Sonny's Pizzeria Review

My wife and I ate here for the first time. I had the gnocchi with pesto sauce and it was the best I've ever had! The gnocchi was light and fluffy, and the pesto had a light oil base with lots of fresh basil. Delicious! My wife had rigatoni with a creamy mushroom sauce. It had lots of mushrooms and was also very delicious! Our meals came with a nice salad bar and breadstick, and were reasonably priced. The atmosphere was also really good. Great selection of beer and wine, and two stories overlooking the bay and Sturgeon Bay River. We will definitely go back!

First time to visit we had pasta and salad very good service and food ,views are nice. Would recommend large beer selections

Excellent service, excellent view, decent beer selection, but sadly, extremely sub par food. We had the anna Capri pizza and the pumpkin ravioli (seasonal special) and they were both rather underwhelming. The pizza was bland, with rubbery chicken, and the ravioli was drowned in a bowl of what appeared to be oil. Would recommend coming here for a brewski with a viewski.

Service was excellent, food was decent. This is not a traditional Chicago style pizza place, though. Anyone who has been to Lou Malnati's or Giordano's can attest to that.

Edible but not good. Deep dish is way too much crust and very little flavor. We were highly disappointed.

I ordered the 2-piece chicken. It was so-so, potatoes were cold with mix gravy, bread was hard and slaw was okay. Pass. Husband ordered chicken fetticcini. Awful, inedible. Looked as if it was reheated. Sauce separated.. Salad bar was average. If you go here...eat pizza. It at least looked good.

Waited 30 minutes for a grilled chicken sandwich that never came.

Sonny's has a nice, pleasant, and yet open and warm atmosphere. We've eaten here a few times and really like the fantastic flavor of their food. Today I had a deep dish pizza and my wife the crab ravioli. Great portions as usual and we left quite full.

Busy pizza place, lots of children! Food was only okay, but drink menu is pretty good.

Living in Sturgeon Bay, I've been here my fair share of times. The food is consistently sub-par. One bite of the pizza and all the cheese and toppings slide off. I also have friends who have worked here, one of which cooked and was put in a managerial role as a teenager, and the stories are genuinely concerning from a health and safety aspect. Re-using crackers from other tables and storing chicken in a trash bin, among various other things. From what I've heard, things have only gotten worse since Covid started. The location is beautiful but if you want a nice meal on a trip to Door County, Sonny's is not the place to go.

Great thin crust pizza, great delivery range in a small town.

We only stopped for a drink or two. ,the place was pretty busy and dis a good job with social distancing. The band was decent and the staff was a bit slow to act.

Fantastic view of the bay and marina while dining. The portions are huge and filling and not too mention tasty. We had trouble getting our server's attention for a drink and the lettuce in the salad bar could be fresher but overall a good place to check out while in town.

My friend and I stopped here to eat lunch. We both ordered deep dish pizza. It was doughy and very undercooked. We mentioned it to the waiter and she said sorry what would you like me to do? I said, I don t know what do you usually do? She said she didn t know and offered us breadsticks. I said no thank you. She went to her manager and he offered to put it back in the oven or give us 10% off our bill. ($1.52) He never came out to look or apologized. An apology goes along way. We won t be back.

Stopped for a late lunch with my son. Pizza was pretty good as was the bottomless cup of coffee. There are good views of boasts and the canal. Service is sophomoric.

We went to Sonny's and sat out on the patio for lunch and music. Everything about our visit was fantastic! Our daughter and grandsons joined us for fabulous pizza and great drinks! The band Subject to Change was playing. They were awesome! Can't wait for our next visit to Sonny's!

Huge portions. Tasty food at reasonable prices. Would have given it a 5 had the floor under the table been cleaned.

We were downstairs in the microbrew. Awesome beer and great conversation with the brewmaster, Trent. We'll be back!

I loved it, the view of the lake was beautiful, the food, was great! I plan to go back a few more times. I recommend it if your really hungry because they give a lot of food.

Pizza was lack luster. It was missing flavor. Service was good.

Very friendly staff! Waitress very patient with our group which included indecisive grandchildren. Her suggestions were appreciated as we had not been there before and did not know the portion sizes. She helped us make good decisions on our menu choices.

Their pizza is good; the pasta is alright. They serve huge portions-- "enorme," as they say. The waitstaff do a pretty good job, considering how busy they get.

The Old Chicago deep dish pizza was amazing. Will definitely be back. Beautiful view of the water.

One of our favorite pizza places. Great food and drinks. And the views, especially at sunset, are incredible!

We were visiting the area and decided to try Sonny's pizza there in Sturgeon Bay. We were told our cheese pizza and garlic bread would be ready in 15 minutes but we ended up sitting and waiting there for 45 minutes despite the fact they didn't have very many customers. We then got to the car and realized our pizza was cold. It was a little too greasy and had too much oregano on it for our taste, but the restaurant itself looked clean and the garlic bread was good.

We were in Sturgeon Bay for our anniversary, and Sonny's was a short walk from our hotel. We had a short wait for a table, but for our trouble got a "buy one/get one" deal at the brewpub downstairs which I also recommend. Once seated we were immediately waited on and our server was very friendly and attentive. We had a fried ravioli appetizer which was great...the texture was perfect (we've had them at other restaurants and they were too chewy). I had the jumbo shrimp which were terrific as well, again good texture (not rubbery) and a great amount for the price. My wife had a fettucini carbonara dish and loved it. My only regret is that we didn't make it back to Sonny's before leaving.

Great wait staff. Decent pizza. A good beer and wine list and a family friendly atmosphere. Outdoor seating seasonally.

Garlic bread with homemade marinara sauce was spectacular. Artisan pizza was delicious. My granddaughter enjoyed the lunch.

Staff was polite and very attentive. Relaxed atmosphere

Love this place. The buffet is a great value and the pizza is really good. They usually have a good variety out on the buffet.

Visiting Sturgeon Bay for the first time. Stopped in Sonny s today for a late lunch, we were seated quickly and our order was taken in a timely manner. Then, two tables who were seated after us got their orders, one table s order was for appetizers and the other table s order was for their meals. When ours finally arrived, my husband s Greek salad with chicken and my chicken sandwich were bland and tasteless and an order of onion rings were barely lukewarm. If we could ve found our waiter, who didn t bother to check on us even once after he served our order, we would ve let him know how unsatisfactory our order was.He seemed quite surprised (when he finally showed up and without our check) to hear me say it was the worst chicken sandwich I ve ever tried to eat and couldn t, he mumbled, Sorry. Then, we even had to ask him to please bring us our check. The moral of this story is don t order the chicken in a Italian kitchen and pizza place.

Pesto fries were amazing! Can't go wrong with their pastas either!!

Family friendly menu and atmosphere, lunch buffet option was great.

Pizza and pasta, chicken, and deep fried shrimp, fish, and appetizers are available for dine in, carryout, and delivery. Good pizza, a little pricey on some items, but overall a good experience. Good for kids, live music outside next to marina on weekends in summer. Nice view of steel bridge.

Nice place. Waterfront. Food was ok, but reasonable.

Do not go here if you have Covid19 concerns!!! 1- There is no social distancing whatsoever. Which I get, however... 2- Did not see any staff wearing masks. 3-By the time we got or food we had noticed what seemed to be middle schoolers bussing the tables, did a very poor job. One table never got wiped down after people left. Another table was sprayed once with cleaner and never cleaned the chairs or the table items (cheese, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, hot sauce). Awesome location, Food was good, but no chance were going back. Very sad.

Walked out to the patio with only two other tables occupied and sat for 30 minutes with no refills and our sandwiches never showed up.

The service was great even though they were very busy. The lobster ravioli was amazing and the pasta portions are huge while the prices are reasonable.

Waited an hour and a half for food and it was terrible! Go to a bar and grill and get better food!

I went to Sonny s with a party of 2. Multiple parties of 2 were sat before us because they thought we had 3. After the almost hour long wait for a table we ordered and 30 mins later we were told our order was lost. we didn t receive our food for another 30 mins. We were told we weren t the only ones this happened to that same night. No manager came over to speak with us after being at the restaurant for 2 hours without food. That is not customary. On top of all this COVID precautions were not being taken. Multiple employees were not wearing masks. And tables inside were extremely close together. Overall, not worth going here.

My husband and I are on vacation and found this restaurant online and decided to stop in and eat. The view is beautiful and the pizza is the best we've ever had. Would definitely stop in again.

Good food, decent prices, live music and beer. Only downfall is you'll find a similiar Irish place in any American city just like this one. If you're tired of the over priced restaurants in Old Town and looking for beer and live music, this will do!!

I love this restaurant ....... It has the most amazing views and delicious food.

Good food, but not one mask being worn by staff, with an open buffet, and no social distancing.

This state baffles me - kids can t play on a playground in state parks but a restaurant can be packed with not a mask in sight.

The bartender was so great! I was totally ignored by the waitresses. He offered to let me sit where I wanted.(I was a lone diner)took my order, refilled my drink without my asking.

Great as always. Asked on the way out it this place was worth the wait... I responded always. Great food great staff.

We are so excited by Sonny's move to the waterfront location. There food is great especially the Lasagna and Pizza. One reason we stayed away sometimes was due to lack of a full bar. This will also be added at the new location. We stay at least 2 weeks in the Bridgeport Hotel and were so disappointed when Applebee's closed. Can't wait to get up there in May and August.

Bar area is small so expect to wait for a drink but not a big deal. Bar staff and wait staff is nice. Food is very good.

We received excellent service from Makayla. The food was priced very reasonably and the portions we're generous.

Great location, friendly staff, clean and interesting interior. By the time we were sat we were so hungry, we all made like bandits to the pizza buffet! The buffet was a fun experience, and there was a deep dish style that our table all liked. Overall for $12 it was a fun and interesting, and our waiter was so sweet on a busy 4th of July night! I do think the salad bar could be improved upon (more toppings that work well on salads), and my "bourbon smash" was very tart and I think was missing a simple syrup/sugar. Either way we left happy with ice cream in hand

Over a weekend in August, there were some very talented bands playing well-known songs. Also, the fish fries are very good and the restaurant has some very great views of Sturgeon Bay.

Food was okay but we waited so long for it to come out to us and we could tell it had been sitting for awhile because it wasn t very warm anymore. We did get a table right away though and they were very accommodating with our child. The views are nice and the drinks are tasty but just a bit overpriced.

there are very few times i don't like a pizza joint, this is one of them. Bread is usually underdone, doesn't taste well, (bland) and is usually crowded, i say avoid it.... the only time i recommend it is if you are too drunk to realize the food is not good or do not care.

Pizza is great. Not such a big fan of the pasta dishes. Would not recommend the fish fry items.

Giving y'all a 4-star. And that's only because I was pulling take out on the way south to Two Rivers. The pizza was on point. The employees up front were all very well mannered. The place was clean and if I hadn't gotten out of there sooner with my order I might have ordered more. Thanks. I look forward to having a seat and enjoying the food and atmosphere in the future.

Food, service, and drinks were all so good here! We felt you really get your moneys worth here. While my husband and I visited the area we went here probably 4 or 5 times. Definitely would recommend to anyone in the area!

Good fish fry. Service was great. The view was very nice.
