Too many rules to be a nice place to visit. Some interesting art and some awful art.
Too many rules to be a nice place to visit. Some interesting art and some awful art.
Not my favorite, but important place to visit in New York
Absolutely brilliant. We hit up the 5th floor collection first for a blast of modern art - all the hits from Monet through to Warhol - and amazing to be amongst them. (nitpick - sometimes MoMA doesn't have the greatest examples of all these artists works).
Went to two special exhibitions next: Japanese architecture and Degas. Both were deep, well constructed with great explanations / story telling to help me. I ran out of time during Degas - simply too much to see.
The fact that kids under 16 are free, makes going there as a family a much more attractive proposition.
GO!
tip: take a tote not backpack if you want to carry stuff; people knock into things more with backpacks on. A free bag check is available
tip: don't forget to visit the outside sculpture garden on the ground floor.
Unless you like this 'Art' don't go there. I liked only 2 or 3 items which were not 'modern'. All 'Modern' art is mostly pretentious crap.
Loved it. I mainly went to see the paintings. And oh my, was it amazing!
They have a grand collection of some of the best paintings Dali, van Gogh, braque, magritte, Monet, you name it.
Do take the audio guide they provide for free, else visit there website from your mobile and enter audio number written next to many art works.
I was however dissatisfied because a lot of paintings didn't have audio guide. I am not an art connoisseur, so I rely on these guides to give me a certain appreciation for the works. Plus some audio guides need to be expanded. Most were limited to 2 or 3 minutes. I would rather like to have longer guides. To sit, listen, and absorb one painting at a time. It is not about how many paintings you see, but it's how many paintings you really understand, the way it's artist meant for the audience to understand.
They also have a section on Industrial design where they have catalogued items which exemplify great design. Ranging from television sets, telephones, cars, to even chairs.
I would suggest that you go there when you have some time at your hand. Don't rush. The ticket cost was 25$, but they allow free entry between 4 to 6 on Fridays. On Fridays the museum stays open till late - 9 PM.
They have a nice souvenir shop. Some items are exorbitantly priced, yet there are many at reasonable prices.
They also have a similar shop across the street from the museum, I don't know if they sell the same stuff.
Good experience even for people who are not so much into art stuff. This was my 2nd visit to MoMa and the last one was 5 star visit as this one was 'only' 4 stars... Current exhibitions are ok and best stuff was in 5th floor....
I love the 5th floor. It has paintings from big artists.
One of the best museums I've been to. They have a great collection.
The museum is as great as I remember. The renovations look fantastic. I was a bit disappointed that I could only find 3 Cezanne paintings but everything else was so good I couldn't be too upset.
Always packed, so try to go early if you want an "intimate" experience in the galleries. Price is $25
A wonderful place to visit to see many of the paintings you've only ever seen pictures of. Not the greatest collection I've ever viewed, but an enjoyable museum to spend a day at.
An iconic museum in NYC that is not to be missed. Wonderful large galleries, magnificent holdings, cafes, interesting food choices, and an outdoor sculpture garden, and two gift shops with many interesting books and gift items. The museum also shows classic movies.
always a great place to go. make sure to apply for an IDNYC if you can, because it ll get you a free membership at MoMA for a year!
Very elegant much like me. Only if trump tower wasn't blocking the view
As often happens, one goes for a popular exhibition and gets a bonus with a serendipitous display also on view. Yesterday we came to see the works of Charles White, and discovered Yugoslavian concrete architecture of the 20th century. Admission is relatively pricey, membership defrays the cost if you visit more than a few times a year. The Union Square group runs the cafeteria and restaurant, and the food is healthy, creative and delicious, a far cry from the hotdogs and chips in the dark ages of the culinary past. Prices moderate by new York standards. The gift shop and design stores are overpriced for utilitarian standards, but your cheese grater, coasters, glasses, and such will be works of art.
Inside is great, worth to spend time, however looking outside is also interesting
This was my first time ever visiting the MoMA and I loved it. Such a good museum with remarkable pieces of art, and it's incredible just how many pieces they have. This is probably my favorite museum I have visited yet.
Wow, what an amazing collection of art. Stunning photography, famous paintings and artists, and an unusual display of architecture drawings from Serbia and Croatia. A moving display about race, racism and inequality. Art to move you and make you think. Art to spark your imagination and creativity. Art to draw you in and surprise you. This is a place for all to experience life through art. Spend the day or just a few hours...it will be well worth your time.
The exhibit "Is fashion modern? " should have devoted more space to men's fashion.
Too bad the sculpture garden was under going renovation.
The Museum of Modern Art is one of the most spectacular art museums in the world. There are 6 floors. We spent most of our time on floor 5, which has many amazing paintings from the last 200 years, including Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. Floor 6 is for special exhibitions, but unfortunately it is currently off limits in preparation for the next exhibition. One day is not enough to really appreciate the whole museum. Based on our visit, we would have needed at least 2 days to give respectful time to each floor, but we just had 1 day and spent almost all of it on a single floor. We zipped through the other 4 floors to get a taste, including trying the VR experience of the model city of the future, which was worth the 15 minute wait at the time. I hope you visit and I'm sure you will enjoy your time there :)
I love this place so much, definitely will always come back to it.
The museum itself has a variety of art and displays. I will always recommend a visit to anyone who likes museums.
I was star struck with all the different works of artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, Pollock... the works were curated well and there was a good flow within the museum.
Prepare to spend a few days here and get blown away by the breadth of civilization on display. Choose what exhibits you want to see and don't rush through it. It's worth getting the self-guided device and listen at your own pace.
Amazing place to see variety of arts. It can get crowded but worth the wait.
Came here on a date and had a great time. They had some beautiful exhibits and the staff were very knowledgeable about all of it. This is a must see no doubt.
DO NOT go on Free Friday (4-8pm).... just jammed. No fun.
This was good. I spent pretty much two days here and didn't see ALL of it. One thing to note, which I wasn't aware of: a ticket to the Metropolitan Museum of Art is the same price but is good for 3 days and 3 locations. If you're planning a trip to NY.... :)
Picasso, Matisse, Monet, Pollack all under one roof and an interactive exhibit - great intro for my 13 year old niece. Took us 3 hours to visit all exhibits and the gift shops.
The layout was very friendly and one can go from one gallery to the next seamlessly.
One of the best modern art museums in the world hands down. There is nothing more thrilling to art lovers than to be able to see iconic paintings that you have seen in print for many years up close and the originals. That was the experience in standing two feet from Van Gogh's Starry Night or Picasso's Avignon. The same for works by Matisse, Chagall, Pollack and many more. The exhibit halls are very spacious so there is never a crowded feeling despite the large number of viewers. You are able to get up close as well as stand back and take in these historic works of art. The museum has current exhibits continuously changing over so call ahead or look at their website to see whats on. The large wooden sculptures are also very interesting and the bench by the window where these statues are offers a view of the garden where I spotted another famous Picasso statue of the goat. The museum has the usual cafe and gift shop as do most museums. The gift shop/library as I call it has a great selection of books and posters. Located in mid town Manhattan a short walk from Central Park, 5th Avenue or Times Square. A must see for art lovers.
One of our must visi list in NY! My daughter is quite the an artsy herself.. she really enjoyed being here and getting a lifetime chance of seeing some of worlds best arts. It s such an inspirational journey for us all
MoMa has a unique collection of painting, sculptures and exhibits. These collection is updated periodically. The exhibit are meant to inspire a full spectrum of emotions: From confusion to anger to joy. MoMa offers something for everyone. If you are a student, you can get a discount on tickets. On Fridays, the museum is open to everyone for free, come early for easy entry
Always inspiring. Newly purchased (2019) Tarsila do Amaral now on display.
Number of world class modern art pictures and painting. Must visit if you're into modern art!
Definitely a must see.
Price is very fair for a museum of this quality, unique paintings you just get lost with so much to see.
The only downside of this museum is its physical space and how much overcrowded it gets, specially if its raining outside. Too many people and your enjoyment of these artworks gets more difficult.
Staff very helpful and practical.
This extremely "rich" museum makes art accessible while involving the visitors interactively.
Amazing museum! be sure to plan ahead because the lines to get in are crazy, but totally worth it
Went there for the Uniqloo Free Fridays. Museum exhibits are good. However it was too crowded to really enjoy the exhibits. Probably more worth it to pay admission to appreciate the art
Decided to do the early morning private tour, definitely worth it. Extremely knowledgeable staff and beautiful pieces to admire without the added frenzy of plenty of people around.
Amazing mseum. Recommend looking for the Andy warhol.
Great to see modern classics again. Expanded space now hosts post modern and more recent art pieces.
Beautiful, spacious building; great little restaurant. But collection itself not overly impressive.
The best attraction in NY. Excellent exhibitions set in a nice and functional venue
Mind blowing collection of modern art. Definitely worth a visit regardless of your artistic taste
I actually go here every year and I enjoy it every time! Last time I was there, there was live poetry. As crowded as it gets, the galleries are always easy to filter through.
Loved this, comparable to the tate modern in London in scale and content. This wins for the artist, Tate modern wins for location and architecture
Went to the Bar at MOMA for dinner. Enjoyed the ambiance of the bar, restaurant and the food were delicious. The bartender and staff were very nice and would make you feel comfortable. Would go back again for food or a date.
Best art of all ages. Can't visit the city without going here.
Multiple levels with each individual level offering 1 - 2 exhibits. The exhibits have a good range of artistic styles and types from paintings to sculptures to installations to dioramas. It can get quite busy but it s well worth a visit. Make sure you give yourself about 3 hours to ensure you have enough time to enjoy all the exhibits as time passes quickly once your looking around and enjoying the offerings.
A place for modern day artist with revolutionary Ideas and unlimited creativity. LOVE MMA
Even though I was visiting during the halfway-house period while the renovation is front of mind, the collection, and the sculpture garden are still incredible. Only the Tate comes close.
Maybe there were too many people. Maybe I just don't understand it. Just didn't find it as interesting as I expected.
Fantastic collection and I only had time for the 5th floor! Excellent lunch in 5th floor cafe overlooking sculpture garden.
Nice selection of modern art pieces. Really recommend the "energy" section on ground floor and the last floor famous pieces.
Iconic. Must go. Always something interesting to see. Just wish the admission price was reasonable.
Because of wonderful collection and hospitality of the staffs
One of the best museums in town, especially after the recent renovation.
Not a bad price for a great showcase of famous paintings.
6th floor for regular viewer and 4th 5th for tourists
One of the best art museums that I ve been to. Highly recommend. If possible, try to make it here on a Friday from 4p-8p for free entry. They also offer reduced ticket prices at other times with a student i.d.
Underwhelming. Staff had very limited knowledge of exhibit locations. Difficult to navigate at times. Hands-on creation area was fun. Some exhibits were definitely worth seeing, but many looked extremely amateurish. For $50 a ticket, I had expected the art to be more progressive and impactful. Definitely would take a full day or two to see it all. Friendly staff.
Such an incredible museum with an amazing collection of art that speaks to so many various tastes!!
The sculpture garden is a NYC classic. Otherwise, check carefully what is on display before you go because it can vary widely.
Awesome museum! There is a lot of new art pieces from a broad range of authors. One of the highlights of my trip to NYC. Consider at least 3 hours to enjoy!
Great exhibit. Many many masterpieces under one roof.
Very crowded, people are everywhere, you can't really appreciate the art. Most people are just taking photos of all the famous paintings. On the plus side, very famous paintings and art are here. Still a must see.
Free on Fridays after 4pm, but very crowded. Still loved it. Get the guided tour.
Make sure you to devote a few hours to this, it's worth it. You can listen to artists, curators, and others speak about the Museum's collection and special exhibitions using your cell phone and headphones or one of the devices you can borrow from the museum. I thought that was pretty neat and enhanced the experience.
Beautiful and grand. If you have any inkling to see a premier place showcasing art of varying types and timelines, this is the place!
We ate at rhe Cafe on the fifth floor and while the food was very good, it was our server who made this a truly memorable experience. The food was tasty and beautifully served and the woman who served us was warm and solicitous and elevated a good meal to a great one.
Museum is among the best the city has to offer to both natives and visitors
Special exhibition was awesome and splendid. Here you can explore painting, sculpture, good design, and installation art. Especially plz must not miss design shop, or you will miss a lot of interesting items.
Love this museum! Don't forget your student iD for the discount.
Good for couples and kids. The little sweet treats along the way are great but the actual fun is just the last part with the ball pit.
For me this place is precious and like a second home! I love art a lot and here you can basically get lost as it s too much too see there and then you need time to analyze/interpret pieces...highly recommend you for visiting if you love paintings and modern art.
Must try for tourists. Always great to pop in for a visit from time to time
Good modern art. Pretty crowded on the day before New Year's Eve day. Pro tip: get there right when they open and buy your tickets on your phone so you can skip the line. Bag/coat check is free!
My daughter made me go. Loved it. We had a great time. Some fantastic art (maybe not the peanuts one though). Had a coffee on the restaurant with the balcony while we planned our visit - loved the atmosphere. Some lady even came over and asked me was I famous.
I wish I had more time to have been able to spend there
Amazing place, the store is cheaper than other one in the museums of the city.
This place is simply awesome. I came in here on a boiling hot day and enjoyed the relaxed cool atmosphere while wandering the building observing the art and the people. The facilities are excellent.
