Modern, clean and a place to learn about how art can drive the human condition to strive for excellence.
Be aware of the very long line if you're going on a weekend!
Fantastic museum, so many beautiful pieces combined, and one time a week free but busy.
I love this place. My SUNY ID lets me get in for free. I love the courtyard they have. The fountains are nice to watch. Its a great quiet place in the middle of midtown so sit and relax. The art is always replaced with new great stuff.
Took a day off from work and spent it with my girlfriend. We started on the 5th floor (skipped the 6th, oops) and worked our way down. Beautiful art. Great staff. (No photos!! Lol). No but seriously, I had a good time and loved the variety MoMA has to offer. 5/5
I never really liked art museums. I simple never understood our was able to appreciate what was displayed. Here, I really felt like I was able to start appreciated the ideas these artists had!
Good for educational purposes and to enjoy the arts and history
Lovely art exhibits from famous artists. It can get too crowded on friday night tho.
Museum is worth a visit with children over the age of 12. Lots of people on holidays and weekends. Accessible place.
The art is obviously world class but the crowd is far to large. Admission should be timed or limited. At $25 or so per person you can hardly even see let alone enjoy the works with so many people standing 2 inches off the canvases. If they fixed this then 5 stars
Must see place in NYC. Rich with art from contemporary to impressionist.
In a single word: overrated. Maybe it's events are great and it definitely has some important works, but you won't be impressed with the European ones if you've been to Musee d'Orsay or to Rijksmueum, neither will find a great American collection there. Don't get me wrong, it's ok, but it feel short on my expectation.
WOW! this place is crazy, 6 floors stacked full of the wildest modern art in the world. Every museum in NYC has to offer a free entry session each week (hours/half day/evening) MoMA free sessions are at 6pm on Fridays, you just que up outside. well worth a visit, defo take lots of drugs & alcohol to fully understand some of the videos ! ahhaah
My favorite piece they have is "starry night". But they have a lot of other exhibits. I loved the information desks everywhere. I wasent in town for the exhibit on digital art. But that looks incredible!!
This place is a time machine for us technological human beings. Brings together an enigmatic collection of artwork from corners of the world I've only heard in tales. In my opinion, the art gets better the higher up you go. Was fortunate enough to have a few moments of solitude with The Starry Night...just wow.
This art museum in New York City was recently extensively enlarged and renovated. Previously, it was extremely crowded , so much so that you often could not get close enough to the art to look at it.
MOMA has also changed the way it presents art. Previously, art was displayed chronologically within general art types- e.g. impressionism, etc.
Its now being displayed within individual galleries with an overall theme.- e.g.abstract expressionism, design, etc. There are more mixing of say photography and sculpture as well as more less well known artists , women and minorities.
The presentation gives you a fuller picture than a chronological view does . The explanation by the art seems much better and there are ways to access explanations about the work from the internet on your phone and on audio devices they give out.
Go see Making Space: Women Artists and Postwar Abstraction! It's a great exhibit and closes August 13th.
I love that MoMA has curated such a diverse collection of docs and events for DOC Fortnight. This is my first time attending the International Festival of Nonfiction Film and Media. I applaud MoMA for celebrating storytellers from around the world and featuring so many unique perspectives.
Amazing architecture and great pieces of art. My favourite painters all in one museum :)
The Rausberger exhibit was extensive and truly a retrospective. Viewing the whole exhibit including written descriptions and explanations of his various methods and materials gives an observer a true sense of the artist's true nature!
A must see place when in Manhattan. So much to see, make sure you have at least 5 hours free to see all the beautiful things inside.
It's interesting, this museum has some of the most high profile, famous pieces of art ever created in a great gallery space. That said, this collection did not speak to me or my wife in the way that other collections, such as that of the Broad in LA does. Perhaps this is personal issue, and the reasons are hard to pin down. That said, this collection is a must see at least once.
Wonderful huge art museum, staff weren't friendly in the gallery or coat check in but the art was brilliant and categorised and displayed in interesting ways
If you're a fan of either modern and/or contemporary art, this is the place to go. Large building with plenty of businesses nearby for dinner after. Uniqlo sponsors free limited entry every Friday evening for the budget minded.
I enjoyed it but I expected a lot more from the museum. Wished I could have seen something mind blowing.
In previous years I've visited and had a great time. The art is, of course, exceptional. This last trip was less so. The line ups were ridiculous and the place was so crowded that you couldn't really see the pieces and when we visited the cafe there were so many people that many were sitting on the floor. I'm hoping that was a symptom of the holiday week and not just the way things are there now. Were there a crowd of that size the next time I tried to go I'd move on.
A tip, though, if you do want to go and it is crowded: pre-purchase your tickets or buy them through the web (even on your phone). You'll still have to line up for the coat check but you won't have to wait in line for tickets anyway which could save a ton of time.
One of the best museums of the world. Outstanding collection of European greats.
Amazing place to visit and learn about the history and development of contemporary arts and sculptures.
Never fails to astound. Always something interesting to see. The people watching is always good.
I love this Musseum! It's one of my favorites, .. You can see parenting from Van Gogh, Dali, Frida, Diego to name a few...
The young boys singing on rocks was weird but overall it was good
The Best, either getting a drink at the balcony with with live music,
food in the restaurants excellent, service superb.
Amazing place. Put this place on your 'need to see' list..
Personally don't find much of what is in the museum to be art. Expensive venue that I would not recommend unless you are a true art afficionado.
Free entry on friday's is great. I kinda felt like they didn't really showcase enough of the fancy modern pieces. I didn't like the map feature which was odd.
Overall I don't think I would pay for a ticket.
If you like Modern Art, this is the place for you. On Friday, you can get free access after 16:00.
Got a free ticket. Some fantastic modern art there.
One of the best museums in the world! I love their unique ways of displaying art in a way that makes it bigger than life! Great restaurants, too!
If you're into modern art, there is a good variety on display in the six floors that comprise this museum. Beware the subtle lines on the floor, though, or museum staff will promptly correct you for getting too close to items on display. During free admission times, as when we were there, the crowds can make the floor lines hard to notice. In several places where there isn't a line, it's advisable to imagine one anyway or risk being scolded (experience - not conjecture). A few areas are actually roped off, but that would be an upgrade worth making elsewhere to avoid continually confronting patrons.
Great place to visit. Make sure you have more than a couple of hours to spend here because the collection is huge. Also try to visit during a time with low tourism traffic. It's great to see the well know pieces of art and also discover new incredible artists.
I love going to MOMA. One of my favorite art museums in the world, the variety in the collection and the rotating exhibits I'd a whose who of the modern are world. MOMA is currently experiencing some construction work ai.ed at improving the guest experience, but at this time the enterance from 53rd is now closed, but the building is still accessible from the theatre enterance on 53rd street, to the right of the old enterance.
Please don't go on free Friday. You deserve to watch it in a good day without all the people around.
Fantastic place to visit - don't miss it if you're interested in art.
A very nice museum with impressive exhibits. If you're into modern art, this is the place to go. There's always something thought-provoking on offer. They also have programs and films occasionally as well, so it's worth keeping an eye out for those too.
My favorite place in New York. The collection here is unrivaled anywhere in the world. It's like opening up an Art History 101 textbook directly to the modern art section. Their exhibitions are always intriguing, both old favorites and lesser known artists. The sculpture garden is a lovely place to relax from the over-stimulation. And don't forget to check out the movie theater for old classics, foreign masterpieces, and obscure avant-garde film!
IT IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE HOW MANY FAMOUS WORKS OF ART ARE IN ONE MUSEUM. Completely blown away, was probably squealing nonstop for 2 hours. I would spend at least 3 here.
Columbia Students (and other partnered schools) get free entry!
Definitely a top museum to see in NY. Try to come without a jacket or backpack that you must coat check because that line is ridiculous. Overall, the modern art is so worth it! Enjoy!
Interesting. Half price a couple hours before close.
So glad we got here on our holiday. Some of the permenant collection pieces are exquisite, and the new technologies exhibit pushes boundaries into media I hadn't thought of as an art form before.
No line when I went just use the ticket kiosk, really big exhibit but near the end the pieces all seemed similar.
Love seeing what new and different at MOMA. Went early on saturday and viewed some of the collection galleries and Brazilian artist on view. I Liked!
Came here on a Friday at 4pm to get a free pass. I was initially discouraged by the line the length of an avenue. After waiting 2 minutes, I was not disappointed, the gates were opened and we all walked right in. The major drawback was the crowd besides that you get the full experience.
I left my heart here. I love the Egyptian section. You should get digital guide and try both adult and kid version. Will definitely be back!
One of the finest collections of Modern art in the world. Could definitely spend hours on the 5th floor alone, but there are some lovely temporary exhibits around the museum as well.
I couldn't believe how amazing this place was. So many paintings I love! It was super crowded tho, and hard to see the paintings because people kept taking selfies in front of them. The kids loved it too!
One of the greatest collections of modern art worldwide. Must see Picasso's, Dali among others. Plus the temporary exhibits are always interesting.
Lots of great art mixed with some that's not. The Picasso, Monet, Warhol was outstanding but then there is some stuff that just is more hype than art. Think the Met was better but this is definitely worth a visit despite the gormless walking in front of you and in to you all the time.
Great collection of some thoughtful urban art. Was there in time for the Yoko Ono special exhibit, which was presented in an interactive style. Very interesting stuff in here.
My family and I were visiting NY for a week and we decided to go to the MOMA. This establishment was very clean, but it had an unorganized layout. There were no signs directing us to what each room consists us, therefore it was confusing. Overall, it is gorgeous and I recommend MOMA.
Loved the paintings by Mark rothko and Jackson Pollock. Good exhibits by Picasso and Monet.
One of my favorite museums. They always have new and great exhibits (check website). It can get crowded during peak times so be warned.
You re obviously going to go and you don t need me to tell you to go. But I ll tell you anyway...go!!! Spend HOURS. You can t escape it.
It was amazing!! I saw so many of my favorite artists work there! It was really moving!
As a lover of modern art I always make time for this place. The new exhibition of Russian Avant-garde is a must see.
This is another very NYC icon! I went during the week at Noon. They did a great job of making sure they checked your temperature, wearing appropriate masks and provided sanitizer. It was very quiet but I noticed it started to get busy in the afternoon. There is nowhere to eat inside. Maybe why people were not there at that time. This is a wonderful museum for modern art! Tons of artwork to enjoy! I highly recommend this place when visiting or for locals! It s free for the month of September!
Great place. Good food. Fast, but excellent. Very good service
At 25% capacity and the new galleries it feels like you have all the space in the world to yourself.
Really crowded, you'd appreciate the pieces much better if there was less people around.
Great museum to visit. I can't believe I saw Vincent van Gogh's "The Starry Sky" while I was here. It was surreal. There is a mini MUJI section inside the gift shop. You can also purchase miniature prints on magnets of some of their most famous pieces.
Interesting place; but I wouldn t recommend it. Look for the traditional museums, and after these, you can go there.
Wonderful venue, great art collection. You could spend a day in each section. There is simply to much to see and appreciate in 1 day. Will have to visit again and again!
Nice comfortable place but it's not good to drive very expensive parking lot area and is no parking
You need to set aside some time to visit this world class modern art museum. It houses some of the most iconic art pieces. Not to be missed! Spent one afternoon here and I can't get enough!
Excellent museum! A great variety of exhibits. Mostly, but not only, modern art. A great shop at exit.
Except it is difficult for me to understand about modern art, it is good place for new yoker and tourists
Starry Night by Van Gogh is displayed on Level 5. The Level 6 is not currently open as of February 2020. The 'oldest' art starts at the 5th floor and as you descend the building the art gets more and more contemporary. There is a range of different types of modern art here, very good place to visit even if art is not a big interest of yours. Easy to navigate if you don't have much time and only want to visit specific exhibitions.
Must see museum if you are in modern art. The special exhibits are very good as a rule. Audio guide is free with the adimission. NYC ID card gives one a free admission. That's probably how locals are given a break when visiting NY cultural institutions - tourists are supposed to take the brunt of hefty entrance fees.
Was fun to walk around with my fiance. She's really I to art. I just can't understand why some "art" gets put up when it looks like it was done by a toddler.
The best experience! Go visit! Lot of value for $25. Educational experience, fit for all ages.
This place is a must if you are visiting New York. My kids have fun in the children section located in the first floor. The The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh is amazing. You could enjoy different artist and new technology trend. You have meter parking in front of the museum starting at 6PM for regular vehicles.
It's a beautiful space with so much to see. So many different kinds of art and artists on display. A must go for any visitor or even resident of NYC.
Worst experience in here. We bought coffee in cafe and went outside and when we come back, they are saying that drink is not arrowed. They were selling drinks and not with their drinks! They should sell the drinks if the want to keep this policy!!!
Nothing special and super interesting very difficult to say - it s the art
This is a wonderful museum that has a wide selection of modern art, from Van Gogh to Picasso to Kandinsky to Mondrian to really recent, timely art. They do a great job of contextualizing the art, making it easier to appreciate even abstract pieces.
A great experience, you need more than a day to enjoy it fully.
