Great chili, great burger, and great Mac n cheese...
Top notch. Was there during the night parade but the Staff was courteous and helped my party to find things we not only enjoyed but were in any diet restrictions. Will most definitely return in the future. PS: The Cuban was amazing and the Mac & Cheese was heaven.
This used to be a nice restaurant, a few years ago. It seems things have taken a turn for the worse.
Atmosphere: The new location is much roomier and the decor is mostly nice, but the bench in my booths was uncomfortable and squeaked loudly when I leaned back against it. There's a piano wedged between the booths on one wall that seems out of place. I can only imagine that, had the piano been in use, it would have be much too loud for people sitting in the adjacent booths, only 3 feet away. The TV (muted) on the wall above the bar was showing the news. The music playing over the speakers was decent and was set to a decent volume, not too loud to have a conversation, yet not too quiet to hear.
Service: Wait staff was polite and attentive, and did their best to address our concerns.
Menu: The menu is very, very overcrowded. While there are 12 soups to choose from, as you might expect by the name, there are also 10 appetizers, 5 salads, 3 empanadas, 7 entree bowls, 6 flatbreads, 6 desserts, and a whopping 12 sandwiches (even if you don't count the fact that one of the sandwiches has 6 different varieties). That's 61 food choices for one smallish restaurant, and again, that doesn't count the fact that items like the panini and the "cubamanti" have numerous unique options.
Drinks: We only ordered sweet tea and a Diet Coke, but the Diet Coke tasted bad and had an oily film on the surface. We don't know if it was the glass, the syrup, the machine, or the ice, but something was very wrong with it.
Food: Unfortunately, the drinks were where our experience went sour, and it kept going downhill from there. A few items on the menu were out of stock, and I understand that sort of thing happens from time to time, but it's especially more likely to happen when you have an overcrowded menu. The veggie panini platter we ordered had almost no peppers or shrooms, was completely loaded with olives, and packed with spinach--the spinach wasn't even listed on the menu. Things got worse when we found a long, black hair tangled in the greasy, nearly-translucent fries (not just on top). When we told the staff, they offered to make it right, but we declined and they took the food back and removed it from the check.
The cuban sandwich (platter) was greasy and tough, and came with black beans and rice even though we ordered fries, although given the state of the fries on the panini platter, I wasn't completely disappointed with the mistake. At that point, I had completely lost my appetite from the "mystery hair," but the staff had caught their error and brought out a side order of fries with an apology. We didn't look at them to see if they also included hair.
Overall: Years ago, I used to recommend Stone Soup to my friends, even after they changed their french fry recipe to something less tasty, but given the downward spiral that this place seems to be in, I can neither recommend it, nor do I wish to return. While I prefer eating in local restaurants, this isn't one of them. Thankfully there are plenty of better options nearby.
We ordered the lobster bisque based on server's recommendation...Worst soup I ever tried in my life, impossible to stomach, extremely salty. French onion was ok. Very disappointing experience from a highly reviewed restaurant.
Worst place, worst owner, worst business in Ybor City!
Great food and excellent service!!! They are really very good people. They behaved so nice and food quality is really amazing and tasty. 5 star. Will come regularly.
Good food and staff. Seating a bit cramped. Priced above casual.
Ordered thru Uber eats. The beef Pho was mediocre at best. Noodles were not good, and little to no beef in it. Highly disappointed on the Pho. As for the potstickers, they were just not good. Will not order from here again.
I have tried to order delivery service from this place 3 times and every time i try they don't have someone avail to deliver. Whats the point in having it as an option if no ones ever avail!! Ill take my business elsewhere
Food is amazing! Drag queen bingo with amy Demilo is so much fun!
Ordered soup and a sandwich from here and it was as if the entire meal had a salt shaker poured over it. When I mentioned to my friend that it was too salty, she almost died of shock because I usually like salty foods. This was gross. They need to ease up on the salt.
RESPONSE TO THE BUSINESS: I ordered through GrubHub because I wanted to support small restaurants and those in the gig economy during this time. The food was so salty it was inedible. The owner said they don't use salt in their response to me, but in a different response says they do use salt, just not in high quantities. Give me a break, there was so much salt in this food it was completely inedible. Your rude response only further solidified that I ll never order here again and encourage everyone I know to avoid it as well.
Lobster bisque was amazing! Do recommend this place.
Nice place to grab a drink and upstairs is the spookeasy which is a lot of fun
Best potstickers I've ever had. First time we were there, the service was amazing. We went back the next day and the service was horrible. Decor is cute, trendy, creative, vibe of the place is fun.
The fourth star would have been for the nicely decorated atmosphere and the smart use of balcony or upper studio space for dining.
The soup that we ordered was made in the tradition..you could see that, but lacked depth of flavors. At least to my taste. But i really liked the vibe and location. Reasonably priced and serviced well buy friendly staff. I'll go back.
The food is good enough here, though nothing memorable imo. The chicken soup was well done and had an interesting hint of curry, but could have used more salt. Really neat interior though!
Awesome!!!! Made allowances for dietary restrictions and the food and service was fabulous!
I'm sure my food would have been delicious...if the order had been correct the first or second time. I ordered some sort of chicken pesto panini without the mayo mustard. I get the sandwich the first time...there's mayo mustard. Understood, things happen, details are missed. They remake the order, I get it...and there's no chicken. They apologize and remake it, there's no pesto. At this point I just asked them to take my meal off the bill. Not gonna lie, it was frustrating.
Great lunch spot. Favorite French Onion soup in Tampa. Also the sandwiches are good. You can do a half sandwich and soup combo for lunch on weekdays even though it's not on the menu, would recommend that.
Great place to have a Cuban sandwich in Ybor City, the atmosphere, food, and service is first rate. Also be sure to check out the surreal tea room in the back at the top of the stairs, they brew kava and it was quite the experience.
I'm not sure if it's the new location, or the time of day we went, 7pm, or the fact everyone working seemed a but under the weather but the food was like warm at best and service was slow for being almost empty. My previous visits have been enjoyable and everything was to temperature. Has the broccoli soup which is my favorite. All and all though nice atmosphere and love the art in the walls.
Great soup and sandwich for lunch right in downtown Ybor.
I ordered large Caesar with gyro meat. Over loaded with black pepper. Had I known I would have asked them not to use it. First Caesar I've had that had black pepper all over the greens. Skimped on the meat considered it thinly sliced. Gentleman who took my order was good. The girl server who dropped my takeout meal in front of me poor manners. Never said here's your salad, meal etc. literally walked by and put the bag in front of me. I called to her a ty! And she acknowledged me. The gentleman was kind enough to give me directions. The salad is a salad can't really go wrong. Fresh just over seasoned. I'd ask on the pepper etc as it can be an issue. My stomach is sensitive to it. Fun area and will visit the city again.
Great atmosphere, amazingly helpful and kind service. One of the best Cuban sandwiches out there. Eat here.
Sit at the bar and the bar tender will treat you right! Have some ginger ale with a splash of ginger beer with your Phoking Soup.
Food is great but man is there a long wait for everything. 10 minutes to get drink order, 10 to get the drinks and put in for food, 20 minutes to get a salad and 15 to get the check back after giving them your card.
I sat down and was eating personal crackers and an employee came and asked me about ordering I told her yes and she said she would send the server. The server came and asked me for my order, I told her a water please. She comes back and says her manager said if I don't order anything besides a water since it's free, I can't sit on their tables outside. I told her I didn't get a chance to look at the menu and she repeats herself about me not being able to sit there and goes back inside and doesn't come back out to check on me or say anything for about 45 minutes before I decide I should leave.
Odd experience. Came with my sister and we ordered several items off the menu. One item had different meat options and the waiter didn t ask which meat and rang it in as shrimp. My sister forgot to state the meat option she wanted but the waiter also should ask which one and not assume. Another item was supposed to be mushroom caps and it came out as fried mushrooms to which he never said anything about it. He waited until we had tried a few (we didn t know what mushroom caps were supposed to be like) and we said something to him hey are these just fried mushrooms or the mushroom caps and he admits he rang it in wrong and that it was in fact the wrong dish. We thought to ourselves ok that s weird why didn t you say something about it then instead of just hoping we would not figure it out? It was clear this waiter was new as he didn t ever ask to fill our drinks and had now messed up two orders so we thought no big deal and just let it go and he offered to take the fried mushrooms off the check which we were fine with. The problem came when we had already eaten 1/3 of the mushrooms at this point (not anymore after we realized it was the wrong dish) and he asks if we need boxes and we said we needed an extra box for the mushrooms that were leftover and he tells us that if we are going to take the home he will put them back on the check.... WHAT? You admit you rang in the dish wrong you admit you forgot to ask what meat on the pasta and just picked one but not just leave what is on the table? You would rather waste and throw away the mushrooms that are half eaten then let us take it all home after your mistake? So odd. Not that we cared about taking them home it isn t what we ordered but the principle of it. You mess up several items on an order and then don t just let your patrons have the meal instead of wasting it and throwing it away?
I tipped him but will not be back. Customer service is part of the experience.
The food is amazing, staff are super. friendly, and it's an amazing small homie restaurant in ybor!
The best. Seriously. The best. Drop in and have a bite.
Broccoli and cheese soup is delicious customer service is amazing after walking in I was asked could I be helped with almost all
Very nice ambiance server was very attentive. The flavor of the chicken was very good, the guava with sweet cream desert empanda was so simply awesome..we will be returning. JW
Just moved to Tampa great restaurant to eat and have a great time I think there chef is amazing cooks some.great food I recommend it to everyone the owner is a great guy as well very friendly
Love the sangria and cuban empanadas. Also the hot shrimp soup is awesome. It's fast friendly service and small or large plates, soups, local hip joint.
A very nice open restaurant and Lounge. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the upstairs and all the decorations. Try the Cuban sandwiches they're delicious!
Great atmosphere! Original art! Helpful waiters! Full bar! One star less because the ladies room wasn't clean and the meat in the Jueben was fatty.
I've been to Stone Soup a dozen or more times. Always great food, service, selection, and prices. Sometimes the small bar area gets busy but there's a reason why - it's really nice! On Wednesday evenings (7pm?) they do 1/2 price bottles of beer. Well, their selection is excellent and you can score some great imports for half off. Even full price $5-7 for some of the more uncommon beers isn't bad at all. Oh, and happy hour daily is a great time to try a few draft beers from their taps. I'd recommend trying Stone Soup if your in the area
Soup was lukewarm and the service sucked, why are the service dress like they going to the park
Anyone looking for the BEST Cuban sandwich in Tampa look no further! We had a small party for 65 people and Stone Soup Company provided the Cuban sandwiches, black beans and rice and there famous Ceasars salad and everything was absolutely delicious unfortunately there were no leftovers! Thanks again Ilya for helping make our party a success because without great food it's it's just a average party with a bunch of leftovers!
Enjoyed this unique eatery. Had soup at an outside table. Tasted great
Service was slow. Server struggled at answering simple questions. Seemed irritated that we asked her questions. Communicated with other employees by shouting. We planned on getting food but our drinks took at least 10 minutes. They messed up the coffee the first time, not a big deal but it definetly took an extra 5 minutes to prepare and arrive to our table. I d understand if the restaurant was busy but it wasn t. I ve managed restaurants before and I d be extremely disappointed in my employees if I found out how unprofessional they were acting. I m giving three stars because I m sure it was an off day for everyone.
I m a soup connoisseur of sorts. I just LOVE soup. However, restaurant/store bought never tastes as good as homemade (or so I thought.) The broccoli cheddar here is fantastic. The matzo ball? Amazing! The chicken noodle? Tastes almost just like my moms homemade! So glad I have place that I can order good soup from so far from home.
Ordered the pho soup, so not good.. it was not pho at all, it was like spinach water with roast beef and linguine noodles. If I could give no star I would.
Good food horrible service... waitress added extra tip to bill.... clearly 18% for horrible service wasn't enough
I highly recommend the Cuban sandwich - one of the best I've had... and pretty much the only thing we really liked. The soups were "meh" and the salads had a lot of lettuce to dressing/topping ratio. They didn't taste the freshest. The soft pretzels tasted a bit stale. Someone else in our group had the burger which was dry and had a lot of extra bread. Definitely come here for the Cuban sandwich - skip the other things on the menu. It could have been since we did takeout, I'll give them that.
Prices are way too high. Takes too long to get order. Food tastes great though.
The service is excellent. I ordered the veggie and chicken empanadas which were spoiled. I would not recommend this establishment for food.
Great place with a great menu and excellent service.
I ordered french onion soup to go ask it ha chesse and such that cooked with it! I was told yes. I ge there wait like 15 mins for my order so now we at 45mins for soup. I get home it has no chesse and in a bag has sliced chesse and 1 small crouton. I never been more disappointed in a 8$ soup that cold with a side of slice cheese!! Seriously could go campbels soup for the $1.50 and slice chesse and had the same thing!!! Tampa bay brewing up the road and would suggest then over this mess any day !!
We had one issue with one item we ordered. The rest of the food was edible. We did not like the service they provided. My daughter's meal didnt come out they way we asked.
instead of rushing it back out for my child the manager comes out and starts focusing on what he thought might be the problem with the lobster mac n cheese instead of listening. The server Casey continued to forget the few things we asked for and at one point tried to tell us she had brought the refill when she clearly didnt. Management needs to focus on his server's performance instead of attacking his paying customers. Its truly disgusting he carry's himself in this manner. People do have rough days but no reason Casey couldnt do better for her only table at the time. The manager is an idiot for attacking his guest on his restaurant's review page. Piss poor performance sir!
Horrible costumer service, and the food wasn't great at all. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Not for me...check out upstairs for the speakeasy space behind the bookshelf
Great food, excellent service, and reasonable prices.
Ate one of the best cheese burgers. Ate it with no mustard or mayo or ketchup. Also the 3 cheese broccoli soup was very good. Great meal.
Their menu online is out of date. They don't have nearly as many soups as a restaurant with the word "soup" in their name should have. I went to have the lobster bisque, because it's listed online, and they said that the online menu is old and they won't update it. Besides that, the food is mediocre.
Pretty alright prices, but with amazing taste, worth what you pay, the CBD just helps a bit
I went to this place for the first time last night... It is ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!!!! Customer service was excellent! The food was GREAT! The whole set up of the place was very chill and relaxing!!!
Got upcharged $10 for a substitution. Paid $22.50 for a dry overcooked Impossible burger. It was just a miscommunication but when I brought it up the person who seemed to be the manager only defended the price and said the owner docks their pay if they mess up. This is the main reason for my 1 star.
I had ordered the cubamati before and got the Impossible burger instead of tofu for a small upcharge. In passing, the server quickly told me it would be $10. I thought he meant just $10 for the sandwich, but he meant for an upcharge in addition to the $10 sandwich. The cheese is $2.50 extra too, which was sparsely sprinkled and not melted. They were also very understaffed and my dry burger got cold while I waited for much needed water. We spent $65 and I'm disappointed to say that we won't be going back. There's too many better vegan options in the area. Also, the manager weirdly said our server was the only vegan they hired, like that somehow had anything to do with their policies, the understaffing, or the poor cooking of the burger. This was not his fault. It was a joint miscommunication that happen while I was chasing my toddler back from the bathroom.
I was planning on bringing my whole family there for these iconic Pittsburgh style sandwiches, but not at that price and quality.
Let me start by saying THIS IS A DESTINATION when you're in Ybor City/Tampa, FL! Great atmosphere! Great music! Great food! A true Triple Threat!
Three of us arrived on an early Saturday afternoon for lunch. We all ordered The Real Cuban sandwich (homemade mojo roasted pulled pork, cooked ham and salami piled onto Cuban bread then layered with mustard, mayo, pickle and Swiss cheese and brushed with butter then pressed) something they are locally famous for. With that my sister and I ordered a bowl of Bacon Cheese Loaded Potato soup (their Broccoli cheese soup with potato, bacon and cheddar cheese baked in) and my wife ordered a bowl of Ybor Chili (slow cooked chili with Italian sausage, ground beef and pulled Cuban mojo pork with aged sharp cheddar) something else they are locally famous for. Everything was delicious!
For drinks I had the Cigar City Tampa-Style Lager (so good that when we left The Stone Soup Co I picked up a 6pk from Publix!) and the ladies had the Blueberry Lemonade Margarita. I finished lunch with a shot of Cafe Cubano (sweetened Cuban coffee) and the three of us shared a serving on Guava Niaddi Flan--yet another locally famous dessert.
The whole experience was wonderful and noteworthy but heads-up: It is on the pricy side. That being said there's a good reason for this as The Stone Soup Co actively participates in feeding the area's homeless as well as provides meals gratis for ER First Responders and church soup kitchens.
The next time we're here we will be returning and spending a few hours as they also have a well stocked bar!
The service was horrible most of the food was average the Greek was mostly lettuce the Cuban was the only thing that was good in this place. We won't be going back if I spend over $50 bucks in a place for 2 burger platters, a Cuban platter a Greek salad, drinks and some deserts I at least be able to be welcomed as a customer.
Competition is intense but their Cuban may be the best.
Exceptional, tasty food. Had their famous Cuban with white cheddar mac'n'cheese, bavarian pretzels, and fried french toast dessert. Loved them all and unsure how in the world this place only has 4.3 stars.
The Lobster Bisque was wonderful..The Italian Panni was tasteful!! Will be back@
Never will I go there again never been so disrespected
Food was bland with no flavor. Service was, meh. Would not reccomend eating here.
Decided to visit this place after reading that they had the best chili in all of Florida and I must say it did not disappoint, definitely some of the best chili I've ever had! They also had award winning Cuban sandwiches that were pretty good, as well. It's kind of quirky atmosphere but it fits right in with the variety of other bars and restaurants found in Ybor City. Check them out next time you're near downtown Tampa!
Place has a cool vibe. Would go there for drinks with friends. Cuban Sandwich was delicious!
The wait is ridiculous!!!...they will walk past you a at LEAST 5 times before acknowledging you which is a pet peeve! I mean sheesh hire a hostess! Food is okay but don't expect to get in and out during a lunch hour.
Heard of this restaurant from a few friends so decided to try it out for myself. Big mistake.
I ordered the tomato basil soup with cheesy garlic bread, simple. And this was after my painstaking wait for a menu and the waitress's inability to bring me a water without ice. Its amazing the lack of common sense from this woman. As I waited for more than a half an hour for my food I used the restroom that was halfway through the kitchen where I noticed the older waitress licking her fingers after biting into a piece of bread and proceeding to carry out a tray. The kitchen looked absolutely filthy from afar and I was so repulsed I left the money and went down the street to buffalo wild wings. Never again will I go back.
Favorite local soup place, friendly staff, eclectic vibe
The chilli was good, very meaty. Service was okay, bit slow for half capacity. A tiny shot of Jameson was $8.
I'll probably go back, but not super impressed.
Amazing Food! One of the top restaurants that lead in the dietary needs!!! The hamburgers are huge and well seasoned. A local hang out with a secret bar upstairs!
