Lovely place to visit. As with visiting musuems or galleries, please allocate at least two hours to going around and enjoying the exhibits. Entrance is free. There seems to be a good cafe inside.

I love this gallery, It is home to some of the worlds most beautiful biblical based paintings. they even add the bible, chapter and verse so you can read along and gain a much deeper insight into the wonder of the works. Worth a visit anytime of the year.

Visited it for the second time in November 2018.
You can go for the permanent exhibition or for one of the temporary ones.
I saw Mantegna and Bellini one and was really impressed.
The most crowded room is the one containing the Van Gogh paintings.

Ok

Such a treat.

Such a treat.
Absolutely love the National Gallery.
If possible, avoid weekends and do become a member.
Good spot to buy souvenirs.
Also, the staff is extremely polite and nice.

Located on Trafalgar Square, National Galleries do not get much more central than this. Added to that, the National Gallery is free - although donations are politely solicited. This does mean that the place can get very crowded, so going "off peak" is recommended. It is the breadth of the art on offer that is so impressive - if you name a famous painter then they are here.

I love the collection it has of most eminent painters of Europe. I would recommend it to all lovers of art........Large representation of many of the most important artists of many art streams. Especially the collection of Turners, Gainsboroughs and Van Goghs is a must see. The museum though is overcrowded and relatively loud which makes it difficult to enjoy the art. Furthermore the art is quite cramped into the rooms.......

One of my least favourite London museums. It's busy, seemingly with people who aren't interested in the art, and the exhibition on Leonardo is a joke - barely worth the time to go round let alone having to pay.

Beautiful paintings in a pleasant atmosphere. Not so busy you couldn't enjoy the pictures. Plenty of seating so you can stay and gaze...... really enjoyed the small exhibit about the conservancy work. Will need many more trips there to see it all. (Think I got lost in some of the beautiful landscapes ;-) )

Great permanent exhibition and quality of art, although the place is smaller and subjectively less significant than many national galleries from other large European capitals and artistic hubs.

Enjoyed exhibition of Gauguin's paintings and sculptures. Gauguin is not everyone's cup of tea. But I enjoyed the pictures and exhibits shown at the Gallery. Vivid colours and his sculptures that I did not know about. Also it was good to know about his life.

This is a place where you can spend the day and more. Go for Degas, the Dutch painters,... It's a delight.
I will recommend to plan your visit, it can be overwhelming (and tiring) to try to cover everything on one visit. Even then you will need an stop at the coffee shop.

An excellent art gallery showcasing British and European art spanning centuries, many artists and art styles. It is truely one of the great art galleries in our world and we are extremely fortunate to have it. The art housed within its walls is splendid and one must visit it sometime if one hasn't already. It is truly worth it.

Full of wonderful paintings. Could spend days here. The restaurant was a welcome break from touring the galleries. Not cheap but service was good with nice ambience and views of Trafalgar Square.

Amazing place to visit. Make sure you set aside plenty of time to visit. The National Gallery has a very handy app that provides more information about the artwork. You can also plan your visit - we were there for a couple of hours and focussed on Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Constable and Renoir. There is so much to see.

Awesome and Beautiful. I did get there a little late (1.5hrs to closure), not sufficient time to join a tour or take the audio guide. Winged it to make sure I saw Titian, Van Eyck, Botticelli, Beuckelaer's four elements, Raphael, More

This museum is extremely large and contains paintings from almost every famous artist in history, even if the paintings are not the most famous pieces from the artist. There are probably about ten or so pictures that are extremely famous, and those are the ones I was interested in seeing. The rest of the pictures are either not so famous, or by people you have never heard of unless you are an art history buff.

Unfortunately, on the day I went there were many primary school trips to the museums and the dormant teachers encouraged students to sit down on the floor right in front of the paintings so they could draw their own renditions of them. This is extremely rude and inconsiderate because it makes it really hard to move around the kids to see the paints closely.

I tried asking one of the staff in one of the rooms for help but she didn't speak English and had absolutely no idea what I was saying when I asked her where the Rembrandt paintings were. I eventually found them without her help.

It is a long, tiring and busy day, and I am not sure it is worth it to see all the paintings and it can get extremely repetitive seeing so many pictures that look alike, but at least it is free.

Extremely overcrowded, no clear route to follow and no proper curation to contextualise the works on display. Also a depressing amount of people who just come to get a pic of a van Gogh without even looking at the poor thing.

As a full time wheelchair user it was easy to get around, but the portraits were mainly of foreign ladies and gents, there wasn't much interesting to see and the new abstract art was a big disappointment!.

Art presented in a relaxed yet formal surrounding. Fantastic exhibitions, and a well thought out layout showing how style changes with time. The Dutch masters sections is especially good.

If I have a spare morning or afternoon in London then this is one of my favourite places. The room guides are quite knowledgeable, the works of art incredible and housed in a beautiful building.

Yes, it's free, but who wants to see 16th centurie's paintings of clerics anyway? There's a small exhibition of an abstract art painter, but it seems to be the most boring abstract painter ever.

Really enjoyed seeing original paintings by famous artists. Many not so famous artists had wonderful work as well. Quite a variety of styles and mediums. Spent about 90 minutes, but could do more or less time. You can always come back too because it's free!
