too modern for me, but there are also some nice, old paintings like Monet
Hesitant upon entry, worried i wasn't going to enjoy, then realized i wanted to stay longer than my party. So engaging and fun. Van Gogh, Piccas0, and pollack and so many more.
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. You can see many paintings by famous artists and also sculptures, the furniture, the graphics... You can admire many works by famous artists in the history of art. Here you can see famous "The Starry Night" from Vincent van Gogh. Beautiful.
Disappointing disastrous experience. Overcrowded to the point of being a danger to safety and health, let alone enjoyment. Perhaps a daily/hourly quota should be placed on how many people are allowed in to ensure that guests can truly enjoy the beautiful pieces of art. Spent the whole time just moving painfully slowly from room to room, elbow to elbow, unable to actually see anything. The entire experience was just claustrophobically horrible.
I went there for an assignment but I will definitely go back. There are many interesting things in there I need to see. Probably have to plan a whole day to see everything.
This happened in the winter of 2012 but I will never forget it. Hence, am posting this public review now. I had my cash STOLEN by a MoMA museum bag-check & storage staff. He literally took $260 worth of notes from my bag and when I reported to the manager, he denied it and the manager believed him. He even tried to zip up my bag (poorly) to make it seem like nothing was stolen. Filed a report with the NYPD who did absolutely NOTHING.
So... if you have a tall, big-boned, bald light-skinned Mexican guy (no glasses, has some facial hair) as your bag-check & storage staff. Beware, he is a thief, he will steal your cash and he deserves to be fired. I will never return to this museum ever again (and also rarely ever carry cash ever again).
It is 2019 and I still remember it. NYPD did nothing for 7 years.
Never go there on a Friday evening. Absolutely horrid due to the crazy amount of tourists. I didn't know there's free entry on Friday evenings which completely ruined my experience.
Beautiful museum with a lot of pieces. Multiple visits are recommended to see it all, but if you'll still enjoy yourself with one. A tonne of famous pieces are here. Make sure you don't miss out on Starry night
Friday nights are free but overcrowded. If you do go on Friday I recommend getting there asap and starting from the last floor.
Great art, the pictures are those you see in the art appreciation text books, hard to believe you really seeing them in person. We went there when raining, you would think good activity for rainy day, but so did everyone else. Hard to navigate and fully appreciate, when so overwhelmed by the crowd. Thankfully MOMA adding more space. Wonderful museum.
Amazing and well worth the wait every single time. Even when it's crowded.
Great museum. If you are planning to go, make sure to see Starry Night on the 5th floor.
One of my favourite museums in the world. Entry is relatively expensive - but given the great collection on offer this does seem reasonable.
Free Friday nights (4pm - 8pm), thanks to UNIQLO!
Loved the exhibits, and there are some hidden gems here! Warhol, Van Gogh, and Dali pieces are some of the most famous.
Great place to explore and see art. We only saw two floors. Definitely will come back here to visit other floors when we come to NYC. You could spend hours in there and still not see everything. Plan for a couple days just for this museum alone. I highly recommend putting this place on your list of places to see in NYC.
Disclosure: I am a present volunteer at MoMA. They are currently looking for & interviewing for more volunteers.
Pluses: There are many beautiful spaces to explore at our newly expanded museum. Curators have created alcoves of seating areas. The Creativity Lab is a lot of fun for both teens & adults. We have the cute Art Lab for little ones. There is drop-in drawing every Friday 6 pm-8 pm with all supplies provided. The MoMA ticket allows you to see 1 film for free that is playing the same day as your visit.
Amazing place. Must visit if you are interested abstract art
Charles White exhibit is the best I have ever seen!
You're not allowed to carry a backpack. You have to give all of your stuff to someone to hold. It's very crowded. There is 6 floors of stuff to see.
There are amazng art works in this museum. Like Van Gogh and Picasso an Dali. I really enjoyed my time at this museum!
Has been a favorite for 50 years! One of few museums that exhibits fiber art. Just disappointed it's so expensive.
Wonderful art; very friendly and knowledgeable staff
A great museum where you can experience and enjoy art from the second half of the 20th century and some classics as well.
A lovely museum to visit in NYC if you have extra time.
Free visit on Friday s is a great way to visit this museum. A bit busy though.
This is a very interesting museum on many floors that has modern art. Picasso and Van Gogh are examples of some of the paintings you can find on the 4th floor and this is a great place for a rainy day in New York.
Simply excellent stil top ten in the world compared to similar art museums. N.Y. has to offer a lot high quality products moma is one of these a must have (to see).
"Classic" works of Picasso, Monet are must watch. Post-Modern work was not as rivetting. But give it a century or two and may be...
Great collection! A pleasant place to spend a day in N.Y.
Good place.
Location is very good and there is many places where I take a rwst.
Best museum in NY. Very interesting place. You will see a lot of art there.
Incredible museum with some of the most impressive art ever made. If the line is long at the entrance, try ordering tickets online and skip the line.
Always a nice place to visit while in the city. I love that they have their free Friday evenings but it does get super packed. Rather than waiting in line for the opening at 4, I like to wait until 4:30-5pm to head over so there's not so bad a wait in line if any and that still gives you plenty of time to see everything.
The best choice for culture in a rainy Sunday in Manhattan.
Outstanding place!!! Saw Starry Night for the first time!!! And loads of Picassos and Monets and Pollocks. Absolutely wonderful!!! Food for my soul!!!
Would have loved to have more time here. Such an interesting place to visit!
Large and interesting exposition. Many world-known masterpieces. Take your time to quietly walk among the exibits.
What a wonderful experience to explore so many incredible paintings and installations. I will come here any chance I have.
Great works of art from Van Gogh, Matisse etc. Amazing place.
Interesting pieces but the metropolitan museum of art is better.
I mean, it's THE MOMA. The only problem you'll have is refraining from staying all day. I got to see my favorite painting ("Christina's World" by Andrew Wyeth) and almost cried.
Very well-structured and -organized. Overwhelming because there's a lot to see, not because it's confusing to get around.
SPECTACULAR............but they moved my pictures when they re-built the building. It used to be intimate. Now it's large and cold and filled with people........so I guess it's a success. But for those of us who lived here in the 50's and 60's, it's a big change.
A wonderful place to view the works of and gain knowledge about visionary artists of our time. I visited the Charles White retrospective recently, a collection of the works of this black communist artist, politically active from the 1930s to the 1970s, which was thought-provoking and inspirational.
Amazing place. Had the opportunity to see a good amount of famous works while there. Had lunch in one of the cafes, was delicious!
We have visited NYC over a dozen times. With each visit, we spend time at Moma and the Met Museum. Moma is great and I will not go over the myriad of reasons as many others have gone through the same reasons why I like Moma.
In addition to the exhibitions, we love the Moma design store across the street and the main Moma store. They sell a lot of interesting items based on good design. We have purchased many items there over the years. This year we purchased Jackson Pollock mugs, placemats and a table runner. I am not a great fan of the artist but have to say that his stuff works well with mugs and place mats : )
Free entry after 4 on some Fridays. So crowded it was impossible to enjoy the at or the experience. Probably rate higher if I go back and can actually see the art.
Amazing! Saw some iconic pieces of art I didn't expect to find here.
It pains me to say it but MoMA is a tourist trap. My mother had been dying to go for decades and so it was supposed to be a wish come true. We thought we were going to beat the crowds by coming on a Tuesday afternoon -- no such luck. We were so crowded in there that you basically were forced into a dystopian conga line shuffle past each work with barely any time to glance at it before you were being pushed aside by someone else. Maybe it's better when it's not May, or if you pay to become a member and get to access the special Member's hours -- but it was seriously not worth the high cost of admission if you're a tourist visiting for the day.
This was my first visit to MoMA. I enjoyed it. It has an impressive collection of great art! Very Nice!
Saw some famous pieces from Picasso to Pollack to Mondrian. Was a bit bummed when I went because half the exhibits were closed. Wanted to grab a bit from the cafe but it was too crowded.
We premiered our film Return to Return to Nuke Em High here in 2012.. accepted into the contenders series it was sold out with standing room only. The staff was very helpful and the venue is beautiful with a massive screen. One of the favorite spots on our list that we saw our premiere. Thank you MOMA for having us!!
Very aggressive guard. I did not realize I had stepped a cross the line on the floor. A guard shouted at me from across the room. It was embarrassing, and ruined the entire visit for me. Ironically, soon afterwards, I observed two ladies stepping over the line and the same guard walked over and very quietly talked to them.
exactly as amazing as youd expecting to be. no lover of art could justify passing up this experience. especially because you can pay however much you want! a young art-lover's paradise.
Excellent displays. Be sure to have money if you plan on eating at their cafes. A bit pricey, but good.
I've went here during 2017, and they were very rude, the structure outside the museum was very crowded, and the guards did ABSOLUTELY nothing. You are not able to touch any art in any form at all. I can give this 0 stars if I could!1( *)
Worth the price of admission, very nice building, some iconic pieces, and a cool store as well.
Very welcoming environment with so many creative art pieces to ponder-on. The gift shop is lovely as well- I wanted to buy everything!
I am not fan the art
Many people
Is noisy
Is a mess
I could't watch because many people
Is ok
If you love art you will love the MoMA. From Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Miro (and many more) to Design Classics like Eames furniture or the lovely Fiat500: MoMA has it all. You can easily spend half a day there.
Why not a five star rating? Two floors where closed for maintenance, also the book store, which was now part of the museum store. It was (partly) overcrowded so that it was nearly impossible to watch the art without someone stumbling into you. Visitors are busy taking pictures and selfies in front of the art, instead of enjoying it. If you don t want to wait in the ticket queue - use the self check-in counter, where you can buy your tickets easily.
Whilst the Guggenheim has the show stealing architecture thanks to Frank Lloyd Wright; MOMA has the art.
Great collections of art and nice exhibitions. We like to see films as well.
This is a one in a lifetime place you can't miss if you're in NYC or love modern and abstract art. You'll be blown away by such inspiration creations from authors all over the work. Make sure you check on their website for special exhibitions. You have to go.
One of the best museums in NYC. On friday @ 6 p.m. is free entrance.
Came here on a date and it turned out to be wonderful experience. Saw so many beautiful pieces and learned a great deal.
I went on an iltra busy Friday evening and found the employees there pleasant and helpful. Even being very crowded, it was clean and well lit. The bathroom (the one I used) was also clean and well stocked. I'm looking forwarded to going back some day soon!
Incredible collection on display right now from the famous Van Gogh Starry Night, Frida, Picasso, Monet, Warhol, Salvador Dahi, and more. It was as if walking through every art history book ever written.
Best advice is to start from top and drink up before entering
Went on a Friday during free hours. I've been a van Gogh fan my whole life. Starry night made me cry.
Great for culture & perspective. These pictures don't do it justice
(This is just me...) Except Van Gogh, most of the so-called art are sooooo pretentious and self-centered. It s not only super hard to comprehend what the fxxk the author trying to express, but also super NOT enjoyable. It totally worth a while to take look at Van Gogh, but for the rest part... not so much.
Great art, but be prepared to share your experience with so many people you will feel like you are in the subway at rush hour. Could not navigate a single room or see the art comfortably without being shoulder to shoulder and several people deep. Was such a disappointment that admission was not limited so you could enjoy the art. My suggestion, go to a lesser known museum in NYC and skip MoMA.
They have some fantastic exhibitions on at the moment. I thought value for money was great, and all the staff I interacted with were lovely.
5th floor has amazing art by the old masters like Van Gogh , Henri Rousseau,Miro
Fifth floor is like a greatest hits of Modern art with a carefully curated sampling of a massive collection of masterpieces. A great privilege to be able to see them close up. The Max Ernst featured exhibit was an utter revelation of surreal beauty. Highlights from permanent collection for my tastes: Dali, Kahlo, van Gogh,
Miro, Wythe, Magrite ...images we ve all seen, but to see live and up close is flabbergasting. The store is very interesting and good locale to buy hip gifts.
Visited on a Fri with an art major. Had a great time even though modern art is not our fav.
I love taking a walk through the interesting gift shop..... .
Need I say anything, it's the MoMA! And Friday evenings are free. Get to the MoMA!
Absolutely no walking room. We left. Not their fault but it was so crowded they would be no chance we would be able to see anything.
Nice paintings and great background for profile pics
Incredible and mesmerizing. You will not want to leave!
This was an amazing museum full of extrnsive artwork spanning many different art movements. There's something here for everyone! The spaces were nicely set out and the Picabia collection was full of descriptions and very interesting! Would definitely recommend. Also, if you're planning on going on a Friday night 4-8pm, it's free admission but incredibly crowded. That definitely annoyed me and I would've gone earlier that day and paid
Admission is a little pricey but there's some great modern art on view here! Not all of it may be to your tastes but you had to admire classics like Picasso and Monet. Free on Friday's after 4pm!
What is there to say about this museum that hasn t already been said? One of the most incredible collections of modern art in the world, you are bound to see a piece by artist you appreciate. The collection is so vast you will need to donate several hours to get a good grasp on everything there. This is obviously a must see if you enjoy art.
Great master pieces of modern art from painters like Van Gogh, Pollock, Monet and others. Also great temporary expositions. You need 3 or 4 hours to go through the 5 floors.
Do you like modern art, do you like Van Gogh, do you like Pablo Picasso and many more?
When you are visiting NY, you must visit MOMA, do not forget to check for guided tours...
1/3 of exhibits were closed on our visit :/ more than advertised What was open was great!
Great collection, spacious, mid-town NYC. Monet and Van Gogh remain impressive when yo
u see them for real.
Cool museum. Lay out was a bit confusing and got lost a few times. Otherwise, great experience.
Hated it. Totally uninspired. Cold... as nd i don't mean temper as ture. Six of bn us were very disapointed. Left early
MOMA is slowly moving their collections away one by one because it s closing soon. Very excited to see those artworks back when they reopen on October.
