Portillos Rockford, ILL Review

Super yummy! Since it was our first time, we got several items to share. We had the Italian Beef sandwich - dipped and with peppers (so good), Chicago style dog (fantastic), Char-Grilled Maxwell Street Style Polish dog (very delicious), and the Chili Cheese Dog (yummy).

Portillos has the BEST Italian Beefs, the best Chicago style hot dogs and the best malts.
Their chocolate cake and eclairs cake are awesome too. Great place to eat.....love this place

No one makes better Chicago style hotdogs! Always busy so a small wait for food, but we'll worth the wait. Staff could be a little friendlier at the counter, but expediter and lobby staff are always friendly.

Not what it used to be. Went at peak lunch time and got chicken strips with fries. They lacked flavor and were dry. You might as well go get Tyson strips and cook them yourself. The fries were extremely salty and had a weird oily taste that I do not remember ever having. Ordered a chocolate shake in the drive thru but at the window it was strawberry. The Italian Beef has gone down in flavor as well over the years. However, the service is always great, staff is friendly and the place is clean. I do not like leaving a less than desirable review but I have been disappointed many times with the quality of the food and I guess this time I had enough.

Food was great fun stop for the kiddos I couldn't figure out where to order it first the place is huge in a lot going on. Soon figured out where to go and order line moves really fast so know what you want before you get to the counter. They did have great salad options and the kids got what they wanted so as a family we were all happy, but certainly not a health food restaurant.

One of the best chains in the whole wide world. Their hot dogs and roast beef sandwiches are the best in the nation. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself.

I'm so glad Portillos is finally here. We used to go there a lot when we lived in Bolingbrook. Love the food. Love the staff. Love it all.

Food is great except the fries are always over done now for some reason. Normally I would give any other Portillo s location 5+ stars but not this location! They are the worst- EVERY time we go our order is always wrong- ALWAYS. You take the time to order what you want and they repeat it sometimes twice even and it still gets in our bag wrong. I ordered a plain hot dog with cheddar on the bottom... I got a hot dog with everything on it, no cheddar. I could go on and on. This team needs to retrain or hire some new workers otherwise you re going to lose a lot of business. You ve lost ours. I did call and the manager apologized as they always do and he gave us a couple gift cards which I appreciate but it still doesn t compensate for when we get all the way home and are looking forward to eating a good meal and none of it this last time was what we ordered. Very disappointed customer!

A Rockford extension of the famous Chicago chain, you're sure to find something here you like! Whatever you have, be sure to get a piece of the chocolate cake for dessert!

If you are looking for a place that serves get Chicago Dogs and Italian Beef, this is the place to go. For something extra with your fries, I highly recommend adding cheese dip for it

Great that they are in Rockford. Went with my 10-month-old and got fruit for him; be loved it.

The food was delicious and the environment was very clean, the staff was friendly as well!

Decent, but if you've ever been to one of the chains in Chicagoland, you will know the service at this State St location needs improvement.

Service was amazing during this time (Covid-19). Two lanes of cars and pretty busy. The workers were friendly and rather quick about everything!

As for the food, it was okay. I have never been to Portillo's before and have heard good things about it. We had their fries, which were great, and then I had a Chicken Club and my husband had their Jumbo hot dog. They food was tasty but pretty par for course. Nothing overly special. If we come out again we'll try their shakes, which we've heard is good.

This place is always a favorite and a must stop everyone we are near one this is the closest one over 100 miles away so I always order extras Portillo's is the best

Being honest, I'm biased, I've been going to Portillo's since I was little. Everything on the menu is delicious. I recommend the Italian Beef, or the chopped salad.

The service here is terrible. I would have given them a five star review because the food is amazing but the lady that took our order (older, short hair, short, big glasses) was super rude. She had an attitude and when she got our order wrong, tried to say it was our fault. To top it off, this is the same woman that was rude to us the last time we were here. That was over a year ago and we thought we would give it another chance but it was just as bad. Obviously Portillos doesn't care because she's still here and as rude as ever. And it wasn't just us, there was a whole group of us waiting for our food and everyone was talking about the rude cashier. I will NOT be coming back here and i wouldn't recommend anyone else to either. Go to Beef a Roo, they're nicer and just as good.

I don't know what happened, but it's not the same. They don't appear to use Vienna hot dogs anymore. The beef was not the same....it was much softer than it used to be, with less flavor. The cheese sauce was still amazing. I'm not sure if all Portillo's have changed or if it's just this one. Oh, another thing....they got our order wrong TWICE. This isn't the Portillo's I know from Chicago; they seem to have problems with the Rockford store.

Absolutely Amazing food and staff! Lots to look at inside. Make it a must if your in the area. We were here for work and ate there 4 times.

Burgers and fries are over priced for the quality of them, definitely not good in my opinion. Ordering a salad in drive through is apparently confusing since I received no utensils. Or maybe its my fault I assumed they were in the bag, then found out after we are back on the road?!

Holy moly this is some of the best Italian beef I've had around the Chicago area. It was recommended to me by my cousin and it did not disappoint. I will definitely be back here again.

Took our granddaughter there tonight for an early birthday dinner. Her birthday is tomorrow. When one of the gentlemen working there stopped to say hello, told him it was a special dinner tonight. He said for your birthday, you get a free slice of cake. She was in heaven when he brought one to her. He also got her a paper hat too! Very impressed with the courtesy of the employees there. But ordered a large fry, it was half empty when we opened the bag. I didn't complain but watched other fry orders, even the smaller size were overflowing.. that was my hmmm moment. My granddaughter had a wonderful time and that was most important to us. She also was bopping along to the oldies music too!

Outstanding! I've been enjoying Portillos food since 1984 in the Chicago area. The Rockford location has not disappointed me. Everything from the friendly staff to the delicious food to the cleanliness of the restaurant beats EVERY OTHER restaurant in the Rockford area.

I really appreciate this Portillos. The staff is so friendly. The restaurant is clean and distanced. The food is absolutely delicious and it reminds me of growing up in the Chicago suburbs. Tonight my organization held a fundraiser at the Rockford location and everyone involved was very welcoming and helpful. I really can't say enough good things about the employees here. Thanks Portillos! See you soon!

I love the combo Italian sausage with italian beef.

We have been here in person and the hotdogs, tamales, Italian beef was amazing. My husband is from Illinois and we have been there a lot. I ordered this and had it shipped to Washington state. It was so mouth watering amazingly good. I got the hot dogs.

Under meatless options they have fish ... still having a hard time understanding the wording there

I am SHOCKED that if a typical family of four (Mom, Dad and 2 teenagers) were to order 4 large cokes it would be over $12 JUST for DRINKS!!!!!

So glad they established a Portillo's in Rockford. We often order, but the sit-in experience is even better. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, with a very Chicago old-school vibe, and food to match. They are best known for their beef sandwiches and hot dogs, which are great, but I also enjoy their chicken sandwiches and BBQ ribs. The delivery service is always on time. They also have good shakes and sides. Great place!
