He explained a few things to me during his visit, answered my questions, and recommended I replace something that was not working properly which I agreed to do because I trusted him. UPDATE: November 18, 2014
Very disappointed in Shavitz follow up service. In mid-September when Chris came, he tightened the union bolts on each of the radiators. He also schedule an appointment with a tech/project manager (Joe) to come out to further assess the radiators. This is what Shavitz told me would happen when I paid them $104 for the original visit in September. As part of the $104 payment, a tech/project manager would be scheduled to come out to assess what repairs were necessary and quote the cost for completing the work. The day before the appointment Joe called to say he was canceling the appointment. Based on a couple of photos Chris sent him he thought that because I lived in a condo, the work required might go beyond my responsibility and he didn't want to "open up a can of worms". I told him it would be OK to wait until the heat was turned on so we could confirm if the work Christ did resolved the problems. I also asked him several questions so that I could talk to the condo association's property manager in case the problem was a bigger issue and possibly the association's responsibility. He said he would talk to his supervisor to get answers to my questions and call me back. I never heard back from him. When the heat was turned on in early October, both radiators still leaked. One radiator had an obvious crack on the union valve (which I'm surprised was missed on the original visit) and the other radiator, which was originally leaking from the steam trap end, was now leaking from the valve end. I called Shavitz to update them on the situation and asked if an appointment could be scheduled with a tech/project manager, as part of the original $104 paid in September. I called three times and never received a return call.

When I didn't hear back from Shavitz, I spoke with one of my neighbors and she gave me the name of another company she had worked with this past summer. They came out, assessed the problems, sent me a quote and did the repairs all for under $300. Everything is now working fine, but no thanks to Shavitz. Unfortunately I would not call Shavitz again and definitely will not recommend them. It may not be the case, but I can't help but think that once Shavitz got my $104 they didn't feel the need to follow up as promised. If I could I would rate the NO STARS.

Great friendly service - professional and accommodating! Brad was great and he explained the work thoroughly and did a terrific job (in difficult circumstances...as our house tends to though in a few curve balls)!

Henry was our technician performing the maintenance. He explained the the items that he noticed, causes and provided recommendations to me on what needs to be done.

I've been a homeowner for 20 years and it can be a challenge to find good contractors. Not a problem with my HVAC though. I've been using Shavitz since the start, and I won't make the mistake again of going anywhere else. These guys are dependable, knowledgeable, considerate, respectful, and trustworthy.
Ramiro was out today for our yearly maintenance on the AC unitand discovered a wiring issue that would have cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars had it been allowed to keep festering. For a relative few bucks to replace a melted melted (that I now have in my hand ) I was able save tons of money I would have had to spend if the AC had gone out mid-summer. Phew!

Shawn performed semi-annual maintenance and was extremely thorough and conscientious. He is super knowledgeable and explain things very clearly. He is friendly and takes his job seriously. I want him to maintain my HVAC always!

Krzystof K provided excellent and highly competent service when giving my furnace its annual check-up. He answered all questions and explained what he was doing, and the reasons for it. I recommend the company and Krzysztof K in particular.

Cornelius is skilled and explains things so that they make sense. When we make an appointment with Shavitz we specifically ask for Cornelius because he is trustworthy and has the knowledge needed to do the job correctly on the first time. He is also fair. If I could give a higher rating I would.

Shawn arrived to my home and properly identified himself and asked permission to come in. He was very friendly and and told me what he was going to do. He was efficient and professional. Greg M was my sales guy and he was amazing. I had gotten 2 other quotes to replace my HVAC system and Greg was the only one who actually looked at all my existing equipment before giving me a quote! He was extremely helpful and patiently explained the process to me, as I had many questions. Greg even came to my home the day of the installation for a couple hours to make sure everyone was on the same page. Wow. Jose and Manny installed my new furnace and AC units. They were very polite and extremely efficient. Besides the fact that I needed to pay for a new HVAC system, it was a great experience! I have and will recommend people to Shavitz. Great service without all the nonsense of other companies I've dealt with.

Samuel did a very thorough Summer maintenance checkup. He followed up on special requests that we had and also had good advice regarding future maintenance.

Ernie did a great job, arrived on time, was considerate enough to put on shoe covers and finished repairing our air duct very quickly. Would highly recommend.

From my first phone call to the completion of service to get our Furnace working correctly working, it has been great. The service man, Ramiro was exceptional in walking us through the problems. I went to this company because of their good reviews. I can't rate them high enough.

For annual inspection and cleaning A/C unit. I didn't buy my units from Shavitz, but went with them since they donate to the congregation. I'm glad I did. Gus encouraged questions about my unit-and is green, and so is the company.
When I had my unit(s) installed by another business-the installer released older freon gas into the air before installing my 80% efficiency unit---I live in a small quad.
Gus understands that my units is an investment, tweaked it by EPA standards-I think my units and parts will last long past the warranty.

Sam was here on time and was in and out in less than 1/2 hour. Very efficient!

The service technician Nathan who came to our home for our AC Maintenance was excellent. He arrived on time, was respectful of our home, was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Would definitely recommend.

Shavitz is great! Never have any issues setting up appointments. I use the pre-pay system for yearly cleanings. Shawn Bensinger has been doing our heating/cooling work for the past 2 or so years. Great work and very professional. I live in a condo with baseboard heat. They accommodated my same day non-emergency request to come and look at my heat the same day. I called at around 11:30am and they gave me a 1-5 time slot for that same day. They called about 10 before they arrived. Krzysztof and Chris listened to what I had said about my horrible previous experience with another company and that I had replaced the batteries I my thermostat and set it very high to see if it would warm up but it was still cold. They took out many tools and started testing everything. They figured out the problem was the circuit board in my thermostat. The previous company said it was something else that would cost $675. Kris and Chris were able to replace my thermostat for under $300. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars wss that over the phone they said they would give me $20 off the estimate since this was now my second estimate. They confirmed this in person but when I looked at the receipt they didn't take off the $20.

We called Shavitz to report a problem with our heating that started when we recently installed programmable thermostats. Two out of three zones in the house worked, but not the third. When Cornelius arrived, he quickly diagnosed the problem in the wiring. Within ten minutes of his arrival, we had heat again in the main floor of our house.

Great service from David. Very Knowledgeable, explaining step by step his work, offering solutions and tips. Even gave us tips on how to use a mix of water and vinegar to keep the water catcher clean. Excellent service, very courteous, very mindful with putting his shoe protection on, and kept his mask on at all times. Shavitz never fails me.

David D did a great job of servicing our current furnace/boiler combo and also let us know potential upgrades that we could consider for future maintenance. He was punctual and pleasant. Definitely would recommend both him and Shavitz to our friends and neighbors.

Jason serviced my central air system. He cleaned aand tested the compressor , checked the furnace filter and tested the system for adequate pressure. He was curteous, on time, thorough and made some suggestions as well as offering to come back and test again when the outside tempreture is warmer. I was very satisfied with his service.

We had an emergency situation and Shavitz was on it! Prompt response, careful service NO hard selling. Took care of literally everything. You can probably find someone cheaper but cheaper isn t necessarily what you want when hiring someone to install a furnace. Shavitz was reasonably priced (we did shop around). Exactly what we needed!

Cornelius was friendly and knowledgeable. He came for a simple thermostat installation replacing an older one. But in a 100+ year old house very little is simple. He was able to pinpoint an issue that began sometime in the prior month that was keeping the furnace from even turning on. He then consulted with me regarding how I would like him to work around the problem to do the installation. He also provided some great information on my furnace that will be helpful for years, and showed me how to add more wireless sensors for when my basement is remodeled.

I always ask for Brandon to do my bi-yearly a/c and heating maintenance; he always comes prepared, is very knowledgable and asks me if i need any additional help or questions answered. By him coming twice a year, he is already familiar with my a/c and heating systems and knows exactly what parts (or problems) need addressing.. He is very meticulous and i would highly recommend him for your service "go-to" guy!

Shavitz has been servicing our cooling and heating needs for the past five years and I've been very satisfied with their service. The mechanic's (especially Shawn) are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful as they explain their process as well as any areas of concern. He was timely and diagnosed the issue(s) immediately. The folks at the office are very friendly and courteous. The office worked well to keep us updated on service repair dates and options based on the weather. Highly recommended.

Ramiro showed up to deal with non functioning AC. It wasn't cheap, but it was absolutely worth the expense. He is clearly well trained and his early prognosis (failed coil) bore out. He's super clean, clear in his communication, and expedient. He was able to answer all my questions with regard to repair history and warranties. (The company keeps excellent records). I'm definitely having them come out again to perform the repairs he recommends. I got a great discount for being on their scheduled maintenance program. Now if only I could get paid for my review! :)

Krzysztof is awesome. He had been to my house before to do my annual maintenance and he remembered my house and my boiler. I have an old boiler and it turns out it was malfunctioning, which was no surprise to me, as it had not been working well for the weeks prior to my appointment. Based on the issues he found during his inspection, he expected that I would need to replace 4 parts and with the parts and labor, it was going to cost over 1k. When he came back with the parts to do the repairs, he found that 2 of the parts he ordered really did not need replacement. The bill went down significantly. I appreciated his integrity and his hard work. Last night, our heat was better than it had been in weeks. We slept well because the heat was perfect and I know that the technician who did the work was skilled, honest, thorough, and professional.

I had Manny and Vlad at my house all day replacing an air conditioner on my roof. I could not be happier with the job they did. Every time there was a problem they went about solving it and there were no extra charges and no short cuts taken. We called Shavitz as an emergency on Saturday night. Jose came on Saturday and reviewed the furnace. We had no heat because the blower motor was shot. Jose reviewed the options and costs and we decided to wait until Monday morning for the repairs to save money. Jose came at 7 AM Monday to insure we would have heat Monday morning. Jose was polite, knowledgable, helpful and calmed our fears about waiting until Monday. Our furnace was repaired by 9AM and we are very thankful to Shavitz and Jose.

Krzysztof K. could not have been nicer or more helpful. He clearly explained everything that his servicing of our air conditioner unit would involve, and he identified a potential problem with amperage spikes when the compressor turned on and provided a solution to that. I would fully commend him for his work, and for Shavitz in general.

Linas and Mario were very friendly and professional. They were very patient answering all my questions and they did a great job installing my new furnace.

He wouldn t walk into my house without shoe covers and was extremely professional and courteous the whole time. He showed me photos to explain what the issue was and how to solve it. The price for the visit and fix were made clear from the beginning with no hidden fees anywhere. I d highly recommend to anyone with a similar emergency or even a routine check.

When we had a problem with our new AC system, I called the company. Kevin was at my door an hour and 15 minutes later, fixed the problem (loose wire) and instructed me in the ways of the new smart thermostat. Knowledgeable and professional. Thanks!

We have a new ventless fireplace in the living room. It s also where the thermostat for our 3 flat condo building is situated. Bronson from Shavitz helped choose the correct set up to keep the thermostat in the living room and add a sensor to control it in another room not affected by the fireplace heat. Then Neil, who I will always ask for as a technician, came promptly at 8am on New Year s Eve day, and got us set up with no fuss. He was especially good in tracking down some needed wires down in the basement in a nest of wires from a 1912 building. Great job all around! Many thanks!

I had another good service call from Shavitz. Ramiro S. arrived on-time; he was friendly, courteous, capable and efficient. He verbally confirmed exactly the service he was going to perform before commencing work. Then, when he was finished, he carefully explained the work completed and his testing and quality check process. He also explained the bill and showed where discounts were already applied. All in all, I've been very pleased working with Shavitz. Five-stars!

He came out really late last night, found a problem and a solution quickly explained everything he was doing. Gave different options and his help in my situation was refreshing for a millennial. Give that man a huge raise he deserves it.

I asked for a representative from Shavitz heating to come to my new home and give me an estimate for a new mini-split A/C system. The sale person that came to my home was friendly and polite. He presented himself as a straight-forward person that would give me an honest estimate for the work. The estimate I received was simply an email with a price. I can say that the price is easily 2x what other HVAC people have quoted me for the exact same system, with the same supplier components.

I was a little taken aback, so I requested a detailed estimate including the estimated labor and material costs associated with the quote along with the exact model numbers of the equipment to be used. The sales person responded curtly, suggesting that the manufacturer information (again, in a single-line text format as if written on a phone) was enough and that they use an application to generate quotes and that he could not provide me with a detailed quote.

After this I once again pushed the sales person to go through the estimate in a line-by-line fashion so that I could appreciate the work they were estimating needed to be done, so that I could make an informed decision on which HVAC specialist to use. I don't mind paying for good service or better equipment, but I can't sign onto an estimate that is literally just a single price without even a pre/post-tax estimate.

The sales person responded very curtly this time thanking me for considering them and refusing to supply the requested information. Again, I don't necessarily mind paying a higher price, but this type of low-information estimate tactics is a very dishonest business practice.

This approach is meant to take advantage of the young first-time home buyer and the elderly and it is down-right sleazy.

You should not use a contractor that will not supply you with a detailed estimate of labor and material costs. This is a core principle of good business and as such should be addressed by Shavitz HVAC.
