Called in and they said price was 229. When we arrived they upped it to 300. Then they tried to charge for a fridge. Had no mini bar. Room next to us was having a party at 2am and walls are paper thin. Staff was also rude and dismissive.

The service was excellent, rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location is perfect. Chuck, the curbside gentleman, is a wealth of knowledge about the city and genuinely helpful. Make sure you tip him!

If you like the (very) old school environment, then this place is for you. For me, it reminded me of my old college dorm room without the roaches. It is almost 100 years old and shows every minute of it. Hilton needs to do a whole building renovation.

The hotel is getting old these days. You re paying an exorbitant amount of money for the location and the name, not for the amenities in the room or the luxury of a famous hotel. With hundred of dollars per night being spent here, they don t even put water in the rooms. As much as I enjoy Hilton properties, this place is not worth the cost. There are definitely better value places to stay around Michigan Ave in Chicago.

I was here for St. Patrick's day weekend, watching my sister's kids while they attended a wedding. The service at The Drake was excellent. The cleaning staff was particularly helpful. Room service had a nice assortment of food to choose from. The hot wings were great and so was la creme brulee. The price was offordable if you can order through Travelosity.

Attended a wedding and stayed at the hotel. Our room was supposed to offer a "lake view", which wasn't quite as advertised. Otherwise, the room was spacious and more than enough for four people. The wedding reception area was beautiful.

Great stay at this historically old but very elegant hotel. Conveniently located near shopping, restaurants & beach. The staff was exceptionally friendly, very helpful & professional. We could not have picked a better place to stay and will again on future visits. Thank you

My daughter always wanted to stay at the Drake, so we booked one night through Groupon. When we came back home, I had two bug bites on me: Bed bugs. The hotel refused to grant me a refund or any compensation. Very disappointed.

Vintage hotel that's a little dated, but makes up for it with charm and great service. The coffee shop downstairs offers some basic breakfast items as well as good coffee, if you don't want to go for the full breakfast in the main restaurant.

Really great location, with access to both Michigan Avenue and the lake shore walk, which goes on for miles in both directions. It's a great path for a walk or run, traffic free.

The Drake is a classic without having the sense of an old hotel. It exudes Chicago classicism and architecture, on one of the more classy streets with the most incredible views of Lake Michigan.

I wish I was the kind of lady who lunched at The Drake. But I have a full-time job and I'm not much of a lady, so when I had the opportunity to enjoy afternoon tea here I jumped. The neutral tones, abundant floral arrangements and harpist set the stage for the most elegant afternoon of your life. Afternoon tea comes with your choice of loose leaf tea and a pre-selected arrangement of delicious sandwiches and sweets which on my visit included salmon with cream cheese (and three others), berry scones with the fixings, macaroons and a lovely layered tart. I'd recommend the upgrade to champagne because if you're already paying $38 for tea, why not go for it.

This place looks and feels it's age. My room was clean but a bit small. I did not have a view of the lake so the curtains stayed closed. Perfect location for everything, dining and shopping are excellent in the area. Only complaint is that it's a bit overpriced in my opinion.

Having stayed at the Drake before Hilton bought the property, it s a shame what they ve done to this classic CHICAGO hotel. We arrived Friday night and there were no blankets for the sofa bed. It took 4 calls and over an hour to get a blanket for my kids. On Sunday evening we called to get bath towels because the housekeepers didn t leave any. We were told that they had no one on staff to deliver them until 9 am, almost 2 hours later. Amazing. And the room was falling apart. Peeking wallpaper, cracked and flaking ceiling plaster, and a hole in the wall where a mini fridge had been removed. FYI, I am a Hilton Diamond member, so I doubt your experience will be any better, especially in terms of service. Shameful.

Horrible. Stay away. Completely outdated. No water pressure. No turndown service. Horrible customer service. Zero responsiveness from staff. The Drake has nothing going for it except it s history. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Thanks

My 1 star rating is only for "location" because everything else in this hotel was disappointing. Yes it's historic and pretty, but also outdated with ripped leather seats, flaking ceiling paint in the rooms and squeaky beds. Not what you expect for the Drake.
But the worse is there overall customer service. My boyfriend was put up at this hotel for a work function and figured we tag the family along and enjoy the great location. We did some google search to find out its amenities - found out about the "high tea" and thought this would be great for our girls... Not!, the lady who answered the phone (Mayra) was beyond rude, very matter of fact Such as "what do you want and for when", left a sour taste for my visit. But I made the reservation anyway, a few minutes later I had to call back to ask about dress code. Again same lady, and she practically spelled out "Business Casual" for me. Hey I don't do high tea all the time excuse me for asking. At that point I asked to speak to a manager - but he was busy (of course) and I was back with the same rude lady, was told the manager (Eloy) would call me back.. Never happened. I canceled my High area reservation. When we arrived At the hotel I complained to the front desk... Alexandria was her name, she said.. "sorry you had that experience" and nothing else!!! Not hey here's a free cup of coffee, or let me get the manager or Something to make me come back. I was there to spend money and they didn't care!... in a nut shell the people who work there Don't care! I've had better customer service at a Holiday Inn. Will never go back!

My friends and I regularly go for afternoon tea in the Palm Court once a year. Booking is very easy online. The host or hostess is always a pleasure, the waitstaff very professional and attentive to your needs. They cater fairly well to vegetarian cuisine and pay attention to allergies, if mentioned. Overall always a great experience.

Divine dainty sandwiches. Cup cakes. Small pastries. Unlimited. And a wide variety of tea in teapots. A lovely place to spend an afternoon/early evening. Lady played the harp superbly. Center flower extravaganza. Good service. And cloth napkins :)
Must do.

Drake Hotel seems to be more of an experience than a place where I would spend money to stay. I spent the weekend here for a conference and it was paid for by the host. I think the hotel has some unique design to it that is historic and memorable. I would not stay here again.

For the price of the room this stay was overpriced. We have been coming to the Drake every year for our anniversary. Wall paper in the room was starting to fall off the wall. The tile to carpet in the room to the bathroom was transitioned by duct tape. Staff is always nice and helpful. This hotel needs a facelift to continue getting this rate.

Make sure to buy your breakfast through the front desk. They do not offer it. You will over pay. You will be charged as a nonguest of the hotel. The hotel claimed to be unable to correct their error. The lights were blown out in the room and they were not changed until I asked twice. The bathroom was barely cleaned. It did not get cleaned during our stay. Each of the vacant minibar cubbies were nasty. The minibar/fridge is an additional $30. The concierge and bellhop were wonderful. It is a perfect location to the lake and the magnificent mile.

It's funny that a hotel can be such a fundamental part of a city's identity. Yet, The Drake is just that. You can't miss it driving south on Lake Shore Drive, or on Michigan Avenue.

I've done everything but stay in The Drake. My high school prom was there. I've been to their afternoon tea there. I've hung out with friends while they've had a room. Each experience was exciting and filled with a kind of old-timey charm that is still relevant and fun in today's society.

(That being said: I admit to knowing little about price. This place is probably expensive as hell! So, you know, be aware).
