The Royal is the quintessential hotel in the states. It's a little shabby around the edges but a hotel you need to stay at once in your life.
Have a drink at the Mai Tai bar looking out over the Blue Pacific and just kick back unbelievable experience.

Well first it took them well over one hour to get my luggage to my room. I had to call to the desk multiple times, this was extremely frustrating after a 14 hour flight. And then we found a bug in our bed, which i wasnt going to care too much about, until we found more bugs crawling in between the sheets. After that there was the spider infestation that looked like no one had cared to clean. So we called and asked for a new room, no one ever apologized or offered anything in the way of compensation for the hour and a half it took for them to make this happen. I was okay with all of that and didnt want to make a big deal.

One week after we checked out and settled the bill, they added a charge, when i called the same day the charge showed up, they told me the people who handle this arent there (labor day) so they were there to chage my credit card, but not to take my call. So i called the next day and spoke with the manager Roland, i explained that if they made a mistake that was their issue, and how unprofessional of them to add charges after the bill is settled one week later without talking to me.

He agreed and committed to taking the charge off, 3 days later it was processed by my credit card company.

If you are looking for excellant service and competence; look elsewhere.

Attended the luau - fantastic experience. A little different from others in that it focused on the history and storytelling of Hawaii, but dancing and singing was fantastic. The buffet was delicious - options ranged from a massive salad bar, curry, seafood, roast pig and grilled chicken. Plus, the open bar was nice too!

The royal Hawaiian surprised me. I didn't realize how original everything about the structure is. It's beautiful in a classic way like you're transported back into time. It's an interesting concept to imagine what things we're like maybe some odd 50 or 60 years ago and the royal ignites your imagination that way. It feels surreal to imagine who originally walked those halls. Although the outside seems outdated it adds to it's classic charm. I love pink but even to me the pink is a little overwhelming but it too adds to the charm of the building. It's significant. It's like a trademark. The service was among the best service I've received at a hotel. From front desk to the valet to housekeeping to the hotel bar it was unsurpassed. Everyone goes especially out of their way to make a connection with the guests of the royal. The time or concrete staircases all over the hotel are gorgeous. It's not anything you see in hotels today. The room has this enormous vaulted ceiling that makes the room feel so much bigger. The air conditioner is in ridiculously good condition so much so that I spent most of my days freezing but in a good way. I wish I had that bed in my house! The entire mattress feels like a huge pillow and the pillows feel like air. The down comforter is so light and still amazes me that something so light can make you so warm so quickly or keep you cool. I haven't had great sleep like I did at the royal in a really long time if not ever. I think my favorite part of everything is the hotel room door. It's carved with ancient Hawaii insignia. It's just beautiful. Their business center is also easily accessible and convenient. We had an emergency and had to use their computer and printer and it was fast, simple and easy.

I stayed at Mai Lani Tower. I was able to use the lounge, but the dishes were not cleaned and disappointed. Even if the rooms are old, dust on the shelves in the closet and the ring Jimi on the table glass should be manageable ... (-_-#)

I can relax very much! Room service etc. were not perfect at the strike during the stay, but it was a good memory as the location and atmosphere of the hotel itself were attractive.
We have plenty of services available to our guests.
Activities such as yoga, hula dance and ukulele can be experienced for free.
The morning yoga in the garden seemed fun, so I applied for it, but the staff were people who did not speak Japanese.

This is Hawai...classic, comfortable, clean and convenient. Experience staff, outstanding bars and welcoming spirit. While not the new kid in the block, this is old school charm with fresh Hawaii flavor to go around.
Tip: best access to the beach and tours.

Magical! I cannot put words to the experience here. The rooms are beautifully decorated. The food and beverage options are varied and consistently great. Have a mai tai! They invented it! Rent a beach chair and umbrella, it's worth the small fee! Just wander the beautiful grounds. Shopping is steps away.

Awesome. Heavenly place. Close to everything and more foot in the sand than this is impossible. Excellent service and everything organized. It is one of the first hotels on the Island, it even has a mini museum with pictures of the time, many people have already been here. The food is good, the drinks are not even spoken of as good.

A unique looking hotel near multiple shipping areas. The restaurant, Azure, is to notch and always has unique preparations for your enjoyment. Parking is less than optimal but at least the valet is free with validation.

I went to the Royal Hawaiian for my birthday week....

I went to the Royal Hawaiian for my birthday week. I checked in the 24th of May and checked out the 31st of May. On the 26th, my birthday, we returned to our room from the Luau to discover that is was full of flying termites. Now I have stayed at the RH many times in the past and found that any problem was soon resolved by the staff. But not this time. I called downstairs and was told they could spray the room but we would have to put up with the smell for the evening. Also I was told that they had bugs in the lobby so it was no big deal....really? I said that was not acceptable. The maids on the floor came in to clean the dead bugs out of the bathtub and told us the hotel should take good care of us since the hotel was not full. Well they didnt! We had to go to the lobby and wait for someone to help us and the we were moved to a room on the same floor but blocks away. When we started moving our 3 suitcase of close from the drawers and closet we found that the new room had no AC. It was broken. So downstairs I went again. Again, I had to stand in line with people checking in. Remember this is 945pm at night. I had no wish to be changing rooms and dealing with clothes and suitcases when I should be out enjoying my birthday.

So.......once I see someone, they give me the room right next door to my old room. But this new room had a bathroom that was basically non-existent. You could either sit on the toilet or close the bathrooom door but you could not do both. There was no bathtub, just a stall shower. The room had dressers but there were no drawers for clothes. The closet had a rail for clothes but 1/2 the rail was taken up by cement wall. This too was not acceptable but we slept that night with our clothes still in our suitcases and gave up on celebrating the birthday. We were just to tired and to angry to enjoy anything at this point.

The next day I went down and asked to see the manager on duty. I believe his name was Evan. He did move us to a very nice ocean view room. Now for the bugs we were paying $375 per night plus $35 resort fee plus taxes. So this was not slouch vacation to begin with. But the upgrade was very nice and very much appreciated. And finally someone said they were sorry for our inconvenience. Not one person the night before said they were sorry. Not one.

Well from there it just did not get better........it was nice but we did not get our room made up any day before 330-4pm in the afternoon. We finally had to call one day to have it done before 1pm. Then when they would make the room up at 4pm they would be knocking 2 hours later at 6pm to turn it down for the evening. Really??? When we said, no we just got in our room....they would hand us our pillow chocolates and say goodnight. One night we were in the hall as they were coming around to turn down the rooms and they asked if we needed anything and we said not really. So instead of going to our room and turning it down they handed us our chocolates in the hall and said Aloha.

Finally when I checked out on my bill was a charge for $127 concierge service. I guess that is from bothering the concierge more than most for a 1 week stay. All that room moving and all. I cannot think that it would be for asking them to book the Luau at the RH that cost $353 for 2. Since it was at the hotel I would not think it was for just asking them to make me a reservations. Isnt that what a concierge is paid to do by the hotel? I am not quite sure what that charge was for but I paid it anyway.

So there you have it.......my magical 60th birthday week at the not so magical Royal Hawaiian. It use to be a very very nice hotel. But honestly, if I wanted Howard Johnson, I would have stayed there and save a lot of money on the room and service.

I visited the royal Hawaiian for their "in-house" Luau. While I was there the service was stunning. The bathrooms were very clean. I imagine the view from most of the rooms is stunning as you would be able to view the ocean quite clearly, as well as diamond Head.

What an amazing hotel! My husband and I stayed here and were blown away by the staff, the beautiful room, and their delicious breakfast! The Royal Pink pancakes are to die for, I would come back just for them!! We had an ocean front room that had incredible views! You can watch the sunset right from the balcony. The bed was super soft, the robes were fluffy, and the room was clean. The beach that the hotel is set on is the best part of Waikiki Beach. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back!

I expected a lot from a place like this, but the service was sub-par. We waited 30 minutes before a waitress finally showed uo to ask us for drinks. Food didnt come out for another 30 minutes and it was burnt.

I have patronized RH for years, even memorializing it on my book, prototrophic. Today, security threatened and physically intimidated for me to leave. When I asked for explanation, the same security tried to say I refused to leave, called the police, and then tried to prevent me from leaving so he could have me arrested for tress passing. This was all documented on video, in front of 2 front desk staff. I had my last good moment with my mother a year ago at the mai tai bar. This was an appalling and sad way to end the fan fair. It was utterly distasteful. Be aware. If u r digital nomad, stay away from this place

It s a classic hotel and it s access to the beach is great but its also kind of stuck between big, modern resort and museum piece. Some of the amenities were what I d expect in 2020, some felt more like 1920.
