DO NOT GO HERE. The doctors rotate so that is what it is, however the administrative staff are incompetent, rude, and inefficent. They sat at their desks gossiping about their personal lives while the waiting room was full and I waited for 30 minutes to get discharged. They act annoyed that you are there which I didn't care about it until it effected the care I got or lack thereof. Very disappointed.

Unfortunately, my husband, our baby, & I just left...

Unfortunately, my husband, our baby, & I just left this ER at 5 am after waiting for 2 hours. That might not be a big deal for some Emergency Rooms, but here are the reasons why we finally opted to leave & wait for urgent care to open, instead.
1. When we pulled into the entrance, the wait time showed 14 minutes.
2.Their website says "Wait time Time is never more valuable than when you or a loved one is facing a medical emergency. That s why it is our goal to have a physician see every patient within 30 minutes of walking into the Emergency Care Centers, either at our main campus in Sarasota or freestanding ER in North Port."
3. Triage told us, within 30 minutes of arriving, that "7 rooms are being cleaned, 1 room was just cleaned, & you should be next" An hour and a half later, another couple (who'd arrived after we did) was called back before us.
4. People were constantly coughing in the waiting rooms, with no masks on, & not even covering their mouths. I had to bring it to the attention of the staff, who had visual of them, to get the issue addressed.
5. We'd already seen at least 3 other people before us walk out after several hours wait times.
Now, on the way home, extremely sick, after the long wait, no sleep, & dealing with a tired, fussy baby, all I can do is hope that we don't catch anything else, & end up regretting our visit there, anymore than we already do. In addition, I'm already dreading having to go somewhere else, which we should've done to begin with.

We could not be happier with the care that my mother has received at Sarasota Memorial Hospital after she fell and broke her hip. Dr. Michael Moustoukas, MD - Orthopaedic Surgeon, was on call and my brothers and I were impressed with Dr. Moustoukas' professionalism and his compassion as he explained the surgery he would perform on her hip. Everyone in the emergency room was attentive and compassionate. After the surgery, Dr. Moustoukas came to the waiting room to discuss how the procedure went and to assure us that mom was doing well. The nurses post surgery were patient and always willing to accommodate Mom's needs. After three days Mom was moved to the Rehabilitation center at SMH with which I am equally impressed.

After spending almost 3 hours in the waiting area ...

After spending almost 3 hours in the waiting area and over an hour in the backroom, I was seen by a doctor for less than 10 minutes for a scratched cornea issue. 3 months later, a bill of $1400+ (hospital) plus $475 (doctor) arrived. After speaking to the billing contractor multiple times, I was told there was absolutely no discount available to me since I had a small insurance discount applied already ($104 discount towards hospital bill). Hospital never sent me an itemized bill and had explicit instruction to the bill handling company not to give any discount to patients. This is unacceptable and unreasonable. I will be writing to SMH and every place I know to complain/appeal this decision of no discount available.

My husband was admitted into this hospital mid July and spent 7 weeks (non COVID), between ICU and the Pulmonary wings. I have my deepest appreciation for all the staff who cared for him. He was treated with dignity, love and care for his entire stay, until he passed away. Thank you.

I went to the ER, suggested by my doctor back in Chicago, after the unprofessional treatment at Urgent Care in St. Armand's Circle. I waited for a short time in the waiting room at the hospital before my name was called. I had a broken bone in my foot from the ex-ray at Urgent Care.
MY DOCTOR, suggested I see a real doctor at the hospital. The nurse? took me in the room with an assistant and proceeded to tell me THAT THE DOCTOR SAID "HE WOULD NOT SEE ME." I repeated what she said and was in shock. BUt later found out that I was seen by Urgent Care and he did not want to get them in trouble since they were affilated. "Good ole boys" club. So, I was told to go home and stay off my broken foot. The doctor in the ER that WOULD NOT SEE ME was, DR. BRETT WILLIAMS. I AM SPEAKING TO MY LAWYER IN CHICAGO.

BEWARE!!!! If you get sick and have another option for health care take it. Our experience here was horrible. I would drive hours away to receive care if needed in the future. The communication between doctors, nurses, and therapists are awful and even worse with medical "professionals" to patient and patient family. It would take us 24-48 hours to get any response from them about anything. The machines would make noise if they ended, had an error, or needed to be changed. No one would come unless we called them several time. It would take them 20-40 minutes to come assist. We were told contradicting diagnosis on more than one occasion. Also the lack of care was very apparent when they were kicking us out the door and telling us there wasn't anything else they could do. I could go on and on about the bad experiences.

In everything, there were exceptions to our overall appalling experience mainly with a few nurses and aids that were caring for us. They went above and beyond our expectations. And for that we are truly grateful for them having assisted us.

I took my husband in to the ER for a broken ankle and he came out 10 days later with a cancer diagnosis. During that time, he was given anti-anxiety meds that just made more anxious, was left at least 45 minutes in a pool of his urine soaking wet (that I know ) shaking all over, next day covered with poop, nurses giving him someone else's meds, etc. etc. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hospital - oh wait a sec - there's a guy down at city hall I wouldn't mind going there.

I would Never Recommend this Hospital!! You're better off going to Blake or Manatee Hospital!!! ER Staff has zero RESPECT!! Telling a patient they have to leave with the same problems they arrived with in an ambulance, is Unethical!!!! Part of Healing is Caring!!! This ER Staff lacked RESPECT for the Patients and their Job!! Also putting this Hospital in major Liability problems!!! If I could give you zero stars, I would.. Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Get Your Act Together!!!! You should be The Best In your Community!! But you Failed!!!

I stayed here when I had emergency gallbladder surgery. I was so terrified because I just recently moved from Texas. None of my family was here for me, but every staff member was wonderful. I have a service dog and they treated him in a very respectful manner and I can t express how much I appreciate that. He was allowed to stay with me in my room overnight and it made a world of difference. I had the most excellent, attentive nurses. Communication was great, the anesthesiologist listened to my concerns and made sure I d be alright. Dr. Fiorucci was so nice! Anatoly And Kirstin were some of the best nurses I ve ever had. I can t reccomend this hospital enough and I am very grateful to have stayed here. I was discharged from doctor s hospital twice and told to go home, I could have died but SMH admitted me and had me in surgery in less than 24 hours. The OR team was so nice and comforting and made sure to take great care of me. Thank you all so much and the wonderful teams of doctors, nurses, OR staff and everyone else that made me feel very safe and taken care of.

I am in fast trac and have been here for 3 hours and all I have gotten is an eye exam, NOT BY A DOCTOR, but the exam you have to read from a few yards away. No tests, no meds, no offer of water, no anything. I am still in pain, I REPEAT no meds, blood pressure 155 over 101, nothing to relax me, no sir we will be right with u, not anything, and the nursing staff is completely not concerened with me or any of the other patients because they are too busy gossiping and sitting at the nurses station doing nothing. It is ridiculous. This is a very bad experience, and I am getting more agitated sitting here not receiving any care.

Prior employee review... great hospital great pay ...

Prior employee review... great hospital great pay rates/benefits and in general good company to work for.....Pre reg department manager for scheduling is not good at all, they do not care about the employees in that department, they only care about how fast and how many calls you can take without making any errors so that the upper higher ups look good while we did all the work and get yelled at or disciplined if we did not take as many calls and schedule the appointments they want. They macro manage. High turn over rates because employees aren t happy about getting picked at and every single mistake you make pointed out. They watch and monitor your every move like you are in prison, they are not team players at all, management does not help or assist to reach the goals they wanted us to achieve all they did was bark out do this and do that or you ll get wrote up. They are not the type of managers to step in and actually help out. Department did not used to be that way and now has gone down hill.

I was there yesterday gor emergency care. There was only 1 person to take your name and tell her what my problem was. I was so sick upon arrival I was practically doubled over in line. After being like that for just a couple of minutes but seemed a lot longer to me some kind man who worked there got a wheelchair for me. It took a little over a 3 hour wait before someone finally called my name to start helping me. While I appreciate the care I received (5 star), I think the emergency room can do a lot better when it comes to getting patients the care they need faster. The place was packed with people and I understand there is an influx of those sick with the flu. Management needs to do everything possible to improve on their service.

My last experience at SMH Urgent Care clinic for n...

My last experience at SMH Urgent Care clinic for not meet my expectations from SMH. Most of my visits to SMH have been above expectations.
The University location, albeit conveniently located, had a very expedited service. We checked in, received the services and walked out in about 1- 1.5 hours.
However, when I looked at the records, the vitals were incorrectly recorded. The nurse did not use a scale to measure weight, which is scary, knowing that some medications are given by weight.
The care received alleviated only 1 symptom but not the most important one (and the chief complaint). It is my prescription that the NP pushed really hard for a specific medication rather than understanding the entire problem. 3 Days later we are on the same spot as when we walked in.

Very good hospital. Bit dated in looks but extremely modern in everything medicine. Everyone there was excellent in service and in their job. Went in for a mysterious GI bleed I had on the job, turned out to be an ulcer that got cauterized and I got dispatched the same day. Had to share a bed though which was less than optimal considering I am a night shift worker who was there during the day and wanted to sleep while my roommate was naturally awake. But a good hospital to go to for anything

I was admitted from the North Port ER a few weeks ago and I was absolutely terrified. Everyone that I came in contact with was kind and did everything they could to make me feel better. Every nurse that came into my room was amazing. I don't remember all of their names but they all deserve special recognition....Joe, Emily, Stephanie, and others on the Oncology ward, Room 8015 area... thank you! Also a big thank you to the CNA. She was an absolute sweetheart.

It is REALLY hard to be in the hospital all alone with no visitors because of COVID. But,
all of you really made a difference and I can't thank you enough. SMH should be VERY proud of their staff and the high level of care they provide.

We were in FL for a family vacation when my 1 year old fell ill. We took him to the E.R. at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and everyone was great. He was vomiting and they made sure to make our wait very short to get checked in. The staff also was very helpful when it came to making sure we had something for him to vomit in, and stopped us from cleaning up an accident on the floor that he left and cleaned it up themselves. (being a mom I am use to cleaning up messed, so it was wonderful that they did it themselves) The staff also didn't blink an eye or say anything negative when I would nurse him in the waiting room to make him more comfortable. The doctor and nurses we saw in the E.R. were amazing. They not only made sure my son was comfortable but they made sure we were comfortable. & considering the fact that our baby was ill and we were in a completely different state, our anxieties were high! I would recommend any travelers that have any health issues while in Sarasota to visit this hospital!

I was brought in by ambulance on 3rd of September with a shattered leg, I was operated on September 4 and was in the hospital till 20th of September. The treatment I received at this hospital was gold star treatment. The nurses were compassionate and kind and the physical therapist that took care of me and the occupational therapist that took care of me had my best interest at heart. Never once did I feel that I was an inconvenience. They met all my needs, and made me feel like I was the only patient there. For a person that hasn t stayed in the hospital since the birth of her children, this stay in spite of my broken leg was a wonderful experience. I would recommend SMH
in a heartbeat!

So, I waited 9 months to write my review about my total hip replacement (March 2019). Looking back, the surgery and hospital stay was very comfortable and everyone on staff was caring and helpful. They made an unpleasant event tolerable and without any stress. For all the patients that go through there on a daily basis, the staff does a wonderful job. I would recommend this hospital to all my friends. As an added benefit my room overlooked the helicopter landing pad so I got to watch a number of landings.
Now I could complain about the food but I won't. Hey, it's a hospital and never did I think it would be great food. The food was a bit above par for hospital food.
If I require surgery in the future, SMH will be the place to go.

My Son has suffered a Birth Injury due to the negligence of the O.B and medical Staff At the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. They also falsified Documents. What they have sent me does not match what the Pediatrician has on File and when questioned about my sons injury they Stated they have no knowledge of it but luckily my pediatrician received Documentation that my son Suffered a Brachial plexus injury / Shoulder Dystocia and contusions to the face . My Son Will have to live with the careless mistakes of the O.B and staff for the rest of his life as the staff moves on as if nothing happened. They have now injured both of my sons at birth.

After the treatment we were given a price, which we also paid locally. We should pick up the invoice a few days later, because it was not ready yet.
When we picked up the bill, we were in shock: it was suddenly three times higher. No one could tell us why, no one was left to talk. Now have to hire a lawyer. Clinic is absolutely not recommended!

I had major surgery on Monday March 19th and will be discharged today the 22nd. My experience here at Sarasota Memorial was not the best, to say the least. Whn I arrived on monday, I was told to arrive at 8:30 am, for my surgery to be performed at 12:30pm . Turned out to be more like 4:00 and OR discharge at 7:00ish. I practically waited the entire day and with no consideration from any staff that I traveled from Orlando for this and had been up since 4:30 am that morning. All processes took too long and after surgery the room I was in had no shower, nurses dont assist in washing you up, so I began to smell like sweat after 4 days of being here. My sheets were never changed, bed never made and the restroom I had to share was not disinfected as much as it should have been. I think they cleaned the restroom with wipes once in that 4 day span. Completely unsanitary. Yesterday, being my last night, my niece was offered a recliner to sleep on after nurses watching her sleep on 2 chairs put together, for 3 days... The hospitality, skill and cleanliness in my opinion is very questionable. I wouldn't return to this hospital if I had to. I felt very uncomfortable especially knowing ai have a financial liability towards this type of care.

I was in SMH for surgery. The nursing care was outstanding; best I have ever had and unfortunately I have had to have a few surgeries in various hospitals (north and south) over the last few years. The nursing staff and nursing care leadership is to be commended.
The only negative to having surgery in SMH is they have primarily semi-private rooms on the general surgery floor (6) and this is a real negative and behind the times. Only two private rooms on the 6th floor. While the outstanding nursing care is somewhat of an overriding plus, the lack of private rooms would be a primary factor in not returning to SMH. They really need to update the patient accommodations in their general surgery area.

Edit- Word of advice, the some of the people who work here may start with thier guard up. They are used to being abused. I get it you are upset and not here for fun. You are here in the worst moments of your life, it's natural to lash out. The nurses and all expect that and can be guarded, take it easy on them. Be kind and they will respond.

Dr Kucera was extremely rude to my elderly parents during my mom s appointment. My parents described Dr Kucera as aloof with an even larger chip on his shoulder since he is the new cancer doctor with Sarasota Memorial. Dr. Kucera does not have empathy for his patients.
