With more than 2300 European masterpieces in its collection, this is one of the world's great galleries, with formative works from the 13th to the mid-20th century, including masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian, Vincent van Gogh and Auguste Renoir. Many visitors flock to the eastern rooms on the main floor (1700 1930), where works by British artists such as Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable and JMW Turner, and Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces by Van Gogh, Renoir and Claude Monet await.

Amazing pieces and phenomenal building... Lacks a general flow when exploring and gets a bit samey. I know how that sounds. I'm recent years I've come to appreciate a gallery that makes an effort to keep me engaged, but this one didn't. Still, of you know what you're in for its got everything it claims.

Beautiful selection of Western art. Unfortunately as of 20 August 2015, there was industrial action taking place and a good third of the museum was not open to viewing. Be sure to call ahead to find out if certain sections you're intending to see will be available.

Amazing place! I must visit place if you enjoy art. It's free which is great. Especially if you're short on time or just want to kill time. (However I highly recommend you take your time and walk through everything).

Although it's free you can choose to donate at the end. Well worth doing in my opinion (no matter how big or small). I have paid a lot of money in other countries to see the same level of art work.

A must see when visiting London, a great place with a tonne of culture and art to full an entire day! Also amazing views of the London eye and Thames from the top of the stairs as you walk out! Might need to queue a bit to get your bags searched and not sure if you are able to go in if you have larger luggage with you. Great shop as well with beautiful items relating to the art displayed. A bonus is that they are trying to be more eco friendly and pack in the most gorgeous peinted paper bags (which I might have kept as a souvenir as well)

Wonderful gallery with a collection of world famous paintings, the National Gallery is a must-see on any visit to London. Apart from the paintings, the surroundings themselves are beautiful and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place 100%.

Great place to visit in London. I am a very happy man visiting any kind of cultural museum but the paintings from this one are really on other level then you can see in a lot of museums spread across Europe. I personally believe that is one of the most exciting museum from England and even from the World with loads of masterpiece.

Very big, good explanations for the paintings. The collection is so large you can easily find whatever you like: I enjoyed Dutch school with all their attention to details. Several "must see" items like The ambassadors and The sunflowers.

Visited the Cezanne exhibition at the national portrait gallery. Honestly one of the best exhibitions I've ever been to. Was a little expensive but I really enjoyed how the exhibition gave such an insight into his life, why he painted a particular portrait at a particular time. Just super. Couldn't take any pics so can't attach any.

Hosts artistic treasures from around the World. Possibly the finest gallery in the whole of the United Kingdom. You may be surprised by the amount of original artworks that you recognise!!

This place is huuuuuge! I really recommend it. The entrance is free (a donation is suggested). It has lots of different exhibitions that change during the year and the museum itself is a work of art. There are guided tours but I m not sure of the price. Outside there are many artists playing music or painting and, sometimes, other activities.

Ok

Unfortunately, Water-Lily Pond of Monet and Whistlejacket of Studds are away now.
So I bought the postcards and a book of Da Vinci home, see you next time.

Brilliant gallery. Learned so much about the past history of the country from the golden age Tudor period to the modern time. There are lots of paintings and statues of the past Kings and Queens where you can take your time to appreciate them in a quiet and peaceful environment.

Get ready to meet the masters up close and personal in an environment that is well lit, very comfortable and just pleasing to your senses. The range of artistry and eras is quite impressive and only surpassed by the Met in New York. Admission is free of charge so there are no excuses for not coming here.

Lovely

But how great to see some of the works or art that are world treasures for free! (made a small optional contribution) in a beautiful building

This important National Gallery of London pain...

This important National Gallery of London paintings was founded way back in 1824. Its headquarters are located in the central Trafalgar Square and inside it houses more than two thousand three hundred paintings from various eras and schools dating back to the middle of the twelfth century until the beginning of the last country . Admission to the main collection is perpetually free. In the beginning the collection of paintings was not very significant; it began to be so, when the British government decided to purchase 38 paintings fro the banker John Julius Angerstein in 1824 .The gallery was later enlarged, for obvious reasons ,tanks to the incessant work by its first directors, including the figure of Sir Charles Lock Eastlake and to donations from private individuals. Over time, this Gallery has achieved unexpected goals, tanks to the presence of works by great masters from Europe, dated from the Middle Ages up to post impressionism. At this point , it is fair to say that this wealth works was amply enriched by the presence of minor works and by local schools .The only part of the building, which has remained largely unchanged over rime is the facade of 1832-1838, designed by the architect William Wilkins; everything else has been expanded to accommodate new works. This Gallery , of course, I recommend it only to all those who are lovers of the great art of all time.
I take this opportunity, to wish you happy holiday and to hear from you, after my return from the well-deserved summer break.
