Amazing building and fantastic collections. Just walk around slowly and let the thought flow around. Next time try the late friday evening event for next level experience.
If we have just gone for the artwork then it would deserve a higher star rating. The art is amazing to see, so many different pieces was mind blowing - we found the art room staff to be very friendly and the security people to be really kind and helpful whilst doing a good job protecting the gallery. However, we wanted a coffee and a snack and this is where the lowering of the mark comes in. The staff were rude and unhelpful and made it crystal clear they didn t want us in there because we had allergies. It s not our fault we have allergies but all we wanted was a coffee and a snack. I have since read previous reviews which make it absolutely clear we are not alone in this and that they clearly haven t learnt from previous complaints. So my advice to you is to go and enjoy the art, talk to the people in the rooms, smile at the security guards and go to the crypt under Saint Martin in the fields next door for coffee and a snack - or even lunch. It s a lot cheaper and they have better choices - they even cater for people with allergies - unlike the National Gallery
The works were wonderful. Very uplifting. However the display/picture descriptions were extremely difficult to read. The letter to background contrast was the problem.
Amazing opportunity to see the best pics of the world, most of them Italian.
Free entrance!
This gallery features some of the most looked upon pieces of Art through out history including Van Gogh with several of his works on display with exciting well worded information next to it. The only real problem is if you wish to photograp an image the lighting is too yellow this could be fixed with some LED lighting which would allow for a more real representation of the work (FLASH OFF FOR PHOTOGRAPHY)
Beautiful gallery with beautiful original paintings of 100's of years old, entrance is free but they ask for donations but it's not compulsory, they also have a shop with lots of art related items including great books about art and artists.
Lots of very well-known paintings housed in a beautiful building
stounding art collection in the central of London. Good meeting point. Proximity to many of London's main features like Convent Garden, Soho, Piccadilly Circus etc.Surrounded by restaurants
Just walking through the rooms is already providing a great experience. But add the impressive collection to it and you'll have a great time for sure.
Quite brilliant visit to the gallery. Good coffee and cake despite completely bonkers catering system.
Always a place to return to,nice staff beautiful building and art.
Covid 19 precautions mean for the first time in a long time I've been to an exhibition and been able to walk slowly and consider each piece of art with an uninterrupted view. We queued patiently to be allowed into the building but were not rushed through the Titian and followed a prescribed route through the gallery. Staff were helpful. Well done NG.
Rembrandt. He is the reason for looking at paintings.
It was alright to take photos but not much else to do if you don't have a person to guide you and tell you about things and food there was a bit expensive.
Breathtaking array of old masters and impressionist masterpieces.
What's to not like? It's free (you should donate) and has a fantastic collection of art. It has a cafe and a gift shop. Lovely museum with interesting factoids aplenty. Accessible and a nice step out from the hustle and bustle of London.
The best art gallery in the London, a lot of famous paintings in there.
Great collection to please all tastes, definitely worth a visit
Lots of fascinating things there. Its just too big for my likings!
Top! I learned a lot in the Gallery. The opening time on Friday is until quite late, so it is convenient for visiting. The way they showcase the artworks are really helpful for the normal public (no art background) to learn and appreciate the art pieces, the artworks are grouped into different time period. Really enjoy the visit. I have visited many times and never get bored. It is free entrance for all.
Various famous and art era's defining masterpieces, definitely worth visiting!
The entry fee is free.
Artworks inside are amazing and are all in really good condition, you can clearly see how much effort they spend to maintain it.
The entrance was free and it is worth to spend at least one hour even if you are not an art fan.
Beautifully presented in suitably spacious and elegant environments
A must see if you're in the area. Has the original Sunflowers by Van Gogh - much more stunning in real life than in any of the prints.
Fantastic place, one must visit if visiting London.
This is Britain's premiere art building. The gallery of the nation. It is literally pretty big too - its grand, pillared facade dominating the northern end of Trafalgar Square, only surpassed in height by Nelson's Column.
This is the permanent home to over two thousand paintings with features from all the big names. Although, as you might expect, it's very touristy.
I stop here even ply for few hours, enjoying few rooms of art and painting. A pleasure for the eyes, a gallery worth to see in different bites, according to your mood and time
We were feeling tired after a big day in the London shops. But a quick snack in the Gallery Cafe saw us restored for just the greatest art display. What masterpieces and what a range of art. Our 4 hours till closing time just weren't enough.
Simply loved it :) you need at least 3-4 hours to see
Wonderful Sorolla art exhibition but a bit short on communicating aboit the man himself
BP portraits but the staff let climate protesters in, had to queue for half an hour whilst the protesters pushed in
A brilliant collection spanning several centuries - and not only the art on display is amazing, the rooms are as well.
Didn t really manage to visit the art gallery inside due to timing constraints but looking outside of it,I m pretty sure it s a worth visit especially if you re a fan of arts. For sure, you ll enjoy it.
Normally they would have some events happening outside the gallery like this time
when we visited, Christmas theme. Down part of it is the Trafalgar Square.
Closest stations are Charing Cross and Leicester Square
I had fun even just outside of this gallery and took many photos. So yes, worth a visit.
Bestutiful art, free entry to the public. There were almost 30 Renaissance painting rooms (think Jesus painting) that can be skipped if you are interested in seeing more varied art. Stunning! Monet, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh are some of the more well know artist there.
Great Portraits. Bring British historical persons to life.
Amazing amazing experience! You need about three trips there to see all the paintings tbh.
Make sure you use the audio guide too!
The best gallery of art in the world. Much better than Louvre, Kunsthistorische, Metropolitan, Brera and Vatican Museums, even better than Hermitage and the Gallerie dell'Accademia. Fantastic!
A great permanent collection, including Van Gogh's Sunflowers. One of the best museum in Europe.
Great collection, but too many stupid people with smartphones, who only take mindless photos without contemplation. Morons.
Be prepared to be amazed by world famous artist and recognized by everybody paintings. Take your time. It's worth to spend at least 4 hours to see, read descriptions or listen to the audio describing the most of the pictures. You can rent an audio guide and walk from room to room immersing yourself in the art of painting. No wonder it's one of the best galleries in the world.
Go there midweek to avoid the rush.. Pop in to the cafe for a tea with a view, and get round the corner for a portrait gallery as well!
MY wife and I visited the National Gallery in August 2020 and really enjoyed it.
The COVID restrictions were well thought out, plenty of social distancing and hand sanitiser.
The gallery is huge. For us it was all about the 3 Caravaggio's. The road to Emmaus was amazing. and we recommend a visit. We had a great morning enjoying all the world class art.
Enormous gallery with many very famous works of art
The National Gallery is spectacular and worth half a day's visit to take it all in. From Monet's Waterlillies to Van Gogh's sunflowers, you'll find it all here.
One of my favourite galleries in London, I have enjoyed the permanent collections as well as many great temporary exhibitions in the Sainsbury wing.
I particular enjoy the last Friday openings where the public gets to wonder in, in a relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes, live music are performed, so one gets to enjoy walking through the entire gallery with music in the background. Just what you need for the end of the week.
A fantastic collection of paintings spread over 600 years. All the great masters. Well spread out lots of seats and some great special exhibits from Spain now going on
#NationalGallery is a wonderful place with a splendid art collection in the heart of London. And the best... is for free! I higly recommend.
I have learnt something amazing from this museum! As you can see, I took a picture of a painting with a skeleton head. The story goes that the painting was placed in such a way that everytime you d go down the stairs, you can see the skeleton coming out of the paining (as in the picture I took) it was a great experience for me and I was absolutely amazed by it.
Great gallery, especially if you can catch a quiet moment.
Great collection. Free admission. Well worth the time.
Superb Leonardo Exihbit! If you go in the right door. After a disappointing first try and me sending them a horrible email we visited today and really enjoyed the exhibit! Very Important tip enter through the Sainsbury wing main entrance. I really wanted to see "The Lost Leanardo" and despite it being very busy managed to view. I would have loved to see more of his sketches of the Human body and his engineering designs as per the Manchester exhibit however I get this is about his art. Anyone who tries to drive to central London is an idiot so I leave the parking option blank.
We were here for a narrated performance of Peter and the Wolf. We were pleasantly entertained in a highly appropriate environment. A pleasant afternoon of enlightenment.
Amazing gallery..Though I'm not a big fan of painting and arts, I quite liked many paintings from the gallery..The building's architecture is worth watching just amongst the other buildings of Trafalgar square..You can always enjoy some street art right outside the national gallery musuem..! For painting lovers this place is a must go-go..The details and information of the paintings are magnificent in it's work..!
My favourite place in London. Such great care and love to the paintings! The exhibitions they put together are priceless.
