When I arrived at the melrose the lady at the desk was not very friendly which is odd because all the reviews I read said they were very pleasant.

I had to wait about 30 minutes after my check in time for my room, and when I finally arrived at my room we were very disapointed to find they had given us a disability room. No bath shower, two full beds even though I had came with my girlfriend clearly when I checked in. (Also reserved the room stating 2 guests)

I called down and asked for them to switch my room and they said there was nothing they could do even though I had booked earlier in the week.

Just not a very good experience at the melrose, I would check for other options next time as I visit DC a lot.

Great place, but the taxes and fees are extraordinary. Booked it for 120 per night, but with hotel fees, destination fees, room tax, parking tax and hotel fee it came to 265.77. No wonder people are using Airbnb.

We had a great family stay at The Melrose in DC, the employees were all very nice and accommodating, the room was top notch and we experienced absolutely no problems on any level. I would recommend this hotel.

Let's say that the expectations were a little bigger.
Food was nothing special.
Personnel, although extremely kind and willing to help, acted little bit confused.

Everything else was fine, especially spaces very clean and comfortable.

Internet access requires payment. An independent access service will be blocked.
Two computers are available in the lobby but used by many including staff.

Plumbing needs attention. Bath tub needs replacement in 317.
Toilet in some rooms adjacent, above or below 317 has a leak thus water runs for 3 seconds every 8 seconds---all through the night. I did report but no acknowledgment of the report recieved.

Big room, quiet, well located and clean! The only issue was the horrible founding fathers decorations all over the place. Just put mirrors and make it look classy. Otherwise, great deal. Would completely recommend.

Great location! Walking distance to Georgetown and George Washington University!
The room was spacious and well decorated!
The breakfast at the restaurant was very good and the waiters are very helpful. The parking is a little pricey, there are other less expensive options within walking distance of the hotel.
The staff is very friendly and we're quick to repair or toilet!

I loved the hotel s decor to be really beautiful. Very modern, with a nice mix of comfort and elegance. It was totally my personal decor style all the way. Beautiful use of colors, textures, and smells. The lobby smelled like heaven every time you walked in it. That was best welcome! The staff was super sweet, and I really appreciate Kai (spelling), the supervisor, for being so accommodating, and very pleasant. All the ladies at the front desk, were also very lovely. The rooms were large, very clean, and the Molton Brown bath products were my favorite. The bed was so comfy, and sometimes very hard to get out of :) Thanks for a great stay, we will definitely be back.

If you re a non-corporate traveler, be prepared to be thrown under the bus

I had a business reservation for myself and my wife, and my wife (who is Asian) had a reservation for her parents who were visiting the U.S. for the first time from Asia. They are in their 70's and don t speak English. When we checked in around 6 PM, we were informed by the night manager that my wife s reservation for the room for her parents had been canceled, because an international delegation was staying an extra day and there was no room for my wife s parents. We were informed that my wife s parents, who speak no English and had been in the U.S. for less than a week, would have to stay at some hotel half a mile down the street, separated from us.

The night manager was poorly trained, and the situation got rather ugly, with raised voices, but the night manager was adamant that there was no room for my wife s parents in the hotel, although we had made the reservation several weeks previously. Having my parents-in-law half a mile down the street was completely unacceptable, so they ended up sleeping in our room.

It was clear the Melrose Hotel was quite willing to dump an individual guest to cater to a corporate client, who can provide them with more business. My family and I will NEVER stay there again.

I have stayed twice in this hotel during the last 6 months. After my last stay I'll look for something else the next time I visit DC.

The overall impression is fairly big rooms with the amenities you expect, but somewhat worn and a service that is unreliable. Had to ask several times and control that my requests had been taken care of.

Also strange that the hotel is unable to accommodate breakfast earlier than 0630. This is commonplace in most European hotels I've stayed in, especially considering many business travelers have early meetings or flights.

Another bad experience was that a washing room was set up next to rooms, with washing machines running throughout the night and disturbing sleep. I asked the staff to refrain from running the machines at night. That worked for one night but they were back on the next.

Pros:
Spacious rooms
Comfortable beds (not too hard)
Friendly staff
Good location

Cons:
Unreliable and in some respects inflexible service
Poor communication from staff, mixed messages
Loud lobby, want to have a good conversation/casual meeting? Forget it
Poor room planning, stay away from bottom floor if you don't want washing machines disturbing your sleep and a view of the hotel's garbage disposal area.

We stayed here in June during the Corona pandemic and we felt so safe. The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly. I highly recommend staying here on your next visit to DC. The hotel is convenient to Georgetown and the waterfront and the White House and Monuments . You can walk easily. It was a very quiet and safe area. Rooms are big and very clean. My favorite place to stay and I have been traveling to DC for 3 years as my daughter is a nurse there.

The Melrose Hotel is great. The location was just a few blocks from my conference, and is also just 3 blocks from Georgetown. There is a Trader Joe's market a block away. The staff were friendly and helpful. In particular, Noemi and Mia (at the front desk) gave me an upgraded room, helped me setup my wireless connection, and even helped to print out my airline boarding pass. I will definitely stay here again. Thanks!

When I came to check into the hotel on Saturday, I waited at the front desk for a good 20 minutes before one of the 3 employees that were standing there asked how could they assist me. There was a lady there that had braids and wore glasses (african american) that just continuously stared at me while I was checking in with the other lady. To the point where I asked her was everything okay. She looked at me like my daughter and I were not supposed to be there (and I am an african american woman myself). Needless to say...that was annoying. Then, every single day I was there I called at least 25 minutes prior to coming down for my car to be up front. I had to wait almost 45 minutes EACH TIME. MAKING ME LATE FOR A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING on one of the days. On the other days, it was just annoying. Then the explanation is that there are so many cars in the garage...I really don't care. I mean I paid $50 a night for parking AND well over $600 for a room that might I add was not clean. I took pictures of dead bugs on the window seal, on the ceiling and in the sink that I plan on sending over to the hotel and leaving a review on google about. When the service my room door handle was left outside, the room was cleaned however I noticed that some of the towels and wash cloths were still dirty, or re-folded to make it look like they were changed out. I frequent DC a lot and I thought that by switching up my normal stay for a quaint boutique hotel would be great for my daughter but it was NOT the experience I thought it would be at all. I do plan on posting a review on google and I will be calling to speak with the hotel manager and owner, as it's unacceptable to pay almost $800 for a stay that was less than mediocre.

Hotel staff was overly friendly and helpful. Their customer service made me feel warm and welcome. The room was nice and well furnished. Spacious room with several amenities. It was difficult to get to room to remain at a comfortable temperature and I was informed that the entire building is on the same system so I had to open the window in order to cool the room off. Opening the window led to increased amount of traffic noise in my room so unfortunately I did not sleep well. The happy hour specials at the bar were good and the drinks were made tasty and strong.

I like the location but the destination fee is ridiculous. It includes a bottle of water, toiletries, and coffee in the lobby in the morning. It also includes WiFi. However, it s $31 per night and you can t opt out. Just stop the marketing and reflect the true cost.

I am not sure what it is like to stay in this hotel but I find everyone working in the reception area friendly and pleasant. Their waiting area is impeccably clean and luxurious. The manager, I believe, noticed that I was waiting to meet one of their guests and brought me a bottle of water. Over all classy and great service from the outside!

We booked an Excetutive Suite from 19 to 21 April ...

We booked an Excetutive Suite from 19 to 21 April and I'm not impressed for that money. They gave us 515 as Excecutive Suite. Valet Parking is 56,64 US$ including tax and staff recommendet hotel parking mostly. The air condition was substandard and makes sound like a gun.....tak, tak, tak....they fixed that later.....seems to me in old condition. See pictures for first impression. I would say it is expensive and a little overprised. We pay around 280 $ per night for an "Excecutive Suite" where we need first a mechanic and maintenance expert. See pictures to judge yourself.
The biggest Problem was that later at evening my wife and daughter went in the garage to pick up some more stuff from the garage and my daughter recognized that our brand new Cadillac Escalade was hit into another car bumper and the number plate of that smaller car damaged our bumper heavily. That means that we have now a damage from 300 to 1000 US $ on our new 125.000 US$ Cadillac Escalade. Congratulations Melrose Georgetown Hotel. Both cars where still connected when found and still standing together. The guy from the garage was also not very friendly on that occasion to my wife and daughter.
Later, two weeks, the damage was fully paid by the hotel and hotel management excused and behaved much better. Therefore 4 Stars after the trouble was dealt with.
