Centrally located to enjoy all that San Antonio has to offer. River Walk is right downstairs. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the food was tasty and the space was beautiful. The views from our clean, comfortable suite were amazing. I highly recommend this facility.

Although this place is haunted I think it is one of the nicest places you can stay in San Antonio. The members lounge has good food in the evenings and mornings. There is also a pool table. The pool is a little small but feels good on a hot day. Also there is a little museum downstairs in the basement. Kinda creepy at night but there are some cool pictures and facts. You can walk to the Alamo from there and it has a restaurant and bar next to the lobby.

Patrick and his team are highly professional and nice to work with when we are booking our clients a room in San Antonio. The hotel is well maintained both inside and out. It is always a pleasure to send clients to the Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio.

This review is not towards the hotel itself rather than towards an employee of the hotel. I called to speak with the Director of Human resources about a matter that could have been easily resolved and was expecting to speak with a professional. Instead, I was greeted with a horrible attitude and less than welcoming Hello. She sounded very irritated and tried to rush my concern. I am very upset with the way I was spoken to and expect much better treatment considering I was speaking to the head of HR. I will not list her name because I am not as bitter as she OBVIOUSLY was but her attitude definitely needs to be checked asap.
I would rate this disrespectful woman 0 stars if it allowed me too.

Over priced

Over priced
showers suck
pool is small
breakfast price is too high
coke machine charges more than what is marked parking is extra also.

I am an SPG Gold Member and was absolutely stunned at the poor quality of this hotel. The lobby is nice - and the bed was comfortable - and it ends there. Internet was spotty at best, and when connected, did not allow adequate business practices. The shower head was from the 1980's - towels sparse and thin, toilet paper was the quality of an office building. Tiny TV's for the size of the room.

Ordered a pizza at 8:15 and was told 30 minutes. When there was a knock on my door 2 hrs later, I politely declined the meal - since I was in bed for the night. No apology. No credit. No "let us make it right" - nothing.

If you are SPG, stay at the W downtown for a much better experience. Will never stay here again.

Ron at the fromt desk made a fantastic first impression of the hotel. He was so kind and accommodating to my family. Our room was clean, service was great, and the breakfast in the morning had something for everyone. We look forward to our next visit.

For having such a famous history this place was a dump. Also they had someone else's blood on our sheets. We asked them to come and change them as we were leaving for dinner. There was still blood on the sheets when we got back. Don't stay here. 5/17/17

Getting things done at the business center is not easy. Apparently, according to the desk clerk it has been out sourced to a different provider. So, if you are like me and need to present a document that tells them you get a special rate ..print at home. Otherwise a great stay! Huge room, comfy bed, feather pillows on request. A totally historic!

We had the most wonderful time staying at the Sheraton Gunter. Everyone was so friendly and helpful from the moment we drove in the the minute we left. My husband and I enjoyed visiting with all the staff! We were greeted with genuine hellos from all. The front desk staff was so kind and polite. The manager answered all our questions and even visited with us about the history of the building (I love old buildings). The valet gentleman got us our car right away and wished us safe travels. When you have so many places to choose from, the little things make all the difference! This was our first time to stay and we will definitely add it to our list of hotels to return to.

The Gunter is beautiful with spacious rooms and excellent staff! They are also pet friendly! They are in a great location within walking distance to the river walk and the Alamo! I'd highly recommend it!!!

Where do I even begin with this nightmare of a hotel? My future husband and I booked this hotel for our wedding of 11/01/2020 with David. We chose them over The Menger due to budget and overall look. Not only did it take them 4 weeks to take my deposit but David eventually quit in January and no follow up was told to us until we decided to take engagement pictures (Red flags from the beginning).

Fast forward to March 2020 when Daniel became our new wedding coordinator without any sympathy of having to meeting a new coordinator and try to plan a wedding during COVID he immediately requested us to pay since David did hold our payment agreement correctly (not our fault but their lack of accounting and staff.). Another red flag we should have cancelled but again due to contract reasons we just decided to stay.

July 2020 I speak with Daniel again following up on the wedding and if we could still have our wedding of 150 guests or less. Daniel "Confidently" stated of course we are having a wedding this month and we see no near future issues on why we would need to cancel your wedding. I was less concerned and made our payment everything seemed fine and good to go and I mailed our invites out.

September 1st,2020. I emailed Daniel following up since we are now 60 days out from our wedding and he asks for my vendors list so he can reach out times for them to view and we finalize our wedding dinner menu. Everything seemed great till Friday September 4th,2020 Daniel asks I call him off his cell phone since he is out of the office for the holiday weekend (convenient timing). He proceeds to tell me they are cancelling my wedding due to low staff and will be refunding me. 24 hours after he led me on about my menu and my vendors just to cancel on a holiday weekend (EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL). Daniel stated they had to "convince" a "nicer" hotel to take us and that was the only compensation they could offer (How pathetic/ unprofessional wording).

58 DAYS they cancelled my wedding 58 DAYS before and no this is not COVID related because I work in accounting they would have forecast low staff well over 120 days in advance.
San Antonio future brides or even vendors stay VERY FAR away from this unprofessional establishment. Not only did just the wedding coordinator break this bad news not a single person from management has called to apologize for this inconvenience.

SAVE YOUR MONEY. They will change the price of your wedding multiple times and keep adding things little by little. Very shady and does not deserve any San Antonio wedding at

Very small rooms. We had a big hole in the ceiling above the shower which sheet rock and other debris would fall out throughout our stay. The swimming pool was very dirty, I doubt that it is cleaned daily or even weekly. Our room didn't have a mini-fridge or a microwave but for some reason had a small safe in it, I am pretty sure San Antonio isn't a casino/gambling town. Very disappointed for the amount of money they charge to stay here

Paid for the weekend, went down to river walk and came back to our room and it was just filthy.
Inside of the blankets was huge amounts of stains.
Towels were still dirty
Beds made my gf break out in hives

So I ended up leaving the hotel in the middle of the night because it was so uncomfortable and disgusting!

Attended the Texas association of African American chambers of commerce breakfast. The hotel was clean and hospitable. The food provided was well prepared and laid out. The staff were attentive without being bothersome. They helped the event run smoothly.

-pre-arranged early check in. Was told early check in was ready, (nope) had to take a pet friendly room instead.
-Went downstairs to MOH to pickup a few things, my wife and I waited over 5 minutes for someone to come to the counter the ring us up. (And 4 other staff members made eye contact with me so they knew we were there), so after waiting I said excuse me is their someone who can ring us up? Then a short young lady comes around holding her hands up as to say, hold on or easy . So I guess they come when they want to check you out and don t man a station. Wouldn t be a big deal if it was so long.
-No hot water in room, had to call for engineer, large toilet seat does not fit the small toilet (lol).
-Card readers did not work to open pool area, went back down to re-key, back up to pool, still did not work, called for engineer. Waited by pool door for over 20 minutes (he never showed).
A plus...bartenders are nice!

Was attending the Lighthouse For The Blind Art in the Dark fundraiser for the children. The art pieces were cicered so the bidders had to touch them through adark colored napkin...or, by reaching under it. It was a very powerful "touching" experience, to "see" through the children's blind eyes. The location was light and bright and loads of fun was had by all attending. They must have made a lot of monney for the children. The only problem I noted was that it was easier to get in than to leave when it was over. A little moe plannig or personell may well have helped expedite the clearing of the garage. Otherwise it was a marvelous event held in a very historical San Antonio, old hotel. ALL

Staff is rude and hung up on me when I called from the room. Internet is so slow it s not useable, plumbing is VERY old and the bed wasn t the usual cloud-like pillowy but instead scratchy and heavy.

Also, I m a platinum member, no welcome gift or upgrade. There are 3 other marriot properties in 2 blocks. Stay at ANY OF THEM INSTEAD OF HERE.

Had my wedding reception and stayed at the hotel for the wedding weekend (along with about 30 other guests). Everything worked out as expected, or even better than expected. Staff is very professional and courteous, the hotel is very clean and looks wonderful and best of all is the hotel's location. If you're thinking about getting married in SA, this should definitely be one of your options. They are remodeling their pool right now for those who are looking forward to taking a dip...

They didn't extend our request for late checkout. The TV was too far awayfrom the bed and the picture was dim and had no way of changing the brightness. The layout of the bathroom was weird bcuz it seemed like it was an open floor-planned bathroom. The toilet seemed like it was too small for the open "room" it was placed in. The room didn't get as cold as we wanted. The location is good. But for a 4 star hotel... I would have expected better. It's decor was nice but u can tell it was an old building with nicely painted walls. It gets a "meh'

It is an older hotel but that is it's charm. The common areas are great, the Market for breakfast is just what you need and bars and food are great. The Blues bar has excellent cocktail and unsurpassed atmosphere. The cheese plate and dishes at restaurant are great .
Most of all the location is unbeatable and the staff are amazing.......and who doesn't love a good ghost story.

Worst hotel, the value more than 300 usd does not worth what you get.a 10 by 15 feet, an old peeling bath tube, a falling curtain pipe, an old smelling carpet in the rolm and in the hall, not sure if the blankets were clean blankets.

Wind-Down Wednesday was a packed house! I learned about new boutique alcohol brands, enjoyed great affordable cocktails, and listened to jazz all while supporting a good cause. Bar 414 at the Sheraton Gunther hosts this event once a month to fundraise for a local non-profit. I will definitely be back next month.

This is an older property, which has been recently upgraded. The rooms are a bit older and the air condition system is not that good. Overall the property was fairly nice. The staff was friendly and courteous. The hotel definitely has historical value and was pretty interesting staying in a hotel that was built so long ago. It is centrally located in downtown and is around plenty of attractions. The cost is very good and would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a historical hotel in the downtown area.

Beautiful historic hotel. The staff could have been a little more friendly, they were obviously stressed out (although they didn't really seem to be that busy). The Market on Houston Restaurant Hostess refused to seat us for Breakfast Sunday morning; we got there at 10:12am and she very rudely said that last call for the buffet is at 10:45. I very politely responded that we would only need 5 minutes to grab a plate of food, she then advised she did not have a table (although the table we sat at the morning before for breakfast was open as well as the one next to it). The rooms are nice and clean, the bathrooms are small, but we had expected that considering the age of the hotel. Fantastic location as the River Walk is just across the street and they are pet friendly (cats and dogs) and do not charge a pet fee. Just beware of huffy staff (LOL).
