The manager was very helpful in finding us a room ...

The manager was very helpful in finding us a room when we arrived earlier than the normal check in time.
The pool staff were very attentive.
We had a wonderful meal in the Vietnamese restaurant. We were very impressed by Christian Bronola.
All in all an excellent experience.

The hotel formed the perfect first impression of UAE for me. Karlina at the front desk was kind and proactive about helping me activating the app on my phone and giving me a late check-out by observing my dept flight time, without me even having to ask. Suraz at the concierge desk was kind and patient with my questions and made good recommendations, and Amir at the Concierge desk patiently made phone calls to remove my anxiety about the Etihad limo pick-up time. He even proactively printed my new e-ticket. The cleanliness of the room was perfect - the towel was soft and didn't smell like bleach. I enjoyed the subtle scent of soap each time I walked back in my room. And the cleaning staff I ran into gave friendly smile. I really value these details. The view to the Grand Mosque of the room of course was dazzling as well. I enjoyed my time at the hotel better than anywhere else and it was a little heart-breaking to leave. Hope to come back to see the same quality as offered today.

We came for my birthday and booked it at the hotel. We had the pleasant surprise of being upgraded to residences. Everything was perfect (cleanliness, comfort, big apartment) very friendly staff and attentive (beach attendant present and very attentive, concierge very competent and efficient.A stay unfortunately too short we will return.

Very good and friendly service. All restaurants and bars are first class. High flexibility with individual requests.
Those who want to eat or drink out can find something for all their needs in the "Souq" right next to it.

Beautiful hotel and my room was gorgeous. The only thing is the mattress was too too stiff for me.
Breakfast a lot of choices but it was over crowded and sadly when we got our table it wasnt clean nor was there any utensils. They brought my tea cold.
Shang restaurant very nice staff but food was OK and over priced especially the bottle of still water. Insanely overpriced

We have stayed about four times at your hotel in A...

We have stayed about four times at your hotel in AD and this one was the worse ever. We came back thinking we would experience what we have the last few times.

It is evident that either the recession has already hit UAE or is a sign of that it will soon.

1. The facilities look tired:
2. Paint falling off the walls inside and outside.
3. Tiles missing off the floor of the pool.
4. The carpeting in the hallways leading to the rooms look really worn out.
5. It is still ridiculous that you still have a tiny television which is not proportionate to the distance from the bed. Either remove the TV all together or get something that you can actually watch while sitting in bed.
6. By now, you should have all rooms equipped with a nespresso machine and not instant coffee bags.
7. The buffe is sad. We wanted to invite some friends from AD for a buffe and it was just very mediocre. The fish and seafood was not good at all. The cheeses had been sweating so that there is no fat in them at all. The macaroons were hard as rocks. The ice cream was as if it had been melting and been frozen again. The list is long but I will stop here. Our friends were very disappointed and could not believe that they would actually charge us for such a miserable state of the food.
8. Make sure your beach area is cleaned properly... disappointing to see plastic caps and plastic bags on the sand and in the water.

Lastly, a lot of the good and professional team you had previously at your hotel in AD are gone. This time they were far from attentive and friendly.

The only part of the hotel that looks somewhat of a "5 star" is the lobby and lounge area.

The rest of the hotel is just a strong 3 star or weak 4 star hotel.

It was a waste of our vacation to stay at your hotel... money wise and our time.

Me and my husband had a fabulous time here, it is in a beautiful location. We got a view of the grand mosque it was gorgeous. The gym facilities were amazing. We had access to the executive lounge which was great and a nice start to the evening. I would highly recommend and would go back. Thank you!

Loved it. Our stay this time again underscored why...

Loved it. Our stay this time again underscored why the Shangi-La is our favourite hotel group wherever we go. Staff are always remarkable, friendly, go the extra mile and happy. The standard here was as high as always and the food quite outstanding. The evening buffet, particularly, is a highlight. One evening the chefs drummed in a beautiful fresh tuna which they then served on the sushimi counter. With a view over the Grand Canal of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque from our room location was amazing. Just perfect. Highly recommended.

I don't think I will be back to your hotel again i had very bad experiences with my room it was very smelly they offered me on the 2nd day another room but it was the same case even I v told them I will just stay in my room I been to u hotel maybe more than 4 times and I am really concerned that you quality of service it's down grading

Not the best Shangri-la Hotel we have stayed in. Despite advising of our early over night flight arrival from London when we made the booking , we had to wait three hours for our Horizon Club Room and was immediately presented with a Hotel Bill for additional Taxes - a nice welcome.
The room was fine and the Horizon Lounge we loved . The Staff in there were great and the service excellent. We particularly appreciated the Two Hour Happy Hour and the great "canopies" - more like Buffet.

As for the design of the Hotel and its facilities I feel it is outdated if you wish to attract the more discerning customer who wishes to stay for a week / two week holiday - and more suited to a short stop over.
The weekend offer of a Buffet Lunch and use the pool facilities, meant the on Fridays and Saturdays the Infinity Pool and Infants Pool was full of screaming and scantily dressed teenagers getting drunk on cocktails with no appreciation of local customs and dress codes. Not a great experience for Residents.

We thought that the Pool area was looking tired, not to mention the condition of the closed ' Pearls and Caviar' building in such a prominent position - totally out of context with the rest of the resort.

The general feeling was that you were aiming for the mass market and that not enough attention was given the the Premium Customer e.g a Private Beach / Bar .

However, the staff were great and always helpful - a real credit to your Training

I willl explain the 2 stars (based on my experiance) below the rating.

*Summary of my rating 1 to 5
1. Staff: 5
2. Cleanliness of villa: 2 to 1
3. Pool Privacy: 1
4. View: 4
5. In dinning food: 3
6. Facilities (Souk, Spa): 5
7. Entertainment (TV): 1 (no signal, quailty was 0)

I booked for the family Villa it was nice and cozy, "private" pool which is completely false advertising. Just go on balcony and see what i mean.
So first night after we arrived all of the sudden my family starts itching like crazy the living room was infested with "white insects" looks like terminates.. they were all over the fruit that they brought and my kid ate of them.. had to rush them to pharmacy and buy Antihistamines to reduce the itching..
I asked the butler to move us to new villa since this one is no good. He says not today , tomorrow ill move you.. what to do? Right anyway
I wait for next day
My family was moved and upgraded to bigger villa with original price (extremely nice of them) i went to manager to discuss what happened and asked for first night to be removed from bill she said yes.
The new Villa was nice and all, but again infested with cockroaches all over the ground floor (especially the bathrooms)
So my family wanted extra day and we asked for it and they gladly gave us
And got a big discounted rate because of the inconvenience.
Anyway
Another thing happened where my family were swimming with "privacy" curtains which flys with any wind.. and open between each sheet (weird design for privacy) i was on balcony and saw one of the employees peeking through the bushes at the pool..
I rush down and the guy went away..
My overall experiance was really bad
I talked to manager about it and all he offered me is the discount and what the other manager said about cancelling the first night from bill was false.
He tried so hard to convince me that the insect infestation is very normal and should be expect... really?? After all of what happened i got discount for 1 night thats it

I've stayed here a few years ago but unfortunately for me it was a quick meeting, the staff are always helpful and the hotel is impeccably kept, the views of the mosque from the back of the hotel are stunning, if your ever in Abu Dhabi I would always recommend a stay here.

The hotel is as one would expect...gorgeous, beautifully decorated and very hospitable staff. Their view is absolutely lovely.

I haven't stayed at the hotel but I have been to their restaurant and also had the unique opportunity of availing their generosity to paddle on their premises with my dragon boating team.

Hotel and serviced apartments with Souk in the middle with a boat taxi.
Right opposite the Grand Mosque which looks amazing at night.
Hotel gets busy on the Friday/Saturday weekends with ex-pats and locals. Buffet for dinner is great value including lobster, oysters and sushi. There is development going on across the river which is unobtrusive and will go on for a year or two and, l think, will block the view of the mosque. Would return. Pics of the Great Mosque.

Nice hotel, gets busy at the weekends thus the valet parking can be a timely wait at certain hours of the day. Resturant food is nice, but often servers unfortunatly let them down due to miscomunications. Has a nice beach which does not get too busy although the pool area is quite small and does get quite busy at any given time throughout the day. Guy facilities are ok, there is not heavy dumbells amd no cable machine which was a but disapointing for a long stay in which i had. Saying this I will most likely be staying here again.
