My wife and I used to love Terranea but things change. Arrived at 12:30p and that's my fault. We understand that a hotel needs time to turn over its rooms from the previous night's guests. What I don't understand is why it took 6 hours to do so. One comes to a place like this in hopes of having a positive experience. I'm mildly embarrassed that, when the 6th hour arrived and we were 2 1/2 hours past check in time, I was forced to make a scene in the lobby to get our room. While I'm mildly embarrassed, the hotel management should be mightily embarrassed.
From our arrival to the time of my episode there were lines snaking through the lobby for check in and a woefully understaffed front desk to handle the traffic.
After getting a room our luggage was nowhere to be found. I'd tipped the bellman $20 upon arrival to take care of that and he opted not to. I'm here on a corporate trip and I know very well that the gratuities are all handled in advance. As opposed to saying "thank you but I've already been taken care of" he pocketed the money and proceeded to lose our bags. Daylight was gone and my wife's teeth were chattering by the time we could locate our luggage--which we did on our own--and transport it to our room--which we did on our own.
All the while the Terranea website was sporting an add for "25% off our best available rates". I'm not sure why such a formerly desirable resort is committing suicide, but it is.
This used to be a desirable destination. That time has past. Either don't come here or keep your expectations very, very low.

Wait there's more---three hours after I wrote this review I thought that my upset stomach was just a physical reaction to my anger at the breathtaking incompetence of the front desk and rooms department. Turns out that it's food poisoning. We're in a suite with two bathrooms and I found my wife on the floor of the second bathroom unable to come back to bed. I saw her vomit for the first time in all the years that I've known her.
Silly me, these folks didn't make me so angry that I had a physical reaction. They poisoned us instead.

I didn't stay overnight but we went for a drink at one of the restaurants. It was so beautiful and the work staff was very accommodating and attentive. We ended up going back the next night for drinks and food on the main back patio. Again, the staff was incredible and the drinks and food were delicious. I want to live here!

The drive in to Terranea was already a start to the breathtaking views the resort offers. The service was all above and beyond. The spa services were fabulous. The food from Catalina kitchen was good. The food from Mar'sel was amazing. They also gave us complimentary champagne. Their hostesses went to lengths to have our checked items shuttled over and dropped off so we didn't have to make a walk back. The views need no words.

Oh, Terranea Resort! You. Are. Amazing!!

Oh, Terranea Resort! You. Are. Amazing!!

For my birthday I wanted to relax and just enjoy... Terranea Resort is the place to go! I have told SO many people about my stay. The staff were wonderful and accommodating, and that made our experience perfect. The moment we entered our room, it was everything (and more) that I was expecting. My boyfriend and I had our breath taken away the next morning when we saw the ocean for the first time for that specific trip and the view from our room was PERFECT!! We enjoyed the pool, fitness center, restaurants, and bell service. All aspects were...well, perfect!

Thank you for the amazing and memorable stay, Terranea! We will be back!!

I had a chance to visit the scenic area of Terranea Resort. I really liked the exterior. Very nicely done on the edge of the cliff. They have ocean faced private pool and I believe a small private beach too.

The resort is huge and right near the water. There's walking paths and a restaurant called Nelson's nearby. Valet is $10 with validation, otherwise, it's $20. There's some free parking in the lot and along the road there, but that's very limited. Nelson's has outdoor seating.

We stayed at the Terranea Resort for only a couple full days about a month ago visiting from Michigan for a wedding. I was truly in awe of the natural beauty of the whole atmosphere. The view from our room overlooked one of the pools and the ocean and it was just breath-taking. The staff was also extremely accommodating and the food was tasty. We hiked up and down the coast the day before we left and truly enjoyed the wonderful smells of eucalyptus. Just stunning scenery. I cannot wait to come back again when we can enjoy a longer stay.

Stunning grounds, gorgeous views and even if you're not staying at this upscale place you can still come and walk the grounds, access the beach and the breathtaking views of cliffs and sunsets and sunrises. Restaurant is quite pricey so make sure to check menu before ordering - otherwise beautiful place to see and worth a stop if in LA. For golf lovers, also has a top class golf course...

My girlfriend got us an overnight stay for my birthday. While the majority of the service was top notch, there was an issue with ordering food at one point. From what the cafe told me, there was supposed to be a surprise dessert for my birthday, but the server that was assigned to bring it never brought it to the room. When we went to the cafe to recitfy it, the dessert was still on the counter. Thankfully, they reversed the charges on the card. Outisde of this incident; the amenities were superb, the food was incredible and our hotel was outstanding.

Plenty of free trails to walk on. Be prepared to pay resort prices at the restaurants. Cliffside, sunset (west facing) views from Nelson's. Reasonable coffee shop prices, bike friendly patio at Sea Beans.

Went for dinner at Nelsons. Was an hour wait but they were having live music at the beer garden next door. Food at Nelsons was a little bland, but the ambiance is great. Go for the view and live music, not for the food.

Terranea captures all the beauty of Palos Verdes. Epic ocean views, tons of walking paths, wide open spaces, and loads of lodging options. I went to Nelson's to watch a sunset and couldn't ask for a better evening.

We went to the lobby bar for drinks and sat out on the patio. We we're in a bit of a larger group 7-9 people which made it a bit harder to regularly get drinks. For the best service I simply went up to the bar to get a drink then went back out side to hangout. Overall it was a very nice spot.

Sub-par "luxury" hotel, terrible experience.

Sub-par "luxury" hotel, terrible experience.

Terranea was stop #2 on our honeymoon trip in southern California, the first one being at Rancho Valencia. After a wonderful experience at the previous stop, and being totally spoiled for 5 days, Terranea fell short on all expectations, except for the views maybe.

About the "service":

Our first morning we got awoken at 7AM by power tools, as we apparently got placed right above the Catalina Kitchen restaurant, currently being "embellished". I do admire the audacity of the front desk knowingly placing Guests above a construction area on their honeymoon. It takes some nerve, and total lack of consideration.

We asked to be moved after waking up, and the front desk had a very "laissez faire" attitude about it, not offering more than a "sorry". We then were hurried to our next room, as they were "functioning at full capacity" and could hold the new room long - which is somewhat weird as there is barely a living soul at anywhere to be seen. A lingering feeling of being taken for a fool started to set in.

The turn down service consisted in being thrown a couple of water bottles and some ice in a plastic bag at the door of the room.

About the "amenities":

The grounds and the views look great, and that's the extent of my positive experience.

The Terranea Cove Beach is disappointing, being just an hemicycle of sand leading to a bank of rocks.

The rooms are mediocre, certainly not "luxurious", and have a 1990s motel feeling to them: empty mini fridge, iPod radio base from another time, $6 Voss water bottle, but somehow free coffee and WiFi.

Everything is pricey without being of superior quality, including the on site coffee shop, the lobby bar and Nelson's.

And finally, if you are into great food, be prepared to drive more than 40min to get it.

Overall, save yourself the experience, and spend your money somewhere else.

This property/landscaping is absolutely spectacular. Stunning view from any location. Perfect for rest and relaxation. Stayed in a 3 bedroom villa and it has all the comforts of home - fully stocked kitchen, garage, extra blankets, etc. If there is something you need, just pick up the phone and they will do their best to try an accommodate you. The on demand golf cart transport is very convenient. Golf course was always busy so definitely make reservations. The beach isn't swimmable but there is plenty of water activities there and a short drive to popular beaches. Nature trails are a must and they are many in the area. Trader Joe's a couple minutes drive down the road. In room coffee is absolutely delicious!! I found myself grabbing a pastry from Sea Beans and having breakfast and coffee every morning out on my patio. It would have been nice to have housekeeping every day but I understand given the current climate. I had so-so service at the restaurants but overall I would certainly recommend a weekend getaway for couples, family or friends. The sunsets literally brought tears to my eyes. Originally, I was back and forth if I should choose this resort and in the end, I'm glad I did. Beyond beautiful.

What a baller hotel....loved it here! It's a great location (about a 5-10 minute walk from the Union Square area, and right by the Yerba Buena center). The service is friendly, the downstairs bar and lounge area is pretty and the rooms are nice!! Oh, and the views are pretty as well!
