Love going here. The fact its free to see amazing pieces if art each in a seperate set of rooms for each era. The shop is good though some of the books are quite heavilly thumbed and slightly damaged by 'readers'.

A beautiful building, with various tastes in art catered for. Ensure you plan for one of the tours, as they give you more of a detailed insight into the artist and meanings of the piece of art than what you can read in a book.

Tourist tip: you can leave your luggage in cloakroom for few pounds, which helps.
There is a nice restaurant at second floor.

I can't tell you how much I love this place, it's free and has one of the finest collections of art in the world a place I could lose myself for days in. A must if your visiting London and want to see some of the paintings you have heard so much about :D)

Busy but great gallery just off Trafalgar Square. I wasn't keen on the staff just inside the entrance pressuring for donations before you'd even got in the door - I understand the importance of the public donations, but would appreciate walking around first before I donate. As a first time visitor it's slightly off putting. Anyway, it's easy to spend a couple of hours wandering round here, and they have some really spectacular work. A few well known pieces too. Worth a visit if you're in the area and have some free time.

This is one of the great art museums, and still free! The National Gallery is on Trafalgar Square, next to another art museum, the National Portrait Gallery. The collection is very large and so you will need more than a day if you want to see ALL the works. Best is to study the excellent website first and plan your visit. There are also special expositions on a regular basis, but these must be paid for. The cafe and shop are also very good.

They have an extesive collection of paintings from great artist. It could take you a whole day if you want to understand the history of all the paintings in the museum, Also there is a audio guide available inside but you have to pay a fee to rent it.

Really enjoyed my visit here today.

Really enjoyed my visit here today.

Staff are lovely, and I enjoyed the paintings. This is a very busy gallery yet somehow the atmosphere was calm. Really pleasurable time.

Disabled toilets available.

Not enough gluten free food choices but overall a good experience.

Look up on line for the exhibitions that may or may not interest you.

The national gallery is a real national treasure. The gallery holds some of the greatest works of art in the world in a grand but sympathetic setting. The staff are very friendly and amazingly the whole thing is free to enter (although a donation is encouraged).

What's not to love a chance to see some of the most beautiful paintings and all free. All around the outside is just full of people pavement artists musicians travellers from all over the world. Trafalgar Square is just buzzing.

One of the top art museums in the world. Highlights include a real Leonardo Da Vinci, a trainload of Van Goghs, numerous Rembrandts, and the list goes on and on.

I like that there is still no admission charge (although they do, and rightfully so, encourage visitors to donate).

It bothers me a bit that many of the paintings which were previously free are now walled off into "special exhibitions" which incur an additional charge. Oh well, it's a sign of the times: operating one the worlds greatest art museums is an expensive undertaking. Gift shops and paid special exhibits are the price we pay for having access to world-class art.

If you go to London as a tourist, and you have not been to the National Gallery, then you haven't been to London.

Went in as the rain was pouring down. I didn't think it would be for me but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend this attraction, together with the national portrait gallery. Both are well worth a visit and they are both free entry although they ask for donations.

Superlative collection of European paintings from Middle Ages to early 1900s. Please don't try to see it all in one day. It's admission free so come back several times for a couple hours and just savor all the gems.

I only went in to find a gift and use the facilities. London has so many good museums and to be honest, it's easy to get museum-fatigue. That's what made the surprises even more wonderful. There are Picasso and Monet paintings amongst others, but who can resist a Picasso sunflower or the chair from his little room? Did I mention it's free? The bathrooms and gift shops are also good:)

Beautiful, absolutely stunning. The National Gallery is perfect for education trips to learn about art and culture, go with friends and share your interests or take your significant other with you to learn about each others perspectives. Overall, brilliant for social relationships.

The gallery is very big and there are so many sections to go to. There are maps to guide you to those sections you want to visit. The collections are absolutely breathtaking and of course you can find different styles, art forms, time periods, etc....the list goes on. The only thing to take in consideration is keeping your flash off in your camera/device and not disrupting the, few, quiet spaces because you'll often find yourself being surrounded by people but not noise which I think helps you observe and admire the paintings better.

An exceptionally beautiful art museum set at Trafalgar Square - a very convenient location. There are many art installments dating from the 13th century up until the 19th century. The most crucial paintings from the history of the world. Very peaceful place designed for art lovers from all ages. You can also enjoy your time at the cafe or the restaurant inside. You can spend as much time as you want. A must visit, and it is close to the Portraits Gallery.

Extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff. I visited this week with a 5 and a 2 year old grandchild. Getting in from the rain with a buggy was made very simple. Whenever I asked for directions to a particular painting every room warden seemed to know exactly how to find it and how best to get there with a buggy. The staff running the special children's activity were great despite it being so busy. The atmosphere generally was so welcoming. A great experience. Thank you.

Most art works have a number for audio guide BUT however, when you type in the number the audio guide can't find the item. It seems like they stick the labels before they do the recordings.
About 90 percent of drawings have a number for audio guide, but only one or two (sometimes no) in a room has the audio guide recording. Terrible. Wasting time and energy.
