandwich was the German Potato Salad. A hot version of potato salad that should be served with boiled, sliced potatoes in a hot bacon and vinegar sauce.
If you like German Potato Salad steer clear of this stuff.
These were fried and reheated small cubes that were at-one-time crispy but now had become chewy and were coated Marzetti s salad dressing (!!!) with some kind of hot non-German spice. It was honestly disgusting. Ruined fried potatoes in Marzetti s Italian salad dressing. No, just -no.

The server was fun but seemed less than knowledgeable service.

Go for the beer and atmosphere but leave to eat.

Could have been better, the beer was great, the food was good but not German authentic so it could have been better and the service was not the best. Service goes a long way I would have given them 4 stars if it was there.

Highly recommend this! Easily some of the best beers I've ever had, it's no wonder they have so many awards! I wish I could buy it locally where I'm from, but since I can't I'll be back. The dark and gold were my favorites, And the Buckaroo I believe. Surprised I liked a fruit beer, congrats to the Brewer who made it!!
