This place has a great atmosphere, a lot of healthy menu choices, and fantastic service. We had a very large group, had fast, friendly service, and enjoyed the whole feel of the place. Would definitely recommend.

This place has changed since moving locations. For the worse, food was cold, service was not existent, had to ask for flatware, drinks etc.. atmosphere was dark and gloomy, poorly lit building.

Unfortunately the food and service has gone downhill since the move. Soups weren't thick and I'm pretty sure that wasn't greek potato salad I ate. Always good cubans tho! Really cool Spook Easy upstairs and we had fun with the German monster that eats bad kids at Christmas!

They say they have the best Cuban sandwiches, even have rewards for it. It was just okay, nothing amazing, nor worth a reward. That's just the beginning.

Service started off great, got the drinks, then we ordered. It wasn't a busy time, there were a bunch of tables, but I'm assuming nothing crazy. Took 30+ minutes to get our food, and not everyone got theirs at the same time. One of which got the wrong side (fixed however).

We had a vegan in the group, and told the waiter "no cheese." Well, it looked like they put it on, then took it off, it was a warm dish, so there was some stuck to the sandwich.

Not done... Come time to pay. Every one of our checks had gratuity included. 20%! For what? Okay service? Whatever, we handed them the bills.

We are now waiting 25 minutes. We ask, what seems to be the manager, what's going on. She mentioned it was the kids mistake, he ran it as a credit charge, when one of us used cash, resulting in a crash of the system. She then told us it will be another 10-15 minutes.

Not a single sorry, not a single drink was offered, nothing. What a joke.

7th ave has way more options for food, go give them your money.

Excellent experience for the $ spent. Arrived with a group of 3 at roughly 1PM on a Saturday. Restaurant was about 1/3 full so expected wait times were minimal.

Pros:
* "Lobsta Seafood Chowder" was amazing.
* Soups are well proportioned and most have 3 different size options.
* "The Real Cuban," also amazing. Even if it's not the best cuban you've ever had, it should be at the top of your list.
* I expected the cuban sandwich to be about half the portion size that it was. To me that was a major plus. If you're going for lunch, it's a meal by itself but you really should try one of their soups while you're there.
* We were greeted at the door and offered a booth table.
* Waitress (sorry I'm terrible with names :/ ) arrived to our table promptly.
* Wait times were almost non existent on this particular visit. Soup arrived within minutes, sandwich followed shortly after.
* Experience with staff was about average; nothing noteworthy but nothing sub par either.

Cons:
* Interior is a bit small (I believe they had a few small outdoor tables too) so they can't accommodate too many patrons at once. This was not an issue during our visit. If you're concerned about finding a table (such as it could be a busy time) then just call ahead.
>> Regarding the small interior, on the flip side it had a bit of a comfortable cozy/homey feel to it. There was no notion of claustrophobia about the place but again, we were not visiting when it was busy.

Obviously I highly recommend this place, especially for lunch. I plan to return at some point to try out some of their other soups.

P.S. - Due to its location (middle of Ybor) you might want to figure out your parking situation first. There are a number of nearby parking garages as well as valet options (not handled by this restaurant) during certain hours.

I was skeptical about leaving a review at first because I don t normally leave them, but I just vomited so I feel obligated to. First of all, the guy seemed nice, Dominic, but he is definitely not a good server. He didn t write anything down and came back to our tables verifying what we got because he forgot. Also, this restaurant should not be serving pho. Period. If they make a vegan pho, all the flavor should be in the broth, which was bland even after I put sriracha and hoisin sauce, which we didn t get with our meals, we had to ask. All of us had problems with our meals, I felt like he misled us with the price of the empanada dessert because he told us 3 dollars when referring to the whole thing but didn t specify it was for the ice cream only, so the dessert was 7.50. My ice cream was already melting, the empanada was burnt, and my friends dessert was NOT freshly made, it was dry to where it seems like it was sitting under a heat lamp, but he insisted it was fresh. We were in there for an hour and 45 minutes, two servers, one bartender, and MAX 3 tables the entire time we were there. I don t know what the hell happened but it was a terrible first time there, and definitely the last. Not recommending this place to anyone, how is this restaurant on 7th????? Honestly baffled.

Food was great as always and the menu options including beer choices was great. The server seemed annoyed to be at work and was hiding out mostly in the small area next to the bar. Table service was not her strong suit. I will most definitely eat here again but hope for better table service.

Found Stone Soup on the internet with plenty of great write-ups, so I gave it a try. WOW! I'm a foodie and this place blew me away. Sarah was my server and was on her "A" game, she was fantastic and offered up several great suggestions for soup and a sandwich. The chilli was some of the best I've ever eaten. I love soup and I certainly will be back to try other. Try it! It's worth the drive.

1. Manager was on the phone when I first walled in didn't notice him.

2. I talked to the cashier, the manager interrupted us and said "what do you want"

3. I asked if he was still looking for a dish washer. He said "no go away" and went back on the phone

had to change my review after my most recent experience which definitely made up for the last time.

The service this time was great, our server was attentive and very helpful. She even gave us a sample of the gumbo which tasted awesome. The previous time I was there, we had the worst service possible and we were the only ones in the place. This time was a million times better-really great.

The people in my party got the Cuban sandwich, Chicken Souvlaki, chili, chili cheese fries and I got the matzo ball soup.

Chicken souvlaki was freaking awesome-so good. I was really jealous that I did not order it. I almost stole it from my boyfriend.

The Cuban looked great and our friend seemed to really enjoy it.

The chili was a little on the thick side but tasted ok.

The matzo ball soup was not great. It was basically just chicken broth with a giant matzo ball in it. I thought the menu said it was supposed to come with chicken but when I asked the server, she said no. (I should have ordered something else)

The gumbo was amazing, incredibly spicy! I loved how spicy it was but a couple people in our party thought it was too spicy.

Overall, I had a great experience and will definitely return. Makes up for my last experience, makes me think the owners really care about what their customers think.

After a stomach virus all I wanted was some good soup. The matzo ball soup was disgusting. Way too salty and the matzo balls tasted extremely old. They also charged us for pint size but didn t give us a pint. I would ve been better off with a can of Campbell s

I had the pleasure of having a double date here and everything was amazing! The empanadas, soups, and bowls were delicious. As a vegetarian it s often hard to find restaurants with quality vegetarian food and I was stoked with all my options on the menu. I hope a manager reads this bc our waiter on 9/30 in the evening (has a solid mustache) was really awesome (much like his mustache). His customer service was great and he made the dining experience even better! I can t wait to come back! (:

In summary, I think the place is better as a bar than a restaurant.

I had the "Deb" sandwich who description reminded me of a Italian sandwich using Cuban bread. When the sandwich arrived the banana peppers were very over powering. I couldn't taste any of the meat.

I also got the "Loaded Baked Potato" soup which turned out to just be a reuse of their "Broccoli" soup with a baked potato drop in it; it was awful.

The wife had the french onion which she said was extremely salty. I tried some of her soup and found it also too salty.

The server was nice and friendly but forgot that I ordered a potato soup and brought us an extra french onion soup. She corrected the error apologetically and gave us a 10% discount. She did pushed the alcohol really hard, which my wife gave in and took a cucumber vodka drink. She said it was very good.

The cuban sandwich is definitely worth trying. The mojo is wonderful they press it but you can have it cold if you like. The environment is hip and the bar is stocked with great craft beers and liquors. Try the Moscow Mule you will not be disappointed. Overall it's a great bite to eat. It's just a little walk down to the end of the strip next to the Orpheum. There is outdoor seating available but definitely take a look at the art on the walls. This place embodies the best parts of ybor definitley recomend.

This is a nearly hidden gem on Ybor City's historic Seventh Avenue. Has been voted best Cuban Sandwich for their traditional Cuban, and they have several variations on it that are noteworthy. Don't let the word soup fool you - there is soup but a whole lot more. There is something here for nearly any taste or diet. Nice eclectic vibe with interesting artwork. Super friendly and attentive staff are top notch. Highly recommend!

Came once for lunch, was great. Came back with the family for dinner a few weeks later and it was a disaster. Good food, but terrible, incompetent service and management was no help. 0% chance of coming back.

I assume like many people we ended up here because we didn't have reservations for the Columbian down the street and the wait was too long. The nice hostess on the patio drew us in and the menu looked interesting enough and the vibe was definitely hipster. We ordered an appetizer of soft pretzels - those were good - they are also just defrosted, heated & served. After our appetizer arrived, we waited another 30 minutes for the rest of our food to arrive: hot wings & a cheesesteak & fries. When the food did arrive the wings hadn't been tossed and were in no discernable wing-like shape (boneless or otherwise). The cheesesteak was ok once you got through the mountain of cuban bread to where the meat & cheese was. The fries while well seasoned were soggy. All-in-all a pretty bad meal. That coupled with the missing service was just a disaster. We probably should have just waited for a table at the Columbian!

Been there many times, the most recent was for a planned celebration. The ownership and staff at SSC are fabulous. They arranged for the space upstairs and worked with us to meet all of our needs. The staff is always great and very personable, ready to do what they need to service customers. The menu never disappoints and everyone we bring always comes back on their own. Continued success, I highly recommend a try for something a little different!!!

Waited 25 mins for our server to come take our order We just paid for our drinks and left. Won t be back horrible service.

Update: the owner took the time to email me acknowledging what occurred and offered a solution. Very professional and we will be giving the establishment another try.

They have a great vibe and a full bar. Right in the heart of downtown Ybor. We had a perfect view of the Halloween parade! The food is delicious and filling, and seasoned with great variety. All their sandwiches, soups, and pasta bowls are incredible. Fresh and healthy! And the drinks are great too :)

Some friends and I went out for a fun night and stopped in for a bite to eat. The over all experience was not great to be honest. We placed an order with the waitress for drinks which came relatively smoothly. After we finished our drinks though we waited over 30 minutes before being asked about appetizers or entrees. The appetizer we ordered mac and cheese bites came out stone cold in the center. I really expected better service for the price. The entrees were good and came out without a problem once we got it ordered.

This use to be one of my go-to spots. I really enjoy the eating here. This restaurant is warm and inviting and its a great place to go on a date. The art on the wall and some of the authentic pieces inside gives you something to look at. The staff are great and the owner is a pretty decent, well rounded guy. When you go try the EX-wives pasta...it is the best. I don't like the some of thr changes to the menu and I'm not sure if the new location is just as good.
