Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the Glo...

Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse for which William Shakespeare wrote his plays,[1] in the London Borough of Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames. The original theatre was built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. The modern Globe Theatre is an academic approximation based on available evidence of the 1599 and 1614 buildings. It is considered quite realistic, though contemporary safety requirements mean that it accommodates only 1,400 spectators compared to the original theatre's 3,000.[2][3]

Shakespeare's Globe was founded by the actor and director Sam Wanamaker, built about 230 metres (750 ft) from the site of the original theatre and opened to the public in 1997, with a production of Henry V. The site also includes the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, an indoor theatre which opened in January 2014. This is a smaller, candle-lit space based on the indoor playhouses of Jacobean London. The Sackler Studios, an educational and rehearsal studio complex, is situated just around the corner from the main site.

Michelle Terry currently serves as Artistic Director. She is the second actor-manager in charge of the organisation, following Mark Rylance, the founding Artistic Director.

Fascinating recreation of Shakespearean theatre. Reliably good performances, although be careful you know what you're signing up for if you buy the standing tickets, it's a long time on your feet :-)

The tour is excellent. The guides definitely know what they are talking about! I would recommend the tour especially if you are going to see a play. The actors are fantastic. If you are sitting I would buy a cushion as the seats get quite uncomfortable after a while. The gift shop is great.

Amazing unusual experience of Shakespearian times open air theatre. One of my favourite places in London. Interesting historical building. Very entertaining, inexpensive and fun. Mostly standing places, but a lot of fun. As it is open air place, it is best to visit during warmer seasons.

We enjoyed the play. I recommend getting a seat if you don't want to stand for the entire play. Our seats were in the very back on the ground level which was nice because we had back support. The seats also had a slight obstruction with a pole which we knew about when we purchased the seats but it didn't bother us as it was pretty minor and we would just lean if we needed to see that part of the stage. While it's not a Broadway show and I'm not a Shakespeare expert by any means, it was fun to see what a play would have been like centuries ago.

Yes, it's a reproduction but still... if you're a Shakespeare fan, you have to stop here. Take the tour, it's worth the cost. Our tour guide was informative and fun. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours. Unfortunately, we visited in November, which means there were no productions running. Next time!

Always a good performance, and a unique experience to see Shakespeare performed in a venue such as this.
I've had yard tickets, which are great as the price is so good, and nature of standing that close to the stage is amazing. I've also had seated tickets on different levels of the theatre (but always get the cushion to sit on!).
Incredible atmosphere and well worth a visit.

Visiting Shakespeare's Globe is like travelling back in time - the atmosphere inside the theater is very unique. Our tour guide was very friendly, funny and willing to answer any question about Shakespeare and his plays. Overall, the tour was informative and interesting. Also, the shop next to the Globe Theater offers lots of books and merchandise for fans of Shakespeare. Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely fabulous performance of Henry V. If you go to London and do not go to the Globe (and the National Theatre) you are missing out on so so much. London is, in my humble opinion, the cultural capital of the world. I may be biased ;) But there is just so much to see and do, not just theatre but opera, ballet, music and even stand up comedy :)

Put this on your agenda to see a play here. It's constructed in the original style of a public theater back in the days. The production quality is excellent. The downstairs is standing room only where one can lean on the stage to gaze up at the actors. The stadium seats in the upper house are TIGHT. Be prepared to sit shoulder to shoulder to your neighbors. You can get drinks and snacks at the bar, and bring It to your seat during the play.

Excellent recreation and very knowledgeable and capable guide. Only slight disappointment was that the presentation was mostly about the threater and didn't go into Shakespeare as much as I'd hoped. Minor point though and it was still a must see experience if you like the theater.

Unbeatable venue for live performances. BEST enjoyed if you get standing tickets as many shows have actors 'suddenly' appear in and amongst the audience. Great great nights out to be had here. Totally recommended...

Amazing experience here. Saw Midsummer Nights Dream and loved it. Make sure to pre-buy a pillow and program booklet. Some food inside but not much. Seats towards the center in the middle are great and you won t get rained on.

Snooty place-small.amountof tickets, think they are supposed to be exclusive. We are from a on demand world. Shakespeare was a playright of the masses. Who reached out, and that's why I have studied him. His theatre and thier attitude are most unshakepearen

Great atmosphere ,gives a feeling of what it would have been like in the day of the Bard himself, even though the Globe has been completely rebuilt/renovated on the site of the original its definitely worth a visit.

The play was really good. The globe is original and has lots of beautiful features. I found the seat(even with the cushion) not so comfortable to watch 3h play, also leg space wasn't great, I'm average height, I am not sure if all seats has the same space for leg, it ours was restricted. As a performance it was great, just these two things could be better.
