How can one not love Buddakan? The vibe, design is beyond words. Food is great but cocktails even better. I don t remember having a bad meal there ever and even coming with no table somehow hostesses always managed to do their best and accommodate. Bartenders are phenomenal! The location is great too. Definitely recommend

A bacchanal of Asian food. Prices get as steep as the staircase to the lower level. Sound levels can be deafening. But the vibe is good and the food terrific.
Very tasty Asian fusion dishes. Atmosphere and layout of this spot is amazing, makes for a great dining experience, even if you're downstairs in 'the library'.
We made a reservation from Italy for the birthday of my girlfriend, unfortunately we forgot her ID card and despite the fact that she is 32, that she dose not look like a 20 years old girl and that we show them 3 different documents (Driving licence, esta and the social security number) on the phone showing them that today was her 32 birthday they did not gave her the permission to drink alchol. They ruined her birthday and the management was unable to understand. The place was packed so they don t care but this is not the way you treat honest guest and tourists. We felt insulted by this cold and unreasonable behaviour
I celebrated my 40th birthday here with 9 of my friends and every single one of us enjoyed it. We had the tasting menu, every dish that came out was outrageous. Our waiter was incredibly attentive the drinks we ordered were all made perfectly and delicious. At the end of the meal they brought out a mix of desserts and the carrot cake really blew me away. We love this restaurant we will definitely be back again soon !
You go to Buddakan for the experience and the scenery. The menu is expensive but it is definitely worth the trip for a birthday or special event in someone's life. If you are going with a large group and can get to use the entire grand table in the middle of the restaurant, go for it. It has a feel and look like no other, and the private rooms and booths are not bad either. Their chicken dishes are really delicious and the appetizers (rock shrimp and dumplings) are good as well.
This place has a great ambience in addition to the delicious cuisine they serve. This is one of the best places to eat chinese food in New York. Reserve your tables as Buddakan has always waiting customers even on weekdays.
Dissapointing experience. The dim sum was good but the main dishes we tried were more similar to Danish canteen stews than what we expected from a restaurant of this reputation. Service was non existing and we seemed to be ignored all night. Two stars since the dessert was great and saved the night from being a complete disaster.
Good food...Be prepared to drop a boat load of money. It's a fun time, but if you want a nice quiet dinner this is not for you. It has a club ambiance to it.
Before I jump to the more extensive review, I want to say that overall we liked Buddakan and it is very likely that we will come back when we are next time in NYC.
Now, please let me explain why 3 starts and not 4 or 5.
1. The atmosphere in the restaurant was not pleasant. The music was too loud and due to that everyone had to talk loudly. As a result, it was very noisy. 2. The tables are very close to each other. We had to move a table so that my fiance can sit, and we had to move a table again when we were leaving so that she can exit. I feel that in the restaurants which aim for fine dining ($$$$) they should pay more attention to the distance between tables and overall privacy of guests. 3. We left with the feeling that the restaurant is generally overpriced. We are not experts in NYC price ranges, but from our experience in other restaurants the prices are more or less comparable to London. Unfortunately, Buddakan is more expensive than Hakkasan, Yatautcha or Novikov in London, despite the fact that food and atmosphere in those is not worse, maybe even slightly better.
The decor is nice and service is great. The crowd is a bit too touristy for my taste. The food didn't impress it was pretty basic so I was disappointed. The one red flag for me was the chili rock shrimp, tasted like buffalo wing sauce that you get at the supermarket. It's a good place for drinks with friends so I'll give it another chance. Maybe the cook messed up the recipe.
All the dishes and cocktails were great. We had shrimp and oxtail dim sum dumplings. Main dishes were black cod and beef short rib. It's very popular but not overcrowded.
No words to describe the beef rib with a sweet ginger crest. Wonderful drinks, and the accompaniment very well served (for two or even three). Would go back a thousand times.
Excellent menu, staff at the top, explanations and suggestions with patience and great kindness. A little flat for the atmosphere a little too dark and a little too noisy, but it's part of this trendy New York concept. Ask the room on the lower floor, for more calm. And book, to avoid a disappointment, because this restaurant is very busy. It's worth it. A very nice experience, for a stopover, if you are in New York.
Love it! We were given a menu where you can try all the different types of food in the restaurant and it was a great experience, we even had the desserts which were delicious. I recommend highly.
I went to my parents without a reservation. I went without reservation. I could go straight in. The menu was Asian fusion, but the taste was okay. Never let the cold udon let me down. It was not very good. The other menus were okay and the taste was small. Recommended staff service was really nice and good Disadvantages are too dark to light up your cell phone can be misplaced
Always top of the line out of the Asian-fusion restaurants in NYC. Still hot after all these years, without an ounce of cheesiness. Gorgeous dining room. Some favorites from the menu that you can't go wrong with: Crispy Spicy Tuna Rolls (not sushi - more interesting), Kung Pao Monk Fish (AMAZING!!!), any of their Eggplant appetizers, and of course their Edamame Dumplings. Great place to go for any reason!
Maybe once you should come here to check it out but definitely not worth coming back. The ambiance is modern but no character. I would not recommend any drinks - someone should really come up with some better drinks - we had the royal, the tranquility and some other type of smoked margarita - each one $18 not worth at all - the food was okay (we had a few appetizers like the dim sum and the ribs - pretty small for $17-20 each and tasteless) - we also had a couple of entrees 1) the beef was good but cold and the mustard sauce is nothing to remember at $40 and then the black cod tiny piece barely shareable for $37 - the five grain rice was good - I have to say service was surprisingly good with nice waiters although drinks took forever (like 20-25min) - total bill for three people almost $300. For this price I will be sticking with other options...
Great food great food great food 1 Special young lady that serves and I can't remember her name I am upset now I've been there three times and I got that lady she's working on the side first come first serve she's so helpful
Expensive but really good food, especially the starters. Would probably only order starters the next time. Big portions and good mix of dishes to choose from. The dessert was also very good and well sized.
What a beautiful place, good vibes, good looking people, friendly and professional service. And the food was very good, dumplings were just perfect. Other dishes were very good as well. Definitely a place to come back to!
This place was highly recommended by the concierge at our hotel, The Renaissance Times Square. Loved the food, loved the atmosphere and loved the quick service. They also had the best bread pudding ever. I would definitely go back again!
Excellent restaurant. It is necessary to book in advance. Efficient and fast service. Asian specials. Amazing shrimp gumbo. The roll of tuna ... and the desserts.
*DUE TO COVID I WILL NOT JUDGE THE SCORE BY THE OUTSIDE DINING*. Overall service is FANTASTIC! and desserts are awesome! But if youre vegan/vegetarian you will be disappointed by the tastless food they give you, so i had no choice by to send my food back and order eat meat instead even tho its not the best thing for my body. But at least the quality of the food is fresh and looks very good, but not the tastiest/best asian food out there. Just like most restaurants in Manhattan, its best if you look for places in brooklyn or queens there are very good quality restaurants outside Manhattan. Even tho we sat outside i managed to walk inside for the restrooms, and wow the inside is wonderful and i wish we could sit down there and enjoy.
Despite having a reservation, the service was not very good. THE PLACE IS FASHIONABLE AND I WAS FULL SO WE WAITED FOR 25 MINUTES TO GIVE US TABLE. THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. I RECOMMEND IT
We love Buddakan. We celebrate all our major events including birthdays and anniversaries at this place. We love the edamame dumplings and carrot dumplings as well as the main courses. The chili king crab is one of my family's favorite here. The ambience is amazing as well as the service. There are so many photo opportunities here including the dining hall from Sex and the City.
