I was in SMH for surgery. The nursing care was outstanding; best I have ever had and unfortunately I have had to have a few surgeries in various hospitals (north and south) over the last few years. The nursing staff and nursing care leadership is to be commended.
The only negative to having surgery in SMH is they have primarily semi-private rooms on the general surgery floor (6) and this is a real negative and behind the times. Only two private rooms on the 6th floor. While the outstanding nursing care is somewhat of an overriding plus, the lack of private rooms would be a primary factor in not returning to SMH. They really need to update the patient accommodations in their general surgery area.
