It was a great experience to see where Shakespeare performed his works (or as close to a recreation as we can get)! The tour guide was awesome and well informed, and there's a neat museum/display area you can peruse while you wait for the tour to start, which go every half hour.

Very neat place. We've been twice. The second time we went and took the tour, they were running a dress rehearsal and let us sit and watch 15 minutes of the show and for me, that was my favorite part. Granted, history is cool, but it was really neat to see part of a performance at such a well known place
Loved the placed!! The tour was very complete and theatrical in its speech and course. I really want to come back in summer for an outdoor performace (there are also winter performances develop in a theater inside). Highly recommended!
I highly recommend you to book a tour. I had such an amazing time, the person who gave the tour was very enthusiastic making the whole thing just remarkable, it was like I was back in time and she told so many interesting stories and facts, showing and explaning the details, making everything even more vivid and beautiful. She was also very friendly and dedicated at her job; doing something which I believe, she loves, what resulted in a totally different atmosphere. By the way, is any time soon Coriolanus to be presented at the Globe?
One-of-a-kind, landmark theatre, the best way to experience Shakespeare's plays. Better to read a syllabus beforehand as the storyline might be hard to follow
Amazing reconstruction of Shakespeare's theatre. Great atmosphere to watch a play as originally performed. Went on a hot summer evening and staff provided water and sun visor.
Interesting 1 hour tour about Shakespeare and the replica building but not actual place where he used to perform but it was close in proximity they say.
Wow...what a fantastic place! Better then I expected. I went with some of my daughters to see Romeo & Juliet. Show was great, performers were fab...actual open air theatre, though the seating area is covered - take a cushion to sit on though
A must see in London. The tours are great and on the cheaper side in London. The tour guides are friendly and humorous. The building itself was magnificent and definitely a cool place to see. Also there's a museum of it which was also quite interesting and informative about the history of theatre in London and Shakespeare.
However, it is pretty hard to go and see a play. If you wish to do so, you'll need to book months in advanced as plays are extremely popular.
We were only able to see the outside of the theatre. It is located in the upper Thames and you can walk across the Millennium Bridge to get there across the river. The St Paul's Cathedral is located across the way so it's pretty close to a lot of attractions.
fairly interesting. a little pricey if you're not interested in Shakespeare but the re-build of the globe is pretty spectacular. had an awesome guide with such a wealth of knowledge.
As an avid fan of Shakespeare, and theater in general, this tour was everything that I wanted it to be. Our tour guide Matt was clever and witty, and his passion for the subject matter really set the tour apart from any tour I've ever been on. Unfortunately I did not have the time to experience a play while I was there, but after this tour, I will certainly be returning.
This Theatre is amazing, our your tour guide Dom was brilliant, we were lucky enough to see a few minutes of a dress rehearsal of Two Noble Kinsmen which was amazing, I can't wait to go to a full performance.
Very interesting to see how a medieval theatre looks like. Plus its Well located directly at the thames. Even when you dont want to pay the entrance fee, I highly recommend just to walk by
A really great venue to see the world's best plays. Book in advance for a standing ticket and experience the writings of William Shakespeare from the floor or the gallery just like they were enjoyed in the 16th and 17th centuries!
An amazing experience that you can't get anywhere else! I have been many times both standing and seated, no seat has the perfect angle so everyone's experience is individual. The use of original architecture, costumes (depending on play) and music make for an authentic spectacle that is the true way to see Shakespeare performed. I would recommend the very reasonably priced standing tickets for your first visit to really get a feel. A must do in London.
Impressive to be able to see a play as they had seen it in the time of Shakespeare ... that if, as in the time of Shakespeare the uncomfortable banks, or you bring a cushion of house or pay for you to leave it a little while. Awesome work
Great exposition about the complete history of this theater. I was surprised that the replica of the theater was built using only material from the time of the original.
Great guided tour. Great information and many thanks for your honesty..this isn't the true original Shakespeare theatre. This place is not a replica either, but close to what it may have been. This is a short tour, approximately 40 minutes long. Not free.
Shakespeare wrote the plays and a company of all male actors played each one on this spot centuries ago. This is a live experience not to be missed, in the recent reconstructed theatre on original foundations. Unique.
I'm not a regular theatre goer, but this has made me question why. The setting is amazing, especially on a summer evening. The actors were very engaging at the showing of Anthony and Cleopatra that we saw, the choreography was impressive, and even little details like the set changes were flawless. Will definitely be back.
An absolute must when in London. One gets a good impression of Shakespeare's life and work. Important: you will be assigned to assign tours. However, this does not pose a problem because the waiting time is bridged by screenings (eg printing technique or "how are the figures dressed"). Also help a few informative partitions to bridge the time. If you are feeling good, you can buy tickets for a performance right at the end of the tour. The original place where the theater stood is about 3 minutes walk from today's location. Prices should be gotten on the website. We had visited the theater as part of the London Pass.
I went to see Antony and Cleopatra here on the play's last night, a few weeks back. We had a brilliant night. The performance was fantastic and plays in the Globe feel so much more authentic and exciting, because you are in such a beautiful theatre. We had standing tickets, which are unbelievable good value for money and we had a great view right next to the actors, but I won't lie, my back was hurting after several hours of standing, so there are pros and cons!
As a teacher of English literature I had hoped to go around the Globe. Unfortunately, I had not booked ahead and so was unable to do so. Be that as it may, the Globe is of course remodelled after the original and not the one during Shakespeare s time.
Still the charm has been retained and for anyone who has any association with Shakespeare or his works, this is a must visit.
We had walked along the Thames from the Westminster Bridge and that walk in itself was wonderful.
The Positives: From the moment on I bought my ticket I knew they were sticking to diversity guidelines. the staff I saw around the building was like a real life best practise paper. Two gay men, an Asian lady, a black security guard, and a very young white rather artsy dude. Plus two retired English ladies at the membership desk.
Their toilets are GREAT too- see picture. For someone who has studied sustainable HR.. what a treat. The shop is great as well, with some artistic accessoires editions, a few great book editions, and some touristy type t shirts and caps.
It becomes clear from the history of the building and the founder that a lot of love has gone into building the place. Also, there is a great, very refined artistic energy at the backbone of the whole project that can be felt. I would have given this a raving review, had it not been for ..
The Negative: I suffer from a rare autoimmune disease. You cant see it, but it can be exhausting. I came to visit the theatre on my way to the airport. So I had my suitcase with me. There, I was told they dont have any wardrobe for tour guests (it was also not possible to deposit my suitcase at the reception or elsewhere), so I had to CARRY the damn thing up and down the stairs for the whole duration of the tour. NOT PLEASANT. I almost fainted a few times.
Please fix this problem. There should be a place to store luggage, or heavier bags. I also think that the tour is not doable for disabled people in a wheelchair. Another minus point.
More of a tourist attraction than a place to go and really enjoy a play. The sound is not great - planes fly over every 10 minutes or so - and the seats are not worth what they cost as they are really uncomfortable. Also unless you go in mid-summer prepare to be cold.
