NUH suay

My father got into a minor bike accident. He skid and fell off his bike which affected his left side of the body including his shoulder, hand, leg (all left side) went to NUH and doc said nothing major and discharged him on the same day as soon as he was admitted. He came home feeling EXTREMELY dizzy and every night without fail kept complaining about his shoulder hurting a lot. Doc gave 2 weeks MC and asked to go back for check up. And guess what!! We went for the check up for the second week, and doc said his condition (on his shoulder) has worsened. And needs to be operated on IMMEDIATELY. And by IMMEDIATELY, they meant the next day. Lol. Total bullshit. I dont know why they didn’t examine him properly before discharging him. Seriously disappointed.

Waited for more than 3hrs when not many patients are around. No idea what they do inside those rooms. I always thought hospitals in Malaysia are slow but this NUH in Singapore is the slowest of all. And the payment is not $1.

Every time I come for review appointments, always have to wait 30-60min for the doc without fail even if I bother come early. 8.30 appt but the doctors only come in at 9, seriously NUH administration? Waste of everybody's time

Slow pharmacy queue also at least 20 mins. Never fails to raise blood pressure and annoyance with every visit

I went to NUH A&E after a traffic accident... subsequently I was referred to the senior consultant of Ortho Spine (Clinic B - main building) for my follow ups. This guy (sounded like he came from India) is the absolute worst doctor on earth! He gives the doctors of NUH a bad name. He would care about your well being. Not at all interested in your injury or recovery! I'm writing an official complaint to the MOH. So awful experience... maybe worse than the accident I suffered!

Went to A&E at 6.30pm on a Fri evening, it was not very crowded but by the time I seen the doc it was already beyond 8.30pm and finally took my medicine at 9pm. Felt that the hospital was understaffed, there were only a few doctors available though there were numerous consultation rooms. The upfront fees to pay at registration was $121(no subsidies mind you!), which I felt was grossly overcharged for the waiting time and lack of medical staffs. Felt really sorry for those in need of urgent care, there was a young man with bruises after a motor accident ahead of me, he also waited more than 2 hours. Also a lady with severe stomach upset and was vomiting so much, she was so ill till she was lying down on the seats to rest, no one attempted to help her though it claimed to be A&E. Very disappointing experience, I wound have gone to a private hospital with such charges and experience. Will never go back there again unless I have no choice..

Hospital does not offer female the use of transrectal ultrasound which offers clarity in scanning of uterus and cervical fibroids/polyps. Did a womb scan in Dec 19 which picked up nothing in the uterus and cervix but repeated a transrectal scan at SGH in Jan 20 which picked up polyps/fibroids in both locations consistent with results obtained in aug & Oct 19. Despite my feedback in Dec 19, hospital doctors would not take in valid and constructive feedback for the benefit of female patients. This could lead to delay in treatment! Please listen to feedback and hope something could be done.

If you are visiting a patient during this Covid-19 time (October 2020), please note that unless you are a pre-designated visitor for that day, you may not be able to visit.
Please read this notice at level 3 where the registration counter is.

1130 routine appointment turns into two-hour wait. Good doctors, great nures, but admin people clueless about intelligent scheduling. The people running NUH have zero respect for patients' time, and appear to massively overbook doctor schedules.

Then, after consultation, I was the only person left in the waiting area.

Me: Can I pay? I've been sitting here thirty minutes.
Gruff admin woman: You must wait. I'm dealing with a cancellation.
Me: I've been here thirty minutes, waiting.
Gruff admin woman: I'll send you the bill!

University Dermatology clinic is terrible (the docs are mostly OK - this review is on organization). Appointments take ages. Last time, I was waiting almost 2hrs for a scheduled appointment. Receptionist over the phone barely speaks English. Billing people are dismissive and got my billing all mixed up. Very inefficient and slow. Don't go there if you have an urgent issue!

I was told to buy and take medicine at the pharmacy in NUS (Singapore National Hospital) at 8:00 in the morning, but I was kept waiting for one hour because the pharmacy was only working at 9:00.

No mobile data signal. Do not attempt to get out of here in a hurry. Especially from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. I have reported weak signal strength to Singtel Customer Care. Spent approximately 21/2h n no improvement in situation.
Faculty of Dentistry post graduate doctors are excellent and Dental Clinic also get top marks.

* Ill tempered staff.
* Trainee doctors on constant rotation.
* Each day's doctors give conflicting advice/diagnosis/scans/treatment
* Long waiting hours for A&E (2+ hrs)
* Long waiting hours for ward (add. 2+ hrs, minimum)
* Long appt time for CT scan if not class A ward (5 days vs next day)
* Expedite kicking patients out of ICU and ward if non critical.

If you are alive and stable, they will make you wait. Even if you just had a heart attack, stroke, fracture, open wound. Waiting for A&E. Afterwards, waiting for bed. Come at 8pm, warded at 5am.

My mom was recommended to discharge without any diagnosis, while still high risk of fever, UTI or blood septicaemia. She was readmitted to A&E the very next day.

My uncle had kidney stone. Doctor said based on CT, need surgery to remove because the stone is too big for vibration to disperse. 5 hrs later, the nurse say can discharge tmr, no issue. Consistency much?! What about the stone, for goodness sake?!

My aunt was moved out of ICU, despite in coma a few days ago due to high blood pressure. They needed ICU turnover cos no space, so they kicked out patients of lower priority. Without ICU observation, she died the next morning in normal ward.

Do you want shoddy diagnosis? Long waiting times? Discharged for ward space rather than proper observatory care? Don't come to SGH or NUH. Esp if its critical and very discomforting, because time window/lousy diagnosis/ward turnover vs ethics/ will kill you or your loved ones.

Note that this pharmacy does not provide prescription medications, only emergency ones. Despite being 24/7 open, you cannot get your medications in NUH between Saturday 1pm and Monday 9am. Google provides wrong information. Also they charge card payments for 0.75$ purchase, no cash accepted.

NUH, is a seemingly premium hospital now... not the best place to go if you re taking an elderly parent, as they will just send you over to the new ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL (AH), under NUHS.

AH, it would seem, is to become the next community hospital. This is where old and senior citizens get dumped and forgotten . Met several patients who had been there for more than a week.

Altho i am not speaking from recent experience as they happened years back, my encounter is anything but positive. Unprofessional staff, making me pay for their cockups, and my grandmother died here, getting operated and then paying a huge bill while she did not end up getting saved. There are a lot of reasons i could elaborate on above incidents but given the numerous 1 star reviews, i guess it really isn't needed.

Requested ordinary medical report and I haven't received it. Waited for almost 3months (still waiting now btw). Their medical record office is a joke, called them and they always said will update you but it never happen.

Emergency waiting times are very long.
First they will keep you waiting in the isolation room
They took blood samples and made us for hours stating machine is broken
Next they asked for urine which was already passed waiting. That kept us again waiting and we wasted whole night

Reach Children A&E at about 2am. See doctor around 3++am. 2am - son was having fever of 38.4
Doctor recommended hospitalization at 3++ going to 4am. Went for X-ray. Stay in observation ward. Told doctor around 4.15am would prefer to go home to monitor rather than hospitalization. Doctor explains and advice accordingly and I accepted. Doctor wants to moniter son till 6am for oxygen level before sending home at my own accord, which at that point of time it was 4.41am.

Son start to be cranky at about 6.15am.. Ask this nurse by the name of Azina in the A&E ward is there any medication for my son as he's having fever..
Her answer: wait for awhile, the doctor is with a patient.
Me: I think my son can't wait. He's shivering
Her: I'll ask the doctor in a short while, she's with patient!
Me: I think you can walk to her door and check with her, right?
- the nurse walked to the doctor's room door, look at me and said,
Her: she on the stethoscope...
Spoke to the doctor:
Her: she's is shouting for medicines!
**excuse me, I did not shout for medicine, I ask you if there was but you twisted my words.
Azina, I do not know if you are a mother. Can you feel the pain, when you son is felt hot, vomited and crying? If you are tired, you should rest, not bearing the tirednes and twisted my words to the doctor! You are in a professional line, you need to be responsible for what you said!
NUH is a place where my new life begins, my son stayed in nuh for more than 100 days, I met lovely nurses and doctors! Today is my worst day in nuh! Really disappointed for your, Azina's action!
By the way doctor, my son was having fever when we came in to you. Yes! I rejected to be hospitalized doesn't mean treatment only start when my son admmited to the hospital right? How can you be irresponsible by telling me you want to admmited my son to start treatment? Means no admmission, no treatment? If that's the case why make me pay for A&E fee??

The layout is strangely confusing though it's well labelled. For different surgeries, my wife was wheeled from one building to the next, through basements and back doors. Service is good as expected and the nurses are very caring. However like many of such public hospitals, sometimes things get lost and appointments are made without informing patients. Good job nevertheless. After the 10th visit, we got tired of the 2 food courts and walked across the road to try the food to much disappointment.

My biggest remorse for visiting this hospital. $121 gone. Met a grumpy nurse during the first consultation. While describing the lower abdominal pain that I experienced, all I received from her was a sarcasm look & eventually I was referred to a doctor. & the waiting game begins.

Finally stepped in to the room, I repeated the same description of the pain I was in to the doctor & just like the nurse; grumpy, giving that snide remarks & jumping into other conclusions. In the end, I got a vague term for the pain. (Not helping)

Well, maybe I understand that they might have gone through a tough shift and all but at least don't treat us patients as though we're owing you a living. I definitely wouldn't have come here if the pain isn't bothering me so much throughout the night.

I'll think twice before coming here again. I expected professionalism, NUH.

Worst hospital i've ever been to.

Worst hospital i've ever been to.

Went there to do my wife's analysis for her walking issue. After the first orthopedic couldn't find anything they send us from Dr to Dr., from MRI to MRI. What started out with x-rays from the leg, went to MRI of the spine, to MRI of the brain, now they are planning to do gene testing.

Typically US style, guess work at its best. When you have money, they will milk you like a cow. Every Dr so far has guessed and sent us to the next department for more guesswork.

If the government would be covering the healthcare, then they wouldn't do this. So in the end, from a simple x-ray, the costs for a non life threatening issue will easily go in the $20,000 plus.

Certain doctors should be a little more patient and don't raise their voices to people who pay for their high-end lifestyle!

Maybe a report to the medical board would teach them a lesson, or maybe I should just post it on stomp how Dr's behave at NUH but then again, when I see how professors behave here in Singapore, I shouldn't be too surprised of these Dr's.

I won't post the name of the Dr., due to my wife's request...ONLY!!

The Doctor charge is extremely expensive however the advise is less than the polyclinic doctor...even have appointment at 10am still need to wait for doctor come in at 10.30am..then arrange 2.30pm for test..did they care about patient? The best part is the charging fee never inform to the patient in advance and get agreeable.

Went to this hospital because it was convenient for me to travel but it was so disappointing. It wasted two years of my life without an accurate diagnosis. Some doctors from the paediatrics department were really egoistic and refuses to trust my symptoms. Thankfully, I gave up on this hospital in the end and went to a private hospital to get proper diagnosis and treatment. Your hospital's mission is to advance health by synergising care, education and research, in partnership with patients and the community. How can you improve the well-being of patients when your doctors do not even have the basic skill to communicate effectively with their patients? As providers, you should first know how to listen to your patients' concerns before you can help them. We put patients first is also seen in the hospital website. How is that the case when the doctors can fail to listen to my concerns and fail to recognise signs of conditions that they should be very familiar with in their specialty? The patient relations department is also horrible. I have feedback this matter to them and they told me that they will get back to me, but after nine months of waiting, I got nothing. I am truly disappointed by this hospital.

Overall front line staffs are very courteous, staff who have face time with patients are very polite. There are issues like during discharge, just to wait for the pharmacy to dispense the medicine takes more than 6 hours which normally delays till you incur another day charges on your ward stay, also beware the discharge summary issued time and actual discharge time are way off.

Year 2000: Grandfather had a stroke...was sent to A&E and NUH. Waited and waited...and missed the "Golden Hour" that is crucial for stroke patients. Became disabled and bedridden for 12 years.

Year 2012: Grandpa had a pneumonia...was sent again to NUH...waited at A&E for 9 hours before they admitted him. In the meantime, he was left on a trolley in the corridor while my family and I were trying to comfort him and covering him with our jackets to keep him warm. 5 days later he was discharged and on 2nd day of Lunar New Year (which was a few days later) he passed away in peace.

Just writing this memoir review enrages me even till this day.

Regarding the F&B. Actually I dun understand why Food court have to be so expensive. It s a public hospital. Why can t price be more decent? It s shopping centre price. When it s shopping mall, authorities say they can t do anything. Now it s govt sector, still can t do anything? I dun get it

My English is not good as I am 12 Yr old and me and my mom is not happy with the NUH staffs. Only a few staff I've seen is nice and the rest are just rude. The first time we look for someone to ask where to go see the children doctor the staff just rolled her eyes and replied as if she was annoyed at us My mom was really confused. So when we reached the children doctors building we were not told that I needed to go and register as we already had an appointment. After waiting for 30 minutes in front of the staff that was helping other people register she asked me why me and my mother was standing in front of her. How am I. Suppose to know. We asked her and she said we need to go to the small little corner to go get a queue number. I'm really frustrated why my queue number had not even appeared on the screen and my queue number just jumped into the miss queue. When we went to the registration counter again they said they called me a lot of time. I was really angry and the girl told me to go take my height and weight. She did not even tell us where and just walked away. I went to ask where and the girl rolled her eyes at me and told me to go straight. I went straight and sit down. A kind nurse came to ask my mother why I was there and we said we were waiting for our queue number. She said if I had an appointment then I don't need to wait I can just go to 6 floor. My mom and I told the kind nurse that the girl at the registration center did not tell us clearly where we were suppose to go. The kind nurse apologised and told me they were tired. I was like if your tired and you cannot remain professional and your gonna give that kind of attitude and piss people off. DON'T TAKE THE JOB. The girl at the main building kept rolling her eyes at my mom. I wanted to shout at her for disrespecting my mom. Don't think that I am young and I don't know anything. Don't look down on me and my mom. Now I'm sitting here waiting for nothing I guess.

Of all the hospitals that I've been to in Singapor...

Of all the hospitals that I've been to in Singapore, NUH has the worst customer service. The staff can be indifferent and untactful. Very rarely one can get an excellent staff. The now closed blood donation center is the only place where the staff are courteous. (They better be, otherwise no will donate) However, one will see a stark contrast in service standards if you're a private patient. I've experience both and hence able to comment on this. What's the irony? NUH post placards asking customers to treat their staff with respect and dignity. This probably leads the staff to feel pampered and hence the lackasidical attitude towards service standards. Most of the staff work like robots and as if they can't wait for the day to be over. Perhaps NUH should take a lesson on customer service from SGH. It's a huge difference. In SGH almost all the staff are very friendly and that includes janitors who makes an effort to acknowledge patients or visitors. I have to meet any staff in SGH whom do not meet the service standards.

Even the carpark in NUH is terrible. Bikes are allowed to indiscriminately, especially the Malaysian bikes. These takes up car parking space which are already very limited. The loss prevention department should take a more active role in preventing this.

I've brought up many feedbacks to NUH with regards to their service standards. Unfortunately I don't see much improvements. Well I guess, having a decent customer service standards are not in their agenda.

The hospital is poorly managed. You may want I get yourself ready to be frustrated if you decided to take their service.

The professionalism you get depends on the staff you met. They are friendly, and friendly is the only thing you can expect. When it comes to their work.... hmmm....

No point to call their customer service, so far I don t see them doing anything.

Anyway they run the hospital like a robot. Everything has to follow their protocols.
