Amazing artwork and on top of that; it's free to enter. I would highly recommend anyone who visits London to visit this place at least once in their life, if not more as they change their displays sometimes.

This is a must visit museum. One of the best in the world. Plan on many hours and do plan ahead by going to the website and using the map, decide on what you want to visit in advance otherwise, you will overwhelmed. Maybe visit over several days since the museum is free. There is a DaVinci gallery that is a must see. We concentrated our visit on the Impressionists area which is very impressive and well curated. There is lots of walking as the building is immense. Wear comfortable shoes and since there are lots of benches, take frequent rest stops.

The National Gallery is such a fantastic place to visit. First, it s location is in Trafalgar Square which is cool all on its own but then you walk inside and you are surrounded by rooms and rooms of some of the best artwork ever created. They have such friendly and helpful docents all over the building who are more than happy to help you find an art piece or discover something new. I highly recommend the baroque and impressionist sections.

I love this place. I can never get enough of it. It's free entry and there is a lot to see. Even if you know nothing about art, it's well worth going and looking at the famous paintings and culture. It can get pretty busy but it never feels too cramped. There is a little cafe there where you can get some food after the visit.

Great gallery, although you need a lot of time to look around it properly because it's huge. We spent almost 3 hours there and still didn't see everything. Although that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Personally, I prefer the Tate Britain which is better suited for a quick visit and has a more interesting layout that is easier to navigate. For a long visit though, the National Gallery is perhaps better.

It's interesting if you enjoy art. It's hard to tell many artists apart because it's all the same style. You have to really explore properly and spend all day to find the really interesting stuff. For a free attraction however it's great! A very educational look at the past. Keep an open mind and you'll enjoy yourself.

The National Gallery is a amazing art museum. It is easy to spend a whole day drifting between exhibits. My favourite paintings are those of Van Gogh. If your in London it sould definitely be on your top 10 thing to see.

Fabulous art. Expensive food but free to see the art! They have to make some money somewhere. Staff still friendly despite being so busy. You could spend a week there looking at all the art. Fantastic.

My favorite Gallery. You can see everything in one day! They have wonderful Italian, French and Flanders collections, and of course English as well. The paintings go from pre Renaissance to Impressionism.

If you start at the front just walk clockwise and you should see everything in mostly chronological order inside the national themes.

The Rembrandt collection is superb as it covers different phases of his work.

They also have good paintings by Turner, but Tate Britain has the more extensive collection of his works.

Do not miss the Monets and Van Goghs in the impressionist rooms.

The museum is free and they have a couple of lovely shops with curious itens and good books.

I absolutely loved it. The on-site guides are knowledgeable and kind. I appreciated how they suggested additional works of art based on my particular interests. It was well worth my time to visit. There is so much material on the free access floors, but I would gladly make a donation on a regular basis or pay for the special exhibits. The description of the paintings was much more robust and engaging than other museums I visited.

Feel like this went over my head a bit, but can't deny it's very impressive, just can't say I found it all that interesting compared to the V&A, but that's probably personal preference.

The National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery are free attractions, though they request a non-mandatory donation and special exhibitions are not included. (Tip: the special exhibitions will usually have a book with most paintings available in the gift shop so you can see ahead of time if you want to pay for entrance.)

I m giving 3 stars because the afternoon tea in the cafe wasn t good. At about 25 pounds, I expect more than just a few bland scones, cafeteria-style sandwiches, and a pot of tea. Pay more and go to Fortnum and Mason s or Harrod s high tea instead. (January 2018)

Like pictures of Jesus? If so, this is the place for you. If not, the National Gallery has one of the largest collections of medieval through early twentieth century paintings around.

Free admission, though they have a suggested donation and they sell guide books.

One of my dreams became true here. I saw Van Gogh's Sunflowers.
The National Gallery is free! Yes! The entrance is FREE! It was a little bit crowded (it was Sunday and raining heavily), but one could still enjoy the rich repertoire! I do absolutely recommend the gallery as one of "top things to do in London".

Breathtaking. My favourite Turners are here and I see the hare... Botticellis too... And my partner's favourite - Wright's Experiment on a bird in the air pump. A few Pre-Raphaelites and a bunch of Dutch masters to boot... An absolute must. I could spend a whole week here... I love Monet but I can't help blaming his generation for the mess that Art is currently in. Just do it!!!
