After reading a lot of really horrible reviews about this park, I was fearing the worst. I grew up in Texas, so I have a soft spot in my heart for Six Flags. I signed up for a Diamond Elite Membership this year, as I attend various Six Flags parks all over the country when I travel for work. Here s my take on my first trip to the Georgia location:
Parking: I reserved parking online prior to my trip. I didn t have any problems entering, but was kind of surprised to see no guides in the lot after passing through the booth. I saw a sign after handicapped parking for Diamond Elite parking. Only two rows. Both full. Luckily, as I was entering the lot, someone on the next row down was leaving. During my time at the park I saw TONS of people with Diamond Elite lanyards, which makes me think they don t have enough spaces for membership.
Flash Pass: One of the benefits of the membership is a free upgrade on a flash pass at every visit. Meaning, you can buy the Gold pass and get it upgraded to Platinum. I hadn t purchased a flash pass sense it was the size of Catchphrase and you had to go to each coaster to reserve your ride. Now, it s a watch you use to select rides remotely. Since I arrived at the park much later than I attended (too many emails / forgot about the time change from Nashville to Atlanta) I didn t arrive until 2:30 PM. By the time I entered the park, exchanged my printed ticket for a membership card, and bought my flash pass it was 3:00 PM. I did visit on a Sunday, so I m not sure how it compares to Saturday crowds. But I wasn t going to risk not having a flash pass after reading a lot of horrible reviews regarding long lines. With the platinum flash pass, I was able to ride Batman, Blue Hawk, Dare Devil Dive, Goliath (2x), Great American Scream Machine, Mind Bender, Monster Mansion (a must to chill out after riding TOO many coasters in a row), and Twisted Cyclone all by 7:15 PM. I also stopped for about half an hour to eat a pretzel. I m just a thrill rider, so I can t speak to the kids rides. But, the rides were FANTASTIC!
It did seem understaffed. No parking attendants, no one to ask about where to get a map or to give directions throughout the park.
I totally agree that the locker thing is complete BS. I ve never been at a theme park that forced you to rent a locker. However, if you have a flash pass you only need to lock up your items for Twisted Cyclone and Goliath. Which means, just purchase the $1 locker, ride, and carry on with your belongings.
If you re going for the thrill rides, the flash pass is totally the way to go. 100% worth the extra money.
