Sonny's Pizzeria Review

Ordered takeout. When I got there to pick up what I had ordered there was a wait for people to be seated. Some tables were still waiting for a server and the 3 at the front had lost track of who needed to be seated next. Once we arrived to our hotel (6 min later) our food was cold. Pizza was doughy, onion rings were soggy, and the garlic cheese bread was hardly that. First and LAST time,

Right by the old bridge in Sturgeon Bay beautiful views of the Bay and to top it off good Italian food I really enjoy the deep dish pizza.

Older lady taking reservations was rude. Wait was over 60 mins for a table and food took additional 30 minutes. Food wasn't good. Looks like a medium high-end restaurant from the outside but a cheap pizza joint on the inside. Incredibly disappointed in service, food and experience.

We were visiting the area and came here to eat after being rained out of our campground. The service was great and the food was delicious, but we were very disappointed in the efforts taken to reduce the risk of COVID transmission. The waiting area is also the pick up area, it's very tight and crowded. Worse, our server didn't wear a mask. I didn't see any disinfecting of pagers or menus either. We're back in town now and will be getting tested solely because of our visit here.

Big menu. The portions are huge. Get the beef nachos. The stuffed special pizza is awesome

Sonny's offers a daily buffet of pizza Thursday they include fried chicken. I didn't have the buffet I had to order their gf pizza. Pretty much every pizza "flavor" they offer is gf. It's a 10" crust for $2 extra. It is prepared in the same kitchen as the other pizzas. I have Celiac and am super sensitive and I didn't get sick. I really enjoyed my pizza. I had their deluxe/ supreme ( I forget what they call it). I would definitely go back next time I'm in door county. The buffet is excellent to I'm told and worth the $8 during lunch hours which is 11-2.

I will not be going back to this place as there were NO COVID precautions. No face masks, no social distancing and the service today was awful. I have health concerns and they did not listen. However they did comp my meal except they then still charged me for the meat in the food. I was very disappointed with the experience. Why do u have a sign on your door about flu like symptoms relative to COVID if you have no intention of taking any kind of precautions? Don t go here. This was the only restaurant during our entire week stay in door county that did not have any respect for COVID 19.

Sonny's makes delicious pizza that ranks among the best in Door County, WI. The second floor dining room offers good views of Sturgeon Bay harbor.

We came with 5 adults & 3 children ordered regular dinners spaghetti & chicken alfredo & kids menu.Waited for over an hour & when i had to ask the waiter how long he just answered its going to be long.We are here for family vacation & have been around different places i can say without a doubt the service is lousy.

We enjoyed excellent salads and pizza. Also, very good service with a nice view.

Our first experience was great in restaurant. Ordered delivery And there was an hour wait which we thought was worth it. Pizza got here cold and undercooked. Ordered a different topping on half a pizza (party size) and only got it on about 3 slices.

Unfortunately, it was not a great experience. Pizza was good, but didn't get what we ordered. Plus an entire tray of drinks was spilled down my back & not even a discount offered. Will not be returning. Sorry!

Have been coming here ever since I was a kid! Love the food and service!

The food was excepent right off the water with an excepent view of the water. First come first serve for the tiki bar seating which is what we did. The prices are reasonable and the selection is hard to pick from since it all looked so good. The pizza crust is crunchy and does not taste like cardboard like some pizza joints.

We love their pizza here, lots of flavor! However they are stingy when it comes to adding parmesan cheese and hot pepper packets to carry out orders.

Good pizza, great cheese curds will be a regular here.

An excellent place to go with the family, the dishes come in excellent portions according to their price. Recommended. The view of the river side is beautiful.

Nice views of the water and outdoor seating. Salad bar was really good. Service was good. Pizza was good..but did not wow us. We ordered the deep dish Sonnys Special I believe...a deluxe pizza. Crust needed some flavor. Next time I will add some optional flavor to the crust. Overall nice dining experience!

We enjoyed a delicious Sonny's Special pizza with the thin crust. Just wonderful!!! Beautiful views of the bay. Server did a excellent job.

Food was good. Waitstaff kept taking masks off. Our waitress was not even wearing one. Pizza was good. Mussels came out cold at first, but were yummy when they brought out warm ones. Enough to make a meal out of.

I would be happier with smaller servings if it tasted good. This is a step below Chef Boyardi and my fat a$& will eat anything.

We had pizza, it was dam good, service was top notch very polite and accommodating. I highly recommended!

Decent food. Seemed understaffed. NOT Chicago style deep dish, though. Just very thick pizza. Drink menu was not up to date and it took a little while to be seated even though there was plenty of tables available.

We had dinner at this large restaurant featuring pizza and Italian meals at reasonable prices. Easy to find, right before the steel lift bridge. Lots of parking. VERY nice decor and many windows with a view of the bay. They have outdoor seating too but the weather was not great on Sunday.

The pizza buffet was not on when we were there but our meals included the salad bar....crisp lettuce and extras to add, all delicious.

Service was fine (Jennifer V.) although it took too long for my beer to arrive. The portions are HUGE...none of us could finish. (We Canadians are always amazed when portions are this big anywhere; not common in Canada. Frankly, I wonder why portions would ever be this big.) All four of us enjoyed our meals.

We would highly recommend Sonnys for good italian food and good value. You will have leftovers for lunch the next day.

Great restaurant in a scenic location. Friendly and courteous staff. Great selection of Italian food favorites. We got there later in the evening and had a bit of a wait, but were rewarded with large portions of excellent food.

Waited 45 minutes for our order which is fine...it's a Saturday night and it was for delivery...however the pizza comes in a bag and ours looked like it flip upside down...all toppings slide from center...mix together on a half and half pizza. Also we ordered a 10" pokey sticks pizza with marinara but got a 14" pizza instead with no marinara...but we don't have another 45 minutes to wait for the correct order. My point is check the pizzas before they leave and put them in a box so they don't get damaged. Pizza flavor was fine.

Delicious lunch buffet. I wished they had more pizzas and greater variety out when the buffet opened.

Had the pizza and salad bar lunch buffet. The pizza was passable, but not great. The salad bar was a big disappointment. Baby carrots, red onion, mushrooms, peas, and black olives are about the only vegetables featured. But if you're looking for a whole mess of chocolate pudding and canned peaches, you've come to the right place. Staff was friendly and prompt.

Great pizza! We ( my family and I ) stopped here yesterday on our way back from Door County. This pizza ranks right up there in my top 2 best pizzas I have ever eaten! My wife got shrimp Alfredo and could not finish her plate! Big portions. Great food, good prices and the staff were Awesome! Definitely will stop here again!

The pizza buffet was pretty meh. But the service was great and the view was incredible. Maybe off the menu would have been better.

Pizaa was excellent! Our waitress was not so excellent. The plates we and glasses we were finished with sat there the entire meal. She even looked at them when she asked how everything tasted. Didn't offer to get us any other beverages when she saw we had empty glasses. Otherwise the atmosphere was great.

The food was terrible. My husband got wings and they were undercooked, the skin was still rubbery which caused the sauce to slide right off. There is no way I could have eaten them. I got a chicken southwest salad. The chicken looked like it came from a school lunch and there was no flavor. Our sever was very friendly and attentive.

Nice location/view by the water. Ordered a deep dish pizza and it was about 1/2hr wait, but was worth the wait. Service was good.

I will have to say that out of all the places I've ordered pizza in Door County over the years, Sonny's tops the list. Why even their Chicago style deep dish pizza is excellent, ( and I grew up in Chicago and love the deep dish ), although Sonny's doesn't put the mozzarella on the bottom of the pizza, then the fixings and finally the sauce on top like the Chicago deep dish, their crust is very good, their version is phenomenal and they can proudly say it's Sturgeon Bay style deep dish! As far as some of these reviewers giving bad reviews and low scores because of the Chinese Wuhan Red Death Virus, they should order for delivery or pickup and then review, not judge the restaurant for something
it didn't start and has little control over. I believe Sonny's is following all the Wisconsin laws that are mandatory. The people who complain and are terrified should invest in some "bubble boy" suits to feel safer while the rest of us carry on with our lives.

The men's room doesn't have a baby changing station, not exactly family friendly.

My wife had the shrimp alfredo and thought it was ok, I got the deep dish pizza which I thought was pretty good. Pretty cheap for as much food as you get, wasn't blown away but wasn't dissatisfied either.

First visit. Pizza was fantastic. Pretzel and cheese appetizer was worth the trip alone. Beautiful scenery too.

The food was delicious, the portion size (pasta) was, indeed, 'enorme', the beers were cold & refreshing, and the service from Mikalya was superb, including filling our dogs' water bowl. We had a wonderful time bringing our fur babies out for dinner, drinks, and live music!

I come from a town with a lot of good and great Italian food and pizza. This was not great, barely good. I found the food to be pizza buffet quality, which I believe it actually is (we were there for a private party). The pizza was okay, good crust, bland sauce. The lasagna was not so good. I thought the sauce tasted like Spaghettio sauce. They just opened their craft brewery. One of the two IPAs was good, can't recall the name. I went to order a flight for tasting, but not available. Seems odd. Service to our party was very good. Bartender seemed bothered by my request, though offered me a couple samples. The glasses tasted like sanitizer. Choices are limited at this time of year here, but I wouldn't recommend this place.

Loved the pesto fries and the lobster raviolis. Beautiful view.

When we ate at Sonny's in the summer, it was great. Great selection of pizza at the buffet and equally great in the salad bar. But this time (off season) the pizza was at best warm and sometimes down right cold.We will still go in the summer for the buffet, but will probably order off the menu the rest of the year.

Great pizza and you can't beat the view. Great that they block the wind on the deck but you can still see the lake. Highly recommend.

Stopped in for a pizza before our trip back home. Brandon was our server and he was very personable and attenive!! Pizza was hot and fresh when it came out and Brandon recommended a red lager that my husband absolutely loved...so he had 2. We sat at a table by the fire, talked with Brandon a little about Packer football and then he was kind enough to take a couple photo's for us before we left. Great service, clean and a friendly environment. Overall experience was 5 stars! We vacation in Sturgeon Bay yearly to celebrate our anniversary and look forward to another pizza next year! Very slow kitchen service and we found hair on our pizza.

We went to Sonny's for lunch on our vacation and loved the pizza buffet. The service and views were outstanding. We plan to come back whenever we are in the area. All the pizza was good, but make sure you save room for the best cherry dessert pizza we have ever had.

Loved the online ordering and delivery was super quick on a weekend, unfortunately thats all the positive I can say... Ordered linguine with white clam sauce... got fettuccine pasta with a tasteless cream sauce. I had to add my own seasonings to it to make it edible. Clams were overcooked and the side salad I got was one chunk of browned heart of the head of lettuce with a few leaves on the side. I thought an italian restaurant would have authentic lightly breaded calamari filets and tentacles, not heavily breaded rings.. The basil chianti vinagarette was good. My husband had the baked lasagna and said it was mediocre at best. I was hoping for so much better...

Waited 2 months to come here from NC, great view, had the sonnys special pizza and two Italian margaritas!

Really friendly staff and nice outdoor seating area. Like others mentioned, staff isn t wearing face masks which I haven t noticed anywhere else. Food is extremely Large portions for the price paid. Food is alright, kind of plain and nothing special but everything was alright!

Service and garlic bread were below average, but the stuffed pizza was great.

Super good pizza and the star if the menu is the Deep Dish. Be prepared to wait for a table especially during tourist season. Highly recommended trying the house beer a Nitro Red brewed by Oso Brewing.

As a native Chicagoan, I must begin this review with the statement that in no way, shape, or form is the pizza they serve, especially the stuffed pizza that they serve, "Chicago-Style Pizza" as advertised.

That said, I must also state that it was incredibly good, delicious even! The sauce was the perfect balance of sweet and bitter, the two extremes that plague so many other place's pizza sauce. The cheese is literally (correct use of this word) the best cheese that I've ever had up on a 'za! It was fantastic! The crust was not the buttery, flaky goodness of a true Chicago-Style deep dish or stuffed pizza, but it was very good as well.

All-in-all, I'm withholding one star because of the forty-mine wait to be seated, and for the false claim of being Chicago-Style Pizza.

Clean your taps!! Chicken wings and pizza (what I had before the waitress boxed up) was good. Waitress was asked if we wanted dessert before having our first piece of pizza and was impatient to leave. Boxed up pizza before done, and didnt confirm we actually finished.

Great pizza and a must stop for lunch/dinner everytime we head home from door county. Great views if you get a table outside.
