Very good! If you want a "sexy and city" experience worth a visit. The space is beautiful! The menu choices are varied and the prices are nothing special, for the space, service and food I consider it an excellent value for money. The location could not be better in NY's coolest neighborhood. A hint! Always book a table beforehand, you can do it online, but the best (depending on the time of year) is to stroll the high line, enjoy the afternoon in the bars and shops of the area and then end up at dinner there! A real NY experience.

My daughter just had her sweet sixteen birthday party at Buddakan, cannot tell you how great everyone from the waiter to the chef went beyond our expectations. Thank you for making this day so special for my daughter. A great shout out goes to Samantha Chin who was the event coordinator. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Really like this spot. The food is amazing and a really cool environment. May be best suited for a casual dinner with friends and family Vs. A first date.
good food with some interesting menu options. cocktails were not on par with the food. large open space and upscale decor. popular spot, so call ahead.
Very high level meal. The most delicious dishes! Highly recommended. This is our second visit and we were not disappointed. Less recommended - mushroom noodles and sea bass
I need to preface this review with first letting everyone know that I have not actually been to this restaurant. This review is based on an experience my wife had at Buddakan after dining there with a large group and it points out the lack of knowledge of the staff rather than quality of food. My wife is allergic to mushrooms. She is very good at notifying the servers of this allergy when we go out to dinner, particularly if we are in a "shared plate" setting. In this case, she immediately notified the server of her mushroom allergy before being served. They pointed to 2 different types of spring rolls on the menu and told her she could eat one type, but not the other. Another member of the staff came out later on and told her the same thing. They specifically told her it was safe to eat the spring rolls she had in front of her. So she ate them. After she had already eaten one, a third member of the staff came out and said "Are you the one with the mushroom allergy, because you cannot eat that they are made with mushroom truffle oil" At this point it was obviously way too late. My wife wound up paying for a meal that ruined her entire night. She chipped in for her part of the bill and had to go back to her hotel room while everyone else enjoyed a night out for a bachelorette party. On the bright side, ingesting the mushrooms only caused her to projectile vomit all night and she did not have to be rushed to the hospital. The ignorance of the staff at Buddakan is inexcusable. Not one, but 2 members of the staff assured her that the food was not made with mushrooms. She spent a lot of money on a meal that made her sick and ruined the rest of her night. She contacted the restaurant and explained the situation. Michele E. got back to her and told her she would call her to discuss the situation. That was on March 28th. Today is April 7th and nobody has called back. They obviously do not care about the fact that they could have killed her. At the very least we would like to have our money refunded to us which is something they should have offered to do immediately. Instead they chose to ignore her. So here I am on Google voicing my concerns. Think twice about eating here, particularly if you have a food allergy because the staff has no idea what ingredients go into their food. It makes me wonder how many vegetarians have unknowingly ingested meat in this establishment after being told the food did not have meat in it. They could very easily kill someone with a peanut allergy as well. The outcome of this situation could have been a lot worse, and very well can be for someone else in the future who is not so lucky. Complete and total FAIL.
Not your standard Asian restaurant. The food was all Asian based like dumplings or noodles, but had a bit of a fusion twist. We had the course and I enjoyed every dish that was served. They also have a bar onsite where they can make pretty much whatever you want.
The restaurant also was surprisingly large and easily accommodated our group of around 40.
We were very impressed with the food quality and service! Ordered dumpling for appetizers, they were incredible! I got lobster for main course. Original recipe, lightly breaded with rice flower lobster bite size chair, tender and flavorful. Vegetables were delicious, tender yet crunchy, not oily, very light and flavorful. Snow crab was also very good and spicy. Overall I can say that so far it's one of the best oriental restaurants we've tried in NY. Hope the food quality will remain consistent, we'll definitely be back.
huge set up. one of the places everyone has to visit once at least. food as been in consistent at times. but none the less if you have not been here, must visit.
Visited Buddakan few times for drinks and food. Both times were fun though it gets way crowded on Saturday. Food is delicious and drinks are good can be a tad expensive but I guess that's how things are in NYC.
The ambience is like a lot of more trendy places to eat and drink with very low lighting and candles making it a very pleasurable place to be. Staff are friendly and helpful.....more on this shortly.
The food is fantastic and the peppered beef we had was some of the best beef I ve ever had, amazing!!
The waiter was attentive and distantly helpful.....there with you but half an eye on the next task. Nice guy but the devil is in the detail at these prices and reaching across the both of us to pour/spill water everywhere was not my idea of top class service. Everything was all too rushed. All the attentive questions were asked but were distant and void of personal care.
However, tick list place to visit done. Sex and the City done.
I got here because the brother of my friend is chef here. I had an amazing dinner at food heavan with Asian fusion cuisine. Delicious combination of flavour and texture as well as art on a plate. I had dinner by myself and the staff took wonderfully care of me
Buddakan is one of the most-booked NYC restaurants on Opentable and justifiably so. It's unique, huge, and has great food (and cocktails too :-) We had dinner on a Monday evening. It's in the same building as the Chelsea Market, enter though the rightmost door (as you are facing the building). Once you enter, it's like a world of its own inside. We had a table downstairs in one of the rooms. The place was not that filled up when we arrived, but by the time we left both downstairs and upstairs were packed, so you definitely need a reservation.
Had a lovely meal for a friend's farewell dinner. The appetizers were delicious especially the carrot dumpling. Had the whole fish, crab fried rice and cauliflower perfect combination. The server was super nice and let us linger for a few before it got too busy...perfect for late Sunday bunch. I went to the restroom and the large dining area (closed of course) was stunning. Great time and highly recommended
Great atmosphere and Amazing food. Restaurant can be loud depending on where you are seated. A couple improvements they can make There are limited options for vegetarians. Nothing in the main course. The side portions are small. Also the upper level has 2 bathroom that are shared between men and women. The upper level has so many people. Lastly, we did not like the Dessert and found it to be a bit sour because of the cherries, yet they charged us for it.
Much overpriced. Very nice place and decor. But the food doesn't worth the price. I ordered shrimps and lobster, and the shrimps were not even unfrozen, and the lobster was ok but a bit rubbery. At $30 for a dish, you expect to eat fresh food and not frozen one. Moreover, there were no fine flavors as you expect in Asian food. May be back but only for a drink.
The location is very beautiful and evocative. The level of music is very high, this forces you to scream. Waiting times, even with reservations are very long. Costs: $ 60 for three Mojitos and almost $ 700 for dinner (with a $ 50 bottle) for six people. The quality of the fusion / oriental food revisited is for some excellent dishes! For others good.
Attached to the Chelsea Market and this very lively district, The place is impressive and impossible to imagine from the street ... we discover in the center a room with 10 meters under ceiling, chandeliers, libraries ... it's also tricky and sought after on the plate with Asian cuisine. Pot add to the pleasure, the cocktails are very original. The service is impeccable, as soon as you get up from the table, your towel is gently folded.
Beautiful restaurant with very nice staff. Me and my wife just moved to NYC recently and it was our first time dining here. We made a note when we made our reservation that we will be going to see a theatre show afterwards. As soon as we arrived at our table, Marc came over and checked us on how much time we have to get to the theatre. He assured us that our dishes will come out quickly. We really appreciated the attention to detail that the staff puts in. We look forward to coming back to dine here!
Incredible Asian Fusion restaurant. One of the few Steven Starr restaurants to make it to New York. Family style ordering is best so you can sample more dishes. Cocktails are creative and delicious as well. Never had a meal less than exceptional here.
It's a lovely place with an unassuming entry. The food was extremely delicious. They had their own take on traditional dishes and the spin was a total delight. The ambience is very cozy for a place that's huge. It's a good choice for a romantic date. A definite winner this one.
It was an amazing experience to dine here. Being a vegetarian, I am always concerned if the restaurant will have good options but Buddakan had good amount of veggie options. Everything we ate there was superb quality and very tasteful. We tried Edamame dumplings, some cold noodles which were very flavorful. Desserts were mouth watering and their presentation was just very artistic! Of course it's on pricy side but worth every penny!
The place is stunning and the service but the food is ordinary and not special at all just expensive medium level minus We left disappointed and with a ringing in the ears a noisy place at the most exaggerated level I experienced a baby crying in a restaurant and most of it was noise you could hardly hear him crying! A disappointing experience
The food is literally amazing !!! Ambiance is beautiful. I got the chilled udon noodles which i didn't like so much because it has this candy-like strings in them that gets in every bite and sticks to your teeth like jelly beans. It is also cold hence the chilled, so it wasn't really my vibe. My sister got the crab noodles which was so much better so I definitely recommend that !! The coconut curry comes with rice and is absolutely delicious. I don't usually like curry but this was amazing The cauliflower dish was so good also! I would be coming back
Went here to hang out at the lounge and grab few drinks. Service is okay. Pricey. Cocktails are awesome, but can also make you whatever is not on the menu. Tried Old Fashion with Woodford, was pleasantly surprised.
One of my favorite place, good atmosphere, personalized and efficient attention and most importantly the food is delicious. Like my brother said everything is good!!!!!!!!!
If you like a quiet dinner, change your address. The Buddakan is not that kind of Asian restaurant. Here, the music is very present in the atmosphere and the kitchen makes sing our taste buds. The duck is without a doubt the best we have eaten around the world. No doubts, we will come back!

Amazing place, great food, nice staff, fantastic ambience! Can't go wrong with taking a date or friends there. The menu is very well supplied with the black cod being the star dish
Modern fusion cuisine. It can be a little chilly here since most tables sit underground with no windows. The atmosphere is classy and almost fantasy-like. The food is very good. Try unique dishes like Edamame Dumplings.
Amazing place! We were very happy choosing Buddakan for our Saturday night at NYC. Food was delicious, great environment, lovely stuff. Thank you guys!
Spectacular! Very chic atmosphere, with dim lighting and very well decorated. The food very rich. The problem is the wait you have to do even if you go with booking. The staff is attentive and pleasant
Went to nyc for mine and my husbands joint 40th and Buddakan was a must for us, it seriously didn t let us down. Lovely table, staff, service, food and great DJ. I cannot post the pics of our food, but it was just stunning. We loved the atmosphere in there and the overall experience was amazing. I would highly recommend!
I went to this so called fancy restaurant this Sunday as a surprise for my girlfriend birthday. I rate this as the worse customer service EVERRR. I have made a reservation a week ahead of the actual date and when I got there it was just a total mess. They had my girl and I literally waiting for like and 1 hour and 30mins waiting for us to have a table. This is why I called ahead to avoid this. On top of that they sit us on a table that we specifically spoke about over the phone clearly and Still reserved us in the wrong area. Their employees were very improper and unethical, that was really rude and irresponsible of them the way they took care of us on our night. It took me more then 4 times trying to talk to the employees nicely and being patient to get a manager attention to finally resolve our issue. I was also not satisfied with the food was horrible there when they served us. My girlfriend was so unpleasant with everything on how they treated us. I will say that I will NEVER BE COMING BACK TO THIS PLACE I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY BOOKING A SIT AT THIS RESTAURANT SUCKS.
The spaces is magnificent, not easy to find as no real markings, but right next to the ever polar Chelsea Market! Huge busy bar serves a good Dirty Martini. Food very inventive, went for the Peking duck (very good) but was enthralled with the Edamame Dumplings (yum) and the spicy rock shrimp. The experience as good as the food!
We went with a group of 6 people and our waiter was amazing. The setting is wonderful, with a huge room with a long table and chandeliers. Food and wine were great too. I personally loved the calliflowers lollipop!
Expensive! but the drinks are like those i've never tired. So many different interesting concoctions. Food also amazing. A little loud on a Saturday night especially for a date night but a great place to go out with friends.
