The strike was ongoing during our stay, and services at the hotel were limited. I support workers right to strike and would have booked elsewhere had I known. The hotel is gorgeous and conveniently located but it did not feel like a resort given limited amenities and sub-par cleaning due to housekeeping shortage. This was the most expensive stay during our time in Hawaii, but we were guests at 2-star hotels that were better kept and with better service (shout-out to the Hawaiian-owned Seaside Hotel chain).

We went to Mai Tai Bar, I was looking forward to their signature Mai Tai with two really good rums in it. But they were out of those rums, and when I looked at the rest of the menu, it was evident the drinks had low quality liquors in it. Service was also not great: slow and didn't really understand the drinks on the menu. Food was fine, but not why I went.

We stopped in for drinks at the mai Tai bar, and they were outstanding. They are a bit pricey at $15 per drink, but it's well worth it for the best mai Tai around. You also cannot beat the beach atmosphere, and friendly bartenders.

Spent holidays here. Understand that it's historical and all, but was my worst stay at a hotel to memory. Rooms were aged and small, service was slow or non-existent, and felt hectic/overcrowded always. This may have been acceptable if they charged half of what they do per night, but that clearly not the case.

You always feel like royalty at the Royal Hawaiian. Stepping through the gates you are immediately transported to a special place separate from the rest of Waikiki. Excellent food and service but the ambiance is what really makes this place a gem.

The grounds are beautiful, there is a service dog bathroom area (I noticed this as my wife requires a service dog), and the food at Azure is prepared wonderfully. Fish is fresh from the auction each morning.

The service was great. Hotel recreation was acceptable. I just wish the pool was bigger. Also, in-room-dining I was forced to pay cash instead of charging it to the room for some reason.

The best hotel in all of Waikiki. Amazing, attentive staff, well-appointed rooms, historic building, and the prime location make this a must stay. Beautiful furniture and woodwork throughout the property. If you only come to Hawaii once, you must stay here.

A true 5 star hotel with the complete experience. Staff takes care of every need and is always on top of everything. Beautiful luau and location right in the heart of Waikiki. Best of the beach hotels.

We were torn between choosing the more modern looking rooms with full ocean views, and the traditional heritage rooms in the old original part of the hotel - so we split our stay between the two spending 4 nights in each.
General: The staff at the RHH are all incredibly friendly and helpful, and service is excellent. The grounds around the property are a lush green oasis of calm and adds to the exclusivity.
The hotel location can not be beaten - it s got the best part of the beach, and outside you re right in the middle of the shopping area.
The resort fee includes portable Wifi hire - perfect for using while out exploring the island. The hotel Wifi is free and super-fast (70-90mbps).
Beds are very comfortable and the linens are top quality Frette. Toiletries are gorgeous organic M lie.

Mailani Tower:
The building is a 70 s concrete construction, but the views they offer are unparalleled. Beach, palm trees, surf & surfers - Iconic Hawaii - this is what you re paying extra for at the Mailani Tower. We also loved hearing the sound of the ocean - so soothing.
***Tip: It s also definitely worth paying a bit extra for a high floor!
The rooms are a mix of tired-traditional and faded-modern decor. The air conditioning units are old and clunky and loud - you can t sleep with it on, even on low it s noisy.
Bathrooms are very dated and the over-tub shower isn t the best - not what you d expect from a top hotel.
No blockout blinds or curtains - just sliding louver shutters which let in the morning light so no sleeping late allowed here.
The Mailani Lounge provides a complimentary light breakfast in the mornings, and also a happy (2.5) hour for drinks and nibbles in the evening. The lounge was never packed during these hours- always seating available. Service was super friendly too.
There is a coffee machine in the lounge too and this is available for use though the day and evening.

Traditional wing:
The original part of the hotel is absolutely stunning- wide open spaces with high ceiling and beautiful architectural features, and all beautifully maintained. The room doors are original heavy carved wood, the hallway carpet are gorgeous pattered.
Rooms are spacious with lots of natural light - we were given a room on the 6th floor. Curtains are black-out so great for the mornings. Beds are much more comfortable than the Mailani Tower too. Bathrooms have a modern shower cubicle and the shower is excellent.
We loved our stay at this historic beauty, knows as The Pink Palace of the Pacific.

I don't recommend anybody to stay at this hotel, beach overcrowding and you have to reserve chairs and umbrella one day before. The main swimming pool is a sharing between them and the Sheraton hotel, and it is overcrowded too, not easy to find a single empty chair as well.
I don't like their resultants food at all. it is not five stars hotel .

Pricier for sure, paid $14 for a Mai Tai but it was well worth it. The atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous and as a native Hawaiian this hotel definitely holds some historical value to me to back in the days where buildings were as tall as the tallest palm tree, which are days we are far past now.

Attended the Hula Ho'olauna event at the Coconut Grove on 4/23/16. The Grove was amazingly beautiful, the seating very well spaced and comfortable, refreshments were always kept cold and full, there was even shade for the sitting area which made it just perfect.

We had drinks at the Mai Tai Bar on the beach side and the staff was friendly and attentive. They even moved umbrellas around for our party of 10 so we could have shade. A bit pricey for the drinks and pupua, but still an enjoyable experience.

Only went to the bar but the hotel looks fantastic. The bar is right on the beach. Cool vibe and atmosphere. Great Mai tai. A drink at night there would be perfect. You should go. Check next on twitch too. Hugh_ginvaney

The Rotary Club of Honolulu has it's weekly (Tuesday) meeting in the Monarch Room of the Royal Hawaiian hotel. Lunch is buffet style, and is generally very good. A lovely Filipina lady serves me coffee -- and always makes sure I get decaf.

In summary, the food is very good, and the service is wonderful.

I understand the hotel is historic but the room was small, bathroom was extremely small. Comfy beds, pink robe, --good.

House keeper forgot to restock coffee & shampoo etc. Front desk staff is mostly friendly but some could have a Hawaiian personality/attitude.

For the same amount price I would stay somewhere else.

The bed is too soft and it is tough to have low back pain. Poor water production (just enough to do it). The water in the toilet was full (I waited for about 60 minutes). Unscrew the glasses and contact the front. I just have no driver. . . I expected it to be a hotel with more detailed response. I'm sorry.

Had an all day business conference here. Very nice hospitality and facilities. Some facilities such as bathrooms are not air conditioned so it can be humid. Parking is shared with Sheraton Waikiki, not the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center which is adjacent.

Stay in the corner room where you can see the diamond head from the terrace. The facility has a long history, the theme is pink, and the contrast with the sea is good. I like going up from the sea and spending time on the terrace. Breakfast was disappointing but could be eaten in the lounge. Hospitality to titanium members is good. In addition, the staff of the lounge are energetic and have a good impression.

My gentleman friend and I stayed there a few times in the Malani Towet section that faces the ocean. We love it there, walking distance to downtown or the mercado shopping area. Walk down to the beach and have a drink or lunch at the outdoor bar. Lots of shops and entertainment at the hotel besides being a beautiful hotel. Lots of free food and drinks for breakfast or Happy Hour.
