Saw it in the early 80s. Visually it was more accessible them. Now you have to walk up & down inclines - rolling hills landscaping. It's right next to the Mississippi River, so you get the added bonus of seeing life on that powerful river pass you by.

What can I say that everyone else hasn t already said. Such an amazing structure and with wonderful views of the city. I m not crazy about the whole little video you have to watch before the typical green screen photo op (Why?) and the way they cram people into the little trams. I get that you need to control the flow but the current way doesn t seem as effective/efficient as it could be.
Great place too go for a trip, whether your going for fun by yourself or taking the whole family. Always a good time and beautiful place too just stop and take it all in... wonder how awesome it was when Lewis & Clark first laid there eyes on that 1 spot.
Great Monument after you go through security downstairs you can go to the history museum for free it does cost to ride up into the arch itself but it is worth it it's an amazing view
Was a unique experience. The trams to ride up the are small but it was only a couple minutes. It was cloudy so we couldn't see as far as you normally would but you could still see a lot. I wouldn't recommend going if it was really foggy.
Hadn't been here in more than 25yrs. The newly renovated museum and Arch grounds are beautiful! Fantastic experience with my almost 3yr old daughter! Wear comfy shoes as you will be doing a bit of walking
The Arch's amazing interactive museum imursed my family in rich history for free. The park was clean and featured a great greenspace to honor the city's humble beginning. The arch is a wonderful architectural feat that is definitely worth your time!
Such a fascinating experience. We got the combination package where we were able to watch the movie of how the monument was constructed then the ride to the top. Totally priceless experience
What a wonderful landmark that is operating with great precautions during this tough time (COVID). There was even a wonderful officer who helped us get the best picture possible by offering his help! The grounds were beautiful.
St. Louis from 630 feet up (192 m). It is the tallest man-made monument in the United States. It only takes 4 minutes to go up and 3 minutes down. I love how the tram car looks like a small spaceship pod.
Oh what fun this was to explore and learn about this monument and what an engineering marvel it is. Riding the quirky elevator up to the top is probably for most of us a once in a lifetime experience.
Must see in St Louis. Interesting museum at the bottom. The movie about how the arch was built is maybe even better than the tide to the top. Do reserve ahead if you plan to visit during holidays.
Amazing Experience for My Family and Dad! We had a blast and all the Park Staff were very knowledgeable and respectful! We will do this again some day!
One of the United States' most iconic landmarks, The Gateway Arch is an impressive piece of engineering. The grounds around it have changed a lot over the years, and it is probably the best it has ever looked. Overlooking the Mississippi River, it is a beautiful scene.
One of my very favorite monuments. The lines of the arch are just gorgeous. I don t need to go up to the top each time I m in St Louis but I do need to go to it and lay hands on it. The new museum is beautiful, chock full of info and free!
A must when visiting saint Louis! The movie was my favorite part. Parking was a bit rough but we'll worth the walk. Book your tickets in advance online and be prepared for airport type security.
This was decent. If you're looking for an awe-inspiring experience, you may want to back down your expectations. They have an interesting timeline-museum. I heard that the "making of" movie was very good (I didn't watch it). The process to get into the main part of the arch building is the same as getting on an airplane, including taking off your belt...which is kind of ridiculous. The "tour guide" was entertaining, the "pictures for sale" were a little high priced, but not "terrible" I guess. The gift shop was well stocked with items in a full range of prices. They seemed to be about what I'd expect. The tram ride up is interesting, and it's neat to look out the windows from that height. It's a fun thing to say you've "done it". Everything was very neat and clean, restrooms were nice. The cafe looked nice...didn't get anything from there. The tram tickets are reasonable. Overall, I'd say "do it once" to say you did.
This place is great! It has been upgraded since the last time I came. It has a very in depth museum now as well. There is a new central entrance that is done up very nicely. I still think the Willy Wonka type sideways elevators are fun, even if they are a little cramped. The view from the top can't be beat. Be ready to feel the slight sway if it is a windy day. Parking was not easy to find. When we left around 10pm (closing time) there were a bunch of street racers and people out along the river road.
Amazing piece of American architecture, just saw it on the way by, but it's impressive nonetheless, wish we'd have had more time to stop and actually check it out up close but we didn't and there's always next time!
Such a cool monument. Make sure to check out the free museum underneath the arch...lots of cool info about the history of the area and the construction of the arch!
Had a good experience. The rain had chased away most of the crowd and was able to just walk up and get tickets. The guide was great and my wife and I got great pictures from the everywhere
The Arch accommodation s have really expanded since my last visit years ago. The underground entertainment center has something for everyone. It was really nice.
Had fun doing this, totally worth the price. Little bit of a long wait to get on the tram, and one of them wouldn't open when we tried to leave, but would go again!
The museum has been updated recently, but as someone who loves historical accuracy, I thought it was sort of a let down after all the excitement to see the new museum. It felt very small in the museum and had too many screens and games for my liking, however it did have a few interesting artifacts, I personally appreciated the native american area. It is more tailored now for younger generations, it still feels pretty incomplete....It takes a very long time and is very crowded to get tickets, go through the museum, and get to the top. If you have a fear of heights, claustrophobia, or anxiety, the arch is NOT for you. It definitely is a once in a lifetime thing to go to the top, I recomend going at least once, but be prepared to wait.
Awesome bit of engineering! I loved the video, and that was a great group of people with forethought, taking video of all the little things that went into the design and building of this monstrosity.
I enjoyed the displays and museum below. It is a great showcase to the city of St. Louis and it's importance to the country's expansion west.
For others travelling, be mindful of any national site; if you go on a weekend there will be many more people. We came on a Monday morning and got the first tram and had a wonderful relaxed experience. Come on a Saturday in the summer and you'll be fighting crowds. That's just a "well DUH!" for you to remember.
My complaint is that there needs to be something done about the cell signal down inside. What good are e-tickets if I cannot get to them to check in? Either they need to get the signal down there (given current administration's determination to destroy all public things, that's unlikely), bring the check-in process upstairs (why do that when they just built), or get a better software option that links ticket via the confirmation number.
The gateway arch was really fun to visit. You can pay $13 for an adult to go to the top. As a part of that they have a 20-30 min documentary on the building of the arch. It was very informative and neat to learn about. You ride up to the top of the arch in this tiny car with 5 seats. Luckily it wasn't busy when we went so the two of us got the car to ourselves! If you are claustrophobic try to go on a non weekend! Once you get to the top there are viewing windows for you to see St. Louis and the river. We only spent about 15 min up top but it was definitely worth it.
There is more to see than just the arch itself. The underground museum is great. They take you back in time when America was just expanding to the west. And how are young nation lived back then. If you want to get up in the arch the winter is the best time to visit. If not come early and get tickets. There is a long line to go through security. The museum is free but everything else there is a cost but well worth it.
Everyone needs to experience this place at least once. It's definitely neat. If you are claustrophobic, good luck on the ride to the top. It's a tight squeeze but so worth it.
If you are not afraid of heights, take the climb when its windy and you will see the top of the arc swing as you make your way up and are on the top of the arc. Its a little scary and interesting shake underneath your feet. If on a calm day, they say the arc swings by a few inches which is super interesting.
They have new entrances to get into since I was there last a few years ago. Elevators going up are somewhat crowded but fun. I think they call them inclinator it is like the one at the Luxor in Vegas that goes sideways around instead of straight up or down
Great tourist destination thanks to the recent improvements. The updated grounds and museum are nice. And it's free. Parking sucks though and will require lots of walking, even for the handicapped. Great view of the river.
There are some landmarks that are a must see up close in person! The Saint Louis Gateway Arch is that and so much more! After growing up seeing pictures, I had to see the real thing, and visually and architecturally, in person..., the Gateway Arch resembles what something from outer space may appear as if crash landed here on Earth! There is no denying that this structure is truly a U.S. National Landmark on the big banks of the mighty Mississippi River! The symbolism is the most important; identifying the growth, exploration, expansion, freedom, opportunity, and movement towards a Greater United States of America!
Such an iconic statue! It is too bad it is not wheelchair accessible for the ride up to the top! The area around the base and looking up were spectacular! The river was flooded so no riverboat sailings while we were there - the lower road was covered with water!
This Arch is by far the best thing about St.Louis!! I saw it from every place I visited in St.Louis and ended up seeing it from every angle except from up top which can also be done via helicopter tour.
Just an advice for people who want to do tram ride to go up the arch: there are two options. You can do the north tram or the south tram! There is basically no difference in terms of the view for both sides, they will end up at the same spot. However the difference is, you can pre book the tickets for the rides in advance the day before for the north tram but for south tram you have to Book it the day of! So if you have limited time, try to book the tickets in advance on their website!! When I was there the first day, all the tram tickets were sold out and we had to return the next day!
Also another major thing to keep in mind is that the tram is small and very closed tight space! So if you are someone who is claustrophic or get panic attack's in closed spaces, this is not for you!!! The tram ride up is like 4 mins and 4 mins down so you do spend quite a bit of time inside the tram!
There is a 5 minute movie before you go up on the trams! And then you will most likely spend 15-20 minutes on top taking pictures. All together it took us about about 40 minutes for the whole experience of going up the arch!
You could literally be here all day and not see everything!! The Arch is an amazing landmark for St.Louis and its right by the river front. I will most definitely be coming back on another day!!
Definitely one of Americans amazing engineering wonders! If your ever visiting St. Louis make this a stop! The entrance to the free museum is towards the city and is hidden. The museum free to visit! Riding to the top costs $
The arch itself was fun. The service and employee friendliness here was probably the worst of any National Park we've visited. When trying to get a refund because the lines were more than 30 minutes behind and we had s baseball game to go to we were told that no refunds were allowed. As one employee began to issue us a voucher our price was then increased because we had to reschedule to a weekend rate. Since there were two families in our party, she asked another employee to help (now we had waited more than 20 minutes to reschedule) and that employee said, "Nah, I'm good." Another 10 minutes later we had finally finished rescheduling and paying extra money to come back the next day.
Went there the day before Easter, and the tram ride was free to go up in the Arch, but they were sold out. But we were able to see the new visitor center. It was really nice. I want to go back and go up in the Arch.
Just found out I was not a fan of these ribs nor that sauce. And it seems like every place in St. Louis serves chips instead of fries. That's a very cheap route especially when you pay so much for the food. My significant other said the pulled pork tasted alot better.
It is a great experience for a classic historic monument. I have been wanting to go to the top since I was a kid. Finally made it! Definitely recommended if in St Louis, Mo.
I had been wanting to get to the arch for a while now, and it was totally worth it! The physics and engineering that went into this place is incredible, and the tram to the top is totally fun and interesting. It is very cramped, just like they warn, but unless you simply can't handle it, it's well worth being a bit uncomfortable to experience.
Kids had a great time and they were very accommodating for all persons wishing to ride to the top. Ordered e-tickets online 2 days prior which was very convenient. Went on a Sunday, so metered parking in the city was free just a couple short blocks from the Arch grounds.
There was some water leakage underground (I'm assuming from the river water being so high - it's flood season in MO during the spring time) but the crew was suctioning it was quickly as they could.
The tram compartment ride to the top is cramped, but comfortable. I do not recommend sitting near the door if you get motion sick or are afraid of heights as the doors are see through. (Yes, I realize that people who are afraid of heights might not be going to the top of a structure that is over 600 ft tall, but there are those of us who do so despite their fears.)
The trams and area at the top are air conditioned so you shouldn't cook on warm summer days.
At the top, there are small windows positioned perfectly so you may see for several miles to the east and west. I suggest going on a cloudless day. Busch Stadium is visible, as is the Old Courthouse, the roof to Union Station, and much the city. There are several plaques with general information, if that's your thing.
You may stay as long as you like, taking pictures and walking around, but they may ask for people to leave so another group can come up if there are too many grouped at the top.
The park is pretty with lots of grass and walking paths. The museum tells the history of St. Louis and the story of the Gateway Arch. Tram rides sell out early, so check ahead if you want to go up into the arch. There is a cafe and shop, too.
Fantastic experience, my family and I were very impressed! Please Note: The carts you go up the arch in are were well ventilated and nicely furnished, but they are definitely not for people with claustrophobia. They only fit five people each and have low ceilings requiring the average person to duck. Please Note: this museum is perfect for any age and on average it takes about an hour and 15 minutes to complete. Please Note: there is a cafe in the museum with a wide variety of options including kids meals.
We got there right when it opened and we're in the first group to go up to the observation deck....the renovations/remodel is beautiful and the staff were awesome.
Love the improvements to the area but finding the new entrance and parking is insane. We ended up paying $10 to park on the landing and walk miles to get to the arch. Thank God for the benches along the way.
First Visit since the new updates. The tram ride to the top is a must. Its just hard to get the concept of the Saint Louis Arch from the ground. Also Proud to say that I got to do my part on the foundation work about three years ago!
This was a surprise to me! This place was so clean and open. This is known as a saint Louis landmark and it's worth the visit. Once you get the architecture is great! There is the opportunity to inside the arch and see the city skyline. I did not do this but saw that the lines were pretty long to get in, get there early!
Stopped by on my way to Busch Stadium from my hotel on Labor Day of 2019 and it was awesome. The crowd, which I thought would have been larger, was kind and calm. Most was probably tourists but at the same time it seemed like the people from St. Louis were taking time to enjoy the beauty in their own backyard.
Love this place! Was closed when we arrived but was still awesome. Museum, arch, and park! The stairs all the way up to the arch itself was flooded and the river does stink but still a great place. Sorry for poor photos.
This was truly the nicest place I have visited in years! The rangers are so nice, and helpful. All the staff are super great. The museum was fantastic. It's clean and kid friendly. I would highly recommend visiting.
Great unless you get clostaphobic being closed in a barrel that has 5 seats to take you to the top and back down. 5 minutes up and 5 minutes down after your aerial view
Great place to visit! Tram tour was awesome. Gift shop and restaurant were very nice as well. Most of the sights are inside so a good option on a chilly day. Also easy to find the stamp book and several stamps to collect here.
