A fine zoo where you can get up close to elephants, lions, tigers, gorillas, giraffes and other animals. Beautiful tropical landscaping. Kid friendly. Especially crowded on the weekends.

Great place for a day visit. Bring comfortable shoes as there is a bit of Walking to do. If you have smaller kids you can either bring a stroller or rent one there. The shows are early in the day so plan to get there early.

We had a great time at the zoo during my recent friend trip to LA. Most animals were out & active, which was wonderful to see. All of the enclosures seemed adequate for each animal (I always notice this because I get upset when animals are put in pens much too small for them). A few animals were even super friendly and would come up straight to the glass to say hi. I m so glad we went and would definitely go back if in the area again.

Nice zoo with many well designed exhibits and a wide range of species to see. However large Sections of the zoo are still far out of date andHave deteriorating enclosures. Seems like progress is being made at an accelerating rate though

Beautiful place but there was a lot of closed exhibits and many of the animals were not in their area but maybe I went at feeding time. Make sure to bring your own snack because everything is overpriced!

A place to enjoy with the family and more with the children. It is enjoying nature, fresh air and getting out of the monotony of the children being glued to the video game or the cell phone. Walking and meeting the animals can be fun for the little ones. In addition, the L.A zoo has a parking lot and very clean bathrooms, you will find many animals that are asleep but it is part of nature so enjoy a nice day with the family that they enjoy it.

Sadly not the best time had, crowded, most animals sleeping Zoo staff was cool, however forewarning, the bus/tram that can take you around the park, the warning is real - emergency vehicles will shut it down. :-(

not worth the price if you start your visit in the afternoon. you re going to feel extremely rushed as they start putting the animals away an hour BEFORE the zoo closes. we had to run through everything, barely enjoying the animals, as we were trying to briefly glimpse everything we wanted to see before they were brought inside. there was also an escaped peacock on the loose that none of the staff seemed to know about. if you re a tourist, save your money.

This is one of the best and biggest zoos that I've ever been to. They have such wide variety of animals that practically you could name an animal that you've seen at a zoo before and most likely the Los Angeles Zoo will have it. I went here in the summer of 2010 when three major areas of the zoo were closed for construction: The LAIR (indoor reptile area), the elephant exhibit, and the the Rain Forest of the Americas. Despite this, I still saw more than enough animals. I was there for hours and couldn't even finish seeing everything. Some of the highlights of the zoo for me were the seals and sea lion exhibit exhibit because of the large underwater viewing, the gorilla exhibit because they have two troops in multiple viewing areas, the chimpanzees because they were performing tricks because they used to be in the circus, the koalas because you don't see these too often in zoos in America, the aviary because it feels like you're walking up the side of a mountain in a jungle, and the meerkats because you can see what them through the underground burrows. I highly recommend the LA Zoo to both locals and visitors, and if you're a zoo/animal lover this zoo is a must!

We were very excited to go with family. Although we saw a good number of animals, Unfortunately we found many of the enclosures to be depressing because they are so small for such great, large creatures.

Our kids had a great time and so did we. It was super hot and most of the animals were hidden trying to avoid the heat which is understandable, regardless the kids still loved it and enjoyed the walking and getting up close to the animals habitats. The prices for food and drinks weren t so bad, it s affordable and so is the gift shop.

Even though it was a very crowded Sunday at the LA Zoo, the 4 hour visit was fun and interesting. We took our 4 year old grandson and he had a great time seeing the animals in each area of the zoo.
The lines at the concession stands moved quickly and many of the animals were quite active. The carousel ride was run efficiently and there are many picture opportunities.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and or hat/umbrella for sun protection. There was cool shade areas throughout the zoo, but it did get warm walking.

Lots of parking available and plenty of animals to see.

The park is well maintained and animals are well taken care of.

A lot of the information is available in English and in Spanish.

There are opportunities to feed some animals or learn more about them. Signage are close of this information.

There are food courts scattered around the center as well in other locations on the side of the campus itself.

The park closes at 5pm!

I haven't been to the LA zoo for almost 30 years and the place is absolutely spectacular! Some of the areas are closed due to COVID but the fact that the zoo kept open so parents can have a little sanity to keep their kids occupied is fantastic! $22 dollars per adult and you have to buy tickets online and pick a time to enter as they keep occupancy to code.
