This resort is not a 5 star. It's rating should be a 3 at best. The staff are not attentive or professional. The beds are not luxurious, the level of cleanliness needs improving. The location is amazing, the hotel is not.

We were there during the strike, other than a couple inconveniences because of that we still had a blast! This is our new yearly vacation destination! We recommend Royal Hawaiian, for any celebration!

In 1937, the photography company Kodak produced and financed a traditional Hula dance show at The Royal Hawaiian. Fritz Herman, vice-president and manager of Kodak in Hawaii, founded a performance venue that entertained tourists for over 65 years. Hula was incorporated into the native culture, though, the way in which it was constructed here, it barely resembled the traditional dance. Specially designed sets allowed for optimal light and the dancers performed slowly, pausing each of their movements so that the audience would have time to capture the perfect shot with their Kodak camera. This traditional dance around The Royal Hawaiian & Kapi olani Regional Park was framed as a place of entertainment and visual consumption. Later on, this representation of a romantic native paradise led the island to become a backdrop for Western tourists from America or Europe.

On Ebay, the sale of postcards capturing the dance during the 1960 s and 1970 s continues, as an untroubled nostalgic image remains. This account transfers postcards from eBay to google maps. In order to challenge the touristic gaze in the contemporary digital public space.

Overall, it is a beautiful resort. The atmosphere is amazing, amenities are decent, it has a quieter atmosphere than nearby hotels. However, I will say that the customer service is very very poor. Especially given the premium price tag.

I booked a four night stay at the hotel when I visited with my 68 year old mother.
My mom had an out patient procedure two days before departure and the day before we left we were advised not to travel.

The hotel charged us $1,200 to cancel during a global pandemic.

Absolutely ridiculous for an unscrupulous charge during a time of crisis in the nation. This pandemic will end and people will vacation again - I highly recommend not patronizing this hotel when the time comes. I know I won t.

The Royal Hawaiian is a beautiful and conveniently located Waikiki destination but the top notch staff are what makes it so special. I always have good time whenever I visit thanks to the great service.

I was troubled with Moana and Sheraton, but I was attracted by the beautiful pink building that shines in the sun of Hawaii and select this. It became a favorite color before accommodation. It is a color that remains in memories.
I chose the new building, but this was correct. The lounge also offers snacks, snacks and wines to unwind. And, after all, the best location where the beach spreads in front of you. The service I felt was also great. It was an inn that seemed to want to go again.

One of the most amazing hotels I ve been to in Waikiki . Just the theme of the island is so well expressed here. A beautiful place to hangout and the views are spectacular. I would love to go to this hotel again and try out dinner menu. Looking forward to going here again!

Nice place but I guess they don t pay their staff well because they are all on strike now. So of course service is markedly decreased, and the poor folks who have been brought in are scrambling like mad. The included breakfasts and happy hour snacks have noticeably decreased in quality and quantity and are now
Served on disposable plates. Housekeeping can only clean in a pinch. Hopefully the hotel will settle with the strikers quickly and pay them a living wage, and we can get the luxury vacation we paid for.

If you are really rich, choose this hotel. Every waitress will treat you well. They judge you based on your cloth, bag......

If you are an ordinary person, like me, just want to spend more money and expect a enjoyable vacation, don t choose this hotel!! The waitress won t take you well at all!! What I went through:

1. Hotel gave a free photo for every stay. I gave the photo voucher to the hotel s photo station, the clerk gave me an introduction about their paid program. I refused to take the paid photo. Then they asked me about 4-5 times... and let me take the paid photo. I still refused... then they are disappointing and throw me an appointment card and let me come back at the second day.

2. Every nice and rich looking people ask for beach tower, the clerk just give them. When I asked, they asked me where I live and what s my room number. I don t mind for the first time, but the same lady asked me every time within my 4 days stay....about...10 times. I don t believe that lady cannot remember me.

3. When nice and rich people walk into their seafood restaurant (Azura), the waitress at front desk just guide them to the table. When I walked in, an Asian looking young lady asked me to take a look of their menu, and point the price to me, and asked me 3 times, are you sure you want to eat here??? OMG... why? you think an ordinary people cannot have an expensive meal??

Besides the room charge, there is $30-40 parking fee, $40 resort fee, $40-50 for having a chair for one day (on the beach ... within this hotel).

If you think you can pay $300-400 and have a room per night, don t choose this hotel. You need to have $150 more, at least, prepared for per night.

BTW, I am a 30 yr old, and earning 100K per year.

Very welcoming staff..rooms were clean and well stocked though we had mountain view the room and view was quite pleasant. Minimal noise carryover at night from festivities aside from the wonderful fireworks show on Friday nights.

When staying at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel be prepared to spend more money for the Tan Beds near the pool side and on the beach. You pretty much are just paying for your room, which if you are staying in the historic part of the hotel is really small. I m big on tanning and everywhere I wanted to lay to catch some sun was for rental. There were a small portion of beds that were available that were not for a cost however, you have to get out there very early otherwise they will all be taken. If you have small children that require attention and need to be watched while in the pool you will not find a free bed near the portion of the pool for the younger children, all of those are for rental as well.

What a beautiful property filled with beautiful people! From our experience at the bell desk, to check-in, to our sumptuous breakfast at the Surf Lanai to our indulgent poolside cabana...it was great! We stayed in the historic wing and the rooms here are very chic and elegant. There was no lanai, however as you can see from our photo, the windows offered a spectacular view of Waikiki Beach. We were so happy. Would definitely recommend this gem of a hotel, it is truly like stepping back into history.

What a wonderful experience we had. Attentive service, reserved beach chairs, and a beach front restaurant. We love this place and if you go to the Mai Tai, the Blue Hawaiian is a MUST!!!

First Class resort, the beaches are spectacular, close proximity to bars, restaurants and shopping. Enjoyed being able to use both pools. Breakfast in the morning is very busy so have patience - but the buffet was something new everyday. Totally recommend - can't wait to go back again.

My family and I didn't have the intentions of booking with The Royal Hawaiian when we visited, we were more sight seeing our options for a later date. Appearance wise the hotel loomed very comfy and it's location very calming even though it is located in Waikiki where the night life seems endless and the days busy. I didn't interact with staff however observing guests that were booked there and the staff at a distance, it looked like a pleasant interaction. The hotel is definitely on my list to stay at in the future.

Beyond the incredible location, service and comfort. On this occasion, I would like to rescue the genuine and warm attention of its employees. I knew I was excited for my mother's birthday, The service room * sent a warm breakfast, with a present. Although I clarified the misunderstanding, which was my mother's birthday, not mine. This sublime act has made her present on this special day, in which she would have turned 68. May the Lord bless you.

Cute

We didn't stay here this trip. I worked there as a bus boy 45 years ago and wanted to visit the old girl once more. The hotel, which was built by King Kamehameha a hundred years ago, is still worthy of royalty, as it was originally intended.

There is so much history here. We had one of the inner courtyard rooms, with views of the gardens. The trip from the mainland in the 1920's used to take about 3 weeks, and people were so tired of looking at the ocean, that the hotel designed the gardens to be a refreshing change of scenery.

Really beautiful hotel. Despite the original staff being on strike, Marriott/SPG brought in an awesome team of managers from around the world. They made our stay very memorable. Our room got upgraded to an oceanfront suite, the bar staff bought us a round of drinks to celebrate my birthday and they checked in with us, on occasion, to make sure our stay was outstanding. We really appreciated the extra effort and will be back soon.

We stayed in the new tower. Our room was comfortable with an unbeatable ocean view. Good dining options in the hotel, including the buffet breakfast. Beach is right in front of the hotel, so it s super easy to dip toes in the ocean. Our 4 year old loved running up and down the beach. Staff was very nice and helpful.

Lovely hotel. Staff are courteous and friendly. Our room was smaller than I expected for the price but nice decor and clean. (We didn t spend much time in the room anyhow) concierges were very professional and helpful. We were able to book all the tours we wanted. The reception was very responsive and I liked that I was able to text questions and they would receive answers promptly. Over all I had a great experience there and will stay again.

Great location and awesome historic appeal. It's right on the beach...Which only a couple hotels are in Waikiki. The rooms are a little underwhelming however...Even in the "new" tower they are fairly small and not as fancy as the price tag suggests.
