Great place for a wedding. Disney lift to the top of the mountain for great views (and cocktails). Convenient to Donner and Tahoe lakes and vibrant communities. And the bar tender at Sugar Bowl a great guy!

A trip back in time to a place I skied many times as a youngster. It's the closest "real" ski resort to the Bay Area. With three main lifts, each serving a different range of abilities, Sugar Bowl has something for everyone. While I skied all three during my visit, I particularly enjoyed Mt. Lincoln. Several runs are quie enjoyable with constant terrain changes. From steep to to gentle, with small knolls, valleys, and ridges offering a challenge without wearing you out. I really enjoyed my day.
Sugar Bowl does not have the sterile, sometimes rude feel of a big commercial Ski Resort. Very friendly staff. Great fun riding the gondola in to the lodge.
It is perfect. It is never crowded, the trails are a great deal of fun, the views are amazing and the staff is just wonderful. Really i only have good things about this. Just the food is a tick to expensive. But in these resorts it's a norm.
Not the biggest resort, but the closest/lowest resort with the most advanced runs, and you don't have to go over the Donner Pass. Several areas have long flats though, to get between chairs/lodges, which is annoying when skiing with kids that you have to drag along the flats. Express chairs help the crowds/lines from being too crazy, although weekends can get super busy.
$40 cheaper and 40 miles closer than North star. Not crowded... didn't put enough effort to search more trails.. used just two of them. They were long enough :)
Depends about the snow obviously but great lifts all are modern 4 person seaterd that move quick...most runs are very open and good for intermediate skiers but it can certainly entertain more advanced skiers as well...the summit chair is only open when there is exceptional snow but it is a super fun double black diamond
Great mountain, and even though it was a windy day, the lifts stayed open. Bonus when it's snowing. Be prepared to travel in an antique gondola to take you to the village from the parking lot, fun experience. You will have some nice restaurant and bar options for your lunch or Apres ski. The lifts are moderately fast, so you can do all runs (or more) in the day. Book your tickets in advance to save some money
Favorite Tahoe family mountain, think retro, throwback to the 70's but with amazing terrain and the most snow in the Sierra's. Would give 5 stars but they need better food at more reasonable prices.
The bar at the Sugarbowl Lodge is just a wonderful place to grab an icy beer or mixed beverage, or warm cocoa or a tasty snack....before during or after a day of spectacular skiing, shared with friends, family or simply all alone. Superb!
One of my favorite mountains in Tahoe. Great challenging terrain, and big enough to keep you interested all day. Price point is very reasonable for the area and what I get.
Retro ski resort with enough upgrades to be comfortable. Good as a family resort. Parked by the gondola (4 person enclosed cars). The line to the gondola is reminiscent of the Splash Mountain ride at Disneyland; it looks like a wooden saw mill. The drawback of this lift is when you get off the gondola. Three flights of metal stairs lead you, your skis and poles down to the snow. I guess the alternative is to park on the Judah side and skip the gondola altogether. On a stormy day, most of the accessible intermediate and advanced runs were distinguished mostly by whether it had been plowed the night before. There are a number of "ski through the trees" trails and paths that are fun for the family, with the remainder being undulating runs or steep chutes - no real open bowls. Tops of the mountains were engulfed in the clouds and mist, making visibility basically zero, so I did not get a chance to ski what many say is the best part of Sugar Bowl. Maybe it was because most people were concentrated on just a few lifts because of the weather, but the lift lines were pretty busy and not really well regulated. Operators leave the guests to form into groups of 4 by themselves most of the time. Single line was not very efficient. Two lines merged to one, and the attendant (when there) would not group 4 singles onto one chair, so the single line wouldn't necessarily move every cycle. So in summary, if it isn't crowded and the weather is good, this would be a good place to take the family skiing. It costs less than the mega resorts, has the necessary amenities, and while not quite entirely modern (stairs in boots are just no fun!), is worth a visit.
I love this mountain and it's convenient location (for San Franciscans). The two kids/beginners areas are great for teaching your kids to ski (start with the Village carpet first, as that hill is smaller). There's plenty for every skill level and it's rarely overcrowded.
Worst experience ever. It took us 1.5 hour to get our rental gears even though we paid and booked online. The rentals were in bad shape. The second day all the lifts were closed because of the wind. Not their fault but after being told by the staff at he parking that we would get a refund at the office they refused to to refund anything. Very poor customer service.
Wide trails and usually not-so-packed lifts. Tickets are more affordable than many of the ski resorts nearby, but the structure of lodging and food is simpler. The access road is narrow so expect few minutes of delay, as traffic gets slow due to parking. Family friendly. Tip: Mt Judah is usually less crowded to both park and ski. That Mt also gets less sun, so snow is usually pretty.
Nice home-y ski resort that's not too crowded. The riders are very friendly and the runs are nice and smooth. I mostly do blues on a board to relax, but there are also tons of black diamonds for advanced skiers!
Fantastic views, great variety of slopes, good value for money considering how large an area it covers. Love the extra parking option with the free gondola.
Have only been here once, but we had a great time. Friendly staff across the board, and we chatted with several friendly regulars. Hated how frequently the steeps drained into slow flat areas but the terrain was amazing.
First time visitor. Last week of Feb, we had spring boarding. Great time. Loved the long runs, being a boarder we look for mountains that have long runs. Pain in the butt if you have to take your board off every couple of min. Will be back
