Despite it being a bit expensive, it's totally worth it! I had a great experience here. I'd recommend going in the morning, though. I went around 1pm and there were a lot of people and a lot of kids running around everywhere. I'd say that last part was the downside of the art museum : the kids there were often unaccompanied once inside and out of control. A tour around the place takes about 1 and 1/2 to 2hrs.

You've seen the instagram posts and read the Time Out article. You know the jist so this is my perspective as a New Yorker visiting.
This is an incredibly impressive exhibit. The scale of the thing is bonkers. It's a warehouse turned into an experiential world of light interacting with the space, mirrors, objects, and people. There are rooms that are themed differently, like one is based on water and one on animals and one on physical activities. They use projectors, LCD screens, sound design, materials of differing textures, and light to really make you feel like you're in a different world.
To set expectations, you are not going to an art gallery. There are a lot of kids running around and prospective instagram models littering the pathways. It took me a while but I had to shift my mindset from "an experiential art exhibit" to "an experience that has art". Once that was shifted I was able to enjoy a good two hours of wandering.
Protip: get there early. We arrived an hour after opening and had to wait in a line for an hour.
This was a interesting place to visit, each room was a different light show, to explore the exhibit fully it would take 2 to 3 hours, on entry you could place larger items into a locker and on leaving you had the money returned.
Some great works and very interesting. However they let far to many people in at once. The ticketing arrangements for foreign nationals is overly complicated.
Totally worth going.. i was there for like 3hrs.. very good experience.. there some room inside where u have to line up for it.. but totally worth waiting
Great experience. Book tickets in advance, I showed up a bit early of opening and they were letting people in, got a few minutes in some of the rooms without anyone. You likely won't get as amazing photos as on the website because there are so many people in there which makes getting the perfect shot difficult. Definitely go, but have realistic expectations.
If u wanna see the whole Tokyo especially the Tokyo tower, this place if for you! Amazing place where you'll be wow with the view.
The price is worth it coz it's a combination of Tokyo city view and mori museum.. With Cardcaptor Sakura if u want more
P. S. Feel free to have your photo taken in big letter A in the Tokyo city view coz it's free and they will print it for you so you'll have a souvenir already.
An absolute must visit. Reserve at least 3 hrs altogether considering the que and time needed to enjoy inside. Easy to miss some areas as they aren't guided. Coming to the same spot is always worth as the theme keeps changing.
This place is fantastic. The inside is a maze of lights & sound with plenty to do & see. The one problem we found was navigating the corridors & rooms. At times it was difficult to know exactly where to go, many places (pathways) looked similar so you can find ypur self in the same room several times. Arrive early as the wait to enter can get very long. It was hard in specific rooms to achieve the best experience from the large numbers of people moving around. The younger people inside should always be controlled by their carers to reduce the disturbance to others. Ensure time is taken but be aware spending several hours there is very easy. Stay on the lower level & visit all locations as it can be hard to return downstairs once up. In some rooms it pays to sit & relax to ensure you get the most out of what they have to offer. Be aware that care is needed to enable pictures taken come out well. Take your time & enjoy the day.
The experience is for children. Its looking amazing true the camera in reality its seems to be really stupid and it is so crowded. They let you stay in the lamp room just a few minutes less then 5. For me wasted time and money
A bit underwhelming. After a while many of the exhibits start to seem repetitive and some are much smaller than they appear in pictures. Not only that but it s absolutely mayhem because it s so crowded, so you can t fully enjoy the whole experience. It takes a long to get through because there are many crowds and lines to wait through. If you only have a small amount of time in Tokyo, I d say skip it and enjoy more of exploring the city and culture.
artsy place but also kids friendly. you can come with your partner or family. they limit their guest to visit in a day, so you can enjoy the art without being uncomfortable
Yes it's crowded and there's a massive queue so i suggest taking snacks for the kids while you wait. It's pretty orderly, not too painful a wait and is totally worth it. We went on a weekend mid morning. Not as many small kids as i was expecring. The teahouse is worth a visit.
This "museum" is spectacular! It will be really hard to describe the feeling of being in a mirror surrounded room with beaufitul lights and projections. There are several halls with stunning projections on all walls, that some of them change by touching them, and there are also rooms with mirrors and lights, bulbs that change colors, a net that you walk on while the whole room is projected, and more. You have to wait a lot in the line though. To enter you need to buy a ticket (a few days before the visit), and even then there is la line of up to 1.5 hours for those that bought a ticket. If that is not enough, some rooms inside have also a line of one hour and more, but they are all definitely worth it.
MIND BLOWING... definitely an experience, only down fall is the crowds to get a good photo you gotta be quick other than that, the visuals were unbelievable. Would go again
Great experience of visual/vision, sound, action that you will get from this place is absolutely worth ticket price, recommend to book in advance and prepare at minimum 2-3 hours there as you may need to queue up on the Floating Nest for 15-60 mins but it worth!
It is OK. Compared to teamLab planets, Borderless was a poorer experience. In Planets everything is interactive, whereas this was more like a light show. I would give his a miss instead. Overall it was claustrophobic and there were big crowds. This was a place you would wander, whereas Planets it was a walkthrough. As a result there were so many people everywhere and the lines for the exhibits were ridiculous.
A fantastic experience. Totally recommend it. Do go for the tea house experience too! It was fabulous! Wear white when you go as it will make photo taking easier!
Lots of waiting (similar to rest of Tokyo s sightseeing). It was a nice thing to see, but would not call it a must see in Tokyo, unless you are there for 5-6 days..
Psychedelic visions and fairy tale mixed all together. Floating images on the wall, on ground and in the air. Walking in the galaxy experience and many others. May be a little long way from central Tokyo but worth it. Big fun for kids and adults. Best to buy online tickets some days in advance while it may be fully occupied, specially on weekends.
The exhibit can be found on the second floor of Palette Town, through the Car Showroom.
However, once you witness the sheer beauty and experience mesmerisation, you will feel as though the price was right.
There are multiple rooms, both small and large, to explore, exhibiting a variety of different and interesting projection artwork, accompanied by suitable soundtracks. You ll need to look hard as some of the rooms can be difficult to locate!
Was a one if a kind experience! Words can't explain how moved I was by all of the different artistic rooms. The Bird's Nest attraction was the room that caused me to tear up! Definitely a wonderful place to check out.
Great experience. We were lucky to come early. The waiting lines after 2pm were really long, which might worse the experience. I would recommend to spare at least 4 hours to fully enjoy the exhibition. Even thought we came early (on Saturday) with prebuyed tickets, we had to wait for some displayes for 40 mimutes. I would say it is MUST experience in Tokyo :))
The exhibits were very interesting and changes often so the next time you went into a room you could have a completely different experience. It seemed to be aimed more at kids but it was still fun for adults.
To come to Tokyo and miss teamLab would be a crime. This is an amazing experience, definitely worth it's money. Every exposition looked amazing like something out of a movoe/fairy tale.
Great experience. Get there around 9.30am to be one of the first inside, you will get a better experience of what this exhibition has to offer. After 11am, it gets over crowded. Book ahead through their website is a sure way for you to get in easier.
If you are in Tokyo - dont dare miss this museum! Its awesome! After you (think that you) finished the museum, but before you leave it, check online which rooms there are in the museum, because you probably missed a few :p
Incredible exhibition and well worth the visit. Buy your tickets in advance and arrive by 11am at the latest to ensure your visit is not too crowded and the line is not too long. You will still need to wait in line to enter even if you purchase in advance, and the line will be outside, so be aware of the weather.
The experience itself is quite cool, but it is overpriced and overcrowded for what it is. If there were fewer people it would be better, but having to queue for long periods of time both inside and outside the exhibit is disappointing and frustrating.
Cool: Yes. Mind-blowing? Not really. The place has many rooms to explore so allow yourself at least 2.5 hours. A couple of rooms were amazing but some were just meh. However, just the rain (LED strings) room , balloons room and a field of flowers were worth it. There was a 40 min line to the tower room were you sit/lounge on a suspended net with graphics all around. Sounds cool, but totally skippable. Also, the place is definitely good for kids 4 and above.
Visually stunning, but exhausting mentally after a few hours.
There is a tea house upstairs which is designed with sensors, so the tables are dark when empty. But once you put your tea cup on lights projected into it to bloom flowers and leaves. These either once the cup is moved, and blooms a new flower once the cup is set down.
In addition there is an upstairs level which isn't just for viewing. It includes a trampoline area, a slide, some games for kids and adults to play. Very worth a visit, and there won't be many of its kind around the world
I had really high expectations, and unfortunately I must say I'm disappointed. The concept of this exhibition is great: free roam inside a huge dark complex filled with colored light projections and a few interactive rooms. Cool idea, but feels like it's not properly executed. First, it is not meant to be filled with so many people, and tickets sold out every day, so it will be always super crowded. Second, not a single pregnancy warning before buying tickets. My wife is pregnant and she couldn't enjoy many of the experiences. Third, some of the rooms were "out of order". Please don't get me wrong, even if I think it's an over-hyped and overpriced experience, it shouldn't be missed anyway!
Be ready to enter a wonderland This museum is a place of wonder where your inner child will be able to run wild. The art is everywhere and interactive in some parts so it s a feast for your senses. It s also really beautiful and some parts are thought provoking! We stood in a long line for the room with all the lights and only got two minutes inside, but it was well-worth it. Would definitely recommend it! Wear comfortable shoes and take it easy :)
Worth the entire trip to Japan. Do not miss it and leave at least 4hrs to explore. Also, it's fairly hard to find the entrance so if you go through the car thing and upstairs you can walk over a walkway to get there. I found it by randomly walking down an alley and found a back way. The entrance is right by the Ferris wheel. Oh and you will likely wait in a long line to get in even if you already have a ticket. Again, worth it!
Amazing amazing exhibition. One of the coolest things I've ever done. They probably need to cap the people a little more as waiting in line for 40 minutes fie one room is absolutely unacceptable. I would do it again but miss out the rooms with a line as not worth the wait.
We had such a good experience at teamLab. We arrived 10 minutes before opening time (10am), and there were already a few hundred people lined up inside and outside. Despite this, it was surprisingly quick to get in and through to the rooms. Before going in, I would suggest putting bags or bigger items in the lockers at the start, as it would save room and hassle.
Once in, it is not crowded, as there are many rooms and they are all large. Every room was interesting and very well done. We were extremely impressed by the size and execution of teamLab. It is unlike anything I had experienced before.
Around 11.30-12, it was clearly getting busier - so I would recommend turning up right before it opens. Also for the more popular rooms (like the Forest of Resonating Lamps), it is best to go there straight away to avoid queuing to get in. Queuing is not needed for most rooms though.
Likely best viewed on the ends of days, but try and have at least 2 hours available. The line, crowd, and noise are more than I would have liked, but I went in the afternoon knowing it would be busy. Overrated is the waiting in line for Instagram likes, but underrated is the kids area on the 2nd floor. Watching kids art come to life in an instant woven into the displays is better done than anything I ve seen for kids creativity before.
It would be better without the people, but my only criticism off the art itself is the music is very repetitive and universal throughout the display, and not great to begin with.
crowds can be a bit hectic at times (allow 3-4 hrs) and the up to 1hr wait times for a single room can feel excessive but still a super cool place and worth the time. definitely try the tea house!
It's too busy:( they could charge double the admission fee and let half the people in and the experience would be far better. I do not recommend going, you can hardly move with all the rude tourists crammed in there.
Absolutely mesmerising experience, unlike anything I've done before. You tend to see pictures of the same rooms posted online but there's a lot more to it than that, including exhibits that make you exercise (optionally!). It's fun, relaxing, exciting, and thought-provoking in turn, and always extraordinary. There's lots of variety, and the exhibits change over time, so returning to a room might show you something different.
My only criticisms are that the freeform nature of it (you're encouraged to just wander, there is no set path) meant that we later discovered we'd missed some rooms entirely that I would have loved to have seen- I realise it would spoil some of the surprise to have a brochure, but perhaps by the exit there could be a list of rooms and map so you can go back and see anything you may have missed. We also found that people were breaking the requests to keep moving and not to lie down or block paths, which perhaps needs to be more actively kept on top of. This didn't spoil the overall experience, though, and I have no hesitation in giving five stars. It really was a special experience.
Well worth visiting if you are in Tokyo. Can get very crowded so book in advance. Loads of different rooms with digital installations. Some are large and some small but all are interesting. There's a place for the kids to design their own sea creature which then gets put into a digital display. Nowhere to get food or drink but there are plenty of places in the vicinity.
One of the best places we went to - there were a lot of tourists and locals visiting this museum. Amazing place to go nonetheless - you will not find this kind of thing in Europe! There is interactive artwork (you need to visit the rooms twice as they change displays!) and the whole place really evokes your senses. Love it and will definitely go back. Reserve at least 2-3 hours for this place.
This museum is better than it looks or sounds. We spent a couple of hours wandering around and looking at all of the interesting things on display and it was well worth while. You cannot buy food inside the museum so make sure you eat before you go. There is a Wendy's very close to the museum in case you need to get something in a hurry. Fantastic for children and adults alike.
I can tolerate high prices, crowds, and long lines in the hot sun. I can even tolerate the silly name "Borderless." (By the way, Japan is a great country in part because it enforces its borders with great enthusiasm, in contrast to most Western countries which have allowed themselves to be overrun.) But the "art exhibits" (if they can even be called that) were run of the mill animated images that were just plain boring. True, it might be fun to see moving cartoons on a wall if you are 2 or 3 years old. But for older kids or adults, it's basically a building in which crowds of people mill around among animated cartoons on screens. We punched some giant balloons, got a few cool selfies, and went down a slide. Whee! I didn't feel emotionally moved in the least. I try to be an open-minded person who enjoys the world, but this was a huge disappointment.
